A warrior, a priestess, a golem and a vampire walked into a bathhouse.

Then they got sent to the Vatican, for where else would a vampire learn Light magic. The 350 year old immortal warrior is a mammary man, the young priestess is annoying, the golem, is, well, a stony personality. The vampire does what he likes.

Too Much + Too Soon = Too Confusing
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 2003-05-02
The 1998 Middle School Math book, Course 1 just tries too hard, and ends up being a big mish mash of confusion.

I believe the authors tried so hard to make the math program relevant and interesting that they forgot their audience: children who don't know what the authors are talking about! The authors give detailed and confusing examples about basic math concepts without first clearly and SIMPLY explaining the concepts themselves.

Instead of presenting a concept and gradually working up to more complex problems, the authors present a concept, and then jump about 12 steps ahead and give confusing problems right off the bat. Perhaps the authors think this approach encourages thinking and excitement on the part of the student. From what I have seen, instead, the students end up confused and discouraged.

The basic structure of the book is great (i.e. chapter headings, and general flow), but the content is overwhelming, too detailed and confounding.

Simplify your terms if you expect the children to actually learn anything!

And do we really need pages about web sites and blood types in the middle of a confusing math book?

Having listened to Mr. Williams over the years, I hoped his tome would reflect various lessons and impart his enduring wisdom. It did not; this book was more his biography than anything else. It was entertaining and there were of course some items one could appreciate, but overall if you want to see how he became the engaging person he is today, this is an easy read. If you want his admirable radio-show advice, this book is not a good choice.

I have not seen one bit of bias in this book. It reads to me very fairly balanced and objective. Where is all of the stuff that the anti-Clintonites are jumping on (Hillary is a mean leftist/socialist, this book is proof!)? Where is all of the stuff that the Clintonites are yelling UNFAIR! (The portrayal of Hillary is disgusting and mean, it's obvious that the author is biased against Hillary!) about? It's just -not- there. I don't see how describing Hillary's childhood the way the author does is anything but even-handed, though one may read into everything as Hillary being an overachiever (the author never states that outright, but from the list of accomplishments, that's what MY mind says to me; but also, since when is it BAD to be an overachiever?).

If your brain is not hotwired to overreact towards stretches of the imagination, then you'll find this biography a decent read about a fascinating woman with facts about her childhood, upbringing, personal and political life to be absorbed and deferred to whenever you hear a mention of Hillary's character in the current election cycle news. She does NOT descend from a wealthy family, she is NOT a bad person. Don't buy into the political hype (and certainly don't buy into the extreme hype of the reviewers here). It is way too obvious that the people leaving reviews are not at all fair people (be they Obamatrons, wingnuts or just plain vulgar people).

Picked up this audio cassette edition in a remainder bin for $5, and thought I was swindled...

The author clearly wants to work a policy agenda, which disagrees a lot with Hillary's position on a wide variety of issues. An especially recurring theme is Hillary's position on family issues; the author would assert that Hillary wants the state to raise children and not mothers and fathers.

That being said, there is a lot of stuff in this book which, if halfway true, does form an image of Hillary as a post-hippie policy wonk who has a powerful intellect and strong will. I do think that, nearing the age of 60, Hillary has outgrown a lot of the viewpoints and beliefs attributed to her in this book.

And, as others here have said, this book is a scandalmongering exercise, but, well, we must educate ourselves on the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, right? If this is as bad as anyone can possibly paint her, I'd say she's electable...

Not necessarily a Hillary fan but........

I could not even finish the book. The negativity in virtually every chapter oppressed my soul. I wanted facts and to gain some knowledge about Hillary, and all I got was nausea. Milton's bias was oozing from every page. The information was second, third, and fourth hand, unsubstantiated, and based on assumptions and innuendo. It was like reading a tabloid that went on for over 400 pages. Milton spent too much time explaining what Hillary thought and what all of her "ulterior motives" were for virtually everything she has done in her life thus far. Did she know Hillary's inner thoughts by osmosis or through some Vulcan mind meld? Come on! Don't buy it, don't even check it out from the library. I would have given it a negative 5 rating, but that was not an option. A complete and utter waste of paper and ink.

I got this book used and thought it would be interesting to read after the fact of HRC's moving on to other things. Without a doubt I believe the Clinton administration was filled with lies, deceit and well, just plain politics. This book is a discredit to thoughtful readers. I've only thrown away a handful of books in my life and this is one of them.

Exhaustively researched, but horribly biased

I bought this biography because I have always been fascinated with Hillary Rodham Clinton's role in her husband's administration. I was hoping for an objective look at her contributions to policy, instead, this novel is full of acrimonious allegations and innuendo. It seems that the author is completely unable to separate HRC the person from her politics. This book is horribly slanted and I would not recommend to someone who truly desires insight into either one of the Clintons.

I used this books to teach around 35 students in a coporate environment. I didn't see any problems with it. I liked the looks of it; color and pictures make it interesting! There may have been one or two little errors, but nothing major that I saw. My adult students liked the book and are using it as a reference.

my school was selling this book (spiral-bound) in a package deal along with Computers Are Your Future for the ridiculous price of $134.00. This book, which doesn't feature the spiral bound convienience (who really cares?) was not even $40.00, along with the other that I found for $45.00. I'll take $85.00 any day over $134.00. Shipping was a little delayed, but that's ok :)

Ok. First thing first, THIS BOOK REQUIRES A LIC. KEY WHICH (at this time) IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE SEPARATELY. I know, I called Prentice Hall, and while they sell Lic. keys for some of their other books, they don't for this book.

You will not be able to log on to the website to take the tests. Lic. keys are not renewable, so if you have a used textbook, the lic. key won't work!

I made the mistake of buying this book used and ended up having to spend more money buying the new textbook. If you do buy this book used (for personal use, I guess) make sure it has the 3-cds which are supposed to come with the book. The vendor did not mention or include the 3 Cds.

Beware

This text has several problems:

1. Beware the redundancy and the small nuances of incorrectness. Certain information is not specific nor entirely accurate.

2. Beware the tediousness. It takes a LONG time to get through the projects, especially if one is experienced with the program all together.

3. Watch out for instructors who will use this book but have little computer experience. They are usually unable to follow the complicated instructions and it can be frustrating to both students and the instructor.

4. And just for those of us who have been using computers since they were born; it's rather easy to not have to read the instructions for projects once one gets the hang of it. Also, the finished product pictures inappropriately at the start of each unit help as well.

Stay away!!!

This is a rip off!! Instructors use this ONCE so there are no buy backs. Gaskin will make her profit and the students are paying!! refuse to buy, or form a co-op like my class did!

I would give zero stars if possible!

Great Inspiration

Review Date: 2008-01-05
unlike the other reviewers, i actually found this book to be quite inspiring. there's a ton of beautiful pictures of what you can do if you have a lot of money. in my opinion, it's not how much money you have but how you use it that matters. this is quality over quantity here and if you just want to look like everyone else, don't buy this, just go to the mall and see what the shops there are doing.

the idea that you have to jam pack as much stuff as possible in your store in order to be successful is outdated and frankly, just plain silly. i would much rather go into a store that was well edited then to a store that looks like the owner barfed up a bunch of product on the walls, floor, and ceiling - you name it. these stores personally make me want to leave - visual overload!

so, if you are looking for what "could be" than this book is right for you - but if what you want is store with more product than floor space, look somewhere else... the title does it justice - the INSPIRED retail space. other books of note are "hip interiors" and "hip entertaining" both which i highly recommend for great inspiration.

Not relavent for most businesses

This book is basically just a picture book of expensive stores most of us can't afford to shop in (the ones with 2 pairs of shoes on one entire wall, and 3 items on fancy hangers on the other wall). Most of the displays are designed so specifically around the products so it's difficult to even use the pictures as inspitration for different types of merchandise.

We got much more inspiration from the book "Store Presentation & Design" by Vsiual Reference Publications.

Not what I expected.

This book was a dissapointment for me. I don't have an unlimited budget for store design and most of the businesses featured in this book clearly did. There are a few exceptions to this in the book, but if you're a small business looking for ideas to freshen up your store, I would not recommend this book.

This Kindle version is nicely edited and includes chapter and sub-chapter navigation. I noticed that the other customer review quoting 'no navigation' was for another Kindle edition of the King James Bible, and for some reason in error the customers comment is showing up on this items page.

I recommend you to read Amazon Kindle The Definitive Guide - Includes Kindle tricks accessing Google GPS Maps, play games, how to email attachment files free of charge, also a complete list of Kindle user keyboard shortcuts which will help you get the most out of your Kindle.

No table of contents

Review Date: 2008-03-01
The main problem here, is that there is no Table of Contents in this Kindle Version. On the Yahoo Group Kindle Korner - someone actually took the King James version and made a great and free Kindle version with a TOC. This version has no TOC so finding your way around it, takes forever. You'll have to bookmark each chapter... good luck with that. I simply use this version to do key word lookups. for that it's very useful.

Price Is Wrong
Helpful Votes: 19 out of 21 total.
Review Date: 2001-05-13
The author in this "study" readily admits that he is not a fan of game shows and obviously Price Is Right in particular as every facet of this show is slammed harshly, including the host on a personal level. To do so, in what is supposedly a balanced study on Price's effect on American society ,deems the whole book invalid. To judge the show harshly by only viewing 31 episodes from 1991 of over 5500 and still taping is absurd. The author would have better served the reader if interviews were conducted with both present and former contestants noting the similarities or differences throughout the shows thirty year existence. Also interviews with the producers and host would have offered better insights. Unfortunately, all the reader receives is a long winded ,highly snobbish, opinionated review of ones personal bias towards the show. The lack of ANY researchable data on the authors part and lack of any research in general (lack of interviews, statistical data etc.), one can only conclude that this tome was a wasted ill-advised excercise. If you're a fan of the show or the game show genre you will be severely disappointed. If you are looking for an accurate reflection of how Price mirrors and reflects society, you'll be offered a one-sided ,highly negatively biased account. I honestly cannot recommend this book to any reader and if possible would not give the book ANY rating due to its lack of research and seemingly highly personally biased agenda.
