Cathy Heiliger has put into print a revelation of God that shares the heart of the Master and those that encountered Him. I am so pleased that she has done such a great job in writing this pictograph of Jesus and His deciples and the ones that He touches and heals.
What a blessing!

In the more than seven decades of my life, I keep re-learning what poor communicators and relaters men are compared to women. I found that this book was an incredible facilitator in this (for me) most difficult area of life. When communicating with and understanding our fellow human beings is so difficult, how much more so with God.
This book is a real blessing in perceiving the true heart of God and how deeply He cares for His creation. You are a virtual bystander in His relating to the most humble of His people in settings that ring with the authenticity of the age. Although many have been touched with "the issue" in the opening chapter, I felt more involved and uplifted with each ensuing story, culminating with "The Anointing". We are eye-witnesses to what a great God we have.

This book moved me in ways that others haven't, because I was impressed with the people in scripture as fellow human beings. It was my automatic reaction to empathize as it filled in many gaps in my understanding of the featured people. Smooth reading, a natural imagery, historically founded, inspiring and deep, it answered my spiritual quest for "more" . . . Since the ladies I work with have varying beliefs, yet are each in their own way searching for "more" from life and/or God, I think this book will gently enable the experience (and be a perfect Christmas gift). I believe we are desperate for the 'out-of-this-world' God, whom we acknowledge is caring and personal, to enter into our own individual worlds and make them entirely meaningful. This book is a resource God used in my life to do that for me.

Cathy Heiliger is true to her promise and takes us straight to the heart of things. Here are stories simple and profound. As she retells those not-so-incidental encounters people had with Jesus in the gospels, she "fills in the blanks" by allowing us to become those people and feel, experience those aspects of their lives that brought them face to face with the Master.
For example in the story "A Woman and Her Issue" we experience how her "issue" is a beautiful metaphor for the heart "issues" of our lives. Particularly impressive is Jesus' insistence that the woman realize He not only healed her physically, but He continues healing (progressive tense) her emotionally, in her soul. The short studies that follow each story take us deeper and provide us an opportunity to encounter the Great Physician in our own, personal way.
Encounters of the Heart takes us beyond "clever writing," beyond mastery of technique and convention, and allows us the opportunity to enter into the mysterious beauty and healing of God, Himself.

As a professional comprehensive healing practitioner I have read hundreds upon hundreds of resources, always seeking out key elements and information written in layman's terms to share with clients, resources that help clients empower themselves. Let me tell you, they are hard to come by!
I bought Colleen Deatsman's book and read it cover to cover, then went through it again and applied every single exercise, meditation, etc., doing so from a client's point of view. Was this something I could easily and without reservation recommend to clients? Was this a resource the average person could read, understand, and apply with ease? Astoundingly, throughout the entire book, through each and every method shared by Colleen, the answer is an astounding "YES!" to every question. This is _the_ book I had been looking for. (My only complaint, and it's a small one, is the section on Energy Cord Cutting. Because of my work and research with energy cords, I have discovered that pulling and other non-cutting methods tend to be safer and more effective. - Sorry, Colleen! =p)
Because of the amazing benefits of applying Colleen's knowledge I have seen incredible results, with myself, and with clients. Numerous clients who have purchased this title have written or called afterward to tell me of their amazing results, especially when combined with treatment from an esoteric energy practitioner.
This has become the **number one book** (and CD) I recommend to clients, colleagues, family, and friends. "Energy for Life" is worth 20,000 times its weight in gold. It is a must-have resource for anyone in the healing arts, and for those simply looking for result-oriented methods they can easily apply themselves, in the comfort of their own homes.

An amazing explination of energy and how to stay connected and energized in our lives. One of the best written books on the subject I have ever seen. An absolute must for any healer, lightworker, shaman, or just anyone who wants to learn valuable techniques for taking control of your life and claiming all the power that is yours.

This is a book full of exercises dealing with energy, visualizations and so on. If that's what you were looking for, great; this is the book for you. But I was looking instead for a book not so "practical", but rather focusing on a better general management of your energy, so as to keep always in control of your energy level and prevent getting depleted when you are tired, or get suddenly angry, for instance.
I guess I will have to keep looking for that other book. Anyway, this book could be of help to you if what you are looking for is a daily exercise program to keep "fitness", energetically speaking.

"Energy for Life" is a very valuable resource for those of you looking for ways to activate your energy. So many of us are stressed out from having to figure out how to survive in today's world.
Colleen Deatsman teaches us how to thrive and not just survive. She brilliantly teaches what energy is, how to activate your own life-force energy, release blockages, stop energy leakages, and connect with the source of life.
I really appreciate how Collen takes some complex metaphysical concepts and can speak about them in a way that is easy to follow showing us how to work with energy on a day to day level in our lives.
I also appreciate her own journey as "a wounded healer". For she overcame chronic illness using the techniques she shares in her book. She knows the path that we must all walk on our healing journey.
I highly recommend this book to learn how to rejuvenate and heal. She also included a CD of guided meditations which are simple and relaxing to work with.
All in all "Energy for Life" is a gift for all of us living in today's world. It's well written, easy to follow, engaging and gives us practical ways to change our health as well as our lives.
Big Thumbs Up

I am interested in energy work from a metaphysical standpoint but that should not stop anyone else who is interested in raising their energy levels and getting connected with their center core. One just needs an open mind not a religious affiliation or context to benefit from the information contained within.
The CD was amazing although I wish there were other mediations from the book that could have been added to the CD which would have made this package out of this world.
As with anything else, meditations differ from person to person, I tend to prefer the more concise practices rather than the drag me out 40 minute editions which one does not always have time for. Thank goodness of the 5 meditations only one was longer than 20 minutes and it turned out to be my least favorite anyway.
Overall this book and CD are worth the price.

This book is a great way in understanding how we as individuals can finally enjoy God, and to invite others to enjoy Him with us. The book is very practical and gives great understandings on what it means to enjoy God. Take it and test it - see what qualities you as a person have to enjoy our Dad. Highly recommended.

S.J. Hill has written an extremely relevant book in Enjoying God. He writes as if he is sitting in your living room talking to you. Though easy to read and understand, Hill incitefully discusses the often "hard-to-grasp" concept of a loving, romantic God who pursues us - His bride. This book is highly recommended to all.

I innitially picked up "Enjoying God" being somewhat skeptical, not being sure how scripturally sound it would be. It started off somewhat slow and mildly dull and slowly drew me in. As the pages began to turn faster and faster my heart began to smile. By the end I felt refreshed with a renewed passion for my Lord. The title of this book is very appropriate "Enjoying God". This book has taken me back to my first Love in a way I was not expecting. I will be recommending this one for years to come.

This book has helped bring me closer to a personal understanding of God's love for me than any book except the Bible. The very keen spiritual diagnostics really help a person who has been hurt or who has just not broken through to the joy of knowing that God really, really loves ME! I am buying it for friends and family.

I first discovered the Enneagram from Richard Rohr's earlier work, both the first edition of this book and some tapes. It has been life changing for me and I highly recommend it.
This book takes a very clear stand as spiritual approach, so if psychology alone is your goal, you may not like this.
Even with its religous tone, I find this a great life tool. Not only has it been so helpful to me in self healing and discovery, it has helped me so much in the workplace and social arenas.
Richard Rohr is a singular person and I recommend almost all of his works!

As a fan of Richard Rohr, i must confess I found this book quite disappointing. Having engaged in coursework on the enneagram I entered this book with some familiarity with the lens it provided.
I was very disappointed in Rohr's generalizations and use of stereotypical terms such as "Jewish mother" which I find inflammatory. I also found his assumptions as with certain types having had abusive childhoods (when this is not necessarily true). It appears that either Rohr or the other author has some personal issues with the two and seven types. As the tone of these chapters is much more negative than the rest of the book. Incidentally, in the chapter entitled "The enneagram and Jesus" there is disproportionately less space devoted to how Jesus was an enneagram 2 than any other type.
As the book appears to be translated from German and is a republication of a 1989 german edition, I give Rohr the benefit of the doubt and give him 3 stars when I really believe it worthy of only 2 stars. There is some worthwhile information presented but the manner it is presented is questionable at best.
Regardless of the author or teacher, the enneagram is a none too gentle wake up call to take a long hard look at our compulsions. Studying it is always painful if one truly invests in its philosophy. However I urge extreme caution in reading this book as I find it to have more potential for traumitization.
For a more gentle yet credible introduction to the enneagram I reccomend anything by Riso and Hudson especially THE WISDOM OF THE ENNEAGRAM. Similarly anything by Helen Palmer is excellent. For brief bare bones essentials on the enneagram, THE ESSENTIAL ENNEAGRAM by Daniels and Price will suffice. For an excellent and gentle read on the Enneagram and its relation to Kabbalah look into the two books by Rabbi Addison.
For an excellent book by Rohr read HOPE AGAINST DARKNESS: THE TRANSFORMING VISION OF SAINT FRANCIS IN AN AGE OF ANXIETY.

This updated version of DISCOVERING THE ENEAGRAM is truly a gem. It does a good job of explaining Enneagram theory and an excellent scholarly job of looking at the history of the Enneagram. In addition, its descriptions of the 9 Enneagram types are well done and insightful. Each of these sections also contains many interesting historical references to important figures and event in Christian history.
I have read a lot of Enneagram books including some that were written from a Christian perspective. Within the Christian subset of books, I feel this one is "hands down" the very best. It is also in general agreement with Riso and Hudson, Helen Palmer and Sandra Maitri on the characteristics of the types. These are three of the biggest names in Enneagram study and each has a useful perspective to offer.
Rohr sees the Enneagram as both a useful psychological and spiritual tool for self growth. Psychologists and spiritual directors will really appreciate his rigor and depth. Another Christian author who uses the Enneagram for spiritual direction is James Empereur. His book THE ENNEAGRAM AND SPIRITUAL DIRECTION is also quite good.
If you are a psychologist you may also want a copy of PERSONALITY TYPES by Riso and Hudson. This book covers the 9 developmental levels of each type in detail and the associated psychological pathologies. For a general audience, THE WISDOM OF THE ENNEAGRAM by the same authors may be better because it has a more broad focus on theory and keeps the detail on each developmental level to a minimum.
Another point worth mentioning is that this updating version of Rohr's DISCOVERING THE ENNEAGRAM (retitled) covers new discoveries about the history of the Enneagram. This includes its use and possible origins in Early Christianity. This section is well-researched and you can find a lot of good references here on the history of the Enneagram.

This book hit my personality type totally! With jaw-dropping accuracy, it brought my natural inclinations to light as a typical personality type. All of a sudden, I was not alone and there was reason for my tendencies. This book was great because it bridges the gap between your natural inclinations and where you should go as a Christian. After I read this book, I could feel much closer to my god.
From the very beginning there was something going on in myself I could not describe with words.
Something very positive. After 6 month now I look back and can say my life took a better direction. More calmness,

A Confirmation of The Dialog

When I speak of the word "Dialog," I am speaking of my own on-going personal travelling search for communication with Diety. This book is written in such a way that it can either be an introduction to God for those who are not familiar with the critical fundamental relationship which resides within the heart, because all their efforts have been invested in an external religion...but also for those of us who are familiar with The Dialog and wish confirmation, continued connectivity and reaffirmation of our internal established relationship with God independent of an external world framework. The "Message" is always the same, no matter the avenue, when it is original and proceeds, from The Source. That message is, We Are ONE. Indeed, any kind of separation from God is of our own making. This book uses familiar Christian concepts such as "The Fall" to describe the external world mental separation we have created as a barrier to our Key Fundamental Relationship. So long as we look for God "Out There" instead of "In Here," we will continue to reinforce the barriers which have prempted our rightful and inherent relationship with God. The fundamental principle that God resides WITHIN US and that is where we must look to renew our relationship...not within the confines of external doctrines or frameworks...is central to the thesis in this book and is a continued fundamental principle of every book I have read which I know proceeds out of the Spirit. This book says...do not abandon your current religious framework if it serves you...but build within yourself, your relationship with Me, I am always HERE WITHIN YOU...and if that religious framework no longer serves you...I am always HERE WITHIN YOU STILL. It also says, if you have a religious framework as your context for relationship with Me, Our relationship is NOT complete, if you are only seeking Me OUT THERE. Establish a DIRECT relationship and DIRECT communication within YOU to ME...(Thus the analogy of the "phone."). He has said, this journey is "delicious" in more than one book! It is "time" to give up being a mindless follower to the Messengers and instead...establish a direct relationship with Me. This is indeed, a tough thing to do, when all your life you have been told by established religion, you cannot get to God unless...you do this and this and this and do not do that and that and that...and especially if you do anything without US or our permission or our consent. Yes, it takes a brave soul to realize, you do not need anyone's permission to have a direct relationship with God and no one has any real authority to limit or deny your ability to do so. If you have your eyes OPEN and your mind OPEN when you read this book, you will come out SEEING and THINKING with your heart. And that my friends, is going to get you in a lot of trouble with the world...and its going to establish a relationship which will make the world's permissions...irrelevant. Are you bold enough to take this book and really "read" it? Even if the message of this book remains unheard in you...there will come another chance, another time and place, when you ARE ready for it. I hope, the message in this book, is for you now. For me, it is a re-confirmation of what I have come to understand thru many other such texts. The message is always ONE.
Very close within and beyond.

Reading the book and close it, reading it again and close it again. The things I experience are eventualy not in this book but it "goes and exists" inside each one of us. Everybody knows that any spoken language is many times a poor substitute for the living energy that exists within the very core of our heart and soul. Real communication is not easy at all. So what I want to say is that beyond the words written down in this book, there is an everyday-feeling which will bring us all to understandable Common Grounds. It is a TRUE book.
A book you want to share after you've read it 10 times!

This is a very challenging book. As a Christian I had what I believed to be a safe and good understanding of what/who God is. It challenged my own concepts and has revealled not a God but a parent. It made me realise how intimate this new found parent is in a simple, honest, straight forward way but with a depth I had never experienced before. It helped me understand what our relationship should be like and gave me a renewed desire to get there. There are very few books that have had this kind of impact in my life. It is written in easy to understand everyday language. Would I recommend it? Most certainly yes.

Mother Teresa reminds us of the power that is compacted in prayer. Prayer is perhaps the most powerful of all spiritual treatments and in this book, Mother Teresa reminds us that all our activity is governed by and made better by the power that flows through prayer.
Wonderful book filled with meaningful and easy to incorporate prayers that really do make a difference in your day and life. Just beautiful.

Everything Starts from Prayer has been added to the books I use regularly. This book refreshes my spirit. If you have any value for prayer this book will pump it up (Maybe I should send a copy to Governor Schwarzenegger)! With Mother Teresa's ecumenical reach, no walls excluding anyone from prayer, I have gifted this book many times to people I know benefit. "Everything Starts from Prayer" is inspirational and one of my absolute favorites.

I've long known that a book's length doesn't guarantee
that it will be worth reading . . . such is the case
with EVERYTHING STARTS FROM PRAYER: MOTHER
TERESA'S MEDITATIONS ON SPIRITUAL LIFE FOR PEOPLE
OF ALL FAITHS by Anthony Stern.
It is short, but oh so powerful . . . and as the subtitle implies, it
is applicable for people of any faith.
As I was reading it, I kept having to pause to think about
Mother Teresa was saying . . . it was almost as if she were
talking to me directly!
For example, when I'm in a lazy mood, these words always
inspire me:
Yesterday is gone.
Tomorrow has not yet come.
We have only today.
Let us begin.
Almost every page contained some other tidbit that I'll want to refer
to again--and again . . . to cite just a few others:
* There is much suffering in the world-
very much. And this material suffering
is suffering from hunger, suffering from
homelessness, from all kinds of diseases, but
I still think the greatest suffering is being
lonely, feeling unloved, just having no one.
* Examine your heart first, though,
to see if there is any lack of forgiveness
of others still inside, because how can we ask
God for forgiveness if we cannot forgive
others?
* It is so easy to be proud, harsh, moody
and selfish, but we have been created for
greater things; why stoop down to things
that will spoil the beauty of our hearts?
And, lastly, there's this one which is one of
my all-time favorites:
* We can do no great things-only small things with great love.

Everything starts with prayer means everything we do should begin with a prayer: an interview, house hunting, the day, a quick drive to the store, an exam. Such a deceptively simple title yet so profound. To start every 'thing' we do with a prayer - of help, thanks, or guidance - surely can only be wonderful for us and Him.

My employer asked me to read this book, and being a dutiful employee, I did. Most of the advice Senske proffers is sound common sense: Do right by your customers, your employees, and your family, and doing good will result in your doing well. The book grows out of modern management literature rather than the Bible, and Senske virtually ignores Old Testament stories that might have been applied to management training. Nevertheless, the Scripture he does use is handled sensibly and without guile. I dropped the book one star for not including an index.

Dr. Senske has outlined very practical applications for leaders of any type of organization. He outlines what it takes to be an ethical and effective leader. He explains how to appropriately respond to challenges and dilemmas that await leaders at every turn. Having served on the board of directors of Lutheran Social Services of the South with Dr. Senske as CEO, I have witnessed first hand the effectiveness of what he outlines in the book. A must read for all leaders!

Senske's Executive Values is an excellent resource for managers at any organization, profit or nonprofit, large or small, faith-based or secular. This well-researched, compact book lays out the steps one needs to take to ensure that a culture of "doing the right thing" occurs in an organization. He sets out examples of ethical dilemmas every manager is certain to encounter and walks the reader through the decisionmaking process.
Looking forward to his next book!

"Executive Values" clearly presents the pressures and seemingly conflicting responsibilities experienced by those in positions of management and leadership. A Christian approach to solving these dilemmas is presented in logical and humane ways. Kurt Senske gives much evidence that the "bottom line" is not the highest priority. Not only will CEOs and other executives be interested in this recommended application of the Golden Rule, but I also urge the church professionals - pastors, school administrators, youth leaders - to give it serious attention.

The Enneagram reflects nine personality types that form spiritual realities for you to experience through your interactions in day to day life. Keys are given to unlock 'fixations' in your life in order for you to move on and experience personal life transformation. Great insights expounded about enlightenment.
Powerful for freeing you from limitations.
Even better when read together with "Nexus" a New Age novel that is a true psychological and spiritual adventure.

This is truthfully the best book ever. If you know anything about the enneagram, this book will let you know what the enneagram is made for. Alright, it's fun to think about all the frilly little quirks inherent in the enneagram that the "other" books like to get stuck on, but this book is actually the real thing. The JUICE. The whole point lies between these covers. If you are looking at this review, you need to buy this book. Get it used if you are low on money, just get it and read it.

Reaching far deeper than the 'standard' personality approaches to the enneagram, this book really opens the gates to those who are seriously pursuing the Work of self-liberation.

You'll discover a new gem of divine wisdom on each page, try just one every day if you like, but like me you probably won't be able to put the book down once you've started. Emmet has a cure for all of our problems, fears & worries on each page. Nice short easy to digest stories that you can put into practice instantly.
Although it's 80 years old the book & the message is very clear & easy. If you read this before "The Power Through Constructive Thinking" then make that your next choice!

As the newness of 2008 wears off, many of us have returned to our old ways. Our to-do lists tyrannize our days, and it seems twenty-four hours simply aren't enough to `get it all done'. Enter Abby Seixas, a smart thinker who's devised a plan to help us women stay on track without falling into the trap of too-much-doingness. Finding the Deep River Within: A Woman's guide to Recover Balance and Meaning in Everyday Life, fulfills on its promise. In six simple steps, freedom from the tyranny of our busy lives is ours. Ms. Seixas advises us to take time in, create boundaries, befriend feelings versus the rejection we often bring to negative emotions; reduce high expectations of ourselves; practice being in the moment; and, my favorite, doing something you love.
How much time do we spend each day doing the things we think we have to do? What compels us to complete these despised rituals? There's safety in misery, if it's familiar. Ms. Seixas allows us to break free of the chains that have bound us. Through gentle, guided exercises and a victory log to record our triumphs, this book offers a wholesome perspective on the insanity to which we subject ourselves. Finding the Deep River Within is a quiet place of the soul. It's nice to know there's someone who's found it for herself and wishes to share that joy we all carry within.

I am a major fan of the hardcover edition of this book and plan to order paperbacks as gifts for my friends. Author, Abby Seixas, tackles the subject crucial to all of us living in this culture of rush: how to slow down and live more effectively, enjoyably, and unselfishly. She provides practical tools on how to quiet your racing thoughts, live in the moment, and realize the life you were meant to live. Too often, we are slaves to unnecessary stress which limits the lives we were meant to lead. This book will help you not only to stop and smell the roses but to feed and nurture the whole garden that is your life. The price and the time you will spend on this book will be returned to you 10 times over in the rewards you will reap in your daily life.

Abby Seixas' warm, wonderful guide left me in tears: tears of gratitude and recognition. I have four children, co-own a business with my husband, homeschool my two older children, and recently launched a second business: my life is full. I began "Finding the Deep River Within" on a day when I was exhausted, overwhelmed, feeling inside out, and wondering how I could make the various pieces of my life work.
Reading her book was like talking with a wise older sister or aunt. As women in the 21st century, we have so many opportunities. And yet those endless opportunities can create their own stress: If we can do everything, and we have endless choices, then how do we pick and choose to create a fulfilling, passionate life?
This is not a how to organize your life guide. It's a how to find yourself---your true self, your spirit---guide.
I read voraciously, at least a book or two a week, and Finding the Deep River Within was one of my favorite books I read this year: it's that good.

"A deep river" is a marvelous alternative metaphor for living that feels like endless "white water." While Seixas' advice to take time for yourself, befriend your feelings, and do what you love is not new, her written expression is compelling--even enchanting.
