New love, old problems Part 1Review Date: 2006-04-14
Momo has had a change of heart. Despite the fact that she had lingering feelings for Toji she has moved on and is now in a relationship with Kiley, the man who helped her through all of her prior romantic grief. Things are not as wonderful as they should be though. Momo's former friend (and enemy) Sae is on the warpath, trying to insinuate herself into Momo's life again by supplanting nasty rumors about her and Kiley, while rubbing into Momo's face that she and Toji are dating.
To make matters stranger there is a bizarre interlude with Nurse Misao that has left Momo skeptical about Kiley's feelings. When he says Misao and his older brother used to be an item is he really telling the whole truth? And what's worse, why does he have an old photo of a woman that may be Misao and him? And who is the strange girl that Kiley is meeting up with in the bookstore in secret?
I'm so happy, "Peach Girl" is back in all of it's angst y goodness. And this series proves to be better than ever. I am so utterly excited that not only are Momo and Kiley dating (finally) but that we now get to have an insight on who Kiley really is...and he seems to be much deeper vessel than we formerly gave him credit for. This playful individual has a dark side and a past and now that Momo is getting to know him better we finally get to venture into that side of him. Joy. On the other hand Toji has diminished into the shadows, but I am certain he will resurface, most likely whenever Sae plans something nasty on Momo.
Fans of Peach Girl rejoice... the second series is as good as the first, thus far.
It's finally happened!Review Date: 2003-05-03
This volume is written in the original right-to-left format. The benefit of this is that none of the artwork has been flipped, or altered. The downside is that, if this is your first encounter with this style, you will most likely get confused and dizzy trying to figure out the order by which to read the panels (but don't worry, you get used to it after a few pages or so, and there is instructions in the book).

Pediatric CardiologyReview Date: 2008-03-18
I'm a better pediatrician because of this book.Review Date: 2006-09-25
Very useful reference work, even for non-peds and non-cardsReview Date: 2002-11-20
medical practitioner can diagnose alsmost any known
cardiac anomaly in a child.
Having a scientific but no medical background myself,
I found it very readable. Some knowledge of cardiac
anatomy and electrocardiography are a prerequisite.
What is especially good is Prof. Parks comprehensive
approach to the diagnosis: all posible pathologies are
listed and when a particular observation
is possible in normal patients, he doesn't forget to point
this out too.
I have only read the 2nd edition of the book (1988), so
I cannot vouch whether the latest (4th) is up to date
on recent advances in the field, be it in pacemaking
capabilities or teratogenic discoveries.

The bible of pediatric surgery.Review Date: 2004-05-04
That said, this book is perhaps a bit too much for the general surgery resident or medical student in the middle of a busy pediatric surgery rotation. He or she might do better with Principles of Pediatric Surgery, a single-volume textbook covering the essentials of the subject, also published by Mosby. This other book would probably also best serve other nonsurgical pediatric physicians for pediatric surgery reference purposes.

Pills for PetsReview Date: 2004-03-18
Dr. Deb Eldredge is not only an award-winning writer and columnist on veterinary issues, but she is my friend and a fellow Belgian Tervuren owner/trainer/competitor. Deb works in an animal hospital outside Syracuse, NY and is a volunteer consultant for Canine Working Companions.
Her book, Pills for Pets, is truly an A to Z guide to drugs and medications for your animal companion, from dogs to horses, from iguanas to cats! This book was awarded the Muse Medallion for Best Health and Care Book for 2003.
Pills for Pets is a comprehensive, easy to use listing of prescription and over the counter drugs - including cautions, possible side effects, and drug/food interactions. Deb Eldredge makes it very clear that the information in her book is to allow pet owners to supplement their knowledge about veterinary care, not replace it.
Dr. Eldredge gives advice and cautions about homeopathic remedies, herbal treatments, vitamin and nutritional supplements; all of which are becoming very popular with pet owners. Her book also helps pet owners in choosing the right veterinarian and pet insurance. She also touches on emergency first aid and how to provide long-term nursing care for animals, as many of our pets are living longer.
Of interest to anyone who wanted to save money by buying medications and fad diets on the web, a must read is chapter 7 which makes you aware of the dangers of Internet purchases. Emphasis in Dr. Eldredge's book is that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Pills for Pets is an excellent resource and a "must have" for any pet owner!
Winner of Best Pet Health Book 2003!!!!Review Date: 2003-12-03
"An extremely useful reference book that covers the ground. This is a book that pet owners want on their shelf when health questions arise."
Whether you own an iguana, dog, cat or horse this book arms you with the information you need to ensure that your pet is getting the best medical care possible. The book includes prescription and over-the-counter meds, homeopathic remedies, herbal treatments, and a guide to emergency care and first aid.

Excellent intermediate resourceReview Date: 2006-09-13
While the book's content is excellent, the presentation could be improved somewhat. More examples and illustrations would help on this count, as would a better arrangement of headings and sub-headings. Since it appears that the author's intended audience are those who already have some primary knowledge of the field, this shortcoming is not significant. This is a book designed to take such readers to the next level, which it does quite well.

I prefer Dennis and Schnabel's _Numerical Methods for Unconstrained Optimization and Nonlinear Equations_ for Newton-derived methods in unconstrained optimization, but Fletcher's book has the added material on constrained optimization (Part 2) that makes it more complete if one wants a single reference that covers the gamut of optimization.

I went back to this book many times when I ran into difficult questions reviewing for Step 1 and realized that I didn't really understand the basic concepts.
Not the book to use the night before your pharm exam: for that, I'd use the small Katzung and Trevor.

One more thing: The book is brilliantly complemented by its companion book, "Principles of Pharmacology Workbook", by S. Farrell, a great account of more than 100 clinical cases regarding each chapter of the main book, with no less than five questions -and their corresponding answers- for every one of the cases. The ideal complement to make this couple of books the best pharmacology books in the scene today. I work very actively with both of them in teaching my own pharmacology courses.
