Farm Team is a book about fourteen-year old Billy Baggs, who lives in the town of Flint. Billy is a baseball player but can't play on the Town Team because he has to work his family's farm while his Dad is in jail. Billy's mom puts flyers up so people will come to their farm and play baseball once a week.

After a few Fridays of the Farm Team playing, Billy realized that they're not that bad. Billy tells Coach Anderson, who is helping out each Friday, that they could beat his Town Team. Coahc Anderson and the Farm Team agree to have a game to see who is better. Everyone in Flint hears about it and alot come.

This is a quick and good read. I recommend this book to anyone that plays or likes sports. It is a good baseball book. From the baseball diamond to the jail cells, Will Weaver describes the scenes in this book really well. The baseball games in this book are also described well. He uses baseball vocabulary that adds to the description of the book.

Farm Team was a good choice for me to choose. In a case where I do not like to read, this book caught my attention. Will Weaver wrote about a boy, Billy Baggs who never has time to play his favorite sport, baseball because he works on his farm so much. Billy loves baseball and wants to play it during the summer. He has so much work on his farm he has no time so his mother tells him to make a field on the farm. Billy is asked to play on his school team, but when his father gets him in trouble with the police he has little time to play at school. When Billy's father destroys a car lot Billy has to take over the farm for the summer because Abner got arrested for what he did. Abner destroyed the car lot because Randy Meyer's had sold Billy's mother a cheap car. It was rusted all over and the paint was chipping. Billy has little time to play so every Friday night he has baseball games on the field he made.
This book was very entertaining to me. I haven't really found a book this good and that I have enjoyed and actually read. This book shows sacrifices people have to make to support their family. Farm Team kept my attention through the whole book. The most exciting scene I read about was when Abner destroyed the car lot. I could picture everything that was going on and the expressions on Randy Meyer's face. He was the car dealer that ripped of Billy's family. I could fully understand this book and what the author was representing. This especially was a sports book which interests me even more. I can somewhat relate to stories about sports. Farm Team is a book I would recommend to anyone. It would be a great book to read to someone interested in sports and ways to help out others. The best part of the book is it's about a farm boy. It's a weird story but enjoyable for anybody.

This was one of my favorite books that I have ever read. This book talks about a farm boy that wants s to play summer baseball, but he has to much work to do at home. During the winter his dad Abner bought a new car that he got from up town. He did not know that the bottom has been repainted and now it starting to fall apart. They have a big bulldozer and Abner likes to take things in his own hands, so he and Billy went to take the old cat up town so that he can ruin the cars and the office where he bought the car. The cars were all smashed and they started on fire. Abner then started to bulldozer down the office that is when the police showed up. They could not stop Abner from ruining the car lot.Once Abner thought that he was done he quite and put the big cat back on to the trailer. Billy at the time was on top of the truck. It was time for the planting. That is why Abner got really mad when they made him go to jail. Billy is only fourteen and he had to bring the truck back home. Once he got home he had to get the milking done. Billy is a pitch on the baseball team. He never had time to practice or to play, but he loved the sport. His coach said that he would help him out if he could just play baseball. Billy told him that there will always be a next year. Billy had to do the all the milking and feed all of the cows twice a day. He also has to do all the ground work and the planting. Billy's mom does not think that this is a very good ideal that Billy is going to run the farm this summer. She does not like it because she thinks that it will take his whole summer away from all of his friends. Billy this is all that he has ever wanted was to run the farm all by him. Then once he gets into summer he starts to miss his baseball. His mom and he build a baseball field out in the west pastor. They have baseball games every Friday night after the all the work is done.

I have really enjoyed this book because I am a farmer. I also now what he is going through. A couple of years ago I had the choice to go and play baseball or to help out with the farm. I liked the book a lot and I would have done the same thing if I was Billy.

The people that I think would like to read this book are people that are farm kids because I think that some of the terms that it uses in the book people would not understand what he is talking about when he does the milking and the feeding.

We never know what the consequences of are actions will be it all depends on what direction you take with your life. Billy found this to be true when him and his dad committed a crime. Since Billy is still a minor he does not go to jail but has to take care of the family farm until his dad gets out.

Billy bags family is pretty normal his dad is a farmer and his mom works at a doctors office but wile his dad is in jail Billy is responsible for the farm work as baseball season goes on his mom comes up with an idea to start having baseball come to the farm .

Through the bags family tragedy it reminds him of his older brother when he starts playing or when he is pitching he always feels present

Sometimes you learn new things about people and it is not always bad although something's he doesn't what his want his dad to find out a few things until a few years later.

If you like farm life and baseball this would be a good book for you to read because it involves both. It tells the story that if you wanted to do fun things than you have to do what needs to be done before you can do fun things.

I keep a copy of this nearby in my office and pull it out for an instant smile or laugh anytime. The quotes are all short simple sentences that provide immediate gratification. If someone visits my office in a bad mood I have them open the book to a random page to find their quote for the day.

A favorite - "If I act incompetent, people will take care of me".

I highly recommend this as a gift for anyone who has a sense of humor or needs one. It is clean humor -- sarcastic humor that most people can relate to on an average day. It is a great investment, I've had my copy for about 4 years and have bought over 10 copies for gifts.

"When man Listens: Everyone can listen to God" is a wonderful book that has the authors take on the bible, and includes 12 steps
to help you with your faith and about God.

The author's language is surprisingly easy to to read and understand, and reinfores your belief in God. I am not a Christian, but I still believe in God, and this book just made be the one to convince me to try out Christianity, although it is great for non-believers. This book is not one that tries to make you a Christian, but has it's own effective way to erase your doubts, and it great in helping you understand life and that God is always there for you.

This book is truly well-written, and should be on everybody's bookcase. I applaud Carl Tuchy Palmieri, and I will look for other books he has written soon.

When Man Listens is more than the 12 steps, it takes you into the program that has been used by folks successfully for a while and shows you how you can actually apply it all to your own life-- not someone else's. Even though it is a book on Christian living, I encourage everyone to read it because it applies to living in general.

If you are struggling with your faith, this is a great book for you. If you are struggling with life, it is even better. The author helps you understand how to use the steps towards spiritual growth and understanding your faith.

Tuchy Palmieri has to be one of my favorite writers. In his latest offering, Tuchy shares God's love for His creation and helps us learn how better to open our hearts to hearing God in our lives.

With lots of insight on how to live a more Christian life, and touching anecdotes to bring it all together into a beautiful meld, this book is a must read for 12 steppers, those wanting to be closer to God, and those struggling with their faith.

When Man Listens
By Cecil Rose

This book was written as a kind of guide for everyday Christian Living. Using easily understandable analogies and anecdotes the author explains how God can use you, if you let him, to better your life and society as a whole.

If you feel like you've strayed a bit from your walk with Christ or if you are curious how to apply the God's wishes to your life this is the book for you.

This is an awesome book! I would recommend this one to anyone!!!

I learned so much from this piece, and how I can improve myself as a person simply by opening my spiritual ears. Everyone could use a little help in their lives, even if they don't realize it yet. This is a great tool to keep on hand to keep our minds refreshed and remind us to keep our ears and eyes peeled for the voice of God.

I love this book and will read it again and again.

I think that this is one of the best bereavement books I have ever read. No matter what the conditions were of your childs' death, you will find yourself in this book. This book drives home that we may be thrown into a different world when our child dies, but we bereaved parents all share many common similarities in feelings and thoughts. This book helps a bereaved parent realize that they are not alone in their grief; the emotions they are feeling are 'normal'. I would recommend this book to anyone who has lost a child and any family member or friend who knows someone who has lost a child.

This book was not very helpful in coping with the loss of my child, who died recently from cancer at the age of four. (Brain tumor) The book rambles and jerks from scene to scene, taking you to different losses of children from around the world and throughout time. It actually made me more sad. The foreword by Rabbi Harold Kushner was more helpful. I would not recommend this book to the newly bereaved parent.

To say "I LOVE THIS BOOK", is an understatement. I bought "I will not die a unlived life" in the early 2000's and never read it. It sat on a bookshelf and then ended up with a handful of book I took with me when I moved away. It's amazing how the Universe works. The book kept falling out of wherever It was I stuck it, I don't know how many times it did this before I caught on. I read the Poem "Living Wide Open: Landscapes of the Mind" and I was hooked. I felt like a Phoenix, I was dying off, but I was ready to be re-born and this book started that process.
I was on a Spiritual Quest, I just didn't know it yet, Dawna jump started this process. From the first page I was captivated and have read it at least 7 times I know of. Each time using a different colored pen or marker to underline new passages I need or like, my book is so worn it's falling apart. If you feel there is something you just can't put your finger on BUY THIS BOOK, it will lead you to what it is your missing.
Thank you Dawna, you changed my life FOREVER

I truly believe that this book should include a disclaimer: if the reader dares to enter the pages of Ms. Markova's book,it could forever alter the way one lives their life.
At a certain level, I see I WILL NOT DIE AN UNLIVED LIFE as an important treatice for women at a demarcation point in their spiritual journies. I hesitate to call it a "chick book," although I do believe it will appeal to more women than men. I, however, am a man that was drawn by the title and then mesmerized by the content. Ms. Markova gifts her readers with a stunning and intimate look inside her beautiful Soul, and she never winces when we can't help but but stare right back. The book has quite simply yet irrevocably changed my life. It relentlessly yet tenderly asked questions of me that I had been too afraid to ask myself. She invites a deep and thorough inner exploration, and she artfully demonstrates the journey by revealing the profound depths of her own inner quest.
The look inside of the author is at once breathtaking and life giving. She not only shares of her own inner landscape, but I came away with not only a knowing but also a love for her family and her day-to-day life experiences. The rawness of certain passages left me in tears. Her candor and courage are nothing short of spectacular.
This book is a must read for anyone who suspects that that they are living a life too small for who they are at depth. There is no longer any reason to die an unlived or an unloved life. This pioneer of human heart-intelligence has led the way through an inquiry that will lead to a fullness of passionate purpose that leaves one transfixed and transformed. I have and will continue to give this book to people I love enough to want to shake them from the rafters of habitual mediocrity. Buy the book- and then enter courageously. You have nothing to lose except a false sense of self.

As a communication and relationship educator, I am familiar with the importance of having effective communication skills in our relationships. Susan Page has opened the door to a whole new perspective of how to make changes in your relationships when communication skills are not effective and often make the problems worse. Susan reminds us of the importance of our own actions and taking responsibility for our own behaviors and how simple experiments can be life changing for us. I highly recommend this book to my clients and to my colleagues in the mental health field.

I like the way the book is laid out and written. It's easy to follow and the exercises are easy to practice on your own. I read half of it in one sitting without even trying to.
I came across this book while looking for books on divorce in the library. I wish I would have found this before my spouse left me. We both are guilty of "stage 2" and not balancing our lives. I've tried a few of these on my own before but the results didn't stick. I wasn't aware of the depth to the concepts.
This should be a gift to every newlywed couple.

Why Talking Is Not Enough: 8 Loving Actions That Will Transform Your Marriage by Susan Page is one of those books that flies against the conventional advice that's often given when it comes to marriage counseling. But after you get over the "but that can't be right" feeling, there's a lot to be said for her approach.

Content:
Part 1 - What Is Spiritual Partnership?: Introducing Spiritual Partnership; Loving Action 1 - Adopt a Spirit of Good Will; LA 2 - Give Up Problem Solving; LA 3 - Act as If; LA 4 - Practice Restraint; LA 5 - Balance Giving and Taking; LA 6 - Act on Your Own; LA 7 - Practice Acceptance; LA 8 - Practice Compassion
Part 2 - Putting Spiritual Partnership to Work in Your Relationship: Exactly How to Use the Eight Loving Actions; Frequently Asked Questions; Communication Within Spiritual Partnership; Making Mature Judgments
Part 3 - Spiritual Partnership in a Broader Context: Defining the "Spiritual" in Spiritual Partnership; The Future of Spiritual Partnership
References and Further Reading; About the Author

Most self-help books related to marriage dwell on communication... the give and take of negotiation. Page contends that the approach is more adversarial in nature, and basically tries to change something you have no control over: the other person. Instead, she suggests that taking responsibility for yourself and your own actions is much more effective in the long run, as you *can* control yourself. The actions are centered around what's referred to as a "spiritual practice", or the act of looking at your day-to-day interactions as an exercise of your spiritual nature. If you are focusing on making yourself into the best person you can be, then changes in the other person will also flow. These actions, also called experiments, are designed to help you learn what works and what doesn't in your relationship. If you try something and it doesn't work, that's good as you've learned something you didn't know before. It's a different approach to what you normally think of as marriage or relationship counseling, but I can see where it would have benefits over the standard "talk it out" approach.

Where I tend to have issues is with the focus on "if it's authentic for you, it's right" ethic. In this book, she feels that learning you're not right for your mate and splitting is as good an outcome as becoming closer. If you feel that there *are* moral and ethical absolutes, then some of the underlying foundations of what's in here won't resonate with you. Still, looking at the actions and the mindset of "change yourself before trying to change others" has some real value. I've personally always felt that trying to elicit change in others to suit your own self is chancy at best, and futile in most cases...

Definitely worth a read and consideration if the "I gave up something, now why won't they do the same" path isn't working for you...

I've been a marriage counselor and educator for 25 years; after reading this book I'll never "do" relationship counseling the same again. Susan Page offers us an entirely new paradigm for relationship counseling. Her 'spiritual partnership' concept and approach is revolutionary. Some might blithly think Page naive, but they need to look more deeply into the profound implicaitons of her ideas. Let's face it, marriage counseling has been a dismal failure; as Page points out so well, we, as marriage counselors have worshiped at the dual alters of 1) problem resolution, and 2) communication skills. This is the central issue of my frustration with marriage counseling, I sometimes feel that I'm just teaching couples to talk more clearly about their problems ... the problems only come into clearer focus for them. This isn't solving problems, it's exacerbating them! It simply hasn't worked. Page's new and refreshing approach turns the entire enterprise of counseling around so we all can step back, see the situation more objectively, and take action, not just talk. Anyone who spends any time in their counseling practice with couples needs to read this book, and to recommend this book to their clients.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Having worked with many couples over the past 35 years I feel I can echo the testimonials Susan has received from some very prominent and thoughtful people--this is a really good book, one I would recommend--and I don't recommend books often or casually. What impressed me the most was that if people actually follow these suggestions, I know their relationship will really improve. How often can that be said? I have recognized over the years, as clearly Susan have also, that much of what doesn't work in relationships has to do with ignorance rather than ill intent. If a person has been raised in an unloving family, then that person simply does not know what actual loving actions are. This book provides that information in such a clear and digestible way; it really provides an important and useful service.

I find the stratagies very helpful and even if you are good at marketing, this book will help to refresh those old tips you may have forgotten ,I highly recommend this one.

I found the book contained a great many ideas. Not all of them were useful for the service I was marketing, but enough of them were to make the price of the book acceptable. Some ideas (such as carrying your business cards with you and leaving them with everyone you come into contact with-even when paying bills at restaurants) seemed simple but were very effective in practice. I am new to marketing and I found that from the simple to the more complex means of putting your service out there this book is useful and allows the user to accelerate his or her marketing.

Brimming with basic, common sense marketing tips, this book should prove helpful for anyone starting out in business. Even experienced business people may find plenty of useful suggestions among the many that this book offers.

However, readers should use caution when applying some of the book's negotiating suggestions, as a tough, adversarial approach to vendor relations can sometimes backfire. For example, a retailer who demands exclusive rights to a product line without offering any commitment in return, might lose the product line altogether to a competing retailer who wins over the vendor with a greater show of enthusiasm.

Readers should also be very careful about following the book's advice to make it difficult for customers to remove themselves from email lists. Today's advertising-beleaguered customers are best retained through attraction. Causing them to feel annoyed, frustrated, or trapped will only earn their resentment.

But there are no more than a handful of controversial tips among the innumerable others that offer considerable benefit to small business operators. The sections on closing sales, Internet marketing, and trade-show presentation are alone worth the purchase price of the book. As a handy reference that will be consulted often by small business entrepreneurs, this book offers great value.

This book totally had me hooked, as it opened up whole new ways of thinking and looking at the world and the morals of our society. Shad does a great job of proving how the current ways do not work, and that change is necessary in order for our race to spiritually evolve. I eagerly await the arrival of the rest of the books in the series.

I don't know whether Will Shad was aware of Neale Donald Walsh's books at the time he wrote this, but in either case, one has to admire his guts....either he was taking after one of the most popular book series ever written, or he was writing his most private talks with God down, not knowing if anyone had done it before.
Most of the critics of this book seem to be those who have read Walsh's series, and apparently are expecting the same 'voice' of God as in those books, both in style and content (In which case they'd accuse Shad of copying Walsch). Then, they read this book, with an even more liberal 'God', and even more wordplay, and are angry that it is not the voice they are familiar with. Personally, I see this as the next step in the evolution of this type of writing, as Shad covers some of the same ideas, as well as many new ones, and does so using his own personal style. Once you accept that Shad places as much importance on the wordplay as on the content, you can enjoy it much more, and become immersed in this world he has created, where everything makes sense, if only we can forget about we have learned in the past. Even our very language can display these truths, as Shad shows time and again. Those that say his word tricks are excessive seem to forget that one of his main points is that truths are hidden in the english language. I find these tricks, as almost all of this book, very entertaining and informative. Can't wait for his next book!

Don't get me wrong, I liked Walsch's book, but when I read it I couldn't help but think that there was something missing..an edge perhaps, or a connection with younger readers. After reading this book, it became obvious that Walsch, as a filter of god's word, was a middle aged man, editing and sanitizing God's words to try and offend as few people as possible, and ultimately to sell more books. Shad's God, on the other hand, while covering much the same ground, seems fresher, more honest, and less caring about selling more copies, as opposed to just telling the truth about our world. 'This is how it is', Shad says, 'agree with it or not, but if youre going to disagree, do so logically, and don't just say it's crazy or evil without backing it up'. And I must admit, to disagree with Shad using rational arguments is very very difficult, even in his most controversial statements, such as the US government being the main source of 'evil' (in the sense that it hinders our progress more than any other single force ever has) in the world, and the fact that the only true 'love' is for all people, equally, (thus in a sense calling marriage also 'evil', at least the way we practice it). Opinions such as this are what make Shad superior to Walsch, whose God sems to hold back a little too much in his observations of how humans have decided to run the world so far. That may be Ok to older people, who tend to be more submissive to authority, and less open minded. But for younger, more open minded people, Shad's book is far superior.

With books of this type, there is a tendency for reviewers to judge the merit of the book itself on whether they actually agree or disagree with the author's beliefs r opinions rather than the quality of the work. Myself, I see whether the arguments are made convincingly, and how entertaining the writer actually is, whether I agree with what he says or not. Sure, some of Will Shad's ideas are a little different than what we have come to expect, more liberal than what most religious folks want to hear, but that doesn't mean that he is a bad writer, or that the book doesn't have value. I found myself entertained by the wordplay, even amazed at times...apparently this type of style is something that you either 'get', and are astounded by it, or you think is just plain annoying. I found it incredible that almost every one of Mr. Shad's points,no matter how different, could be backed up not only logically, but using our very language to show it. For a man in his early 20s at the time, the book shows spiritual insight ar bayond his years. If we just forget all we have learned about whats 'right' and 'wrong', and listen to his arguments with an open mind, then we see it is not the 'devil' talking, but someone who is very rational and loving. God, perhaps?

Most of the reviews for this book (8 of the 13 at the time I read them) were written by "A Reader" from undisclosed location, spanning review dates from late 1998 to mid 1999. High star rating from the many postings of "A Reader." Suspect the reviews have been padded.

I bought this book based upon Amazon reader reviews. There was little advice that was other than common sense, and much that was silly at best (for example bring water from your old home). The major points could be summed up: have an open mind, be flexible, bring old things so you are comfortable, and find ways to join and meet new people. There you have it. Save your money.

Leslie reaches deep into the heart and provides us with a most valuable resource to acclimate ourselves and our families to a new environment. Her tried and true tips for success in any community obviously speak from experience. Leslie's cup is overflowing with wisdom that she shares so readily with us in this book. I was also privileged to see her on the ERA tour!

"Having moved across town and across the country on nine (9) occasions from Rochester, NY to all parts of CA, back to Rochester, NY and now to Columbia, MD, I can assure readers that this book offers an island of calm in the "ocean's roar" of the moving experience. Leslie's writing reflects a diverse group of movers who's life experiences pave the way for a more peaceful transition from a loved home to a new house and community. Too often, "movers" are caught up in the process of moving and forget moving is only the first part of uprooting your life and beginning anew. The hardest part is not the move but rather the new beginning. Having a resource that encompasses all parts of your life experience is invaluable. Thanks Leslie!
