Not just for Catholics; not just for Christians...Review Date: 2007-12-14
While I was growing up, people would call Mother Teresa a "living saint" (I grew up and still live in a heavily in a Catholic neighborhood). Recent evidence reveals that she sometimes wrestled with doubts and frustrations. This has actually enhanced my appreciation for her, in that I see Mother Teresa now as more a human being, who struggled along like the rest of us, and could relate with our faults and trials better than someone of superhuman constitution.
Her feeling for the poor; that is the economically, as well as, spiritually poor, gives us all a lot to think about. Whatever religion you are, I am sure you can find comfort in Mother Teresa's gentle spirit:
"I deal with thousands of Christians and non-Christians, and in each you can see such conscience at work in their lives, drawing them to God...If everyone were capable of discovering the image of God in their neighbors, do you think we would still need tanks and generals?"
Stunning In Its SimplicityReview Date: 2006-10-01
In this slender volume Mother Teresa's thoughts are presented without commentary, footnotes or sources. Just her words, stunning in their simplicity. Stunning too in her literal application of Jesus' own teaching--to give everything to the poor--everything--and follow him. There is a brief interview with Mother Teresa and the briefest possible autobiographical sketch. I wish there had been more.
This beautiful little book made a profound impression on me and made me want to read more. I recommend it highly to you as well. Reviewed by Louis N. Gruber.

One of the most beautiful books I ownReview Date: 2008-02-02
I felt attracted by the picture on the cover and I wasn't dissapointed at all when I received the book.
The author capture trough his vision the simple beauty of nature and gave me that sense of movement and fragility that I was looking for while working with the colors and textures of my next collection.
A real treasure.

If I could wish for anything, it would be for more. And more. The design makes me wonder about why each specific flower/composition was chosen, and how many were not. I tend to want to see groupings and images that elaborate on one another.
Receiving this book is like being given a gorgeous and lasting bouquet.

He who makes English get up and dance...Review Date: 2006-04-28
I bought this collection because I enjoyed others of his works (especially The Spirit Level and Seeing Things), which I uncovered at the library, too much to go long without his poetry. And this collection turns out to have all of my favorites from those volumes, as well as the best and most skilled of the poems of his earlier volumes. Do I recommend it? I wouldn't have prominently displayed the fact that I was reading it in numerous public places if I didn't, now would I?

I went through the book myself first and then contacted Marlys to help me "fill-in-the blanks". Marlys was very prompt in responding and turned around a full assessment within one week. The result is that I now understand why I didn't enjoy my previous jobs, and most importantly, I know what I need in my current job to derive satisfaction and enjoyment from my work. Now, I can clearly articulate my career and life goals because I know what my strengths are, and I will build upon them to achieve the greatest success. I look forward to being much happier and excited about my work as well!

What Will You Be When You Grow Up?Review Date: 2004-05-04
In this excellent work you will learn about Motivated Abilities, and why you should work to your strengths more than always trying to improve your weaknesses. You will understand why you are particularly good at some activities, and perhaps a bit less so at others.
After you have read the book, help with understanding your Motivated Abilities is available from Marlys' company, Marlys Hanson and Associates. While the book teaches the method of doing this analysis oneself, the experience of Marlys and her team will help you learn even more about yourself for a modest additional cost.
I wish I had found Marlys sooner, but am thrilled that I found her at all.
Very Useful Resource, Highly RecommendedReview Date: 2004-03-26
As much as I enjoyed Miller's books, I needed something practical to accompany it. I found "Passion and Purpose" to be just that. It gave me a superb framework to map out the necessary data and analyse it. One result: understanding my motivation payoff, a major "ah-ha" for me, and something I doubt I would have come to on my own.
The section pertaining to analysis I found to be particularly helpful. It assisted me to be both throrough and quick. Several subseqent sections that help work through a "Best-Fit" scenario and team design I also found extremely useful.
I would say that "Passion and Purpose" is a wonderful companion to Miller's books and/or as a stand alone work on giftedness. It believe it will really help you to identify and maximize your natural design, motivations and abilities, and ultimatley lead to a more impactful and fulfilling work life.

Great Book and Wonderful MovieReview Date: 2005-04-07
I was amazed that the movie has not been put on VHS or DVD. The movie follows the book fairly closely. Monty Woolley plays the elderly man, and Roddy McDowall and Anne Baxter play two of the children. Otto Preminger is a German Major. Made in 1942 it is both dramatic and comedic. I highly recommend you try to catch it on TV.

Delightful insight into a world long goneReview Date: 2006-04-04
We read of Maud's complex family arrangements, her desire to be a good teacher and disappointment with some of her placements. Her small victories selling stories to publications, and the seemingly endless stream of suitors who proclaim love for her (my favourite is the hapless Mr Mustard). It is a tale of love found and not acted on (and the agonies that accompany it), familial obligations, frustrated talents and beautiful Canadian country side. It tells of heppiness, despair, joy and nostalgia, and is as engagingly written as any fabulous novel.
By all means read this if you wish to understand the creator of one of the world's most engaging literary characters, but also to have a glimpse of a world none of us will ever see the likes of.

She said then that they had to wait for some of the people in the journals to die before they could publish them. I would guess Dr. Stuart Macdonald was one of them.
They thrill me and make me feel closer to thise amazing woman. I've read everything she's written now. The sad thing is that once this volume is finished there is nothing new to read.
My greatests thanks to L. M. Montgomery and to Drs. Rubio and Waterson for their great work.
