The Author Never Gave Up! - A GREAT TRUE LIFE STORY!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-03
"I Will Never Give Up" is an autobiographical book by Derek W. Clark that more than lived up to this reviewer's expectations. I had expected an interesting memoir about a man I know to be a great singer and songwriter but it delivers more than just an astonishing account of the author's life. He also shares the lessons and insights that his life experiences have taught him. This book is truly inspiring on several levels.

The author could have turned his book into a hard-core tale of abuse and added the normal hurtful mutterings of blame by another victim of child abuse. However, he chooses to take the reader on a more inspirational journey. He shares some of positive attributes learned from his younger years of survival in a sensitive look back at a brutal past.

The emotional energy of this book is amazing stuff. It will cause the reader to experience great emotional lows and highs as we follow the neglect and abuse of a young man and his eventual rise above the past traumas to a place of true forgiveness. The book cannot help but touch some part of you in the process.

The book's power comes into focus as you see the author beginning to fight back for control of his life. He questions the very basic concepts of life itself including the role of the church, parents, and even God. The author does not force his personal life views on you and he doesn't worry about being politically correct either with the views expressed. The book comes across as an honest and authentic attempt to share one man's life experiences and why he is who he is today.

If you have ever been or know of someone who was a foster child this might be a great gift to give him or her. They might find a good role model for their own lives. This book will give them hope for their own journey.

The American Authors Association (AAA) gives this book its highest book rating of FIVE STARS! This book also gets my personal endorsement!

AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN CAN HEAL
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-10
This book is long overdue, for years the sexual abuse of African-American women and girls has been largely ignored by white and black communities. Sexual abuse and racism go hand-in-hand, yet myths persist that sexually abused African-American women and girls are traitors to black men and boys if they refuse to accept black male sexual abuse is acceptable, because black males experience racism. Sexual abuse is not separate from racism it is interlinked and this book shows African-American women and girls how they can seek help and heal from the devasation of sexual abuse. It is about African-American women and girls who refuse to be victims but are survivors. A must read for all who are involved in challenging male sexual violence perpetrated upon women and girls of all ethnicities and cultures.

Intimacy is the key

Review Date: 2000-07-01
Too many couples in our society today head for divorce court, not knowing that there are resolutions to most relationship difficulties. Sex tends to play a big role in an unhappy coupleship, along with a lack of communication and an inability to know how to have a healthy disagreement. I wrote this book after working with thousands of couples suffering from such difficulties. My husband, a psychologist, and I always see couples, as a couple. In doing this we are able to provide a balanced theraputic setting. Such safty has allowed for indepth discussion of issues rotating around sex, love, money, kids and even inlaws. Included in this book is a workbook section, which a couple can use to look at their own relationship issues. Relationship break up should always be a last resort.

I'm sure this will be a great book, but I just wish the publisher would be clear as to when it will actually be published. Because they are so unclear, I am able to write a review for a book that won't be available until next year. Well, that's what the website says maybe that's a mistake. Obviously I change this review once I actually review the book.

A friend of mine gave me this book and I wasn't sure what to expect. It's not very long, a little over 100 pages and I didn't know what it was going to be about. The book is really an insight into one women's struggle with truly feeling beautiful. And through the process of reading the book, you being to understand your own barriers for feeling beautiful. The book was incredibly powerful and left me feeling refreshed and strong against the garbage that the world throws at you. I read it in just a few days. I highly recommend it to all women.

Trust me on this: if you care about books, this is one you absolutely must read. Elizabeth Young has a stupendous prose style, a sinuous & interesting taste and a way of hooking you from page 1. I only heard about this because someone I know at Serpent's Tail gave me a copy, but it's a crime this book isn't better known in the USA. I am about to buy several copies so that I can give them away & make some converts.

Great book-so far! If you read self help books, it's a must!
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2000-07-10
I've only read about 120 pages so far, but this is one book I have a hard time putting down. As with most books I've read which were written around this time, Power of Will uses a lot of theatrics. I assume writers wrote in a much more descriptive fashion before the days of modern media. The first chapter seemed a little deep, but as I read on it seemed easier to assimilate. I can't tell you exactly why, but old books such as this seem to draw me in. The point of the book is: By gaining self-discipline (will-power) anything we want to accomplish will be much more possible and probable. I would compare this book with Law of Success (Napoleon Hill), Pushing to the Front (Orrison Swett Marden)and, The Master Key System (Charles F. Haanel). As I've said, read this book!

If you have ever pondered the mysteries of life and sought answers to the riddles of existence then this is a book for you. In a very unique and direct approach Anton Vetroff has put together a remarkable work.
It is both concise and frank, offering the reader a different view of life than traditional schools of thought. Very much a non-dual approach, it is a book that captivates and engages one, leaving a sense of wonder and, (personally) a certain sense of gratitude.
Some of the concepts may seem challenging to the uninitiated in this field, yet there is nothing within these pages that is anything less than clear, comprehensible and frank, having been written with care, humour and touching sincerity.
Covering concepts as wide ranging as the nature of matter itself to mundane issues of everyday life, offering methods and exercises to enhance one's daily experience, all are handled with expert simpicity.
To add further to the enjoyment of this most delightful volume are the illustrations that introduce each chapter which are simply breathtaking - a remarkable package!
I highly recommend this as the book of books for all seekers and non-seekers alike. Enjoy!
