I thought Midnight and Moonrise were much better than Dawn. The whole point of the book was for the clans to leave the forest but for the firt 200+ pages they were just sitting around watching the forest get destroyed. In Midnight the whole book was about traveling, but in Dawn the clans make a longer journey in a smaller amount of pages.Once the clans left the forest the book got better.

All of the Erin Hunter books are great! I just love them and have read them many times over. I am not a reader, I hate to read!!! But give me a Warrior series book and leave me alone for a few days. They are the best. Thanks Erin for opening up a new world for me.

Nice how the Clans could come together, and not rip each others throat out.
My fave bit would have to be when Crowpaw/feather said he wasn't afraid of dying because Feathertail would be waiting for him.
Kind of longish, but still good.

This is the third installment of the New Prophecy series, the books based on Firestar's ( the hero of our Erin Hunter's first series )and Sandstorm's children, and Tigerclaw's children. ( Tigerclaw was the bloodthirsty villian on the last series ). In this book, our characters Brambleclaw, Squirrelflight, Crowfeather, Stormfur, and Tawnypelt all return from the long, sorrowful, and dangerous journey. They are missing a gentle soul though- Stormfur's sister, Feathertail, died in the second book.
If you haven't read any of these nooks yet, they are superbly written and star cats- my favorite animal! These cats live in four Clans, or tribes. They do not live with humans, but live in the forest.
Life is dangerous in the forest, as not all the Clans are always friendly. Especially now, since the humans are ripping up the Clan's territory and killing and capruring cats. When or heroes return to their home, each must cinvince their Clans to move out of the woods- and into a safe territory.
I suggest that you but every book in the series and devour them within 24 hours.I absoulutely love these books, though they contain heart breaking parts.
This review should have helped you decide to buy this book and every other one is each series. No matter the price, these books are solid gold to me!!!

The book IS great, you can read about its value in every other review on this site. I will not repeat them, instead I will tell about the little "but..": most of "healthy" or "non-pathological" relationships we support is not of the bipolar model of the offender and the offended one. Usually we use some forms of lightweight blackmail in one place where receive it in another: it is very hard to draw a distinct rule between asking and manipulating, and the more we need/want/desire something from the partner the blurrier is the border. And unfortunately you will find anything but help in "double blackmail", "crossfire", where BOTH sides of the story can read the book and find that they are the victims. The only hope is that they both get smarter with reading the book and start talking to each other. Which is very likely, as the book IS great indeed ;)

I myself am currently in the FOG that she describes in this and it has hit home very well and helping me redeem myself. She's VERY good at explaining and assisting. Sometimes I feel she's right there. Very informative about the different types of emotional blackmailers. I'm not done reading, but have gotten 3/4 of the way and I am so happy I bought this book. It caught my eye one day browsing through the bookstore, never bought it out of fear probably. My friend coaxed me into buying it and I'm glad I did. If anything, it will bring confidence and give you some sort of support while trying to figure out what is going on. Put you in the right direction so you can be free and clear! Basically, this book is AWESOME, INFORMATIVE, and a must read for current victims of emotional blackmail.

I just love reading this book to my grand child. It is a great introduction to unconditional love. This book should be on every bookshelf! All of us have times when we wonder if we are loved. It would do us well to remind children, starting at a very young age, just how special they are to us. I Love You Stinky Face

The reviews were uniformly quite good for this novel, so I decided to give it a try. The story starts out slowly and takes some time to work up a bit of interest. The central character is a twenties-something working in a nursing home. Not typically the setting for a compelling plot.
A quick read-not one of my favorites.

Highly recommended.

With The Locket, Richard Paul Evans proves once again that when it comes to feel good, sentimental stories that tug at your heartstrings, he has no equal. As with his previous books The Christmas Box and The Letter, he utilizes his unique blend of fiction and inspirational writing to convey valuable messages of love, faith, forgiveness and redemption. His words take us on an emotional journey that leaves us reaching for the kleenex box as well as motivated to incorporate these precepts into our daily lives.

After the death of his mother, Michael Keddington takes a job at the Arcadia nursing home, where he meets parient Esther Huish, a woman who is instrumental in teaching Michael many valuable life lessons concerning forgiveness, overcoming insecurities, second chances and never putting things off until tomorrow.

The Locket of the title is Esthers gift to Michael. It serves as a symbol of the missed opportunities in her life and for Michael represents an opportunity to overcome a myriad of obstacles and begin his life anew.

This warm and beautiful story should kindle the flame of hope that burns in each of us. 4 1/2 stars

THE TOONIES INVADE SILICON VALLEY is a very fun, extremely charming YA fantasy novel by versatile author Betty Dravis. TOONIES is based on the original premise that if humans are sad enough and in need of sympathy, then the cartoon characters on your computer screen can talk to you, can actually leave your computer, and can join you in the real world. Dravis is clearly a very talented and imaginative storyteller. She not only makes this wild and wacky idea completely believable, she makes it plausible as well. As Dravis weaves her wonderful web of words, you find yourself immediately drawn into the vivid world of the story, caring for her colorful characters and their predicaments, and quickly turning the pages to see how it all turns out.

As the parent of two daughters, ages 11 and 3, I would like to commend Ms. Dravis for one important aspect of this YA novel. In almost every story where the kids are the heros, the parents are either dead or they are evil (think Harry Potter or almost any Disney story, both of which I love, btw). However, in TOONIES, the parents are not only alive, they talk to their son, he goes to them for advice, and they have a wonderful family relationship based on love and respect. Yes, the family has its issues and misunderstandings, but they work together to resolve their problems. I am absolutely thrilled to see such positive family behavior and values modeled here. This key element alone would have me singing the praises of Ms. Dravis from the highest mountain tops. The fact that it comes wrapped in a grand adventure is just the icing on the cake.

I am going to give this book to my 11 year old to read next. I am certain she will love it. I think you will, too. THE TOONIES INVADE SILICON VALLEY is highly recommend for children of all ages.

Jeremy Kerns is a bright and imaginative thirteen year old cartoonist, whose cartoons are featured weekly in the newspaper.

As Jeremy's parent Arthur and Jessica's arguments have been escalating, Jeremy copes in a constructive manner. He writes and illustrates his own problems on his comic strip with Doog, the red haired boy with stars and stripes suspenders as the main character.

One particularly unnerving day of parental disagreements, Jeremy blocks his ears with his hands to try blotting out their fighting.

Jeremy pushes his chair away from the computer in exasperation, when suddenly a voice summons him. It's Doog, straight out of Cartoon Land. Jeremy is startled and distracted when Doog and Uncle Wom (a.k.a. wise old man) Jeremy learns that he must keep The Toonies a secret. Only Buddy and Ashley meet them, until...

Jeremy's unsuspecting and curious dad marvels at his son's cartoon drawings, then turns on Jeremy's computer.

This is where the Mischief Makers led by Dab (bad spelled backwards)are let loose into the Kern's home and Silicon Valley.

Mischief and mayhem follow in a funny and very, very original story.

One of my favorite events is when Jeremys mom Jessica and friend Ashley make shoes out of tin foil so the light weight little Tonnie Doog can walk more like a human than hop around.

Through Betty's highly descriptive, skilled writing, we envision the comical, colorful Toonie characters, all of whom have distinct personalities and charms. The dialogue is hysterical and we quickly become absorbed into The Toonies adventure.

This is a classic!

I recommend this book highly to both young adults and children. It will steer young people into dealing with stress in a productive manner. Because its extremely insightful, it can have a therapeutic effect on children and teach them new coping skills. For parents, this book will remind them of how positive influence can have a great impact on children.

Golly-by-Golly, the Toonies are rockin'!

"The day the Toonie leaped out of Jeremy Kern's computer and landed smack-dab in the middle of his life, he thought he was going nuts." From this very first line, Betty Dravis had me captivated and dying to know just how the story of a computer whiz kid from Silicon Valley and his cartoon friends would play out.

Troubled by his parents' recent incessant arguing, Jeremy escapes to his computer one night to discover that Doog, a teenage Toonie Jeremy created for his weekly comic strip, has come to life when Jeremy needed him most. Shortly thereafter, Uncle Wom, the lovable old leader of Cartoon Land, also befriends Jeremy and informs him that all is not well in the Toonies' homeland. The evil Dab, an ape-like bird creature, and his band of Mischief-Makers are on a mission to escape from Cartoon Land, whatever the cost, and take over the humanoid world.

With the help of his best friend, Buddy, and Buddy's twin sister, Ashley, Jeremy pledges to keep the secrets of Cartoon Land safe and never do anything that would allow Dab to escape. Everything is going fine for the three children and their new Toonie friends until Jeremy's dad, Arthur, accidentally releases Dab and his hench-birds...and chaos invades Silicon Valley.

Will Jeremy and his friends be able to defeat the evil ape-bird? Or will Dab and his followers be the victors of the climactic battle at Orange Computer's supply building and thereby unleash their reign of terror on our world?

There are so many lovable and endearing characters in "Toonies," but my favorite would have to be Third, the sweet little Mischief-Maker turned hero. I loved his interactions with Jeremy's mom, Jessica, especially the white flag incident. And you *must* read this gem of a novel to find out what I'm talking about! ;)

Betty Dravis has crafted an endlessly inventive, highly original, and entertaining tale that will appeal to readers of all ages. Don't miss it! :D

THE TOONIES INVADE SILICON VALLEY is probably one of the most charming, surprising, vivid and vibrant books I have ever read. And that statement includes everything I read as a child, and everything I've read so far as a "grown-up" (which is more of a physical classification than a mental one for me, at this point in my life... *smile*).

Betty Dravis' novel introduces readers to thirteen-year-old Jeremy Kern, who lives with his parents in Silicon Valley. As his parents' arguments get louder and more frequent, Jeremy retreats into his bedroom, working at his computer on cartoons about a boy named Doog. Creating a world and a life for Doog allows Jeremy to escape from his own troubles...but the last thing he expects is for Doog's world to merge with his own! But a chance touch in the corner of a cartoon eye, and poof! suddenly Doog is out of the computer, on Jeremy's desk, his red hair shining impossibly brightly and his eyes twinkling whimsically. Jeremy and his friends are utterly taken with Doog and, later, with Uncle Wom, the leader of Cartoon Land, who follows Doog out of the computer to retrieve him. Uncle Wom is clear to express the dangers of traveling between the worlds, warning Jeremy to be wary of prying eyes on the computer screen. Uncle Wom and Doog tell Jeremy and his friends about the Mischief-Makers and their leader, Dab, the evil ape-bird feared by everyone in Cartoon Land. Under no circumstances, Uncle Wom asserts, must Dab be released from the world behind the computer screen.

Unfortunately, Jeremy's father isn't around to heed this warning. Arthur inadvertently releases Dab and his followers from the computer and immediately, Dab seeks to put his evil plan into action: to take over Orange Computer, and then take over all the computers all over the world, giving him ultimate power and control over the human race. It will take a whole team of humans and good Toonies, including the help of a "Wise Old Zen," to defeat Dab and his followers and restore order both to Silicon Valley, and to Cartoon Land.

THE TOONIES INVADE SILICON VALLEY is, at its core, a story of good vs. bad. But you've never read a more creative take on that popular theme, I guarantee it! In Betty Dravis' world, "good vs. bad" becomes Doog vs. Dab, and the warriors are cartoons. From the first page to the last, TOONIES is pure entertainment, a joy to read. The text is accompanied by beautiful illustrations, serving to bring Dravis' characters and world even more to life. The prose is lively, and the descriptions are brilliant -- bright and dazzling and evocative of something magical. Dravis brings a world of color to a page of black and white, and her warmth and genuineness shine through in her writing. Deeply interwoven in the story is a larger theme of the importance of family. In a world where moral values are often overlooked, Dravis has written a novel that supports the good things in life: family, love, courage, fellowship. TOONIES is a book for both kids and adults to read and reread with fondness. The characters, human and toonie alike, are ones you'll want to keep coming back to again and again.

THE TOONIES INVADE SILICON VALLEY is a rewarding, fun, dazzling and wholesome book. I recommend it completely, for kids from 1 to 99!

Already a cult classic!

Three cheers for Betty Dravis!

Combining the elements and themes of a classic fantasy with freshly imagined characters in a thoroughly modern setting, the author has created an engaging children's story that will hopefully become a series. I have to believe that most children in this computer-driven age would really get into this "animated" book. Parents will appreciate the message and underlying values.

(I'd love to take my grandchildren to see the Toonies movie!)

I liked The Wind Blows Backward a lot, its one of my favorites, a classic realistic fiction book about a love story, I normally don't like love stories, but this one has action in it too, and it makes it interesting.
A girl named Lauren who didn't have a lot of friends, just a few, was in love with a jock named Spencer. Lauren and Spencer were friends throughout middle school, but lost touch in high school.
Spencer got in touch with Lauren and started to date her. Because secretly they both loved each other.
One night, Spencer had tried to do something terrible to himself because of his past life, which put him in shock trauma in the hospital.
Everybody knew something was wrong with Spencer, they just didn't know what. What could have been wrong with Spencer that led him to try and possibly kill himself?
Find out for yourself by reading this book The Wind Blows Backward, it's a great story and is interesting all the way through, I recommend this book to everyone who loves love stories but more so of action, you would want to read this book. I loved this book a lot it will definitely go on my top list of favorite books that I've read, if you read it too, I bet you would say the exact same.

This book made me feel things I hadn't felt in a long time.I had always thought my favorite book was a book serise(sp) by Lisi Harrison. My best friend found this book a few years ago in 5th grade. She let me read a few lines in the book and I thought they were intresting. We're in 7th now I finally got to read it.I felt the world around me disappear as I read through the book nonstop for hours on end. This book made me realize what I've been hideing from everyone else my whole life and that I've been depressed for years. But I also realize most of my friends are that way and we can work through it.I grew up with out both my mother and father to be there for me so I can relate to Lauren and Spencer in this book.Out of 1 to 5 stars I give this books 10000000000.I cried so hard when Spencer rode away on the motorcycle, drunk from champaigne, leaveing Lauren to chase after him in the pouring rain.I can't tell you how much tissue I used reading this book.I'm reading again and am almost finished with it.I'll probably read it 10 times before I have to return it to the library.I hope they make this book into a movie,me friend and I would see it the second it came out and she'd laugh at how emotional i am,she always does. She can't really ever understand why people are different. But oh well.I highly recoment this book be read by the entire world!!!!!!!!!

The one day during senior year Jake walks in the library with his girlfriend and was looking for a book for their english class and he starts talking to lauren. As the weeks pass though Lauren can tell Jake is hiding somthing. It turns out When Jake was a little kid his father commited suicide and has carried that with him all these years because no one knows he knew that he knew the truth about his fathers death. As the story continues Lauren and Jake struggle with their relationship and wonder if their love is strong enough to keep Jake from making the same mistake his father did.

The Wind Blows Backward
By: Mary Downing Hahn

Lauren is shy, insecure, and smart. What could she possibly want with the big man on campus, Spencer? Better yet, what would he want with her? Still recovering from their unexpected split as friends in middle school, Lauren wonders whether or not to let Spencer back in. Spencer struggling with his own dark past presses his emotional feelings on Lauren. Will they stay strong or fall apart due to Spencer's dark moods? Mary Downing Hahn brings such a realness and life to the characters in such a way you relate to them almost instantaneously and you feel like they relate to you. If you love suspense, love, tragedy, and teen angst, then The Wind Blows Backward is the book for you. I recommend it to anyone who wants something they can relate to and can't put down.

Cold, dark and disturbing is a perfect way to begin a ghost story. Throw in some love, family, humor and romance and you have a best seller on hand. (If it is done correct and tastefully). The cemetery fence was done very tastefully. You grow more and more attached to the lovable characters in each chapter. The odd events of a ghostly and supernatural matter make it a worthwhile and suspensful journey. I agree with others who loved trifecta of suspense even more than the cemetery fence. It has a better format and two extra hair raising stories.
a great read.

Poor Fireheart. His beloved leader is losing faith in StarClan, her warriors and her trusted deputy. He can't decide what to do. When i read this book, i figured Fireheart was losing faith in Bluestar. The suspense picks up when the ThunderClan cats chase the dog pack to the gorge. Tigerstar tries to keep Fireheart at bay so the dogs can kill him. But Bluestar rescues him and loses her last life in the process. Mistyfoot and Stonefur morn for their mother and in the end, Bluestar regains her faith. Fireheart is heartbroken. He believes that he can't do anything without the help of Bluestar. But he accepts his new position. I always cry at the end when Bluestar dies, but I'm happy in the end because i know that Fireheart will become leader.

All of the Erin Hunter books are great! I just love them and have read them many times over. I am not a reader, I hate to read!!! But give me a Warrior series book and leave me alone for a few days. They are the best. Thanks Erin for opening up a new world for me.

this book was a very good read. i would highly reccomend the series to any cat lover. you should always read the books in order, and NEVER read the backs or the character lists of a book ahead of you!!!! I found out something that you will find out in book #6 when I was reading book #4. it kind of ruined book #5 in a way. This book is definately good

The book that I'm reviewing is Warriors: Into the Wild by Erin Hunter. There are thirteen books of Warriors, this is one of the four that books that I've already read. I didn't really like it. The best book that I've read was Warriors: Fire and Ice. If you're a person who likes action, drama, and mystery, this is the series for you.
Warriors are cats who live in the forest. The cats are divided in to five clans when their born. They're Thunderclans, Waterclans, Windclans, Shawdoclans, and Starclans. The clans are in big tribes, which means big protectors which are called warriors. Cats have to be seven moons old to be a warrior. The following names are in the book that I'm reviewing Fireheart, Rusty, Bluestar, Sandstorm, Cloudpaw, Yellowfang and Tigerclaw. There are so many more names in Warriors. The Warriors books are fun and exciting to read.

Indigo

I enjoyed this book very much. They primary characters, Galen & Hester(Indigo), were very likeable and endearing.

Galen was a member of the Creoles of Louisiana, he was somewhat estranged from that group, but still had minimal contact with them through his Aunt Racine. He was also involved with the Under Ground Railroad. This is how he and Hester met. Hester's house acts as a station for runaways.

Hester began her life as a slave on an indigo plantation. As a result her hands and feet are purple. She was brought to her Aunt's out of Slavery to the North. Galen is ambushed on one of his trips transporting runaways and winds up being hidden and taken care of by Hester. Hester is a 24-year-old single woman.

Again, as with all of Ms. Beverly works, you get a love story, with a little erotica, and a history lesson. This is not your typical romance novel.

The reason I give this book a four is for the following reasons:

Galen has purchased a house a short distance from Hester's. She drives herself to his house one night with her horse and buggy to discuss the establishment and funding of a school.

"Hester had no trouble driving the relatively short distance to the Folly(Galen's home) in the dark."

However, the following excerpt has her being driven home:

"Luckily for Hester, Maxi, returned, bringing with her the handsome Raymond LeVeq. He grinned at the brooding Galen, then crossed the room to where Hester stood. He bowed low. "Enchante Miss Wyatt, Maxi says you are in need a ride home."

#2 Early on Hester is told that Maxi was there when Galen was born. Later on the same question comes up, which has already been answered.

"Maxi's confident reply wiped away any misgivings Hester may have had over this surprising news. `How long have you been with Galen Maxi?' "

Galen's Tante(Aunt) Racine is a very important aspect of his life. He loves her dearly. Racine lives with her mama, who is a very rich, but difficult and bitter woman. Since at the age of majority, 18, Galen had access to his inheritance. He is free and no longer had to endure grandmama's constant put downs of his origin and his mama marrying outside of her class and a dark skinned man. The question for me is why couldn't he set up Aunt Racine in her own house and make her life better? He now feels that now that grandmere is dead, Aunt Racine is now free. What I gathered from the story that most folks in the family tolerated her, because they need her for financial support.

#3 Ginette is a Creole and was betrothed to Galen as a baby. However, she see him as a brother. However, later on in the story Ms. Beverly says something odd considering if you see a man as your brother. Again, there is some contradiction:

Ginette explains "Galeno and I would have never suited as man and wife. I love him very much, buy he's like a brother to me." Then on page she says "
Those are not very brotherly thoughts.

#4 Hester's ex-fiancée is described early on as being a kind and honorable man. Yet when we finally get to meet him in the book, he is totally the opposite. The vicious and mean spiritedness he directs towards Hester in completely inconsistent with this characterization.

I enjoyed all the cast of characters, i.e. Hester, Galen, Raymond LeVeq, Bea, Ginette, Renaud, Gail, Jenine, Foster, Shoe, the Sheriff, the house with all the secret compartments, etc. I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes a good story and a history lesson, with some steamy erotica. The story is well balanced and enjoyable. I loved it. I own most of Ms. Beverly's book. I know I will re-read not only Indigo, but all of her books. This is saying a lot. I don't buy romance novels.
If I am willing to buy a book and read it, then re-read it, I am hooked.

Love it. Love it!

Beverly Jenkins is awesome. Not only are her love scenes hot but you are given a wealth of historical knowledge regarding the reconstruction and subsequent jim crow period in our history. She is able to make you proud of our contributions and especially proud of our black men and the way they treat their families and women. She is great and the stories have plots that hold your interest and keep you wanting more.

Do as you say, and make me a believer....

Indigo was indeed a wonderful novel and I enjoyed reading every page. Reading this story made me want to hold on to the fact that true courtship/love still exists, and it will find you when you least expect it. I loved the way Dragon took it upon himself to make Hester feel completely assured and comfortable in him and her self. Because of situations beyond her control, Hester was left with a lifelong brand and unbeknownst to her, it would be that very imperfection that would become a loving moniker. A lesson in history and in love. There is triumph after every struggle, perserverence is key. Worth reading, you won't regret it.

I can't shake this book!

Beverly Jenkins' books are burning into my soul! I just can shake the stories. I would love to see Indigo and Through the Storm become a movie. How terrific would that be??? Galen is my hero and Hester (La Petite Indigo) is beautiful. I am definitely not a romance reader but my mother read Through the Storm first and after telling me the story, it was more like a history lesson. Needless to say, I have read this book and gone back and re-read the book many times over along with Through the Storm, Vivid, and Winds of the Storm. I love the story and I love how she creates strong, black, caring, affectionate men, she makes the brothers proud. I just want a whole series on the Vachons (Galeno and Hester) and the LeVeqs (Raimond and Sable, Archer and Zahra) and the Brats. I can't get enough. I have passed this book on to many of my friends (I owned two copies that I keep just for me) and they are all hooked on Beverly Jenkins now!!! I just need to know when is the mini-series coming to T.V. or the Big Screen. Tyler Perry, Oprah...we need some production on one of the most beautiful love stories ever written.

I love laying on beach reading christian fiction. This book made me get a sun burn! Be careful, you forget your surroundings and the next thing you know you have forgotten to reapply sunscreen. It's that good, you truly have trouble putting it down. I won't discuss the contents, if I start, I might ruin it for you. NO JOKE, A MUST READ!!!

Heartfelt, heartbreaking, and heartwarming!

This book will grab your heart and won't let go until long after you've read the last page, leaving fingerprints as a reminder of what matters most in life. You will breathe and bleed and cry for Reese and Emma ... Reese and Annie ... Reese and Charlie ... Reese and Cindy -- each pair sharing heart-healing actions with each other.

The book's messages arrive with felt force, like the resilient beat of a healthy heart, over and over and over ... reminding us that the heart offers redemption and renewal through an unknowable life-force that transforms as it purifies. Like the heart, this book has a pulse and a heartbeat that you will feel.

Read it and be moved, from smiles to sobs. Read it and be thankful for divine coincidence (also known as answered prayers ... that lead a heart surgeon to a lemonade stand and a girl who needs a new heart, that tease him out of grief and withdrawal to use his heartfelt, God-given gifts once again). Read it and shout, Hallelujah!

Where do I begin, our bookclub at Church read this book and it was the first time I read anything by Charles Martin. The book had me from the first page. I was mesmerized by the detail and research Charles put into the book. Saturday our bookclub went to Clayton, GA where the story took place, we ACTUALLY met and got our book signed as well as purchased his latest book. What a class act! He was so personable, honest and has a great memory for names.

We met at Persimmons discussed the book, took pictures and walked where the story began (Savannah and Main). Even took pictures of the cricket box outside of Reeves. We later had lunch on the Lake. It was a wonderful day for us all.

The book hit home in many areas, friendship, forgiveness, love and restoration. I'm personally using this author for Christmas gifts this year and looking forward to reading all his other books. You won't be sorry with this purchase, it's been a long time since I found fiction to be so inspirational! Thank you Charles, the pleasure of meeting you was ours.

Fabulous book. Very little do we see in life another opportunity for redemption. When Crickets Cry is a true page turner. If you love Charles Martins' other books then you will more than love this one. I read this and wanted to tell everyone else to read it. One of those rare gifts in literature that you want to hang on to forever. It was that great! I highly recommend this one.
