Dr. Russell writes in a way that, to be consistent, one would have to become a 7th Day Adventist. He takes extinct Old Testament references regarding what Jews were supposed to eat and what they weren't supposed to eat, and acts as if they compose God's universal, timeless law. Poor exegesis. If he stuck to the scientific pros and cons of food I would have received him better (even though much of his data is controversial/speculative). There have to be better written books out there (I know Richard Foster does a much more thorough analysis of health and fasting).

Very good book!

The title of the book really says it all. God created us and gave us specific instructions on what to eat. We would be wise to follow them. I've given copies of this book to my whole family.

I have found this book to be very insightful about my eating habits. Putting biblical boundaries around my eating choices actually gives me the freedom I've been needing to say no to all types of junk food. It has also helped me learn to trust God's guideance in other areas of life. God knows His creation and wants the best for us.

This is the best book I have read with clear, easy to follow advice that will show you Bible references for all of it's tips. It has a page of foods with Bible verses to look up where the food is eaten. There are references for the unhealthy foods, too. If you want a straight forward book without a lot of the authors own "reasons why", you will be very happy. You will come away with the answers you were seeking.

Ms. Monahan is gifting us all with her brillance. With her easy style she outlines five acts of improvement to challenge us and direct us to our greater good. She is like a "kinder-gentler" personal trainer, however, she helps us develop our most important attribute - integrity. Required reading for anyone interested in real self improvment

While attending a series of seminars led by Marta Monahan I saw her commitment to continuous improvement for herself and her students. As a result of her work I experienced a leap in my progress in both my professional and personal life. In her book "The Courage to be Brilliant" Marta presents ways to bring out your brilliance--five daily acts. The book is written in a straightforward manner and filled with wonderful examples. I found it deeply thoughtful and insightful. I was inspired by it and have been working on my five daily acts. They work! I've sold two books and have two publishers interested in others. I highly recommend this book.

Marta Monahan's "The Courage to Be Brilliant" tells you how, you too, can have the courage to take hold of your life, break out of mediocrity, and reach out to be the very best you can be, brilliant, through her "Five Acts of Improvement a Day".
Everyone should read her book and apply her "Five Acts of Improvement" so they too can be brilliant and shine.

I've spent the last few days reading The Courage To Be Brilliant with great enjoyment. Having met Marta Monahan on a couple of occasions, I have seen her own brilliance, which shines from both her inner and outer beauty, so I know that she is practicing what she preaches.

As I began reading, I thought that this was probably going to be just another self-help book, but almost immediately I found myself making mental lists of the people I knew who would benefit from it. I loved all the anecdotes, the success stories of Marta's students, and was impressed by the great detail to which she goes to lay a foundation for her theories. It was quite surprising to see how long was the list of areas of life to which the Five Acts of Improvements could be applied, and all the practical suggestions for application. In fact, I truly believe there is something for everyone in this book.

I have read many books that reveal the essential truths. This book, however has both a simplcity and a new insight that has not only provided me with new insights, it works when placed into action. It does not require years of learning, rather you can begin to experience a change imeediately.

If the process of manifestation suggested in this book were to be sincerely followed, you can manifest your own reality.

As someone who has read innumerable 'secret of success ' books , I hold very high regard for this book because I have had
practical demonstrations of its truths.

The one point that the master does not dwell upon is while visualizing the desired situation , one has to pour deep feelings
of joy and gratitude to 'Infinite Intelligence' , 'Intelligent substance ' or God according to your predisposition.

If the appropriate visual blends with your thoughts and feelings and if you can sustain the mental image along with the
thoughts and feelings about the desired manifestation you will see that what was once in your consciousness is now in your
surroundings ( 'As it is within , so it is without ').

I want to quote Swami Vivekananda here -- " Imagination properly employed is our greatest friend ; it goes beyond reason and
is the only light that takes us everywhere ".

It is natural to be skeptical about these topics, but all a person needs is one specific ( be very specific ) manifestation.

I also suggest you to read " The Way Out " by Anonymous , " Door of Everything " by Ruby Nelson , " It Works " by RHJ. Proper
study of these books will help you gain deeper understanding and help you manifest your own reality.

Truth is way stranger than fiction. Have patience and strong will to manifest.

You can create your own miracles.

Good luck.

If you like "The Secret", you will love this book. It is very small and deceivingly very simple but I found it very profound. I couldn't find anything about the author which intriqued me. There seems to be alot of books out like this really talking about the same "Laws of Attraction", with a different way of presenting the material. This book struck a chord with me.

Review Date: 2008-04-06
I like this book. I mean it. It's motivational and thought provoking. Then why do I just rate it a four star? It's because I think this book can be better, with less stories of losers/clients anonymous, and more management/marketing/critical thinking tools and techniques for the target readers/buyers' consideration, or simply more tools and techniques. Anyway, the book is a good beginning, but far from an end for business owners who seek for help or improvement. Certainly, there's no holy grail for running a business, big or small, but relentless effort for improvement day by day.

p.s. Below please find some of my favorite messages for your reference.

"I'll open this place and see what happens." That's an intention, of sorts, but it is not enough. You have to want to succeed. If you want to badly enough, you'll always find the how to. And once you've got your want to tuned up and ready to operate, outside forces (such as the economy) wont be an issue. pg 20

Throwing more money into the business does not save it. In fact, it makes things worse. Money may postpone the collapse, but it will also deepen the collapse. Think of giving a heroin addict a large dose of heroin as he or she passes through the final stages ofa painful detox. pg 41

The purpose of advertising is not to build awareness or increase your name ID. The purpose of your advertising is to create a sale!.....Advertising is salesmanship in print! pg 55-6

All purchases are emotional, anyway, although your customer may put up a good show of talking price with you......And please dont have this be your slogan: "The best quality, the best service, the best prices!" pg 98

Your greatest asset is your mental energy.....If you put your mental energy into worry and doubt and fighting fires all day, then you will get more and more fires. If....into understanding your customer, then you will get more and more customers. pg 124

"The Customer's Always Right." That's a huge lie...downright dangerous to you.... the boost in morale if you have employees or partners or coworkers, and they witness that you have declined the business of a customer because that customer just does not treat people correctly, and you will not subject your employees to it. pg138

Rather than focusing on yourself and whether you've got what it takes to succeed, you want to focus on what it takes to succeed, you want to focus on the result you want. It's a matter of priorities. You have to put the success of your business ahead of false pride. You have to put the success of your business ahead of whether you might lose face or look weak. pg 143

I know, I know; you are downtrodden and are frustrated with your business. You try everything, lowering your prices, advertising and nothing seems to work. I tell you, I'm in that same spot, but I am climbing out of that hole and I'm going to make a difference thanks to this book.

I was wandering aimlessly through a bookstore, a bit down about my failing business. I randomly came across this book, "9 Lies...". Since I like to know the truth, I figured knowing what the lies are would be helpful to me.

Boy, was I right.

I sat down in the store and read the first chapter. I was completely humiliated and deeply offended by the first chapter: "I just need to know how to do this." I thought, honestly, that it was right on, that it wasn't a lie. Steve and Sam basically tell you, point blank, that it isn't that simple. It's not about the "how". It is about the "want". We as small business owners have to be OWNERS. We have to WANT to make it succeed. That means putting aside any ego or pride and putting our greatest talents forward.

I left the book at the store, to punish it of course, for offending me. As I mulled it over, I knew it was right. I also knew these crazy authors might be able to help me. It was worth a try; what I had been doing up to that point wasn't working.

This book is worth every penny. You will be embarrassed reading it, but do not worry, so were all of us brave enough to read it. I truly believe if we apply these techniques to our businesses, there is no stopping us. But, you have to do everything DIFFERENTLY. Probably everything you've learned? Unlearn it. NOW. I'm already seeing a difference in my business and I just did a few changes. I need to give this 150% and see what happens. You do too. We all deserve to have successful, thriving businesses.

Thanks Steve and Sam.

I heard this author on a financial radio talk show (Bob Brinker) and the few things he had to say were interesting, to the point and powerful enough to make me buy the book. Should have quit with the talk show. If this guy is still building a new and successful business with flyers and Magic Marker posters he should read a little Ries & Trout or Seth Goodin (Purple Cow). We ARE in the 21st Century. We have the internet along with carefully focused radio and myriad other ways to reach people and mold thinking. There was nothing in the book that was not merely a stone cold rehash of old, old thinking. I was very disapointed. B. McDonald

Globalization is quickening and will continue to have an increasing impact on your professional career. With globalization there will never be a shortage of Talent. Having the best talents and proven capabilities is not enough anymore. As the author puts it, we need to become "Talent-plus" person. If you do, you will add value to yourself, add value to others and accomplish more than you dreamed was possible.

This is an excellent book that can be applied in the real world. As an IT Project Manager, I was able to apply the learnings from the section on Teamwork to inspire my project team.

Other books on the same subject seemed very philosophical "common sense" with no practical actionable take aways. This book, however, explains things in very analytical format with examples that I could relate to, both personally & professionally. Recommended!

The best way one can prevent themselves from becoming a burden on their families as they age is making sure the money they saved for their retirement stays saved for retirement and is only used for that purpose. "Alive and Kicking: Legal Advice... for Boomers!" grants legal advice so you can keep your money so when you finally do go and kick that bucket, your family has something other than massive debts to remember you by. Tips on Living wills, scams and identity theft, caring for your own parents in your own advanced age, issues involving age discrimination, driving, sex, and more are covered. While treating itself as a law book first, "Alive and Kicking: Legal Advice... for Boomers!" isn't afraid to crack a joke or bust out a poem now and again, giving a different and attractive flavor, making it highly recommended for anyone who is rapidly approaching retirement age and wants to be prepared for it in the modern world. Also recommended to community library law shelves.

What I liked about the book is the vast amount of useful information on all areas of planning for ones over age 50 years. And its a book that my son who is under age forty, found interesting, because it discusses issues that many people may never have thought about. It also is a book that dispells the notion that becoming sixty or older, means getting 'old' and unable to do many of the things we love doing in our forties or fifties. Cannot recommend the book enough.

I've been using energy tapping for several years. I went through two of Gary Craig's courses, then began buying books on the subject for further (and different) information. Gloria Arenson's book is simply the best. The reviews here cover most of what I was going to say, so I'll just add a paragraph.

First, the author lays eveything out in a clear, friendly, useful way. Second, she gives helpful examples instead of miraculous case histories. Third, she makes difficult exercises palatable. For instance, I have a hard time sincerely declaring forgiveness for childhood abuse; it never feels honest. But Gloria Arenson, in this neat little book, gives the option of saying something like "My happiness and well-being are no longer dependent on my mother's approval," which is much easier for me to say than "I understand my mother did the best she could with what she knew, so I forgive her."

Little things like this make Five Simple Steps unique. If you're interested in energy tapping, buy it! I ordered a copy for my husband so we can each brightline our own favorite information.

After reading this book I finally feel confident enough to use EFT, or "Meridian Therapy" as the author prefers to call it, by myself! The book lays out the process in a very clear, concise and friendly manner. This is accomplished in the first 50 or so pages. (For instance, the locations of the tapping points are shown more clearly than I've seen anywhere else.)

The rest of the book provides more in-depth examples and case studies, to assist in making it even more easy to understand the process.

This book gives you more than the method; it also boosts your self-confidence so you more easily get started on the journey. Very strongly recommended!

Serious about healing and spiritual awakening that is. This book/series is NOT for the faint-hearted. It is not an easy read, even though you look at the first book and think wow it's so small I'll blaze right through it. You won't. This book, unless you are some kind of alien who has no emotional center at all, will trigger emotions you didn't even know you had. This book will rock you to your very core, because of the Eternal Truths contained within. You will become frustrated, angry, go into fits of uncontrolled sobbing, disbelief, and ultimately...you will come to understanding, acceptance, truth, and HOPE. If you have a deep, underlying sense of..."something isn't quite right with the world, but I don't know what it is or where it originated" these books tell you exactly what "it" is and why it happened. That spiritual itch that you just can't seem to scratch enough to go away will be relieved. However, it will not be comfortable when you first hear it (or rather, are reminded of it...because you already know it inside). Once you read these books, you will never be the same...

I don't think this book should be bought or sold on-line because it is absolutely imperative that the introduction be read and felt through before committing to reading this book. If you go through the effort to buy it on-line, chances are, you will think you should read it no matter what you feel, "I bought it, after all.. I might as well read it." This is not your typical channeled spirituality book and it is not on the same level of Conversations with God. I'm actually disappointed to see it on-line because most people who have read it will tell you, it is not a book for the masses. Don't buy this book until you know you are already ready to read it.. by reading the introduction and giving yourself space to really feel into it. I first read this book 10 years ago.. this is the perspective from which I speak. I don't recommend this book but it has changed my life.

What I loved about this book is that she condenses all the latest, greatest research into one little book. I refer to many of the techniques she has in her book over and over again.

I just finished reading this little book and I have to say I was so completely surprised. It was a fun read with so much wisdom and practical information. I found myself underlining and highlighting because there were so many great gems in this book. Anyone trying to change a habit, start a new one, or just to get inspired, I highly recommend this book. M.J. Ryan is an excellent writer who writes as if she is talking with and old friend, plus she refers to other great authors and tells the stories of others lives that add to the strength of this small but mighty book.

I found what I was looking for in HIGHWAY FROM HELL. Moonstone Star White was able to express what I knew to be true, but was unable to express until I read her book. It changed how I thought about emotions and feelings.

Moonstone Star White has given us, the readers, a great tool to help us live our life to the fullest by using our own skills and empowerment. She challenges each of us to dig deep within ourselves and pull out all we have to make those needed changes.

Initially when the reader started this book, she was not impressed. It seemed to me to be another book that was so technical, so full of philosophies that she did not want to continue reading. However, once the reader kept an open mind and took her time to read it became more clear the author's intentions.

The information on life isn't always going to be fair, and life is what you make it really makes the reader stop and think. Why should we go through life blaming others for what went wrong in our life? We and only we have the power to turn those negatives into positives. So what is stopping us? As the author says "you have to work at it." And in this fast-paced world where we want everything now-- we don't want to work.

Through "High Way From Hell" we are able to learn to go with our feelings, examine our everyday lives and learn to become the "living." A great read.

Her poignant portrayal of her own personal journey towards self awareness and spiritual development will leave the reader with a profound desire to explore their own reality and discover how it is colored by judgments and past conditioning behaviors. There is hope for all who dare delve into the inner depths of self and "High Way from Hell" will help guide the way!

Like many self-help books I've read, this books talks about being in the now, the law of attraction, releasing yourself from judgment, and being in touch with your feelings. However, this book gave me the exercises I needed to dig deep into my subconscious and pull out all the guck and ickiness that was buried. My body literally went into shock and I was in bed sick for three days while I was reading this book. To me that was a sign that the book was helping me heal all those negative emotions that I had suppressed for so many years - feelings I thought I had gotten rid of.

The big takeaway from this book is that the path to enlightenment begins with you and Moonstone Star White has an uncanny way of guiding you to the real you.

Reading "High Way From Hell" is a gift to your soul, a powerful message and a practical approach to jump start your life in a great direction! With her insightful and refreshing style, Moonstone Star White's message definitely appeals to many different age groups, offering nourishing ideas that give us permission to experience the inner peace that is our birthright. This book offers a variety of meaningful ways to enrich our lives, our souls and our minds! The message is not entirely new - it echoes the spiritual wisdom passed down from many ancient traditions, both Eastern and Western. Yet the clarity with which she conveys intangible and difficult-to-describe concepts IS new!

"High Way From Hell" is more than food for thought. It is a feast for hungry souls. I was thunderstruck by the power and simplicity of the realizations I had while reading it. I wholeheartedly encourage anyone who is on any kind of journey toward personal growth and spiritual expansion to pick up this book and prepare to become a more authentic version of yourself than you ever thought possible.
