... will find this book an interesting read. I found it purely by accident, and am really glad I did -The stories are captivating, and I can relate to most of them. I read Laurie Conrad's "The Spiritual Life of Animals and Plants" last year, and was completely mesmerized by her free-flowing, personable style. I think anyone who has read her beautiful work will also very much enjoy "God's Messengers".

I love GOD'S MESSENGERS!!! I especially loved the story written by Richard Simmons which is about his mother Shirley and her two Dalmations. I never knew Richard had a spiritual bent to his outgoing public personality. Dalmations also played an important part of my life as I grew up and as with Richard's mother my emotional and physical health was better because of our dogs. We have most of Richard's exercise tapes. Now we know a different deeper side to Richard Simmons. GOD'S MESSENGERS: WHAT ANIMALS TEACH US ABOUT THE DIVINE is a must read for those who want a feel good book filled with thought provoking wonderful stories. There are many great stories but I also really liked the story about Gonzo.

It was treat to see Willard Scott endorse God's Messengers on the NBC Today Show last Thursday morning. He said it was a "wonderful book" plus he added that it was a book about how animals teach us about life. I read God's Messengers and totally agree with Willard's comment! Like they say -- read one story out of this book and never view our pets and other animals the same way again!

This is a heartwarming book full of many stories about how humans can learn a lot from animals. It is uplifting, will make you laugh and will also make you cry. It is a great coffee table book, I display it in my office and it has diverted many intense business conversations into those about our pets, their unconditional love and their devotion.

This account of the life of a dearly loved first child called Elie, and of the profoundly difficult choices her parents confront so early in her life, is nothing short of luminous. It is one thing to suffer the pain of your child's illness; it is entirely another to put pen to paper and to share this extraordinary story with the world. In doing so, Kent Gilges inspires us to find joy, hope and resilience as we witness his family's struggle. A Grace Given spans a young couple's courtship, the joy of their first child, the tragedy of her declining health, the sense of powerlessness in dealing with an unknown medical landscape, the unwavering love a family shows a little girl living every day against the odds, and the inevitability of her loss. It also sheds light on how individuals cope with tragedy differently, yet still comprise a strong web of support as family, friends, and community. It takes real bravery to open up your family's life in a published book, and the author certainly exposes his heart to us. Beyond that, in grappling with his own deeply philosophical questions about the meaning of life, he prods us gently to do the same. As a "lapsed Catholic" (certainly in terms of organized religion) myself, I approached what seemed like religious inquiry skeptically; I admit I didn't fully appreciate the import of the author's meeting with the Pope. But what I did fully appreciate was the context of Kent's inquiry as a human being and as a father, which inquiry was to my mind perhaps more philosophical than religious: inspired by his daughter and the questions her life and her illness raise for all of us. This book forces us to confront questions about the role of spirituality in our own lives. It helps us to see the valuable role faith can play in others' lives. And it does so with intelligence, warmth, and wit.

Recently I received A Grace Given for review written by Kent Gilges. This book was both a joy to read and hard to read. In it Kent Gilges who is the father of Elizabeth a child born with a brain tumor is told. This is truly a story of faith and profound grace. Often it reminded me of what C.S. Lewis had told to Sheldon Vanauken that the had received a severe mercy.
The book is written quite wonderfully and it is evident that the author is a talented writer able to relate a tragic story that becomes not so tragic through grace. The author came from a pretty much non-religious background and could be best described as a lapsed-agnostic. There was not a denial of God, but neither much acceptance of God in his life. His wife is Catholic and you can see his own journey in faith and his questioning throughout the book. While his trajectory towards the Catholic Church is evident in the book, it does not appear evident that he has yet joined the Church.
It is such a testament to grace that this couple in the struggle of acceptance of the reality of their daughter illness and the subsequent time caring for her that they never went through a period of doubting and blaming God. There is such beauty and acceptance in them and so much love for their daughter that this book is best read with a box of tissues nearby. You come to know and love their daughter yourself through her fathers' eyes. Their praying for a miracle and going to Lourdes and receiving a private audience with Pope John Paul II are part of the story, but it is the miracles of grace that are most evident in this book.
The book is written as both a sequential retelling of the events as they occurred and with various stories and reflections throughout. This book deserves a wide audience as a testament to Elie and her parents love for her along with the effects of grace in their lives.

The life of Elie can heal your faith and transform your life. Read this book and make peace with the world around you. A great theologian and leader of the Catholic Church has once told me that in all our discussions about suffering we must not forget that there are people out there who live the answer. Elie has lived the answer.

My copy of A Grace Given was received on a Monday. I put it aside until a later date when I would have time to look at it. Well, that time came the followng Thursday as I was relaxing after lunch at home. I work a lot at home. I picked up the book and read a few pages and the next thing I knew it was nighttime and I had finished the book. And, I felt all aglow! It was an intriguing journey and one which will stay with me forever. One thing is clear, Kent Gilges knows how to write! He knows how to put his feelings, beliefs, worries, knowledge, compassion, and most of all love on the written page.Perhaps its because I know his wife's family that I took this so personally, but I don't think so. Anyone who has ever known someone who has had illness in their family will appreciate this journey. And who has not? I'm thinking of buying perhaps a half dozen or more so that I might give it as gifts to the young people in my family for birthday, graduation, Confirmation, or any excuse I can dream up -- it is that powerful. Kent not only received a tremendous Grace from God but the fact is he "received" it, he took it and he used it and he loved it as we all should with the graces given to us by God. A high school friend of mine has been bed ridden for thirty years with MS and she had seven children. They took that grace and they loved her and cherished her and took care of her as no other ever would. They would fight over who would take care of her! She spoke not a word for the last ten years of her life and was on life support and feeding tubes for the last two. That family, as Kent's and Liz' has, received this wonderful gift of grace, named Elie, and loved her and let her lead them to a closer relationship with God. This book will enlighten your life as no other ever has. Enjoy it and your future life!

Kent Gilges writes beautifully. Following his spiritual journey during the ten years that his daughter, Elie, was physically present, was a very positve experience for me. It has reinforced, validated and broadened my own views on life--arrived at only after 82 years of experience. I am impressed that one as young as Kent has arrived "there" already--and even moved beyond; it must be Elie's blessing.

Our family homeschools, and we're wandering through the Middle Ages this year. I just finished reading The Grail Code and then stayed up too late to finish wandering around the website ([...]) which is full of fascinating stuff, including links on their Scriptorium page to the texts that are discussed and quoted in the book.
Did you know you can read the old French original of Chretien de Troyes' "Lancelot, or, The Knight of the Cart," if you so choose? (Alas, if only I were able to so choose. The only French I remember from high school is "Ou est la salle de bain?" A vital phrase, oui, but limited. But I digress.)
The Scriptorium page of their website alone is worth a look, even if you skip the book. But, don't skip the book -- I learned volumes about the Grail, its origins and its chroniclers.
The website also whet my appetite for more Grail art and Aquilina and Bailey will even help you out with "How to Pronounce Those Impossible Welsh Names."
I admit that my Grail-Lancelot-Arthur knowledge is fairly limited. I have a passing-to-average acquaintance with Camelot (enough to know that I don't picture Lancelot as Robert Goulet.) I knew about Malory, of course, and we have a few books that I rounded up for the kids this year. I first read T.H. White's "The Once and Future King" when I was in high school, and loved it dearly.
What The Grail Code offered me, though, on top of fascinating lore and legend, was a great historical look at the rise and fall of the story and the world's enduring fascination with it. The authors' quest takes us through the Grail's sacred beginnings, into periods of secular, cultish appeal, traces why and how those changes happened, and finally, routes us back to what the Grail really means:
What (or Who) is our quest really about? What makes us thirst so, and how is that thirst quenched?
When my daughter asked me what I was reading, I gave her a short teaser version, and she said, "Wow ... searching for the cup ... that would make a great story!"
Ahem. Clearly, I've not covered Arthur with her in any depth (and she's never seen the Indiana Jones movie, either.)
I might just hand her "The Grail Code" and let her know that her quest is about to begin.

Having taken a course in Grail legends in college (so many years ago that the professor quite possibly knew Arthur), I was curious to see what the author's take would be on this vast subject. Mr. Aquilina calmly surpassed my expectations.
This book is a concise and lilting journey through the various stages of the growth of the Arthurian legends. I was happy to see the author include aspects of the myriad authors that were left out of the college course I took. Mr. Aquilina uncovered the yearning for the meaning of life and ultimate destiny in the legends that was missing from my class. Perhaps because my professor came was a self-proclaimed Anglophile (although he didn't take milk and cream with his Earl Grey), he missed the piercing Catholic underpinnings of the legends that were the foundation of the quest.
Mr. Aquilina was able, in relatively few pages to weave the nuances and intracacies of humanity's search for reason and belief in and out of the various Grail legends throughout history. I was pleased to be re-introduced to so many storytellers who I spent long nights with (usually right before exams) and to see them from a refreshingly new angle. It was like meeting an old friend whose memory has been distorted by the years. You see them as new creatures, filling in the details with new colors and textures. For me, The Grail Code completed the image in my mind of the legends, the history and the characters that mottle our literary landscape even today.
This book came to be a gem for me. I look forward to reading it again soon.
Thank you, Mr. Aquilina. It's been a pleasure.

It is unfortunate that The Grail Code will be seen by some merely as a work refuting The DaVinci Code. Such a misunderstanding might lead readers grown tired of the Dan Brown controversy to overlook it. In truth, the Grail Code is far more than another refutation of the dreadful novel. It is a superb account of the history and meaning of the Holy Grail. A must-read for those interested in the history of medieval literature.

In a world that is searching for a mestery and other explinations for the Grail, this book puts it all in perspective. Clear and concise writing along with scriptural refeance makes this the perfect book for those seeking the True Grail. Debunks many of the myths and misconceptions about the Grail and what it is. I recomend this for everyone who found to many flaws in the argument presented in The DaVinci Code.

One of my favorite books this year, Grail Code is the thoughtful answer to a question that has been on my mind for years, well before Dan Brown unleashed the merchandising behemoth that The Da Vinci Code became: namely, what is the core of the Arthur/Grail stories, and how do we understand the relationship of these stories to Christian culture? Mike Aquilina and Chris Bailey have done a bang-up job with this book. It's fun, with mock arthurian stylings in its chapter heads and allusions to such popular treatments as the 1981 John Boorman film Excalibur and 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Aquilina and Bailey highlight the changing contours of the legends in the hands of men like Chretien de Troyes, Walter Map, Sir Thomas Malory, and Alfred Lord Tennyson. They've turned the history of these romances into an engaging intellectual romance; they pull the reader in to a world that is much larger than he could ever have imagined. Aquilina and Bailey capture the sense of yearning that is the strong undercurrent of these stories. They liken the tale to a jewel-encrusted relic, a tale that grew in reverent retelling. Christian theology, British history, romance and adultery, this is a wide-ranging, romping read.

Invaluable guide to the turning year from the grandmother of womens' spirituality in the U.S. Includes several holidays from ancient traditions for every month of the year, and offers beautiful rituals that honor the earth. Simple rites that anyone can do alone or with friends. I've used mine so much it's falling apart, finding inspiration in the coldest winter, in the hottest summer, plus lots of little-known facts about the origin of holidays.

A very special book, that gives ideas for feasts and holidays through the year. Every month begins with a Goddess who tells the story of that month, and then the days of the month follow with feast for all kinds of Goddesses. The nice part of this book is that there are so many different feasts and Goddesses, everyone can find a Goddess of her liking here.
The only thing that I can say against this book is that sometimes the historical information is not correct, due to Budapest's overwhelming feminism, that gets a bit irritating after a while.

This is such a powerful book. This book is written as if the author is talking directly to me and exactly addressing my life problems. Amazing book. This is not a book it is a formula, it is a tool that helped and transformed my life to better.
It talks about energy centers in the body, the impacts in our daily life, how to handle a problem, the awareness for the problem, intellectual understanding and easy meditation techniques.

This is definately not your typical shallow self help book. This book provides practical answers to life's difficulties. I keep it next to me on my nightstand. If I have a problem or question with my life -- I always seem to find the solution in this book.
This book provides an excellent path to spiritualize your life. Negative emotions like Worry, fear, jealousy, greed block spiritual energy and create the suffering in our lives. This book deals with transcending these negative emotions and transforming your life to to exude constant bliss. This state of constant bliss is Nithyananda or enlightenment.
The Buddha only promised on thing to this disciples -- the end of suffering. Nithyananda delivers in an easy to read and follow language.

If you are planning to gift someone a book (including yourself!), then this is the one you should gift! It's applicable for any age group, and for any occasion. I gifted this one to a friend on her marriage, and the newly weds enjoyed it!
Once you know your mental set up, you will reach greater heights in life. This book doesn't give any complex philosophical jargons, but pertinent truths written in simple language, which will make your daily living blissful. Surely, as the name suggests, it's GUARANTEED to work on you and your life's problems!
Here's an excerpt from this 600+ page book:
"All the beauty products tell you repeatedly that you are not good enough. You start feeling guilty of your own inadequate body. What do you do? You go and buy their products and use them. You automatically fall into their control. Once you use them, you are engulfed with one more feeling of guilt -- 'did I go into all this trouble for this after all?' The moment you achieve something, the first feeling that engulfs you is guilt."

GUARANTEED SOLUTIONS provides the Way, the Way to undo effects from the past and the Way to bliss and enlightenment, while still living in the human body!
Other books may point out problems and they may even offer ideas for solution. But, do they work? Are they lasting? After doing them are we any different? Do they do anything more than offer hope? Is there evidence that what they write is true and reproducible? Do they offer thousand-year-old techniques BASED UPON SCIENCE? And most importantly, are these books written by a living, Enlightened Master?
In this book Swamiji simplifies things for seekers who want the highest quality of life possible. As a devotee of Swamiji's, I attest that every single technique he has taught and that I have tried WORKS.
Initially I was very closed to both Swamiji and his teachings due to my religious upbringing and practice until, that is, I actually applied his teachings to everyday life and practiced his techniques. The bliss I feel and the success I continue to experience bring me a type of wealth that is immeasurable - I am becoming more and more the I that I was meant to be. It is like being born again.

I have used this drum kit several times since I purchased it. It is very helpful to have the CD's for instruction to be able to play along with the music. i however do not feel the cards that accompanied were useful to me. I have also purchased native american drumming music and have been able to play along with those CD's using my drum and with help from the instructional CD's in this kit.

This is wonderful!
I purchased this so I could learn to play a frame drum for healing and spiritual edification. This kit is helping me to accomplish this.
The drum is beautiful, light weight, and easy to play. The book, CD, and cards are a great combination of tools from which to learn.
This program is laid out so that it is easy to understand. I have NO previous experience or training, yet I feel comfortable and successful as I learn with this kit.
The drum kit far exceeded my expectations. It was developed by someone who truely understands the drum and how to teach others to play it.

This is the perfect hand drum and learning manual to start with. I wish I found this years ago. The remo drum is the perfect size for traveling or just taking with you to the park or a drum circle. And the cards are amazing and easy to under stand. The guide book is also full of very good information. Ive recomended this to a few friends of mine already.

The Healing Drum Kit is amazing. I have always loved drum circles but have lacked one thing, confidence. The kit has helped cure me of that & I can not wait until our next drum circle. I do energy healing & sound healing work & I have used mostly rattles & singing bowls but not I have a new tool. I also do Shamanic style Journeying & until now have had no luck doing it while I drum for myself & now I am even making
progress with that. When I first saw the kit I knew I would love to have it but I had no idea that I would be benefitting from it so much in such a short time. The drum itself is a great size for travel & sounds great for it's size.

Simple and fun way of co-creating with divine

Review Date: 2006-12-24
This book presents one of the simple and fun ways for co-creating with the divine. To this effect, the author uses the metaphors of heavenly yellow pages, heavenly temporary agencies and heavenly staff meetings and just like you would hire an assistant to help you with your project from a temporary agency or find help you need through yellow pages, the author suggests to use the similar method to get divine help.
The books is designed to inspire you and encourage you to keep in touch with divine throughout each day and to call upon divine no matter how small or mundane the tasks you need to accomplish may be. You can engage divine assistance to ensure that your everyday life is happy, healthy and fulfilling, add a divine touch to your shopping, childcare, business meeting, project preparation or fulfillment, travel, vacation, social gathering or whatever activities may be part of your day.
As you begin to live and work with divine assistance, you begin to experience all sorts of miracles in your daily life, projects get done faster, everything goes smoother and problems get miraculously solved. Your live becomes harmonious, you begin to flow with life; living becomes effortless and whatever you need to accomplish becomes more like playing.
This is one of those lovely little books you may want to buy for all of your friends and loved ones.
There are few suggestions that the author made with which I do not quite agree. One is that it doesn't matter how you word your request because the heaven has your best interests at heart. I agree that heaven has your best interests at heart, and that as a matter of fact "heaven" loves you so much that it says "yes" to whatever you ask for, cherish in your heart, keep on repeating as a statement (intentionally or unintentionally), whatever fits your beliefs and expectations. We are all experiencing the effects of our cherished thoughts, words and beliefs in our daily lives. On a more drastic note, there was a man whose daughter was very ill and who used to repeat that he'd give his right arm for the health of his daughter. He ended up having a car accident, lost his arm and at the same time his daughter miraculously recovered. I've had my share of situations that prompted me to pay better attention to the thoughts that go through my mind and to the words that come out of my mouth. As your power to manifest unfolds and you begin to have more and more experiences where one moment you think of something and the next moment it happens you realize the necessity of becoming vigilant over your thoughts and to contemplate only those thoughts which you'd love to experience in your life.
Another issue in this book was whether you should or shouldn't use phrases "I want". Some authors suggest that if you keep on using them, you'll keep on wanting forever, whereas this authors suggests that wanting is the essence of creation. None have mentioned that what really matters is the subjective experience, the feeling you have associated with those words - when you say "I want" are you experiencing a lack of the thing you want or are you subjectively experiencing an ownership of the thing you want. Feelings of neediness and desperation are not the essence of creation (if you are projecting a feeling of lack, the universe mirrors it back to you and you end up with more of the same), subjective experience of having it is what moves the energy to take the form of a desired thing and manifest in your life.
The author is in this book also discussing some old and new paradigms of asking heavens for help. Just because there are many people who have never learned how to ask heavens for help, I don't think that it constitutes the old paradigm. After all, in the Sermon on the Mount, in the Bible, Jesus himself used what the author is calling a "new paradigm". Throughout history and across the world everyone who prayed aright - whether they called it praying, co-creating, self-hypnosis, magic or by any other term, has done it following the same universal principles, the same paradigm and that is getting into the state of Oneness with the Power of Creation and creating what you desire from that state of mind.
Once you're done with this book, if you want to get even more inspired, you can pick books like Door of Everything by Ruby Nelson, Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East by Baird T. Spalding, and A Course in Miracles.

While most of the stories in Ms. Arielle Ford's book were touching it was not exactly what I expected I always thought soul mate is somebody who is really your other half, someone who fills that void within your heart, that very special person who makes you more whole than you already and with whom you have ties to from past lives and future lives. You share that unbreakable cosmic bond. When you see them there is just divine a spark between you that literally lights up both your worlds and the world becomes a heavenly place. Or then maybe I am just a hopeless romantic.

This book is truly one of my all time favorites! I've read it about 4 times now and I still get a lot out of it. I stumbled upon this book about a year ago, when I was going through a really difficult break up. I (like a lot of people) hit that moment where I swore there was "no real love affairs, no unconditional love and no such things as soul mates!" (For a hopeless romantic who never gives up on love, that's pretty bad.)
I was really, really hurt, but when out of my pain I decided to read this book I was amazed, touched, and healed. I felt hope coming back into my soul again. I felt renewed, I realized that there are such things as unconditional love, and soul mates. I regained lost hope for my romantic future.
This book is great, Arielle Ford did a wonderful job compiling all these stories and I commend her for not being judgemental of alternative relationships and including them in this book. I sincerely hope she does another book like this with more wonderful stories for hopeless romantics like me.

Beyond the woo-woo New Age feel of this... I do believe that sometimes God is trying to tell you something when coincidences happen too often to be random. Whether you believe in the new physics of love from Dr. Henry Grayson, or in allowing The Circle by Laura Day to lead you to love, or perhaps feel that Attracting love in is the name of the game (there is a book on this too) .... maybe some people ARE meant to be. Squire Rusnell documents this in his "God winks" books too. Since I am writing this on the birthday of my own lost love (see my review of Laura Day's Practical Intuition in Love, Happy Birthday Giovanni, I still love you my favorite Pisces/Aries) ... I'm all for this book for those who are meant to be. So savor and cherish a memory. Don't forget the hot chocolate to warm your heart.

Whether you're married (or single and looking) this little gem will give you a renewed sense of hope and refresh your perspective on romance. How wonderful to realize that love is more than an ecstasy; but also a unique opportunity to develop oneself spiritually. After reading these stories, it seems the universe has a plan that we all have a special place in. An absolute delight, I'd give it six stars if I could...

This beautiful book is a feast to read. I loved Wendy's insights into the process of becoming a vessel God can use, for our good and his glory. As she writes about being an artist fashioning clay, I found myself on a delicious journey into her world. And for me, the reminder to view the Potter's work through the perspective of time was just what I needed to hear in this season of life.

Impressions in Clay deepened my desire to become a vessel of worth as Wendy molded my thoughts through poignant stories and powerful imagery. The authoritative chronicle of the sculpting process left my heart yearning to become all that I was created to be. Thank you, Wendy, for calling me to the Potter's wheel.
