This book was an easy and comforting read. I can highly recommend it if you are caring for someone who is terminally ill. It gives a very gracious and encouraging picture of the final months and days. The analogy of "May I walk you home" will stay with you long after you put the book down. It's also a great read for those who support the caregivers who support the ill.

A good "companion" for those companioning terminal loved ones.

I chose this book for two reasons: Joyce Rupp is my favorite author of spiritual materials, and I was in the process of walking my daughter home during her final year of life.

The stories and prayers helped me feel that I was not alone in this journey. That others had experienced it before and lived through it to tell the tale gave me strength to do the same. I know that my daughter had a better quality of life through this process of dying from cancer and being in home hospice care because I was better prepared to companion her.

I highly recommend this book to clergy, family members, and other caregivers. It is full of 'hope' as well as practical suggestions gleaned from others' experiences of companioning the dying.

I found this book to be most helpful for me as a co-caregiver, but would be reticent to have given the book to my dad (the patient) to read as there was a lot of grim discussion that I'm not sure would have been useful to him at this point in his treatment. He was recently diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma and was scheduled for a radical nephrectomy when I got this book. His immediate focus was on the surgery and recovery. At this stage he has very good survival odds and this book on the whole seems to be geared for the seriously ill cancer patient. If his disease was one that was terminal or if it becomes terminal, I might think differently about it and recommend the book to him as well.

As a family member/caregiver I found two sections particularly helpful. The first was how to be a supportive family member (i.e. recognizing the stages of grief the patient and family experience) rather than isolating or shutting off the patient (which seems obvious, but when you are dealing with an angry/cranky person you're natural instinct is to leave them alone). The second was the information regarding pain and pain management. There is so much stigma regarding pain medication and fear of addiction that people suffer in pain unnecessarily.

For those reading this book as part of continuing education for psychceu, it's a straight forward question/answer test and the answers are easy to find. You'll also learn something along the way.

Nancy Hassett Dahm has been a God-Send for myself and my family from the initial shock of the diagnosis, through any illness, treatment, etc...all the way to the end. She is knowledgeable, but sensitive. She's a wonderful contact to have. She can answer all your questions and validate all your emotions. She's very honest, but in a very caring way. I am sending her book to my best friend, whose Mother was just diagnosed with cancer. I can't imagine going through this disease or seeing a loved one go through it without the help of this wonderful book. It is informative, comforting and so helpful in every way. Thank you, Nancy.

There are plenty of examples to help cement each concept and the authors also use comic strips to emphasize each point. I highly recommend this book the anyone who wants to learn how to write a paper correctly.

On this cold, winter day in January, I'm reading More Nitty Gritty Grammar. Who would have thought that a grammar book could be entertaining? Edith Fine and Judith Josephson have found the perfect formula. Similar to their first book, Nitty Gritty Grammar, this one is organized in an appealing, accessible way. I actually enjoyed testing my grammar skills with the quiz. Their compilation of nationally-syndicated cartoons addressing grammar issues adds visual interest and levity. They explain the rules, state the exceptions, and give plenty of examples. It's an excellent resource guide for yourself or for a friend. I highly recommend it.

There has never been a friendlier invitation to master English usage basics than Nitty-Gritty Grammar until its new companion, More Nitty-Gritty Grammar. I recommend them for all my community college students. Not in the ivory tower crowd, authors Fine and Josephson are, however, astute observers of language ills and, if laughter is the best medicine, most-palatable healers. Their topics are relevant, their well-researched explanations straightforward, their examples fresh and funny. My students agree.

Better organized and more comprehensive than even the popular _Transitive Vampire_ series or _Woe Is I_, this second book by Josephson and Fine is whimsical and easy to use. It's packed with humorous examples that are current and uncontrived. This is the only book I've found to cover some of the finer points that have always bothered or confused me--such as when British convention differs from that in America. Indispensible!

I've worked in the telecom industry for years, and this dictionary accurately defines more telecom terms than any other. However, it is not very well-written. The style is really colloquial and inconsistent. One definition may read like it's straight out of IEEE-100, while others sound like a hallway conversation between engineers. Even within a definition, the same term may be capitalized in one instance but not in others. So, I'd put it in the library for sure, but get The Authoritative Dictionary of IEEE Standards Terms (IEEE 100), Seventh Edition and McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, too!!

Less than nine months ago I started working for a software company that makes OSS/BSS solutions for Telecommunication operators.
As an economist I had a lot of problems understanding the sector and the acronyms that telecommunication people love to use. Having this dictionary at hand did definitively help me a lot. I do recommend it to every person wanting to get a general understanding of the sector. Only a pity that Harry did not include more graphics to help with the explanations.

"Nitty-Gritty Grammar" is an outstanding book. I read it prior to having its authors Edith Fine and Judith Josephson on my talk radio show on WRKO Radio in Boston. They were informative and funny and the phone lines were full the entire hour they were on my show. The key to this book is that it is both educational and entertaining. In someone else's hands, this book could be a real snoozer. In Judith and Edith's hands, it is a work of art. If you read this book, you will stop making up "irregardless" and other words which don't exist (see page 85.) You will stop mispronouncing words like "asterisk" (it's not asterick-- see page 72.) And you will never again misplace your apostrophes, dangle your participles or commit other high crimes and misdemeanors against grammar, spelling, punctuation and pronunciation (see pages 1-102--the entire book.) The book includes many cartoons which will teach you while you laugh. The section on "Ways to Tame the Spelling Monster" is indispensable with clever ways to remember the correct spelling of words including "dessert" (it has two s's--think strawbery shortcake). If you only read the "ticker tape" which runs throughout the book at the bottom of each page, you will learn more than you did in twelve years of boring English classes. The amazing part of this book is that it can be used by children, teenagers and adults. I suggest you buy copies for your entire family and all your friends and coworkers. They'll speak properly when they thank you.

I needed a book on grammar. There are so many different rules it's hard to keep them straight. I needed the basics and I needed a quick reference guide. I did not need one of those huge books that had 300 plus pages. They were filled with nonsense and radom rules that only English professors need to know! This book is easy to understand. Don't know the difference between bore and bore? Or altar and alter? There is a quick guide in the back to show you what to use. Get confused with lay, and laid? There is also a nice chart that shows you the difference between present, past and past participle. There is so much packed into this little book it will amaze you.

This book is excellent. And it's so easy to understand. It doesn't bog you down with unless information. This is a must have for everyone!

This book is a must read. I understand it is 10 years old but when you read it you forget that. It is relevant to the life we live today. Tony explores all the excuses we (men) use as to why we are not good husbands, fathers, friends etc. Tony crushes all of those excuses using the only book that really matters, the Bible. The Biblical references is what makes this book so powerful. It is one thing to read a book where someone is telling you how they made it through hard times. Most of us will read those types of books and think it does not pertain to me personally. However Tony gave Biblical examples that far exceed any struggles we have ever had in life. One of the examples is of Joseph and how he was imprisoned for all those years. Prison in Biblical times are far worse than they are today despite what stories we hear from those who have been. This book is a life changer, if you open your eyes, ears and hearts to it. It is truly inspriational and I recommend this book to every MAN to read. There is so much I want to write about this book, but I do not want to give it away. There is no excuse in this life for any shortfalls we have. If you read this book I guarantee you will find that whatever you say is holding you back is minor compared to what is in the Bible. So read this book and throw your excuses out the door.

This is a great little book. It's a fast and easy read, but some how it manages to pack a ton of accurate material in there anyway. I bought a copy to give to my peanut allergic sons' teachers - and they actually read it. That tells me that it truly is an easy read - and that isn't a slam on teachers - it's just that they usually don't have time to read any of the info I bring them on peanut allergy.

It isn't hysterical - it doesn't call for peanut bans in school - but it does take it very seriously and gives the reader the information necessary for them to make their own decisions about how to deal with the allergy.

A Must Read!

I highly recommend this book to anyone recently diagnosed with, or having a child diagnosed with peanut allergy. Grandparents and other close family would also benefit from this book. (This should also be on the reading list for daycare employees and teachers!) Peanut allergy should not be taken lightly because of the serious consequences (which most people seem to be ingnorant about).

This book is written in an easy-to-read question and answer style and covers all aspects of the condition. I have learned so much from this book and continue to reference it. I have highlighted many passages and am quick to show them to family or friends when they just don't seem to be "getting it".

I can't recommend this book enough!

The book is set up in a question and answer form. All the questions are listed in the contents with pages showing where to find the answers. It is also easy to read, so you won't be stumbling over annoying medical jargon.

Great book, love the charts!

I actually just re-ordered and received this book. I had it when it first came out. If memory serves me correct, a new book should contain a pendulum as well, thus the name "The Pendulum Kit". So if you buy this book, buy it new in case you need a pendulum as well.

I love the fact that The Pendulum Kit is written in laymans terms, very easy to follow along as your read. Sig lays it out pretty simple, in a way that lets you start using a pendulum after the very first few pages. This book shows you how to personally discover your pendulum movements for YES/NO/MAYBE, whereas some other older books I have read, just assume a certain position for the answers.

What sets The Pendulum Kit apart from other books is the way in which the author has developed a set of questions to be asked before using the pendulum to assure a much higher success rate. In fact, I have adopted this pattern for years and forgotten where I had learned it from until I re-read the book.

The book then moves into practical application exercises such as how to tune in, asking basic questions, the coin toss exercise and discussing the influence of emotion and the leading edge concept. All in all, through these exercises and discussions, you can tune into latent skills you might not have known you had through this process, even if you've never used a pendulum before.

The book also contains several charts, but the charts are very few compared to other books. However, the look of each chart is very attractive. Each chart is comprised of black and silver coloring, which almost makes it appear as a color book. Some of the charts include a World Map, which was seemingly included to help you hone your dowsing skills through a series of map dowsing questions (with the answers in the back of the book), Astrological charts, YES/NO and Percentage charts as well as a Weather chart.

Out of all the pendulum books I have read, this is one of my fav's...That's why I bought it again. I loaned my original copy to my little brother and haven't see it since:)

A must read for all dowsers!

The pendulum that comes with the book is decent, though it is on a thread which tends to slide from the center, so you may want to check out other pendulums later on.

The book contains illustrations which demonstrate how to hold a pendulum, establish basic communication signals between your subconscious and the pendulum and it guides you through a step by step recommended questioning process beginning by stating what you would like to accomplish and then asking "Can I?", "May I?", "Am I ready?", and upon getting the answer confirming that the answer you got is true.

The book contains several exercises and charts (Yes/No/Maybe chart, 0-100% chart, world map, fun astrology charts, and weather chart). Few other dowsing applications are mentioned.

At the end of the book is a brief overview of using other dowsing tools - L-rod, Y-rod, bobber, as well as dowsing without any devices. You are bound to have some fun with this set and perhaps you decide to continue your learning.

Great book, good pendulum!

I have always had strong intuition. Recently I realized after trying the viewer challenges on the television show "America's Psychic Challenge", and some online ESP tests, that I have surprising accuracy.

As my interest in the subject grew, I decided to purchase this pendulum kit to see if I could use the pendulum to enhance my intuition. Let me tell you, it really works! To give one example - I created a simple test to develop my accuracy with the pendulum. I can take a deck of shuffled playing cards and use my pendulum to determine if the card I flip over will be a red or black card. Right now I am at about 75% accuracy, on average - much greater than the 50% that would be by chance. This is only after a couple of weeks working with my pendulum. Each day I practice I feel more in tune with it and I know my accuracy with the pendulum for it's many uses will only improve.

The book does a great job with starting the reader off with various exercises to build skill and confidence, and then takes you through the various applications for a pendulum.

If you have any interest in using a pendulum, and you are a beginner, this book will give you the foundation you need for successful pendulum use, as well as a very nice pendulum. The pendulum comes with a string that I am going to replace with a chain, but the pendulum itself is terrific.

I bought this book for my 5-yr.-old son and it was a huge hit. He will look at it for a couple of days and then it's back on the shelf, but it regularly is pulled off again. He loves the little Pokemon-like characters and is getting tonnes of info (as am I) about the elements of the periodic table at the same time. He also makes it a point to tell everyone that there is chromium in our spoons which always catches them off guard :)

Great book for kids who love science!

This book has almost singlehandedly convinced my 6 year old he wants to be a chemist. He has read it repeatedly, memorized the chemical abbreviations and periodic numbers, learned about protons, neutrons, electrons, etc, and his favorite question to ask a new friend is now "What is your favorite element?" OK, not all kids will geek out this much, but the fun pictures and engaging text may just convince some other children to spend thier braincells on chemistry instead of Pokemon. Highly recommended!

Adorable and truly informative

I bought this book for my eight year old daughter. My nine year old son hangs over her shoulder to read along. They will read two or three pages a day every day for a while, then, ignore it for a week or so. I'll think they've lost interest in it, but, nope, it will come out again after a rest. I think there is a chance that, unlike their mother, they will someday pass high school chemistry.

This book has created a thirst for scientific knowledge

My son, age 6, received this book almost 5 months age. The binding is just about to go - he takes it everywhere and is the only book he willingly reads to himself. Detailed descriptions of the elements are definantly included in the book but unlike my own experience with the elements the author makes it fun. The uses of each element are described so the elements become relevant to even a six year. The included poster is informative and cute enough that he wants to keep it on his wall. The only problem now is to find another chemistry book written so a six year old can understand it.

great book for middle school chemistry!

This book describes over 100 elements of the periodic table from a first-person point of view, making the elements seem like they are people. Each element has a two-page spread, with one page containing information about the element and the other page showing a cartoon picture of the element. The information listed includes the element's symbol, atomic number, color, and date of discovery. Each element then describes its characteristics through a first-person narrative. A glossary and index are available at the end, and a poster of the periodic table with the cartoon pictures is included.

This book is so cute and clever! It makes a topic which can be boring to students into something fun. Having the information written in first person helps to draw the reader into the book because it is more like a story. It includes some information on how the elements are grouped together, but mostly concentrates on describing the individual elements. The poster is an added bonus. My students loved this book! If you teach chemistry, this should definitely be part of your collection.

When I received the book, I sat down and read it through and through. This book is exactly what I need for my third grade class. The concept of practice centers for intermediate students makes sense. Debbie Diller's book
gave me the written "how" and provided the blackline masters to put those ideas into practice. I just completed my first week of school and I have already used several of her ideas. This book is easy to read, understand, and most importantly practical.

This was an excellent resource! With our school getting ready to teach combination grades-I will highly recommend it to all teachers. The ideas are practical and with a limited budget, will be attainable in our classes.
Finally- a book to help right away, simple ideas that we can all use!

This is just what I've needed. Excellent source for getting kids motivated and on tasks that help THEM to learn. Outlines possible problems and solutions ahead of time. Great ideas for taking centers I already want and making them real learning stations in the classroom.

Other teachers on my floor are already looking to "borrow" it.
