(American poet; born 1902; died 1971)
I love Ogden Nash perhaps because my father was such a devotee of Nash and was always eager to share his love of the author's humor by reading his poetry aloud to our family. Nash's pun-like rhymes, sometimes with words deliberately misspelled for comic effect.
Nash often wrote in an exaggerated verse form with pairs of lines that rhyme, but are of dissimilar length and irregular meter.
The Ant
by Ogden Nash
The ant has made himself illustrious
Through constant industry industrious.
So what?
Would you be calm and placid
If you were full of formic acid?
I was probably one of the few 6-year old kids in San Diego with any knowledge of the word formic acid.
