THEY REALLY DO TEACH YOU...

I connected with this book. She describes her own feelings and emotional bonding that I too have felt. I was raised on a ranch with two grandparents whose ideas about animals conflicted so I saw both sides and can understand more than many about animal "energy" Their Energy is everywhere and we all feel it all of the time, most not paying attention to it because it is so common a feeling.

I grew up around more animals than humans and the encounter with kids that I went to school with made me withdraw from them. I was badly pigeon-toed from having my hips dislocated when I was born and the teasing was never ending so I avoided my classmates as much as possible, and I could not wait to get home each day to hug my dog who was always there for me. Even in the bitter cold of winter he was waiting at the school bus stop....

I am not telling this story to get sympathy, I do not need it. I just want you to understand why I am passionate about this book... This Is On The Cover:
" We can find in the eyes of an animal a whole new world. In their liquid depths lies the capacity to trust, be strong, to face fear, to heal and to find love. They see us at our best, without pretense or propriety. And in return for our love and Respect, they give us the gift of ourselves-the true reflection of our Souls..."

.... Each of my animals has taught me something that has stayed with me even after they had to move forward to another realm....
They have taught me that I can give love and it is returned without question. I have learned to be calm because anger hurts and causes fear. They have taught me deformities are something you can live with by my watching them and seeing that their lives go on.
...I have learned compassion does NOT come with a price. I have learned to accept myself as I am and not worry about it. I have learned about a love that goes deep and is non-judging.....
I HAVE SEEN SELF-sacrifice first hand when my little Rat Terrier stood between me and an aggressive much larger dog. He would have died to protect me if he had no other choice.
My Soul belongs to the Animal world.

Margot Lasher is a wonderful story teller and and like most good story tellers, she takes us from considering the personal and mundane to glimpsing a better understanding of the universal. This book reinforces the deep, enriching and enlightening connection we humans have - if we allow it - with all living creatures. It encourages us to recognize key experiences where animals have entered our lives to reach us, to heal us, maybe to ask for help from us. It is a very moving book which can send us into the world with heightened awareness of our fellow creatures.

This book made me realize that I am just an animal.

I like science, but I'm not a scientist. The terminology was easy to read and although I did learn a little about the anatomy of the cell, it was mostly about how little we know about the order and structure of the universe which is also encoded within the cells of our body.
How we can make changes that affect our cellular growth and health. It was an easy book to read.

I am aware of spiritual principles describing how life works. For years I have seeking easy-to-read and understand physiology and biology to allow me to explain the grounded roots of this in lay terms. Dr. King's book does this. I would not have expected a book about cells and biology to be so fascinating that I could not put it down. And it was. Did you know that neurons reach for each other and if they cannot find connections, they die? Just like us humans!! This is Life 101 and a primer for all who want to increase their success and achievements and wisdom.

As a Life Coach and Clinical Psychologist , I have often stated that change best occurs from the inside out and that biology and nature offer us much wisdom to learn from. Joan King, In Cellular Wisdom has captured both of my beliefs and brought biology knowledge to its application in our everyday living. Cells are our most basic structure and we often ignore or are ignorant of what we can learn about LIFE from the biology of our human body.
Dr. King has written a magnificent book that is both scientific and metaphysical and offers wisdom from the body to apply to all systems in your life. Read slowly and thoughtfully.

This book is one for serious students, while it explains a very complex text in a more simplified manner, it is not to be taken light heartedly. This book is straight forward & to the point. All contents should be read & re read untill fully understood by the individual reader. On the surface the teachings may seem harmless but as the book explains you can not make the Journey into Enlightenment without encountering & facing your own dark side. While you may choose when to open your eyes to spirituality you may NOT choose what you see. Take the exercises serioulsy, and listen closly to find exactly where your answers are coming from. This book is a CORNERSTONE, an absolute MUST READ ! VERY WELL WRITTEN ! Very helpful in the education process.

The Elements of the Qabalah is a decent introduction to the subject. It is very simplified and does leave some topics out, but it's a small book and should only be read by those who are completely unfamiliar with the Qabalah. It is really just a bare bones introduction, covering the basics. If you already have even a passing familiarity with the subject, then it's likely that you won't learn much from this book. Otherwise, if you're looking for a place to start, this would be a fine option.

This is the first book I've ever read on the Qabalah. I found it very interesting, and easy to understand for someone who has no previous knowledge on the subject. A lot of the content was specific to the different spheres and their meanings. The thing I found most helpful was the exercises at the end of every chapter. They are simple, yet challenging, and they are written so people of different religions can use them for personal reflection.

Some formidable satire

Review Date: 2006-05-19
'Grey area', Will Self's second collection of short stories follow in the same tradition as his first - 'The Quantity Theory of Insanity'. Self seems to conjour up bizarre conceits, then writes them out. Overall the quality of the stories is strong, if a little mixed. Most of the stories are set around London and the M40 corridor to Oxford, the motorway acting as a surreal form of creative lodestone which exerts its influence over the stories within.

My favourites were 'Chest' a satire set in a futuristic Oxfordshire where ingrained class distinctions stubbornly prevail even though a thick, toxic fog blankets the landscape so country squires have to breathe through oxygen masks while they shoot pheasants; 'Scale' which riffs through all the myriad definitions of 'scale' in the dictionary through the eyes of a motorway worshipping morphine addict who dwells in Beaconsfield model village (hard to see how this one could translate into other languages) and 'The End of the Relationship', about a girl who is dumped by her boyfriend and subsequently finds that everyone she encounters that day is also suffering from a breakup.

Sleight of Hand

"Grey Area" is more impressive in scope and scabs than in realization. The linguistic sciolism (vituperative of me to say), the skittery plotlines, the curvy roads, the meaty chunks, flesh against my teeth, yes yes, miasma well-placed, and fluid-filled lungs remind me; "Inclusion" includes a tying of loose ends, and "The End of the Relationship" so entirely different - its (seeming) placidity rents it from the guttural slavering and pedestrian contempts of the rest. The cruelty here is even more pronounced due to its nuance and understated enunciation. There are throughout brilliant moments, but the stories often left me feeling circumspect - as though i had witnessed and was almost taken in by some elaborate legerdemain. There is an air of flippancy that detracts from the disturbing characterizations and dim, dystopian landscapes. The chthonic sturm und drang unravels a heavy damp sweater only to leave us with a string between forefinger and thumb. And still, worth the read: for the intestinal aspirations, for the restive mind at work.

Self is one of the most talented British contemporary writers and enjoys this celebrity for good reason. He writes Grey Area in an overwhelmingly cryptic tone saturated with insight in both human nature and the nature of our own surroundings in a surreal world. His observations are scientific anthropological jewels, while his writing mechanics are those of an artist. Grey Area is a book I'd recommend to not only the fan of British literature, short story format, or imaginative writing, but to the most hard - nosed non - reader

Great Book; But Not the Best on the Subject
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-28
There are oodles and oodles of books out there on how to conquer the temptations that ensnare so many Christians, especially men. Many times we legalistically to battle these sins one at a time, not seeing the big picture of what's going on, that when our lives are dominated by sin, we have not been guarding our hearts. Proverbs 4:23 says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." This book does what many others don't, it points you to your wicked and easily moldable heart as the source of your actions, both good and bad.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, the book did not deal deeply enough or thoroughly enough with the nature of sin and the importance of repentance. We have to understand that the enemy is not only outside of us, but primarily within. It is our flesh (see Romans 7:14-25). Although Rosberg would not say this, an easy conclusion to come to after reading his book is that if you keep the bad out (by removing yourself from bad influences) you are completely guarding your heart. This is only partly true. He doesn't deal with the enemy within though, that no matter how much wordly bad you run away from, you will still have to guard your heart from your flesh. The enemy isn't just the world, the enemy is your sinful nature which unless daily crucified will bring you running headlong into sin. This may be considered a minor point and Rosberg does mention it in passing in different areas. However, I felt that because of this oversight, this would not be my number one read or number one recommendation on the issue. It is a useful one, don't get me wrong, but because of the above-mentioned issue I don't feel that it is the best.

In conclusion there are two books on the issue that I would strongly recommend to be read before Guard Your Heart. Reading time is limited and it is important that discretion be taken in what to read. If after considering my recommendations you still decide to go ahead and read Guard Your Heart, you will not be led astray, but please consider my advise and try to come by the following three books and read them thoughtfully:
(1) The Enemy Within by Kris Lundgaard (ISBN: 0875522017)
(2) Not Even a Hint by Joshua Harris (ISBN: 1590521471)
(3) The Cross Centered Life by C.J. Mahaney (1590520459)

I Hope this helps.

This book gives guidance to men of faith. Dr. Rosberg shows how Christian men can find the right path. I recommend this book to wives and girlfriends of Christian men as it will reveal the heart of men of faith as they struggle with their imperfections. Dr. Rosberg has been a speaker at Promise Keeper events and has a live radio show - America Family Live.

The top snares men fall to -- workaholism, sex, pride, etc. -- and how to avoid them are all addressed in this good book by Dr. Rosberg. The author writes well and has engaging stories (many of which are gleaned from his lenghty experience as a counselor) that amplify the subject matter.

Dr. Rimm's explicit advice hit on a number of points for our family's individuals. . . amazingly correct assumptions on reactions to common mistakes and how to deal with them. I first brought it home from the library but after renewing it 5 times, I realized I might as well just purchase it for reference! I'd like to thank her in person, for she's saved my second son from his mom's poor reactions to her first son's problems. Thank you!!

It is usually difficult to get my husband to read any books, but i got him to read this one. I personally think the pointers are great, they are both pracitcal and enlightening, especially those reminding parents that they should set an example for their child. What is really excellent are the highlighted one-liners that summarise the advice in each section- the only bits I could get my husband to read !

I enjoyed this book for its coherent, "big picture" presentation. It is different from most nuts & bolts "how to parent" books (i.e. child does this, so do that), rather it discusses how to develop lasting solutions for both parent and child. This is the ONLY parenting book (and I've read 'em all!) that discusses how the PARENTS' RELATIONSHIP AND INTERACTIONS affects the children's behaviour - not in the obvious ways you think. This was very eye-opening and would be useful for all parents, those who are parenting together and those who aren't.

I found this book completely helpful to know myself better and to know how the relationships work. Although my native tongue is spanish, I find it very easy and friendly to read it in english. I have answered the most of the questions about inclusion, control, openness and now I try to have a better quality of relationship every day. I understand the reactions that come from me and the different groups around me. This book helps me to be a better woman every day. Thanks Will Schutz for this gift!!!

The best exposition of how to truly succeed in business. Will Schutz strips away the myths of personal dynamism and strategic planning as foundations of leading workers in business today. Schutz, writing with elegance, simplicity and stark clarity builds a compelling case for basing business success on telling the truth, with personal awareness, in every situation. The author mixes the rational, scientific approach to business leadership with a superbly crafted series of right-brained activities such as imagery and drawing on memories. Highly recommended for anyone tired of trying to achieve higher productivity through successive reorganizations and "downsizing."

The name of the book is "Just Who Will You Be?" and the cover art is a balloon, but honestly doesn't that balloon look more like a sperm cell than a balloon. How absolutely appropriate for a book about commencement, about who you will become, a sex cell may be the last time that those questions are still unanswered.

Review Date: 2002-05-04
The book is about non-verbal behavior, very important part of communication, since it involves about 70% of communication, the other 30% being verbal communication. I definately agree with both of the authors that most of the people don't use it to their advantage, in in the end, feel that they are not effective, yet, they can't quite put the finger on the problem as to why they are not respected, or listened to. Non-verbal communication consists of touch, facial expressions, fashion, rhythms, timing and so on.
The book is logical, and really, just common sense. My problem with the book is that it has so little to say about each topic. This book is filled with stories, case studies. When in reality, this book could have been condensed to no more than 1 page. Instead, the authors try to fill the space with endless redundunt shallow stories. They try so hard to sound self-important, they boast that they had invented a term for it -"dissimic", which simply means someone who does not communicate well non-verbally. In reality the book is about 10% good stuff, and 90% padding and stuffing.
It will make you aware of the subject, but this book is nothing new. I am sure, any communication 101 book will do a better job, with less reading.
How does one help him/herself to better communicate non-verbally? Well, according to the authors, you should find an older gentleman at work, who will constantly watch you interact with others, and after work, authors suggest, you will meet with your teacher, and go over your behavior.. Hmmm.. I am not sure about this advice..a better choice for me was Body Language by Gordon Wainwright.

This book is a tremendous resource for anyone who sees the incongruence between their own self-perception and the perception of others, or their perception of others, and would like to correct it. It breaks down the elements of non-verbal communication with descriptions that are in plain English, with plenty of practical self-evaluation tests that require the reader to engage with the book. I've never found self-books very helpful, as the authors often diverge from a psychology discussion into philosophy, but this book stays true to its promise. I highly recommend it.

I would have to disagree with the review by the Library Journal; a "mentor" should not be a family member or close friend, but should be someone who can remain objective and provide valuable, non-biased feedback. I certainly wouldn't ask someone too close to me to give me this kind of intense, constructive criticism. I tried to do the peer evaluation with a close friend, and realized how awkward it was for him to answer the difficult questions about me. I, however, found a opportunity with a empathetic manager after a recent performance review to provide this sort of mentoring.

this is an honest book about one woman's battle with postpartum depression. i commend her honesty and want to thank you for sharing her story with the world. i, too, suffer from a severe postpartum depression, with psychotic features. this has been the hardest and most difficult time of my life. alot of the feelings that michelle had experienced were right on. many people do not understand the extent that this problem brings about. it is probably the most underdiagnosed problem in the medical field. motherhood is not always a joyous time, even though we all have perfect visions of it in our minds. this woman was very courageous for sharing her story. i am sure that she will never forgive herself for what she did, she will probably only gain strength from survivng day to day. thank you for sharing your story. you have certainly brought awareness to such a tragic medical problem.

The Cradle Will Fall is co-authored by Dr. Carl S. Burak, MD, LLD and the pseudonymous Michele Remington, a real patient of Dr. Burak's practice of psychiatric medicine.

Michele's story of post-partum depression should be read by any expectant mother with a family history of depression or any physician who has a family practice or an ob/gyn specialty.

Dr. Burak has practiced psychiatric medicine for many years. In his early medical career he practiced in family practice, tribal medicine, and sports medicine. He writes with a conversational style which will draw you in to the story of Michele and her family and will rivet your attention from the first page to the last.

In the process you'll learn a great deal about the symptoms, treatment and hope for patients with clinical depression whose own doctors (or primary care physicians in HMO-speak)may know little or nothing about the devastating effects of an imbalance of chemicals in the brain.
