EXCELLENT DEVOTION/BIBLE STUDYReview Date: 2007-07-16
Perfect for All Women - A Must ReadReview Date: 2005-01-18
Shirer points out that women are Royalty, and they need to look for their place in God's Court. As daughters of the King, women should put on their own crown and at once take upon the qualities of one in a royal court.
It is vital for women to claim their inheritance. If they don't' they block God's purpose for their life and insult Him by trying to be someone they are not.
Though the book or workbook can easily be used separately, together they provide a more complete tool.
The book(s) are filled with topics, which encourage women to be women, to glory in their likeness to God, and to embrace the fact they were specially fashioned by Him.
The book version includes in each chapter: a study, a prayer and a list of things to consider.
The Journal is unique. Chapter by chapter, it accompanies A JEWEL IN HIS CROWN perfectly. Questions, quotes and scriptures are designed to bring a woman's gem-like qualities to the surface, where they belong.
Shirer relates her own difficulties in relationships and then later, candidly shares the important lessons she learned from overcoming the trials.
Both books are rich with tools to bring all women into the glory of their womanhood.
Audience: A JEWELL IN HIS CROWN, the book and journal, is suitable for teens and young adult women. Older women will benefit as well, as the knowledge extracted from these books will teach women about their value as a woman, and prepare their spirits, mind and bodies for the man God has chosen for them. By doing so, and applying the principles in the book and journal, unmarried women can then enter into a married union with the fullness of grace God has provided, with the man God has selected to be their groom.
Either book, or both as a set, would be an appropriate gift to a young woman in her teens and can aid all women in their journey as God's woman.
Married and older women as well will enjoy the set and be able to deepen their understanding of their place in God's Kingdom, their place on the earth, and their place in other people's lives.
A Real Jewel You Can Treasure!Review Date: 2004-10-09
Let's face it most women have issues that often stem from a lack of self-esteem. In her first book, Priscilla Evans Shirer, does a wonderful job of reminding women they are "precious jewels" in the eyes of God. She shares stories of well-known Christian women as well as her own personal experiences. Priscilla's personal stories really touch you. While she is the daughter of noted author and speaker, Dr. Tony Evans, she lets the reader know she has a style of her own and she too has been where they have been.
There is no psychology mumbo-jumbo - just straight talk! At the end of each chapter, Priscilla provides questions to consider and a prayer that addresses the subject matter of that particular chapter. This is a must-read for women of all ages, whether married or single.

Exellent book. Review Date: 2008-05-14
I recommend it to anyone that it's feeling tied up in life, one who is fearful or anxious. It's a great book for those who are willing to be open minded, and wants to receive the best. One who wants to move up in life and enjoy it while forgiving those who we have held captive in our insecurities and gruges.
Must read and give as a gift. It's food for the mind, and easy to read.

No Wonder Such A Wonderful BookReview Date: 2003-03-19
As it is written, from Paul in I Corithians, chapter 15.
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures....
From the Cross comes Words spoken in the Lord's final acts. The words come from Luke, chapter 23. He spoke to all of us through time. He saw each one of us. From His suffering, His pain and His shame to our sickness, our sin and our doubt. His cry, "Father, forgive them." [Luke 23:34] was enough. To all the Bernhard Goetz's who lash out in anger for injustice. There is justice. To the criminal who died on the Cross next to the Savior there is hope. For those finding a way out there is pardon and forgiveness. To the solider or missionary who leaves loved ones behind. For Love is built NOT on passion and romance but on mission and sacrifice. That eternity is closer than any Good-bye, but in reality 'see you soon.' To all the Judith Bucknell's who cry in loneliness. He reached out from the Cross to your lonely heart. It was Jesus in his hour of abandonment, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' [Matthew 27:46]. When no one else loves you. He is going to love you. He always has. He was fulfilling prophecy. When you're tired and thrist. He knows that, too. God became flesh and dwelt with us to know everything we have ever done with compassion He carried it with Him to the Cross.
The witnesses who were there and saw the miracle of salvation. Even those who ran away. There was a great price paid. He sacrified His life. We all know what had happened that day. The message is in our tears. No education, maturity or religion can separate us from His passion. From the Cross' wisdom comes the open arms of undying Love and a place to come home to. Only that wisdom lies NOT as men sees it, but in Faith in the Power of God. The evidence in an empty tomb. So what does really matter to you? I'd say a living God in the flesh, making the most important decision in your life, to spread the news 'in an information age, NOT regeneration.' In Jesus' words, 'Will you tell them?' 'Will you tell them I came back and that I'm coming back again.' Will you?
NOTE: Contains a Study Guide at the end for each chapter for further study plus added notes. To Max, May God continually Bless you as you Bless us with your gift. In the Love of Jesus.

What Really Matters?Review Date: 2003-02-27
As "pain pervades the dusty planet," we can at times wonder how our suffering can better us as human beings. We feel alone roaming down here while God seems far above, safe in his heavenly paradise.
This is where Jesus Christ appears. In his suffering, we can see God at his most human. When the consistency of life IS inconsistency, there is someone who understands.
Jesus died for people instead of taking revenge. He didn't retaliate even when he was facing death. He takes our sin on his shoulders and becomes the "death slayer."
Max Lucado is really writing to people who have broken hearts and who can find a lonely person simply by looking in the mirror. The land of promise is for those who endure the pain and suffering and are reborn.
I loved the story he tells about the puppy and how he explains guilt and forgiveness. He brings a human element to spiritual concepts. He also explains how we can't get rid of guilt ourselves, we really do need a savior.
A beautiful look at Christ, the Cross and why we need God.

evil than in God."
--Emmet Fox
This quote from Emmet Fox, taken out of Power through Constructive Thinking is just one small example of powerful moments of insight to be found throughout this book. Much of what Fox says back in the 1930s and 40s is echoed by today's new age teachers. Abraham-Hicks comes to mind specifically.

This one outlines in detail & comprehensively the technique for turning your thought processes into power to achieve peace, prosperity, health & happiness.
The process is easy & logical as soon as you see it. He uses Bible tracts to expand his ideas & show that this is nothing new. Mental science & the power of the mind has been around & recognised for thousands of years. Some successful people take the idea for granted & may not even realise they're using this system.
Despite the books age & the period from which it came, Emmet writes clearly & with fluidity that makes you want to carry on & finish the next chapter.
If you can just hold his ideas in place, remember them (write them down if need be) & daily put them into practice, you'll see your success's grow from day to day, followed health, happiness, prosperity & peace. All of which is nothing more than we're all clambering for - isn't it?

Fantastic surprise.Review Date: 2008-05-21
I was worried this might turn into a thinly-veiled attempt to basically brainwash kids through a story, perhaps poorly written. I am pleased to inform you that it is nothing of the sort.
While it certainly does have an agenda, it never comes across as propaganda by any means. It also happens to be exceedingly well-written. I was brought back to simpler times (which is good and which is where we all belong) and to a sense of wonder that I often sadly lack in my "adulthood". The images painted in these pages are good ones, well-conceived, and powerful, reminding me even of C.S. Lewis, or Lewis Carole for that matter, and that is no doubt the highest praise (depending upon whom you ask and how they feel about either Lewis!).
I myself learned from this little book to the point where I immediately purchased the second and made plans to re-read this one. There is no greater gift than to teach these attitudes to children. I can't even imagine growing up with such thoughts. It would be incredible, the antidote to the poison we drink with such eagerness.
If you're buying this for a kid, check it out with their parents first. Have their parents read it. I can all but guarantee they'll enjoy it, and they'll be exposed (pretty seamlessly) to some astonishing ideas and concepts, where as if it was given to a child without parental consent, they might be suspicious (and would have every right to be). I can't imagine them denying it to their child, though, after experiencing it for themselves. And if you are the parent, read it yourself first and make the decision on your own, regardless of what we say.
Also, I should note this is a book written so most all ages could enjoy it; it is not, per se, a "children's" book. The second book in the (as of now) trilogy is honestly even better. Esther turns out to be quite a storyteller! She could easily make a living with storytelling as her primary occupation. She is much more than just a "tool" for Abraham. Well done, my dear friend. We hear so much from Abraham (and gratefully so) that we neglect to realize what an amazing, talented and incredibly beautiful person Esther herself is (and let's not leave Jerry out, so content most of the time to ride gleefully in the backseat, Abraham driving, Esther taking shotgun).
This is a fictional book, but Solomon's lessons are not fictional at all, and that gives me a greater joy than I could ever convey with words, and it truly takes me back to a time, before I had been inundated with society's norms, when that kind of joy and wonder came to me excessively easily. Just writing this review and reflecting upon my thoughts, I am brought nearly to tears.
Don't lose that joy, and don't let anyone take it from your kids. And for God's sake, don't take it from your kids yourself, something adults continuously do unconsciously and with the utmost well-meaning (I know I do this myself, but we can learn to stop as soon as we realize that "All is truly well").
Please give this book a chance. It is, as of yet, something of a secret. Humanity deserves for this secret to be spread.
And speaking of "The Secret," there is a reason that became "pop" and this did not, the reason being this is the real stuff. This is the real secret, and it is a secret to be shouted from the rooftop.
Esther, thank you so much, from all of us.

Trusting Your Vibes Frees Your SpiritReview Date: 2008-04-03
Writing with clarity and honesty, this down to earth pychic also has a great sense of humor, and never allows you to take yourself too seriously.
Instead of worrying and fretting over every little thing, which your ego and your reason urge you to do, she advises you to be lighthearted, spontaneous, and to go with the flow. By living in the spirit, doing what you want to do, and not what others would have you do, your life can turn around and you can become the person you were meant to be.

Some of the tips she suggests for increasing intuitive awareness are playing intuitive games where you try to guess what the outcome of something is going to be, what is going to happen next, and in general paying attention not only to what your mind tells you, but also to what your heart and your body tell you, what do you sense and how do you feel. Sonia also offers many useful suggestions for dealing with increasing sensitivity of which also you may become aware in different ways - through sounds, physical sensations, smells, or in any other way.
If you feel stuck, Sonia suggests you ask for help from above, simply by saying "Help" to God, angels, spirits guides, devas, deities, ancestors, saints, etc. - whoever you feel affinity to according to your beliefs and spiritual practices.
Sonya also suggests many different ways to pick yourself up, if someone or something has pulled you energetically down - think of something you love or something you can feel grateful for and when you feel recharged with energy deal with the issue appropriately.

We ARE Eternal!!!Review Date: 2005-12-02
He begins by discussing his "early years" - including the fact that he started off as a "certified skeptic" - with his original goal being to prove the non-existence of psychic abilities. From this point, he shows how & why his views changed, as well as when he realized that he actually had this gift that could be used to help others in so many wonderful ways...
Mr. Brown then goes on to discuss what he's learned over the years regarding various "major" life topics, such as:
Suicide - you can't run away from anything, even through death.
Death of Children - there is a "reason"
Disease - the need to maintain positive thoughts, the damage of prolonged negative thoughts, and the need for there to be a balance between the body & the spirit
Disabilities - we all have the "right" body for our mission
Religion - it's time for people to move away from "blind" faith, and return to their spiritual roots. He also discusses the good and the bad of some of the world's largest religions.
Some of the other topics discussed include: pets, reincarnation, karma, life after "death", and what happens to "evil" people.
Overall, I found this to be an easy, interesting read. As such, I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in spirituality &/or the "paranormal". An open mind is a must!

While reading the book, We were able to find strength in knowing that he still existed, that this was not the end for him but rather a new beginning. My husband, who rarely ever reads, read it at least 20 times. We became stabalized and when we fell pray to our grief, we read it again and found strength. This book got us through and continues to get us through the toughest times of our lives.
We will never see death the same way again. It has forever changed our understanding of who we are and what we are here for.
He's for real, but the book doesn't tell muchReview Date: 2006-07-29
The subtitle of this book is "What the spirits tell me about life after death". The problem is that this book does not live up to that promise. It tells next to nothing about life after death. For that, your best bet is Journey of Souls by Michael Newton, the very best book ever written on the subject, taken as a unit with his second book Destiny of Souls. Newton's third book doesn't add much and focuses on less interesting matters.
What did I learn here about life after death? I forgot. Not much. Warning bells started going off early, when the author was simply too chatty, taking too much time to tell us his early adventures in mediumship, making us wait too long for some information of substance. Whenever an author does that, you can reasonably suspect that he isn't going to tell us much.
Give me a minute to remember ONE THING that I learned from this book about life after death. He said that we fall into four different basic types - teachers, healers, warriors, and philosophers. I'd be a teacher. I am always shooting off my mouth about things. Communication is a mania with me, which is why I write so many Amazon reviews. Also, I can take a kid who is failing high school math and turn him into an A student in one or two lessons because I have a gift for teaching, by determining what the person already knows, and building on that, rather than by following my own agenda and hoping he gets it.
I can see myself spending a lot of time with the Akashic records, viewing Napoleon's battles, seeing history develop from a bird's eye view, that sort of thing. I'm always reading books now, in this stupid life. Imagine how much I'll be "reading" back home, when the "books" are what we call reality.
I wish this book lived up to its subtitle and told us much more about what our lives are like when we leave this life. I have so many questions. None of them are answered here.

it changed my life.Review Date: 2005-09-19
My life had never been the same.
Today I am a 24 years old and a Master of Divinity student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. As I am sitting in front of my computer weeping for all the hardships I have been through in my life, the prayer that I made 11 years ago came to me. I opened that 11 years old book and read that chapter again. I realized that my life has indeed been in His hands over all these years and through all the hardships.
In all, God is transforming me into a humble servant for Him, and in this difficult sanctifying process I am learning obedience and trusting in Him alone. This journey all started that night...reading this book.
