Every recipe that I have used in this cookbook without exception has been wonderful! I especially like the Old-World Rasberry Bars. The cookbook is worth the price just for the beautiful pictures that appear every time you turn the page. The pictures of mouthwatering deserts, entrees, vegetables, etc give the reader an idea of what the finished product will look like. I showed my copy to my mom the other day and now she wants a copy of the cookbook. I would recommend this cookbook to the novice as well as the experienced cook.

I bought this book over eight years ago and still pull it out whenever we have dinner guests in our calendar. The full color pictures are inspirational even if you don't follow the recipe to the letter.

The preparation and cook times are very accurate -- great for when you have guests arriving for dinner at a certain time and the directions are easy enough to follow for when my 15 year old wants to try her hand at dinner.

This book is not just for dinners either! There are great dessert and sandwich recipes as well. All recipes contain quite a bit of butter (it IS a Land o'Lakes cookbook) so they are not for those cooking light, but are very tasty.

The skillet pizza is the only recipe I have not liked so far. My favorite recipes are the deep dish apple pie and chicken Kiev.

Wonderful inspiring cookbook!

I just received this from Amazon the other day.

It is a plastic binder.
This makes it very easy to removed the recipe that you want to make without having to
Turn the book this way or that way to read the recipe and look at the picture.

The other wonderful part of this cookbook is that the pictures help guide you.

The recipes are only on one page and the picture on the other side.

I had this delivered while at work.
I had people clamoring at lunch to look through this cook book.

One person said that it made him drool and another lady stating that she was buying this
Cook book.

Another wonderful part of this is that you can add recipes to this as it is a binder.
This is worth the money I spent.

I have looked for cook books that have pictures and this one is a great buy.

I am extremely selective of any cookbook. This book has a wonderful variety of recipes and ALL are very quick and easy, which is great for us busy parents who believe in a well-rounded, balanced and wholesome meal. That's hard to do these days AND in this economy. I'm not a "chef" by any means but try to put out very "taste-bud" pleasing meals. This cookbook allows great meals on a budget w/little prep/cooking time or mess. You will love the extra bonus info that comes with the book. Detailed explanations of "how to's"; shop for vegis, identify forms of fish, barbecue or grill, cut up and bone chicken, etc. Also, cooking tips (very helpful:),and such a variety of recipes in each catagory of food. **Great taste w/clear & easy instructions**

I have bought six of these books and given them to friends and relatives, keeping one for myself. I find myself reading it continually. Every day I read a few pages and that helps set the tone for the day. The book has brought together some of the most poetic and profound Zenlike sayings and thoughts.

I gave a copy to a friend who asked what Zen is. This is not a Zen textbook and yet it is. Zen is not linear or analytic. It is intuitive, poetic. And that's the way this book feels.

I recommend you buy it, read a few pages per day until there is no one reading and nothing to read.

Just a real handy check-up

From the inimitable Walker Percy ("not to be onto something is to be in despair") to the counterpoint of cosmic interrelationships between zen and nuclear physics, this book can be anything from a 'thought for a day' to a thematic bible for speakers.

I hand it to first-year law clerks who ask "why" too often, as much as recommend it to people who try to answer Les McCann's question "real compared to what?"

This is not a zen book as such. It is a wonderful quote-by-quote reminder that simplicity of thought and action is closer to truth than noise and clutter. It's zen lite maybe, while it is also accessible and thought provoking. A traipse through it's pages will always raise a smile and some recognition of having seen something clearly. Pick it up. If you don't like it, you know someone who will.

This book is okay, but not great. I like some of the entries in it, but if you are looking for a source of Buddhist wisdom, be aware that many of the quotations in this little book are not from Eastern sources. I prefer a book of Buddhist wisdom titled "Open Your Mind, Open Your Life" by Taro Gold.

The Big Little Book of Enlightenment

Review Date: 2006-01-14
This chunky little book deals with using words to express wordless truths. Some of these sayings make you think- and some of them attempt to move you beyond thought. The ego is momentarily forgotten so that subject and object merge- and then you forget both of them. That is the Zen of it.

This really is a nice little Zen primer in the way that it touches on the essence of everything from basic Zen vocabulary (bodhisattva to zendo), historical figures (the Buddha, Bodhidharma, Layman P'ang, the Sixth Patriarch, Crazy Cloud, Basho, Suzuki, Ryokan, Dogen), to practice (koans, zazan, martial arts, haiku, tea ceremony, painting and calligraphy.) It is the wide range quotations though that really makes the book, from classical koans to the thoughts of beats, bullfighters, and scientists. It all blends together to really point to the path to enlightenment. And it is small enough that you can carry it around in your pocket to pull out at any odd moment for inspiration. You could do worse than to make this your first introduction to the subject.

There is both a bibliography in the back for more in-depth study, as well as, a listing of the sources for all the quotes.

First, it's not ABOUT Zen. It's a collection of quotations and anecdotes that -sometimes - illustrate a few Zen concepts. It's like looking at a flower through a multi-faceted crystal. Every viewpoint changes the perspective and gives you something else to see. Meanwhile, the flower remains the same.
Some of it is wise, some of it is deep, some of it is funny, some just clever. Sorry - it's not the can-opener to enlightenment. Some people get upset when they don't get that instant gratification. This isn't a step-by-step instructuon manual.
Just read it and enjoy it without preconception. Meditate on it if you find something particularly worthwhile. Or don't. But just don't make it into something bigger than what it intends to be; take it as it is: a small collection of interesting and often pertinent pieces, with a little humour thrown in.
Read it one page at a time, and it'll last a long time. I find a different view of the flower each time I read - or re-read - a page.

The 1989 English translation of the canticles and psalms in the New Zealand Prayer Book are a work, of which Archbishop Cranmer would be proud. I've seen and used the NZPB canticles printed in other, unofficial prayer books. The settings for Morning and Evening Worship, (to be used mainly by small groups and individuals), are organized by day and time. In addition, these "abbreviated" services mark a return to the cathedral office, which was superceded by the monastic office about 1500 years ago. The New Zealand Prayer Book includes several settings for Eucharist, (Holy Communion), as well as a treasury of traditional and contemporary prayers. One caveat; if you prefer traditional English, the 1662 English Prayer Book, or the current American Prayer Book, ( Rite 1), this Prayer Book will most probably not interest you.

I purchased this book as a gift for my husband, who was impressed by its contemporary version of The Lord's Prayer. Once we received it, however, we found has much more value than just one expression.

While we don't speak the Maori language, we're delighted that the New Zealand Prayer Book, for the Anglican Church in New Zealand, includes translations of many worship resources in Maori. It's also instructive to read such things as the list of saints whose lives are observed in the church calendar. And the black-and-white ink drawings that illustrate the sections are evocative and intriguing.

What we find most important, however, is the beauty of the language. It took nearly 25 years of consultation to produce this prayer book, and in our reading it was worth every minute. Rarely do we find humanity's spiritual longings, along with its praise to God, so masterfully composed. It's a delight simply to read the prayer book, and even more to use its resources in one's spiritual observance. We highly recommend it.

Really Good!!!

The language is fresh and really makes the Book of Common Prayer come alive. Even though it is written for the New Zealand Church and I am American, I find it very useful with extremely beautiful wording. I love how the words, "Eternal Spirit, Living God" is used. In the evening prayers, one of the prayers is:

Eternal Spirit, living God,
in whom we live and move and have our being,
all that we are, have been, and shall be is known to you,
to the very secret of our hearts
and all that rises to trouble us.
Living flame, burn into us,
Cleansing wind, blow through us,
fountain of water, well up within us,
that we may love and prase in deed and in truth.

Simply beautiful! Buy it, you won't regret it.

I keep buying extra copies of this book, it's so well-written. I give it to doctors, to friends, to anyone I can to inform them about porphyria. It's easy enough reading without being simplistic, the perfect balance of medical information along with case studies and resource links. I really can't thank Diana enough for supplying the Porphyria community with this text. I wish it was mandatory reading for doctors in every hospital in this country.

Luckily I ran across this very basic easy-to-read medical handbook designed for patients. Not the ordinary scientific approach to a complex subject, but written that any patient can understand the basis of their complex disease. I was given the term "porphyria" over the phone from the specialist who did not explain anything except told me to get this book and read it cover from cover. When the book arrived I had all kinds of questions which were covered in simple to understand language for the ordinary patient. No mumbo-jumbo of medical terms. When I went back to see the specialists we then were able to dialogue because we both had a basis of information as a background. Since then I have ordered books for co-workers, family members and my pastor so they can understand what I have and understand that it is not a psychological disease.

Simply stated, easy to understand and comprehensive.

This is not a heavy medical text or full of biochemical terms, but written in everyday layman's English, and something a clinician can share with a patient knowing that the book will cover all aspects of the acute hepatic form from description, medical history, drugs, nutrition, to family interpersonal relations to the wonderful case histories of case subjects.

No other porphyria book can be grasped as well as this one.
This book was written by a patient with a publishing house offering the book to the general public as part of the non-profit charitable Porphyria Educational Services, a group that gives
educational support for patients with this disease.

Unsafe Drug lists in this box and all other information found
in the text is regularly updated on a website of the same name,
so your handbook is always up-to-date.

I have freely shared this with my patients which they could read and share with family members. It was most helpful for them as well as saving costly time having to be spent in the clinic.

I picked up Radical Hospiality because of a sermon I heard in Boston awhile ago while visiting a friend from college. I did not catch the name of the author, authors as it turns out, but I was sure the minister, a woman, was quoting from a book. When I did a internet search it turned out that the phrase Radical Hospitality is used by religious and social groups from churches to conventions, all around the world. What I amazed by is that so few of the people, like the minister, name where they got their quotes or who they are quoting. This is a very fine book. It borders on brilliant actually and I am not the sort to use such a word casually. Why would anyone not want to give these authors the credit they deserve? The book, Radical Hospitality is challenging in a gentle way. I never once felt like the writers were shoving some agenda down my throat. There is just this level of telling their own experience and stories that any half-brain dead person could tell is from their hearts. Don't get me wrong. It is not a personal experience kind of book and it is not a book for anyone who like fluff instead of substance. But, if you are looking for a book about what has gone wrong in how we relate to one another, this is it. And if you love it too, be sure you tell people who you're quoting!

In Radical Hospitality I found a discussion of Benedictine monasticism and Christian spirituality that surprised me. I'm not exactly sure why but I expected this book to be a practical guide to implementing a monastic rule into one's life filled with specific suggestions and examples cross-indexed to specific rules from within the Benedictine tradition. That is not what this book is.

Instead, it is something much richer and more beautiful. What the book is centers around a discussion of the undergirding and overarching themes and ethos of monastic life and the hospitality that flows from it. Interwoven within these discussions are found wonderful stories that range from the humorous to the poignant taken from the lives of the authors and those they share their lives with. It is from within these elements that the application of these ideas within our lives is discussed in a way in which one ideas flows from and builds on the previous portion of the discussion.

I found my own thinking about how to practice hospitality deeply enriched by this book and I will return to it from time to time to reinforce what I have learned and to reflect on the themes woven throughout the work. I strongly recommend this book to anyone seeking to learn the practice of hospitality from within the practice of monasticism.

"Radical Hospitality" was given to me by a friend who thought very highly of it, and she was right. This is one of those rare books that is really for almost anyone--highly readable, charming and soothing, deep and practical, and full of wisdom and love. It is not particularly theological--it is about lived Christianity. It would be an excellent choice to give as a gift, and it is certainly also a book one would buy for oneself for one's own growth.

As we awaken to the need to live our beliefs about love, to live generously, graciously, welcomingly, we are confronted by our own frightened hesitancy to be present to the needs of others. This book explores how we can reach out while necessarily preserving our own boundaries. "Radical Hospitality" teaches (with wonderful examples) how and why we should become more open and generous, and concludes very credibly that the essence is "listening," perhaps the most basic Benedictine value, used here in the sense of a kind of loving contemplative social presence. Everyone wants and needs to be truly listened to, the authors say, and especially at the times when it can be hardest to want to listen, when the one being listened to is in pain, angry, afraid. To feel heard is to feel real and loved and a little bit healed.

I found "Radical Hospitality" itself to be a beautiful experience of the authors' hospitality toward the reader. Even the design of the book itself is quite inviting.

As a nanny and a future teacher, I've been looking for a book that has a lot of various craft ideas with simple instructions and that can be for kids of all ages. This book provides exactly just that! I especially like how the crafts are for certain seasons and for different situations like "rainy days" and "everyday". The introduction contains a lot of specifics like how to organize your craft area and what you will need in order to complete all the crafts in the book. I think the best part about this craft book is that each craft has a very detailed picture with it, so you are able to see what you are making! Like I said before, this is excellent for kids from ages 4 and up and the crafts are very cute, some even looking like you bought it from Pier 1. :)
The hard cover and gloss pages also add to Rosie's Crafty-U. I'm excited to start creating the crafts for summer with the kids!

I was unable to put this book down! It is a suspense-filled mystery centered around a serial killer who preys on exotic dancers. It has somewhat changed my personal opinion of the adult entertainment industry. And for Ms. Todd-O'Neal, all I can say is "YOU GO GIRL!" Anyone who has the guts to write so frankly about such a taboo subject (and do as well with it as she has) earns my respect any day!

Made an instant reader out of me

I am not really a 'book person,' but this sleuth/detective story really captured my interest. The reading is very easy to follow, and the story is quite suspenseful. I would reccommend it to anyone (as it was recommended to me).

A great read for people in the entertainment industry!

Wow! Super mystery! It literally had me rivited to the couch! I would reccommend this book to anyone -- why is it not readily available in book stores? This particular book has to be ordered from a bookstore or ordered online. Is it possible to change this? Hard to refer people to the book when it is difficult to purchase. But the purchase rigarmarole is worth it -- the book is outstanding!

This book is completely engrossing and one of the finest books of this genre I have read for a long time. I am a very ardent Michael Connelly fan and find Angela's style to be very unique but with the same attention to detail and reader involvement as Connelly's. I am eagerly awaiting her next book ... bravo to the newest star on the block!

A+ book!

This is a book that will keep you up all night, reading. Angela Todd O'Neal leads you to think one thing, then jerks you off completely in the other direction without warning. The characters are true to life, and the way the book is told, it makes you think that it could happen to anyone. It makes you question your own safety.

It's hard to believe that sexual harassment is a reality in today's workplace. Unfortunately it is and this book is truly insightful and provides a needed safety net of information for those dealing with this difficult subject. Definitely the best I've seen on this subject.

An excellent book with current information on the subject

Thank God this book was written! Unfortunately due to confidentiality clauses victims are made to sign, others dealing with similar problems on the job do not have the benefit of their experiences. Thanks to Ms. O'shea and Ms. LaLonde for having the courage to explore this difficult subject.

The best book on the subject from a victim's point of view

Having "been there and done that" this book validated all the emotions and choices I made as the victim of sexual harassment. It really tells it like it is. I highly recommend it to anyone who truly wants to understand the ramifications of sexual harassment.

The book explores such subject remarkably well...

Understanding the sensitivities surrounding the subject of the book, I realize it may seem rather obtuse to "enjoy" reading it.

However, this book is not just about condolence. Rather, it gives us the realization of the prevalent societal truth. Also, the book is not just a mere reference, but true stories based on authors' own experiences.

Authors sketched the very contours of real life in our society, but it's a finely tuned portrait, with deep perspective and understanding, rather than a mere description.

The book is well written and unapologetic in its frankness.....most readers, whether it'd be a man or a woman, should find some relatedness to this book.
