I found this book to be very practical and easy to read. I have been looking for a book to help me understand dental problems in general practice and this book taught me so much. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone needing to get started and build a firm foundation in veterinary dentistry. I especially loved the photos of actual procedures and the chapters on intraoral radiology and oral surgery. The section on oral surgical instruments and the source list in the back helped me find the right tools for the job.

This collection of essays clusters under the idea that the characteristic repetition one finds in American popular culture arrives by way of rituals of "imitation and initiation" in the lives of sexual outsiders [i.e., queers]. These essays are intelligent, provocative, even beautiful analyses of such 20th-century culture-makers as Henry James, Joseph Cornell, Andy Warhol, David Lynch, Kenneth Anger, Maria Montez, Jack Smith, and Vaslav Nijinsky. Each essay is chattily vernacular enough to allow the reader to forget that it's academic scholarship (good for your brain) and not just plain fun. Gossipy tidbits like Cornell's fondness for Kool-Aid and little girls enliven Moon's observations of the artist's memory-saturated work. The way Moon re-homosexualizes an apparently de-homosexualized text such as the film MIDNIGHT COWBOY should inspire a wholly new approach in gay and lesbian criticism. And I thought the treatment of Charles Ludlam's and Ethyl Eichelberger's theatre, largely ignored in academic circles up to now, a fitting climax to a thoroughly enjoyable and illuminating book. A SMALL BOY AND OTHERS deserves a wide and appreciative audience. It offers an elaboration of and a correction to current understandings of the role "camp" has played in shaping contemporary American culture.

This manual is setup like a workbook at some parts. It breaks down information, and you can write in the book's worksheets. It was very helpful in simplifying business terms and concepts for me. I wrote my draft business plan with this book and learned more about writing proposals. If you have a small business and want to know more, this is the book for you. Also, if you are looking to grow your company and find out about financing, it's a great resource as well.

Gilberto Conchas and Louie Rodriguez's SMALL SCHOOLS AND URBAN YOUTH: USING THE POWER OF SCHOOL CULTURE TO ENGAGE STUDENTS is an excellent survey of the cultural and structural features of small schools in two major urban cities. This narrowed focus allows for an analysis of school culture and student involvement on a macroscopic level, creating a fine sociological investigation suitable for both education and sociology libraries.

This is very well written and entertaining book, full of up-to-date, interesting information about penguins and penguin research. It thoroughly covers each penguin species, as well as providing general information about penguins. Although it is written in a question and answer format, the answers often lead to the next question so that it can be easily read cover to cover like any other book. It also has lots of great colour photos. At the end are some thought-provoking questions - what can we do to help penguins? I would highly recommend this book to any penguin or general nature lover.

In 1775 an Indian sachem (chief and medicine man), watching George Washington in battle, told his men to shoot down "yon tall and daring warrior...who hath an Indian's wisdom." Seeing that no harm could come to the American warrior, the sachem said to his men: "He cannot die in battle...The Great Spirit protects that man, and guides his destinies - he will become chief of nations, and a people yet unborn will hail him as father of a mighty empire."

This is only one of the interesting entries (under "George Washington Lore and Legend") in Smithsonian's "The American Revolution". This volume, which addresses all the key questions surrounding America's war for independence, is packed full of tremendously interesting information, stories, and illustrations (including portraits of many of the key leaders, photographs of Revolutionary War artifacts, and dozens of maps).

Smithsonian's "The American Revolution" is a handy and extremely useful question and answer book for anyone interested in the Revolutionary War.

In an essay about Harold Q. Mansur, Ed Lynskey says that Scott Jordan is tough enough to be Micky Spillane's lawyer. That's a great way to put it, and I won't try to improve upon it with my own gloss.

Masur was a post-war detective writer who worked in the tradition of pulp detective fiction, but whose work shows the increased brightness and positivity of the time. Scott Jordan is as tough as a middle class lawyer gets (this contradiction unfortunately earned Masur the label "medium boiled") but still tends to work within law (if only just).

So Rich, So Lovely, and So Dead was his fourth novel. It features the mysterious murder of Linda Franchini-Romanoff, a beautiful and screwball socialite who gets tangled up in her own looks and money. Jordan gets involved accidentally, but stays involved when he decides to defend the obvious suspect in the case. He has to unravel a puzzling mystery while contending with a baying press, an unstable client, and a deep family quarrel.

This is the first Masur that I have read, and I'm really enthusiastic about his work. I'll be keeping my eye out for more, and would recommend that you do the same-- particularly if you have a taste for post-war pulp detective fiction.

In an interview in 1992 that he did with Gary Lovisi, Masur (a practicing lawyer at the time of writing) talked about what he wanted with his character:

"I'll tell you what I wanted for Scott Jordan. I wanted a guy who was as ingenious in law as Perry Mason, but who was as bright and as insouciant as Nero Wolfe's Archie Goodwin. I wanted to get a combination between those two. Whether I ever achieved it or not, I don't know. But that was the sort of a guy I wanted."

I tend to think that he got pretty close.

This book is based on fieldwork among 13 clandestine and legal parties of the left in Brazil, and in the Catholic Church on the issue of liberation theology. The Church is an important part of the Workers Party or P.T., whose founder Lula (Luis Inacio da Silva) is now President of Brazil.
This book maps out the ideologies and policies of the left parties, and the bitter conflict within the Church over its mission to the poor. The author ran some risks to get this data and it is a really interesting look at Brazilian politics from the inside.

The President in this novel is named President Bagidonitz pronounced (bag of donuts)and the story line is about what many people thing really went on in the Clinton White House with some obvious embellishments. It isn't whacko political but more cynical Shakesperean political based on a fictitious story line that carries the plot. Very enjoyable.
