Jules Verne Books

Prior to listening to this audio book, I thought it to be impossible to add anything to the brilliance and imagination of a Jules Verne story. I was mistaken. Jim Dale once again dazzles us with his character work as he joyfully guides us through this classic piece of literature. Anyone familiar with Dale's work on the Harry Potter series knows the kind of dimension he can add to a story, but here he breathes new life into an already wonderful 130 year old novel. A real delight to listen to.

This tiny little volume dropped into my hands and I adore it. These pocket editions are neat because you can keep it in your pocket and read it whenever the opportunity strikes.
This novel by Jules Verne holds up remarkably well. We all think we know the story but in fact we don't. Seeing the world as it appears to an upright British gentleman and his French servant is quite entertaining. Highly recommended.

I loved this book, i have not read it in years, it really was a treat,a real adventure.

I bought this for my son when he was in grade school to encourage him to read. This is a specially adapted version for young readers by Marian Leighton.Exciting reading with good illustrations:I'll bet you 20,000 pounds that I can travel around the world in 80 days!" said Phileas Fogg. The time is 1872, when trains and steamships are the fastest means of travel. Across Egypt and India, through Hong Kong, Japan and America he goes.........Imagine your child reading exciting history, and not being able to put the book down.

At the moment when the existence of the radio was only a rumor travelers in southern Saharan Africa are guests in a technologically advanced and surprisingly modern city being built in the desert unknown to the Western European world. Verne forsees the use of helicopters and explosive bullets in warfare against local native peoples in the surrounding countryside as well as tunnel boring machines similar to that used to construct the channel tunnel and other major recent tunnels. I read Into the Niger Bend in about 1960 in conjunction with City in the Sahara, the companion volume. My review above may have mixed elements of these 2 connected stories. At the time the 2 books were in the collection of the North Hollywood branch of the Los Angeles Public Library. I highly recommend them.

An incredible story of flight before the modern airplane, with an engineer, Robur, and the Weldon Institute. A story of lighter-than-air versus heavier-than-air travel, and it takes you all around the world, even over Antarctica.

Dick Sand or a Captain at Fifteen by Jules Verne

Great children's literature! This is one of the best adventure novels ever written.

This is a clever and good book. The townspeople were simple, conservative, quiet, and slow-paced. But because of Dr. Ox's experiment, they are transformed into the opposite. It has a happy ending in which they are transformed back into their original selves.

This is obviously not one of Jules Verne's best known stories, but it is fun. A "mad scientist" visits a sleepy town and, under the appearances of setting up gas lighting for the town, instead performs an experiment on the townspeople, turning them into frenetic lunatics. OK, so what is proposed wouldn't work in reality; neither would firing a cannon to the moon. However, it is a fun story.

Verne has done it again! Another action packed interesting book about exploring a comet in outer space. I couldnt put it down!
