Wirs draws us in to an initiation of sorts; a commitment to begin this journey into the depths of our being. The aching for soul-life & the yearning for a spiritual way of being in a material world provide the impetus, & Wirs offers moving & inspiring food for thought with his own personal dialog, as well as the wise words of great minds from the past & present, combined with his striking photographic imagery.
A wonderful book, very moving.

Karyn Kedar understands and addresses the sense of loss and isolation which are too often part of the human experience. She confirms that our dreams and hopes are attainable, when we work to connect with others, look for meaning in the day to day, and realize God is found in a myriad of places we would least expect. When we look and listen closely, God is softly speaking to and directing us.
This book is sustenance for the spiritually hungry.

God's Ultimate Best Kept Secret!Review Date: 2008-02-19
You see, I understood very little of God's ultimate passion. I had an incredibly weak idea of God's purpose on this earth and therefore my part in it. I knew God loved me and wanted me to live forever, but as to why, how and for what, I had no idea. Oh, I thought I had it all figured out, but as I began to delve into the full richness and the glory God has stored up for us, it was as if a cascade of light flooded my soul. I now tremble at how huge God's purpose is for us! Not that I am aware of the fullness of it all, for now I realize that I have only explored a single speck of light out of a whole universe of galaxies. I am such a baby in this subject!
This book is a brand new book, written by another explorer, who is also a baby. However he has seen many things I have not and he is as enthralled with it all as I am, so I am recommending this book in hope I can recruit you to explore with us. So PLEASE, read this book... but nibble on it for you will miss out on most of it if you guzzle. And do not stop with this book, but continue to explore. And if we could share together our discoveries beyond this book, it should change how we act, love and dream, for it really does matter how we see the big picture.

I wanted to let you know that I got your book in January and how much it's meant to me. I loved this book!
I don't think I've ever heard a clearer description of God's passion. I was in one of your meetings in Williamsburg in 2004 and heard you talk about "the lady" in Williamsburg, but I didn't 'hear' like I did when I read this book.
I think I'm 'seeing' for the first time some things I've only known about vaguely. I received a clearer understanding of God's 'loneliness,' His 'romantic intention,' and His need for 'a place to stay.' One of the greatest impacts though was seeing that the Bride of Christ is a corporate woman and not individuals living independently (which is where I am right now). When I read the chapter "Exiting the Desert of Waste," I began to say to God, "I don't want to die in the wilderness. Lead me out and into the fullness of your purpose for my life."
This book was life to me. It's changing so many of my thoughts about God and about myself as I relate to Him. Thank you, Frank, for writing this important book.

This is God's own love story. It is the story of a redemptive love, which draws the Bride of Christ into an expression of ultimate passion. The bride captivated with the bridegroom revels in his grace, to accept his love.
Frank writes with an exciting intensity and vision that is persuasive. He moves the reader to a positive response and life changing action "to let Him build us together with others in the way that He has always wanted...So that He might have His House upon this earth."
Viola is a gifted communicator stirring the reader to awaken a new perspective of self, God and the potential lying dormant within, "crying out for expression."
This is a book for "revolutionaries who are reaching for God's highest."

Good News but not Great NewsReview Date: 2004-03-17
Much of the book lacked the passion that really moves a reader to wake up to the sense of soul and spirituality and the need to address the unseen world. The book is told/read without much drama.
Keenan does share insights about life that will probably cause you to examine your priorities and direction in life. He shares stories that are relevant but that didn't seem to strike a loud enough chord to me. I think he could have gone deeper into his spiritual well to offer the reader more living water that what is here.
I think there is a lack of specificity about what he truly believes regarding the soul. He doesn't share much of his Catholic belief system but more of a watered down spirituality that ignores much of what one would expect a Catholic priest to believe.
There were some nuggets that I can take with me such as looking for the miracle in everyday life, expecting gifts from God and from life, and trusting in the guidance of providence when least suspected.
I would encourage him to be more earnest about what he believes in the future.

Moonstone Star White has given us, the readers, a great tool to help us live our life to the fullest by using our own skills and empowerment. She challenges each of us to dig deep within ourselves and pull out all we have to make those needed changes.
Initially when the reader started this book, she was not impressed. It seemed to me to be another book that was so technical, so full of philosophies that she did not want to continue reading. However, once the reader kept an open mind and took her time to read it became more clear the author's intentions.
The information on life isn't always going to be fair, and life is what you make it really makes the reader stop and think. Why should we go through life blaming others for what went wrong in our life? We and only we have the power to turn those negatives into positives. So what is stopping us? As the author says "you have to work at it." And in this fast-paced world where we want everything now-- we don't want to work.
Through "High Way From Hell" we are able to learn to go with our feelings, examine our everyday lives and learn to become the "living." A great read.

A great book for anyone going through cancer...Review Date: 2007-12-10
So you might be like me and think, why should I read this book? Well let me give you some information on why this is a must read book.
Who gets breast cancer?
All women are at risk for breast cancer. Known risk factors like having a family history of breast cancer, starting menopause after age 55 or never having children account for only a small number of new breast cancer cases every year. That means that most women who get breast cancer have no known risk factors except being a woman and getting older. (source Koman.org)
So if you are a woman and you are getting older, you have a risk of contacting breast cancer.
Ortega's books is a sixty day journey looking for hope in the midst of cancer. But don't be fooled, this book is not just for the one who HAS cancer, but for family members and friends who are helping someone through breast cancer. Ortega is open and honest about her fears, her pain, depression, and having to relying on others. God took each of these areas and gives Ortega HOPE.
Each devotional begins with a "Hope Builder" which is the bible reading for each day. She displays real honesty and humility right from the first page until you finish the last. I found I could not put this book down, I kept it in my car and read it while waiting for my kids to get out of school, it was that good.
I strongly recommend each church library to have a copy of Ortega's book, each person who knows someone going through a medical crisis. I promise you this book will bless whoever reads it.

YVONNE ORTEGA
Revell. 160pp. Paperback. $12.99
Published 2007.
A teacher and counselor, Yvonne Ortega, confronted with breast cancer, chronicles her diagnosis, surgery, treatment and recovery, traversing each phase with the help of medical skill, daily Bible study passages and prayer, as well as the aid of family, friends, colleagues, students - even strangers and convicts. Often tearfully, but also joyfully through small successes, she acknowledges her dependence on God, and her own mortality, while still looking to the future, and planning for it.
This is a work that will comfort those who have experienced cancer, or are newly diagnosed. In addition, it is a helpful read for everyone, for we are all subject to being affected by the disease, one way or the other.

Tender and Tenacious!Review Date: 2007-09-22
I have already shared this book with many, and I keep a copy on my shelf to "check out" to others who need encouragement.
So often Christians are afraid to show the very human side of their battle; because Yvonne is willing to make herself vulnerable, she gives the reader "permission" to be a Christian who is still living in a very human body and soul.
I laughed with her, cried with her, and rejoiced with her as I followed her journey. I fell in love with her committed friends and church family. I wanted to emulate the dedication and service of her medical team. And I found myself hoping that I will face my own challenges with even a fraction of the tenderness and tenacity she has shown.
Read Yvonne's journey. Share it with those you love. You will be a richer person for it.

On each left-hand page is a black and white fine art photograph taken by the author. On each right-hand page is a brief biographical confessional told in first or third person, and a one-line quotation. The book is divided into five major parts reflecting the stages in the author's spiritual journey or experience: Stone Cracking, Mud Settling, Lake Stilling, Mist Lifting, Sun Rising. In another section, using a question and answer format, the author elaborates on various points raised in his written confession.
The photographs are haiku-like, particularly conveying esthetic loneliness, solitude, or sabi. The writing could be called prose poetry. Here are two examples, one told in third person, one in first person:
"No longer feeling in synch with the Solid world of his peers -- he simply gave it up and walked away. He hoped to find some way to stabilize those mystical glimpses."
"Alone I spent my days and nights. Alone I was most often. Of all the deeper level of Hell, Loneliness must be the darkest."
In the question and answer part of the book, the author's voice becomes conversational. Responding to the question, "Do you have to escape from the world, as you did, to find inner peace?" he says in part, "I doubt it. I'm a pretty introverted kind of man, so escape was the most comfortable and natural method for me to get really serious about my quest."
In a relaxed, non-dogmatic way, the author speaks of people as falling into three categories of spiritual development: solids, liquids, and ethereals. It is implied that most of us are solids. Some of us can become liquids. And very few are ethereals, or enlightened. He himself is a "liquid" who is sometimes a solid and sometimes in the ethereal realm. "This is the true story of my journey, from a very Solid, normal person, to a very Liquid, fluid one. I am not enlightened, but I am no longer normal either."
The different voices, the photographs, the one-line quotations, come together to bring the reader a story that is solid in its wholeness. The haiku-like photographs and the poetic quality of the prose confer a liquidity or fluidity to this autobiography. As for the ethereal, Wirs hints that it can be known anywhere at any moment: "Emptiness here is the same as Emptiness there." It is certainly manifest in many of the photographs as sabi.
This is a concise, artistic spiritual autobiography. It is also a book of photographs. He speaks of the journey from solid to liquid. This book is sound, esthetic, pointed, and honest (the author doesn't claim to be enlightened or to have all the answers). It will be enjoyed by anyone who appreciates fine art photography, who is a spiritual seeker, or who enjoys reading spiritual autobiographies. Whether you are a solid, liquid, ethereal, or nothing in particular, you will connect with this true story, this quest; it will flow toward you, and you toward it.
