I've been reading Dean Koontz books for about 20 years now. My favorite is Watchers everyone should give this one a try if you've never read one of his books. Whispers keeps you guessing throughout! And Shattered also will not disappoint. Infact none of his books will bore you, they are all page turners.

Some of his best ever!!

Although, I have these novels in paperback, it's nice to have them as a collection. Shattered was an earlier road chase story which I think Mr. Koontz, as he matured, turned into Intensity.
Watchers was the first Koontz novel I read and is still my all-time favorite. The pairing of opposites, the lonely madianly woman with the quick-witted hereo, and the introduction of the golden retreiver, for me, was his break-through novel.
Too bad they have never redone Watchers and Whispers into quality films.
I think that Mr. Koontz could now at least bankroll part of the production and I for one would stand in line to see them.
I recommend this collection to those who don't know Koonz's work, you'll become hooked.
I also recommed a new religious conspiracy spy thriller Solomon's Key: the COIS Project. Like Koontz, R. Douglas Weber writes convincing, strong female leads.
SOLOMON'S KEY THE CODIS PROJECT: A CONSPIRACY THRILLER

Watchers and Whispers are two of Dean Koontz's best. Shattered isn't quite as good, but it's still a good read that will only take you a day or two to finish.

First of all, Watchers is a MUST read. I was skeptical that it could be *THAT* good, but it was. It's brilliant, unforgettable, and at times, a tear jerker. It's about a lonely, depressed man named Travis and a lonely, "homely" sheltered creepmouse of woman, Nora who are brought together by a super-intelligent golden retriever who's escaped from a government lab. Meanwhile, a vicious failed experiment of a creature has also escaped, intent on killing the dog, whom the couple adopt and name Einstein. It's when we learn WHY the creature wants to kill Einstein, when we learn MORE about this terrifying creature that makes our hearts break and the tears flow. Watchers features a truly sympathetic bad guy, and the character's development and progress (espescially Nora's) throughout the story are amazing to watch. There's also a sub-plot in the first half of the story with a psychotic cable guy stalking Nora. Wonderful book, rivaled only by the excellent Intensity as Koontz's best.

Whispers is also a fantastic book. An aquintance sneaks into a semi-famous screenwriter's house and tries to kill and violate her. She kills him, and one day he shows up at her house again, apparently having risen from the grave. Unfortunately, everyone, save for one police officer, thinks she's either mistaken, nuts, or lieing for attention. Eventually we learn that the villian is actually convinced that the female protagonist is his mother risen from the dead, in another body. Why does does he despise his mother so much? What are the nightmares about "whispers" that he has every night about? How could Bruno still be around when he's been killed? There is, of course, a budding romance between the officer and the female protagonist, and there's also a very *detailed* sex scene. One scene where the villian rapes and murders a young woman is very disturbing and somewhat graphic.

Shattered is the lesser of the three, but it's still a good book, and a nice, quick, simple read just like The Face Of Fear is. It's about a guy and his eleven year old brother who are driving across the country to meet his fiance Courtney. Unfortunately, Courtney's jealous ex just so happens to be trailing them, along for the ride, and determined to kill him. He tries to break into their hotel room one night and even wields an ax in one scene.

Overall, this is a great place to start when it comes to Dean Koontz. I'm currently reading my 16th Koontz book, and I highly recommend:

Intensity
Hideaway
The Door To December
Darkfall
Phantoms
Shadowfires
Dragon Tears
The Bad Place

Great illustrations, characters and an amazing setting make Tut, Tut (Time Warp Trio) a fabulous find for young readers. There's plenty of laughs here for parents as well in this very well written novel.

Join Joe, Fred, Sam and Anna (Joe's sister) as they travel back to ancient Egypt through a book that lands them in quite a situation. The problem is that they need that same book to get back home, and they lost it!

There's non-stop adventure and some wonderful history that may well encourage young readers to seek out more information about this period of Egyptian history.

Recommended!

Time-traveling is not as cool as you think. Being mummified, being trapped in a secret room and having your friend almost eaten by a crocodile is not cool. But what is cool is being treated as a royal guest in Thutmose III's palace, sailing in his boat and teaching him basketball. So, if you like things that are cool and not, you should read this hilariously funny book.

The book was about three boys and a girl who go to Egypt through a book that one of the boys uncles gave him. They have to travel through Egypt and find the book to get back home and meet a little challenge along the way named Hatsnat. I liked this book because we had just learned about Egypt so that made it better to understand.

When Gordon sent me the book, I was excited to dig into it, but life is busy, and I didn't get a chance to read it right away. I am sorry I delayed reading it as it is an excellent story. I couldn't put it down once started. Gordon's undying passion and perseverance in the recovery of these WWII relics is impressive. I thought that I have had some pretty crazy adventures moving aircraft around here in the United States, but they are nothing compared to the situations that Gordon and his group had to endure. It makes me very thankful to live in America. Warbird Recovery is a well written story that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone, even if you are not an aviation fanatic like me. Thanks Gordon!

This book is a narrative of tenacity, grit, adventure and very real danger. This book is for anyone that enjoys a concise and quality read, as it is informative on a variety of topics. Gordon Page crafts an intense tale of his quest for a WWII aircraft as an "Americanski" in various settings throughout Russia in the early 90's. The story is exceptionally well-written and fast-paced. No fluff here, and great descriptions of the horrid accomodations, delectible menu items and treacherous, exploitative and sinister characters Mother Russia offers up for Gordon and his companions to navigate throughout this quest. Gordon was one of the pioneers in military relic treasure-hunting in Russia. Lots of guys have done it since, but Gordon is very lucky to alive as he ran into all of the initial life-threatening obstacles, before the Russians realized the profit opportunities, and became receptive to Westerners looking to buy the remnants of war. Reads like a spy novel, meets travel guide. Excellent. Read this book!!

Gordon Page's Warbird Recovery is a book that once you pick it up, you will not put it down until you finish it. And finish it you will quickly as it is a true to life page turner. Fittingly I finished mine sitting in an airport waiting for my plane. Fortunately I didn't wait as long for my plane to arrive as Gordon and his team did waiting for their's. However, during my wait I got to enjoy Warbird and it made my wait fun and exciting - just like the book. Buy it, read it, enjoy it! I know I did.

As soon as you start reading the first page you will not be able to put this book down! It is an incredible story that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Gordon Page puts you right with him and you will ride the emotional roller coaster he endured throughout this adventure. Read this book and you will wonder why this story has not yet been made into a movie!

Engaging and entertaining

Review Date: 2007-09-02
I definitely knew nearly nothing about warbirds, or much about airplanes in general, when I picked up this book, but I walked away from it wishing I had a pilots license - a victim of Gordon Page's passion and determination having rubbed off through his recollections. The travel adventures of Page and his companions are sometimes funny, sometimes disturbing, but consistently entertaining, and the book is very easy to engage with, which makes it a quick page turner, as well as a quirky introduction into the passions of warbird enthusiasts.

I love travel. I love stories and gritty, difficult, joyful interactions with peculiar locales and cultures, and I cherish being able to sample those adventures through the stories of others. If you're like me, this travel memoir will get you excited. Sketchy helicopter rides, run-ins with the Russian mob, shady bribes organized by shady contacts, etc. - it's all there! And through all the action, you come out with a solid appreciation for the preservation and restoration of history as experienced through these important WWII warbirds.

A smart look at relationships
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-10-10
According to the author, there are 3 dimensions necessary for a successful relationship. They are:

1 -- the Practical dimension
This is about how well you live and work together.
Are you a morning person or a night person?
Do you want the air conditioner on or off?
Do you want to decorate in a minimalist modern style or a cluttered country style?
These may sound like petty, insignificant issues, but on a daily basis, if you and your partner are way off on this dimension, you could easily grate on each other's nerves.

2 - the Sexual dimension
This goes beyond sexual attraction to include sexual style.
Do you like quiet, missionary style sex or loud, try-every-position-imaginable sex?
Do you like sex once a day or once a month?
If you and your partner are way off on this dimension, then both of you will feel frustrated. The partner who wants less sex will feel like a spoilsport and the partner who wants more sex will feel like they are on a sex diet.

3 - the Wavelength dimension
This is about the meeting of the minds.
Are you for or against abortion?
Is your humor quietly witty or loud and raunchy?
Are you interested in politics and keeping up with current events or does that stuff bore you?
In an ideal world, we would all be able to kindly accept each other's differences in values and opinions. In reality, though, when someone disagrees with a value we hold dearly, we tend to think that person is naive, crazy, or stupid...and respect goes out the window.

According to the author, dissatisfied couples are couples who only have one or two of these dimensions present.
If the practical dimension is missing, then living and working together with this person on a daily basis will lead to constant bickering. If the sexual dimension is missing, then you will feel frustrated and bored with your sex life. If the wavelength dimension is missing, then you won't be able to relate to your partner on an intimate level.
If a couple has all three of these dimensions, then they have struck gold and will likely have a fulfilling marriage. That's not to say you and your partner have to be twins (some difference is healthy because it allows you to grow and makes the other person interesting) but just close enough so that the ratio of good times outweighs the bad times. I agree with the author's outlook and consider this book to be a smart look at relationships. Highly recommended.

This book helped me understand why I couldn't say yes to someone who seemed like the perfect spouse for me "on paper" and to most of my family and friends. It clearly lays out the most important aspects of compatibility and helped me realized that my little issues with my ex-boyfriend were actually significant problems that would have led to a less than harmonious problems. It also helped give me the confidence to walk away from the relationship even though most above mentioned family and friends couldn't understand why I would do so. A couple of years later I met someone who I am very compatible with and now we have two kids and a very happy marriage. I often recommend this book to single friends and all have benefited from reading the book. Definitely the best $15 I have ever spent!

The author presents a fairly straightforward theory of how he's seen compatibility relate to long term marital happiness and stability. He breaks it down to three areas: practical, sexual and wavelength. I've thought a lot in the past about the way I relate or don't relate in relationhships, but reading this book I had a number of "aha" moments where I felt like this makes real sense. I've discussed his ideas with a number of friends and the consensus is he's right on. The great thing is that after you read this I'll bet you'll feel compelled to talk about these ideas with friends and more importantly your lover. It's an easy, accessible read that I would see as invaluable to people looking for love or married for years.

I've read a lot of books on relationships, compatability and love. This book was the most practical, straightforward, realistic and helpful. What impressed me most about this title was the author's ability to simplify a very complex topic. He also considered dimensions of compatability that are often difficult to define, but that are crucial to forming a good long term relationship. The author also included deceptively simple exercises for couples that allowed them to access not only their thinking about a particular area of compatability, but more importantly their felt sense of it. In short, this book helps cut through confusion in the area of love. It is well worth the cost and it is quite different that most books of the same genre, which I have often found to be very similar to each other. It is clear that this author has many years of experience counseling real couples with difficult compatability issues. I also appreciated that the book did not include too many case studies or examples. I have found many case-study approach type books to read more like a novel than a helpful tool to work with a problem, perhaps this is a personal bias. In short, this book is a very useful tool for understanding an existing relationship or as a benchmark guide for dating compatability. It also achieves its goal without a lot of unnecessary text or redundant stories about other couples.

since I am just beginning to apply it to my current situation. But after reading it, I certainly see where some past relationships have gone wrong.

And the basic theory does make intuitive sense: Hamburg focuses on physical issues, practical compatibility (day-to-day teamwork) and what he calls "wavelength compatibility" (that is, broader ways of looking at the world, and similarity of opinions on big issues such as religion). As he points out, if your prospective mate flunks on all three criteria, further communication and hard work will only make it clearer that he or she is not a good match.

My only real quarrel with Hamburg so far is his suggestions about which issues couples must resolve before being married. For example, he thinks that a couple should decide before marriage whether to have a "traditional marriage" (i.e. one where the male earns most of the money) or a more egalitarian mrriage. I am not sure that one can know in advance how "traditional" one's marriage can be; presumably most reasonable couples would move towards a less traditional marriage if the spouses' earning power is roughly equal, but towards a more traditional marriage if one spouse's economic contribution turns out to be minimal.

This book is called Wrong Number 2 by R.L.Stine. I'm 11 years old in the 6th grade. I think people ages 11-13 would like this book. The book is about 3 kids going into a house looking for some money. But they find themselves downstairs in the basement. A man came in and lit a candle. Will they ever get out? I guess you will have to read the book to find out. I like scary stories. I liked the part when they were in the house in the basement. And when the man tried to run them over but they got away.

I loved the book Wrong Number#2. I am in the 6th grade and 11 years old. I think people ages 9-15 should read it. It is about two girls, Jade and Deena and these two boys Chuck and Farberson. Farberson got out of jail and went to go look for his hidden money. When he went to find it wasn't there. I love the book, it is a good book and at the end it is sad because someone dies. If you want to know how and who you will have to reed the book. And there is something scary. I did not like that part, you might. But the book was good. I hope you have fun with it.

I am in 7th grade when I read this book. This book was about 3 kids who get trapped in a killers world. Then after a year the killer got out of jail. One of the kids went back to find money the killer had hidden. Then the other two kids go to the killers house to go and get him but the killer is on his way. So, after they get there and get him they go to leave but the killer is standing in the doorway. I don't want to give too much away so read the book to find out what happens. I liked this book because it was a mystery and suspense book. That is what wrong number 2 is about.

The story I read was Wrong Number 2. It was about three teenag kids, Deena, Jade and Chuck. They had an enemy, Stanley Farberson. Farberson was a murderer and he killed his wife. Now he was put in jail and Deena and Jade are in school. Chuck is in college. One night Deena and Jade came home from school the phone rang Jade asked if she could answer it. Deena picked up the phone 'Hello' she said no reply. 'Hello' she said again. Then a low voice answered 'Is jade there' a man with a scary said. Then he hung up the phone. As soon as Jade walked in the room Deena said ' A man was looking for you' .'Then he hung up' Deena said. 'Oh well'. So all night Deena and Jade were talking about the basketball game they were going to on Friday. At one thirty a.m. Deena went up to here room and went straight to bed. At three a.m the phone rang 'Hello' Deena said. The same man called and he said 'I already called your friend'. This Review Was Written By Ashley Estrada

Can it really be Mr Farberson on the line? He has to still be locked up after trying to kill Jade and Deena last year. Maybe the calls are just someone's idea of a sick joke. But who else could possibly know the things the caller knows?

Then they realize that someone is nearby, watching them, close enough to know their every move. Someone who desperately wants revenge. Someone who wants to reach out... and kill them..

I just found this book, and after reading it wish I had found this years ago. This is the most comprehensive book on DB2 that I have ever seen. This book has already saved me a lot of time. The performance chapter is great and helped me improve the performance of my DB2 server by over 30% in less than a week.

Excellent book

This is the book I was waiting for long on DB2UDB. This not only covers topics for certifications but also good (very good) reference material for all UDB DBAs on LUW platform.

A student review of the Glaser's work

As an engineering student, good group and personal communication skills are essential for my success in the future. I recently attended a fantastic and educational two day seminar with the Glasers. Their expert skills as communicators not only makes their material fun to read, but offer outlines that are easy to follow for creating a successful presentation. Although these outlines are simple, they have a powerful affect on your communication skills if they are followed.

This summer I received my first research grant. To ensure that the funding I received is going to good use, I am required to give a presentation on my work every two weeks to a small group of students and the faculty adviser for the grant. My previous presentations had a complete lack of organization, excitement and professional delivery. After working with the Glasers and reading their material, I was able to design a new presentation that allowed me to express the passion I have for the subject.

It went tremendously better than my previous presentations this summer. A few people in the group had seen my previous talks. They said that I appeared very confident, well organized and passionate about the subject, a complete turn around from my other talks. The people who hadn't seen it before came up to me at the end and said that they couldn't imagine it any other way.

In short, this book can help anyone become a better speaker and group communicator. From students who are looking to improve their group communication skills, teams of workers who need to solve problems in a safe and open environment to individuals who have trouble facing conflict with their mentors, bosses and employees.

Thank you Glasers

Susan and Peter Glaser have made a fabulous contribution to creating trusting relationships. They have an excellent ability to simplify a complex process of creating trusting relationships. And if you have not seen them speak, make sure to do so. The book is a must read and their workshops are a must as well. I highly recommend.

Incredibly helpful. Very easy read- although this may be because it was well written and extremely interesting. I use it daily during interactions with strangers on the bus to family members. Makes communication feel like cheating because of the way I can easily express my ideas and needs to people around me. I'd recommend it to my friends and family members, but I'm afraid they'll learn my tricks:)

Thanks so much Drs. Glaser!!!

Despite the title, the book lays out fundamental principles of human interaction that draw from all areas of the field of communication. Crisp prose coupled with vivid examples that have the ring of realism. A useful book.

Not only is the Glasers' book Be Quiet and Be Heard a book that will benefit all who use their proven successful communication methods - it's a great read. The language and style present their cogent ideas with examples, with clarity and with humor. I believe you'll enjoy reading this book while learning strategies that give you new skills in communicating with those you may consider friend or foe. It's a terrific book!

I read this book when I was younger and I loved it, but then I lost it. I got it on amazon for a decent price, and read it again. It was a pretty quick read, but it is scarier when you are younger.

I read this book a few years back, and the only word I can use to describe it is, AMAZING!!!! This may be one of R.L. Stines best pieces of literary work yet. I started reading the first book at nine o'clock pm, and figured I would just finish the rest the next day, and then the second book the day after that, and so on and so forth. No, I stayed up the whole night reading all three books I was that captivated by it. I highly recommend this book, it's also a fun book to read to your siblings.

the best R. L. Stine saga ever!!!!!

I loved this book from 6 years ago i havent read it since but i know what its about. The Fier family and the Goode family have it in for each other and the mysterious murders don't even start there.. there are deep dark secrets from hundreds of years before that slowly become unraveled and also become regreted. This is the best Fear Street novel i've ever read and i dont mind reding it over & over.I just can't believe how so many spirits can take over an entire family's lives!!!!!The book is really creepy, & you can sometimes feel like you're there wanting to tell a person to do the right thing.I read it so long ago, & I remember faint details & names but i do recall the strong intensity of the book that didn't let me put it down for days until i finished. I was only eleven but i'm seventen now, and i really have to buy this book again!!!!!!!

Best ones!

I read this book when I was 13 and became totally enchanted by it. I lost the book, and ended up buying used for $20.00, but when I read it again, I was able to understand and totally wrap myself into it, and read faster than I did before. 19 years old and reading these books, cheap little thrills. I wouldn't reccomend this book to anyone younger than 13 because of the strong violence that occurs. Other than that, if you love the dark-side..read it.
