It is possible that Amazon will not approve this review, but on the off chance they do, I am writing it. I just wanted to let anybody who is interested know that one may obtain this article by visiting the Cato Institute's website and searching for Penn Jillette. It's a very entertaining (even insightful in a way) piece, as are the rest of the handful of Penn's articles available at that site. (This one is my personal favorite.)

A great source of Facts and History!
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 1999-04-23
There are not many writings present on this topic. The author presents an unbiased and well written historical events of a minority group that has been able to survive under unstable region and government. In fact, the material in this text resembles the writings of another book which is writen by an Armenian in Isfahan- the Peria region of the Isfahan State. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in this topic and contributions of Armenians to a State Nation which does not recognize Armenians as a major contributor. Armenians in Iran have made a positive inpact on the economy, arts, agriculture, and technology in a historical sense. This is a must read for any Armenian, without the attempt to sound biased and imposing.

Being Tuareg is an Art
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-05
This book gives an excellent overview of the Tuareg Culture. It addresses the customs, history, Berber language and it's poetry, as well as the material culture of the Tuareg. The examples of the leather work and jewelry are superb. It was my pleasure to attend the sale of Tuareg jewelry at Fort Mason, CA, which is mentioned on page 67 of the book. This book is the catalogue for an exhibit which will visit the Cantor Center for the Visual Arts, at Stanford University, in 2007. If you like things Tuareg, you will love this book.

This comprehensive article will help you understand every crevice and crack. However, I thought the lack of detail about the gentalia made the entire thing a little incomplete. Overall though, it was a great article on the souless and their bodies.

I have read most of Jonathan Kozol's books starting in 1991 with Savage Inequalities. Mr. Kozol writes about reality. He doesn't attempt to change it, by giving money. He doesn't try to change it by offering up solutions to the problems of impoverished children. He mere points out what is. I teach in an inner city school and know, that it doesn't matter how good I am, and the fact that I will reach and inspire many children, will not make a whole lot of difference in the rest of their lives. I keep trying for those children I do reach and maybe make a difference for.

Number the Stars

Review Date: 2006-03-07
"Awesome" is the only word I know to describe this book. The book I read is called Number the Stars. It is by Lois Lowry. In this book the main character, Annemarie is faced with several challenges. This story takes place in Denmark during times of war. The main point in this book is Annemaire willing to help her best friend. The events in this book are linked by the end of each chapter you are left with questions that make you want to keep reading. I enjoyed this book, now normally I hate reading, but when I started reading I couldn't put it down. I disliked this book because it left me to make up my own ending. I recommend this book to people who enjoy reading about suspence or friends.

Seminal Document of the Green Party
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-12
Written shortly before Peter Camejo agreed to run as Ralph Nader's running mate in the 2004 U.S. presidential election, the Avocado Declaration is a vivid description of how the young Green Party should "adopt a firm and uncompromising identity if it was to promote its values and combat the opposition of the more powerful Democratic and Republican parties in the United States." 1

In it, Peter Camejo advised the Green Party (which was divided and uncertain about election year strategy) to win hearts and minds by standing firm to its principles and by building a reputation of being reliable and unshakable.

In coming to that conclusion, Camejo deconstructs the mythologies that the Democratic and Republican Two Party System rely on to enforce an unhealthy allegiance from the people. He further points out how historically almost all positive and healthy benefits that have accrued to the people are due to the stubbornness of independent movements and alternative political parties.

Even though the context of this article is focused on the immediacy of the Green Party's 2004 political situation, it is still mandatory reading for Americans concerned with understanding the true nature of how the two party system affects their lives. It is also fundamental to those who wish to best fulfill their civic obligations by being informed and knowledgeable voters and activists. It is crucial too for anyone trying to understand the history and ideas of the Green Party, and it sheds much light on the nature of politics and elections in the United States.

Because the ideas in this document are so clear, thoughtful, and enlightening, they should have a long life in the world of political science, and be beloved by those who desire true democracy and wish to uphold a productive humanistic tradition.

By the way, the title, Avocado Declaration, refers to the "ideal of party members being like the avocado: "Green on the inside; green on the outside." Avocados are very popular and highly valued in California, where Peter Camejo is running as the Green Party candidate for Governor this year, 2006.
