The Andalite's Gift is the weakest, but still good

The Good News:
If you couldn't tell from the back cover discription alone this one was going to be different. The idea of every character getting a chance to narrate a few chapters was a great idea in my opinion and just helps to difference itself from the regular Animorphs. The second thing many fans will notice when they pick up the book it is considerably longer than the others. This proves a challenging quest for K.A. Applegate who has to create a plot that can last throughout the entire book without becoming boring. The author proves that this is not a proplem and fills the book with exciting chapters, riveting character narration, and action. The way the book plays out helps alot too. The back barely gives anything away and makes the many subplots came as a surprise and almost everything is unexpected. It doesn't even go into detail about the thing that is chasing the Animorphs and it reveals itself in a nice series of turns.
The characters are all still the same more or less and the lesser subplots from the regular Animorphs translates over to here. Such as the burden on Ax's shoulders of revenge on Visser Three, Jake and Cassie's relationships, and Tobias and Rachel's strange friendship leading to a relationship. It certainly is never boring and is certainly worth the time to read it.

The Bad News:
I did mention this is the weakest Megamorph and I stand by what I said. While it is certainly never boring it still lacks something from the regular series that didn't transend into here. My only other complaint is how the chapters seem to have a sense of reapeating the previous chapter before moving onto the new action. It begam a bit annoying, but it wasn't that bad and really the only bad strike against it.

The Final Verdic:
A good Animorph/Megamorph book and well worth the read

Young science fiction lovers will run to the bookshelves to get a copy of Animorphs: the Andalite's Gift by K.A. Applegate. The setting you will encounter in this book is mostly the forest. Every book has exiting characters but not as exiting as the characters in this book. They are Jake, Cassie, Rachel, Tobias, Ax, Marco, and Visser Three. There is major conflict in this book. It is between the Animorphs and Visser Three's Yeerks, which are slugs that can control your brain.
This book is a MUST READ book because when I read it I was addicted to it. It is extremely interesting. The book puts pictures in your head. It also makes you think it's real. If you watched the TV show and still didn't understand it the book will help. If you still don't know if you're going to read it you should read the back and take my word for it!
The author of this book seems very creative. The author is female and writes kids' books. One interesting fact is that you don't know if one book leads to another one. You should really check out this book and check out some other Animorphs books.

Megamorphs are always fun to read. Visser Three tries to capture the "Andalite Bandits"(Animorphs)by using a creature from Saturn that gets attracted to morphing power. This disastrous thing causes the seperation of the Animorphs in different places. They try to get back together, but Rachel loses her memory and Ax gets captured. The other Animorphs don't know where these two are. The final show down with the monster is exciting. Marco's jokes are all very funny in this book. It is definitely a must read!!!!

This book was full of action, emotion, adventure, and curiosity for the reader. Like when Rachel loses here memory, or when the Animorphs decide what to do about the Veelik. And is seems impossible to destroy the Veelik.This is a great book. Animorph fans, This is a MUST!

As always, I'm here with another viewpoint if someone like parents, teachers, etc. might be curious about an adult's point of view on the series. Megamorphs is the first of the series which steers away from the threads of something a little deeper which have been in all the other books to date (growing up, friendship, family, etc.) However, I still give this book the highest possible rating for other reasons. It's the longest one of the series up to this point, and Applegate kept her story together with a smooth, exciting flow which keeps the reader guessing. I was in my early twenties, and have read everything from Tolstoy and Dickens to Peanuts and Garfield. I figured it out, eventually, on the first read, but I wasn't all that far ahead of Ax when it was revealed by the plot itself. Rachel has to deal with a memory loss, Cassie with thinking she's a coward, Jake with keeping them together, and all of them with this dust beast which seems intent on destroying or capturing them. Marco's wit, as always gives a great laugh. The plot is creative, well thought out, and not too far out in left field (even for its target age group) for a sci-fi book to make it totally unbelievable. All in all, this is a very good read for a high action, mysterious, entertaining, and cohesive story for the target age. It can certainly be enjoyable for ages many years beyond 12, as well.

This book inspired me to do a live reef tank instead of just a fish tank!

Wow, this is a wonderful book. I am going to set up a reef tank very soon, and this book will be very helpful when I have to make decisions for my new tank.

I have used this book for years. I found it easy enough to read and help me through my first few years of dealing with marine tanks. And unlike a lot of my books from the beginning this one did have enough "meat" in it to still be relevant as I progressed through the hobby. Overall the content is great and it covers the gambit of marine life. On a different note, the paper and print is of a really great quality as well. This book takes a lot of use and abuse at my house and it really is still in suprisingly good condition. I only mentions this because some of the "cheaper" aquarium books I have picked up throught the years are all falling to pieces. Hope this helped!

I bought this for my mom. She enjoys all the color photographs and the helpful information about setting up a saltwater tank. She isn't ready to start one yet but this was the perfect book to help her when she does. She especially appreciated the photographs of the different types of fish which helped her identify those she would like.

Written by one of the foremost experts in the hobby, this is an essential book for beginner and intermediate marine aquarists. It covers the fundamentals of setting up, stocking and successfully maintaining a saltwater aquarium and does so in a common sense, easy to understand fashion. It is an approachable and well-written primer on the topic and is the best way to get started.



However, the book was written in 1999 and is now 8 years old. Remarkably, that means it is already out-dated given the rapidly evolving state of technology in this hobby. The author, Bob Fenner, frequently provides advice and suggestions to aquarists on an internet website and much of the information in his book is qualified or revised the advice he provides now. For example, he highly recommends that macroalgae calupera in this book but, while still recommending it some setups, cautions people today that this algae is not right for all setups due to a tendancy to take over tanks. Some of the modern trends in saltwater aquariums are also not covered in enough depth -- simply because they weren't a trend eight years ago.



Accordingly, this is a GREAT book to read as you begin your research on setting up a saltwater aquarium. Not only is it a first read, but it is a valuable resource that you will continue to turn to before, during and after setting up your aquarium because it is filled with useful advice. However, it is also advice that should be complimented by additional research with more up-to-date materials.



If Bob is reading this, I'd just like to say this: This book is incredible and I can't thank you enough for writing it. If you have the time, please consider writing a Second Edition -- the hobby would benefit from such an endeavor tremendously. Thanks!

This is a wonderful devotional. I give them to anyone going through hard times. They have always thanked me for such an inspirational gift. Each day in this book seems to address a need you may have at the present time of reading. I highly recommend.

This journal is beautiful. It's elegant but very simple and easy to use. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an uplifting and thought-provoking daily devotional. I really like the slim design and leather binding. I would give more stars, but I have only had it for a short time and have not fully experienced it yet. However, from what I have seen so far, it is a great devotional.

My niece gave me my first used edition of this wonderful devotional, and I've given copies to many others since then. For each day of the year, it contains a Bible passage, an essay on that passage by someone who loved Him, and often a poem on the same subject. It's not only water for a thirsty soul; it taught me a great deal about applying the teachings of the Bible to everyday life.

I purchased two of these items as gifts. The color was the only thing that threw me off. It was almost a golden green color. The leather cover was nice and looked really expensive. I wish the color of the binder had been black, a more neutral color.

I have been purchasing this daily devotional book for my husband every year at Christmas for 10 years. He starts over every year on Jan. 1.

I like the way they have changed the cover it is a soft suede leather instead of hard leather. I will continue to buy this book the best thing is that the verses are from the King James which is very important to my husband and myself. I absolutely recommend this daily devotional to new and seasoned Christians.

I've bought 6 different books on iguanas and they all took from this one. This book contains more information than I've been able to find anywhere else.

I loved this book, it has so much helpful information, and you could tell that the author really cared about Iguanas.

A Fantastic Book and very comprehensive. He gives you all the information that you will ever need if you want an iguana. PURCHASE THIS BOOK BEFORE YOU OWN AN IGUNA. There are full plans for making the ultimate home and I wish I would have had it before I had one built. All the others books I purchased are obsolate!

First-rate coverage of the whys & wherefores of raising iguanas, especially the Green Iguana. It would be a good idea to read the first few chapters before buying to get a feel for the Iguana "lifestyle".

As the subtitle says, this is the "ultimate owner's manual." It is comprehensive book, with detailed and specific information, punctuated by anecdotes from iguana owners. Because the iguana is a difficult pet to maintain, with specific environmental and dietary requirements, this book is essential to the iguana owner.

This is the book that made me a life long reader. It is the first book that showed me that reading could be a real adventure, and made me start looking for other good books. My Grandfather gave it to me when I was about 10 in the early sixties. I would love to have a copy to give to my grandchildren. I too hope it is reprinted. 50 years later I still remember the story vividly.

This is one of the few books that I have always remembered reading as a child. Now as a parent it is one that I would love to add to our collection for my daughter. I truly believe that those of us that were fortunate to grow up in Florida, really do have a connection with this story. Wish I could afford the higher price copies, but would love it to be published again.

My 6th grade class in Tallahasse, Florida read The Lion's Paw in 1955. We were all so mesmerized that I was selected to write to Robb White and invite him to visit our classroom, which of course, he did. We all had a wonderful time with him and I have his autograph in my scrapbook in a box in the attic. I checked the book out of the library for my children but it is not around now that I am looking for it for my grandchildren. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and pay the going price for it if my grandkids are going to read it. What a fantastic book....

I was fortunate enough to find a paperback copy of this book recently at an affordable price. Like many others here, this book was a class reading project when I was in 5th grade. The entire class looked forward to our daily reading, eagerly awaiting the next chapter. I can't wait to share it with grandchildren (when I have them...someday). What a treasure! Being from Florida only makes it that much more so! Don't give up...there are affordable copies out there.

I grew up on a boat and I was always looking for stories about other kids on boats. This was and is one of my all-time favorites. Nick and Penny are orphans and Nick is always running away. This time they run away together and wind up on a sloop called the Hardalee, owned by Ben's father, who is MIA in the Pacific during WWII. Ben's uncle is about to sell the Hardalee. Ben's not going to stand for that, and Penny and Nick get a lot farther away than they thought they would. Oh, and they're not orphans, by the way, they're eganaps. Because, you know, they weren't in an orphanage, they were in an eganahpro.

Great characters, you-are-there setting (Florida), a satisfying plot and an ending that will make you cheer. I have been hunting down used copies of this book all my life to give to the kids in my extended family. I'm chivvying my publisher to acquire the rights and bring it back into print. Possibly with an introduction by...yes, that would be me.

A beautiful written and illustrated gentle, user-friendly reference guide to mathematics from the invention of numbers, counting and reckoning up through linear differential equations, touching on all of the important signposts in between. The explanations are clear, concise and accompanied by excellent diagrams. Elementary calculus is covered especially well. The foray into Topology, fractals, and symbolic logic was an unexpected bonus with a modern touch. The very final section on probability theory with a calculus approach to probability density functions stands out as exceptional.

On the negative side, I expected more on infinite numbers, topology (which was only two pages of diagrams and basic definitions only), and vector analysis, which seems to have stopped at cross products.

But despite these minor points, it is a very useful and up-to-date reference guide for non-mathematicians and others up through the calculus. Four stars.

I can only ditto what other reviewers have said; this is an amazing book. It's a great way to gently walk back up to something you might have run away from in school. The author ties together the math; its creation and its applications in a way that will fascinate you even if you're not a math geek. Beautifully done.

Just adding another 5 star review. This book spends 600 pages on high school mathematics, and 400 on calculus/analysis. It also tosses in things not often seen before college: set theory, logic, and combinatorics. It is a history, survey, and poor man's reference.

While I always enjoyed math and science, I didn't particularly have time to "enjoy" the process of learning, thanks to our wonderful public school system, which focuses kids on getting a passing grade instead of actually learning something. This book is a wonderful cure for the apathy towards learning that is so prevalent today.

"Mathematics" is a great refresher and a good starting point for someone who wants to study math just for the sake of learning, not necessarily with some utilitarian goal in mind. The books is well put together, there is an abundance of interesting facts, illustrations and historical references that make it quite educational. This is not an exhaustive reference, but it gives a great overview both from a thematic standpoint, as well as providing a historical overview of the development of mathematics as we know it today.

The book is very easy to read, and to follow; one doesn't have to read it in its sequence, reader can pick and choose the subjects that he is most interested in.

I think it could also be used as a teaching tool for junior high/high school age kids that are interested in math (I might be thinking of some other planet) and want to go beyond the curriculum.

I bought this book back in fourth or fifth grade. And it became my favorite ever since.

This book is a reference book. But it is VERY tempting and fun to just sit on your couch and browse though it.

I learned too much from this book. It tells so many things. It starts off with simple ARITHMETIC. And gets through algebra, geometry, trigonometry, differential and integral calculus, fractal geometry, linear algebra... And many more things.

I used to take this book everywhere with me, despite its dictionary size. It truly is a forest worth exploring.

It even includes some historical and biographical information.

You get a whole different, more amateur feel when you read this. This is not written in the professional LaTeX or TeX format or font. I am no idea how it was written. Though, it is not traditional math book typesetting. But, with all honesty, for this book, I like that a lot.

I recommend this book to every type of person. Mathematicians, people with interest in math, people who need review, people who need some aid, and even people who don't like math or are looking for some inspiration.

Worth all fifty dollars. (Well, that is what I paid back in the day).

If anyone ever wondered what the various phrases in Psalm 23 really meant, this book explains them, one by one, from the perspective of a man who actually worked as a shepherd. I was in a Bible Study, and was given this little book which was a tremendous blessing and eye opener for this Psalm which I have quoted many many times during lengthy medical procedures and tests. I really treasure the explanations. Thanks Mr. Keller, for writing this book. You made this Psalm come literally alive in my heart and mind.

The shepherd's perspective on the 23rd Psalm expands the meaning far beyond the usual interpretations. The Psalm comes alive with such depth that you will never again read or hear these familiar words in the same way. Phillip Keller's narrative is entertaining, informative and inspiring.

Philip Keller was the son of missionaries in E. Africa. Later, a sheep owner and rancher. And finally a lay pastor. His life experiences provide the expertise needed to unearth the rare gems buried within Psalm 23. I highly recommend this book for women's groups looking to "lie down in green pastures" under the watchful eye of The Great Shepherd.

This story will make you marvel at the way God used Bruce Olson in the jungles of the Amazon. I marveled at his story about his conversion and about the time he told his Lutheran pastor about it. His pastor was stunned, to say the least. His pastor had prayed over Bruce at his confirmation and did not see the need for "Conversion".

I had to marvel as Bruce tells how he learned the language of the Motilone people. He used the old fake trick of pulling his thumb off. He did not initially think much of it, but he noticed that they loved to watch him do this. They would laugh each time he did it. Bruce did this trick so many times that he started figuring out what some of their words were. As they watched, they would say "He is going to pull his thumb off", "Now he is going to put it back on". Over and over again, Bruce slowly picked up some of their language and verb tenses.

The other interesting story is about how he told the gospel to them so that they could understand. The native Indians he lived with had formed their houses into one large circle, with a big opening in the middle. Looking down from above, it resembled the shape of an ant hill. According to Indian legend, they learned how to do this from the ants. It seems one day one of the ants became a man and told them to build their homes in this fashion - like the ants do. When you look at an ant hill that is what you see - a hole with dirt all around it. Bruce used this illustration to tell how another Person wanted to tell us about God. And in order to do this, He became a man, told them the story of salvation, died for their sins, etc. What is so neat about the story is that Bruce realized that in order to relate the Gospel to them, he had to tell it in a way they could understand. This was the perfect illustration, the ant that became a man, so he could tell them about how to build their homes.

This story has many events that are just too incredible. I still cannot imagine the Yuko drink that they made and then drank it!!! This story is incredible from beginning to end.

It is truly one of the best missionary stories I have ever read. I have read this book twice now and used it in Sunday School lessons.

This is an exceptionally true story of how God used a young 19 year old man to transform a tribe of South American natives to Christians. Bruce Olson later became an interpretor to the United Nations representing these natives when Exxon oil was discovered in their land.

An amazing story that illustrates to a believer how wonderful God is and how often we miss seeing Him work because we don't step out in faith. Its a great book because its about a Great God.

Truly a wonderful book. Full of courage, selflessness, love and sacrifice. I've never read a better book outside the Bible. Unforgettable.

I have always been interested in WWII history and this book is excellent as it deals with the consequences of war. Wolfgang was blessed with an incredible memory and this book tells the story of the time from 1945 to 1950 in Germany and how things were. I will not recap the story since others have done it so well, but this is in the top 10 of the hundreds of books I have read.

This is a great book. I gave the book to a few German friends who lived in Germany during the war. They could identify with the author's experiences.

The author became a U.S citizen and fought in Vietnam. I would have liked to read about the author's experience in this country, and his experience, as a pilot in our Air Force.

A well written book and interesting too.

Wonderful and descriptive first hand account of living through WWII in Germany and the life there afterwards.

The author, who was 10 years old and living in eastern Germany when WWII came to an end, has an amazing memory for telling details and an irresistibly engaging personality. His memoir of that dreadful time is framed as a tribute to his mother, who certainly deserves it, and an unforgettable lesson in history as it is really lived. Once you start reading this book, you will be unable to put it down and you will never forget it.

This harrowing memoir should be required reading for all children. Perhaps, as adults, they will think hard and deeply before embarking on war. The description of life at the end of WWII and postwar Germany are harrowing. The reader cannot help but wonder how he or she would or could cope in the same situation.

I found the comparison among the American, British and Russian zones in postwar Germany to be fascinating. I hope that the friendliness and genorosity which have historically characterized Americans have not been lost in our recent imperialist adventurism and immoral acts.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Had never heard of the author until I saw him on the Glenn Beck TV program. I liked the testimony he had, so I decided to read this book, along with "The Gift" and "The Christmas Box". They were all well written and enjoyable to read.

I came across this book after doing a search on choriadal melanoma. My dad was diagnosed 5 days before Christmas. I am happy to say he was treated with Radioactive Plaque Therapy in NYC just this past week and the doctor tells us the tumor is dead - gone!! I believe I will have to wait a while until my emotions settle a bit to read it though!

Reading Finding Noel is truly a gift. The stories give one a sense of pleasure as well as serenity. This is the tenth book of Richard Paul Evan's literature that I have read. I look forward to reading The Gift next. My husband used to give me Evan's new book each year for Christmas. After his death, I sort of forgot about getting one as a gift. Recently, I went and purchased Finding Noel and The Gift to add to my collection. The covers are exquisite and the paper with the ragged edge makes it a reminder of past days. These books would make a wonderful gift for a birthday, Hannukkah or for Christmas or even for no reason at all. I highly recommend them.

I read this book before I decided to buy it, but I fell in love with the story so much I had to send a copy to my mother-in-law for Christmas. It was delivered in plenty of time for the holidays and she loved it!
