Good, but could be better.

First off, major kudos to the reader of this series. He does a great job of changing his voice to separate the characters and keeping the mood of the series. The sound effects were decent as well. They did a pretty good job with the abridgment, unfortunately they cut out many of the little things that made the originals great instead of just good. Anyone new to the series wont notice a thing and us veterans can add the missing paragraphs and ocasional chapter ourselves. With 2 more voice actors, a little better sound effects and the full text this would have been a great buy... As it is, it's still a good series that you can spend a long time listening to.

With this book Stackpole concludes the invasion of the Clans.
The final confrontation between Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht of ComStar and ilKhan Ulric, along with Kai and Deirdre getting in love with each other (FINALLY!although it requires
almost half a year in the wilderness),only to break up again.
I LOVED the fact that SOMEONE puts an end to Romano Liao's life
(the whacko had started to get on my nerves),and Victor and Galen.......oh,well you'll see. This book, alongside with the rest of the 'Blood of Kerensky'trilogy is impossible to put down!I,personally, finshed the trilogy in two weeks. It is , simply the best of the best.READ IT!

Lost Destiny has an extremely compelling storyline. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down, reading until 1 AM from 10 PM, then finishing the next evening! (At that point, I was waaaaay tired). If you're a true BattleTech fan, then you've read this. If not, GET YOUR HANDS ON IT!!!

The book is enthralling!

The book is very good. I learned alot about the clans byreading this book. The glossary is very good. The book even includes a map to pinpoint the worlds mentioned. The BTech universe is brought to new heights with this book. The drama was good, and Romano Liao's death was an interesting twist. All in all, a must read.

Review Date: 2007-09-03
William Keith's RETIEF'S PEACE presents yet another Retief story of the diplomat who returns to action to thwart invaders and dangers to Terran diplomats. Retief may even face being expelled from the Corps for his efforts - but those who would thwart him find him even more deadly operating outside the law...

I had my doubts when this pistache appeared, but I am now a true believer. It is the original Retief back. If you have ever read Laumer's Retief you will love it. If not you will discover a new love and likely end up buying all the originals.

On planet B'ruckley in the Shamballa Cluster, the protests for peace are growing though the natives are not involved except as observers. The local diplomatic corps wants to make no waves against the Peace Movement that could cost a careerist their job and pension even as the evidence grows that this group wants theTerrans to leave.

Second Assistant Deputy Undersecretary of the Corps Diplomatique Terrestrienne Jame Retief finds the reaction of the Terran Diplomats normal as a bureaucrat's first job is to save one's flank. He has major concerns over the concept of leaving this plant without protection from alien invaders as the Peace Movement demands. Retief begins to make inquiries to determine who stands to gain the most if the seemingly innocent student protestors succeed and the Terrans depart until he concludes that the feral Krll want this orb without any real opposition. His peers need him out of the way so they can save their butts, but that will not stop Retief.

William H. Keith captures the essence of Keith Laumer's Retief in this fine satirical action-packed science fiction thriller. The story line is fast-paced, but owned by Retief who employs his own methods to insure the job is done correct. His understanding of the Terrans is priceless especially in light of what has happened with the hurricane though in the latter case the politicos and their appointees at all levels failed leading to CYA with bush league comments of not me - the others screwed up. RETIEF'S PEACE is a strong deep outer space entry in a wonderful series that timely highlights the objectives of the top layers of the bureaucracy within a mano a Krll confrontation.

This book is all silliness and satire. Retief is the very capable straight man in a world of send-ups of various stereotypes.

If puns don't offend you, you may well enjoy this book. It certainly made me smile.

WHEN THE CONQUERED REVOLT

As the Terran Commonwealth expanded the borders of the interstellar territories it controlled, an alien race which had once ruled the spaceways was forced to yield control of much of their own star empire. But they had never been fully conquered, and they would never cease trying to undermine the Commonwealth's power.

So when Commonwealth diplomats and the command officers of the Terran Fifth Foreign Legion gathered in the capital city of the world to meet with local ruler, no one suspected the trap they were walking ino. Even as assassins' fire claimed their lives, native forces initiated a simultaneous attack on the partially completed Fifth Foreign legion fortress. And the ranking surviving officer at the fort led his troops on an impossible march through the heart of the enemy territory, fighting every step of the way in a last-ditch effort to reach their main base - or die in the attempt.

One of the BEST.

This is a superb book. I've read this at least 4 times. The story-line was riveting. A military force 1,500 kilometers behind enemy lines and surrounded on all sides. Although they had a technological edge in weaponry, it was their spirit and determination that won the day. As the Foreign Legion's motto said, "If you stand, then stand with courage. If you die, do it with honor!" The only regret that I have is that there is only 3 novels in this series. I hope the author writes more!

For any fan of the classic Battletech universe, this is essential reading. Patrick Kell's "wife", the reason Tormano Liao split for exile in the Federated Suns, and a once-a-decade interview with then-Major Natasha Kerensky, the "Black Widow" her very own self.

It's worth it for the art. Almost every piece of art FASA ever used for everything from novel covers to miniatures boxes is there, an easy way to replace all the stuff you hung on your wall and Mom trashed when you left home.

This is a very good read if you can find it. Quite a few short stories from William Keith, Michael Stackpole, and other authors. The stories are well written and entertaining. You can often find this on ebay and get it for a relatively decent price.

I managed to find a copy of this book a few years ago and I think it is worth all the money I spent on it. It is a compilation of short stories by some Battletech novelists such as Michael A. Stackpole and William H. Keith, and also some other authors such as Bear Peters, Mark O. Green and others. The short stories are of excellent quality, especially Stackpole's, Keith's and Peters' works. With this book being published in 1988, it details the time of the Third to the Fourth Succession Wars. Artwork taken from the covers of the early Battletech novels, scenario packs, sourcebooks, blueprints, technical readouts and some original ones can be found throughout the book. All in all, this is one is as valuable as lostech if you ever want to ask Amazon.com to search for it. For those of you who have the patience for this order, you will be rewarded with stories that detail the unexpected bits of life and death in the Inner Sphere.

This is one of the best 'MECH' books I have ever read. No, make that THE best. The author has created a battlefield that is the most convincing and realistic I have ever read, with the possible exception of Jerry Pournells 'Prince of Mercenaries' series. One drawback...The cover is lame.

What Battletech was built on!

While this book might not crack the top 10 for many people, it's my all time favorite! Now I must admit that I am a fan of Battletech before FASA sold the rights, but this book was a large reason why.

The second book about Grayson Carlyle and The Gray Death Legion, this book is where the Gray Death Legion is really formed and Carlyle's character develops into something special. William H. Keith Jr. paints some very colorful and entertaining characters that grow on you so fast that you'll hit emotional highs and lows as they train and suffer through this Kurita held planet's rebellion.

A must read for any fan of Battletech, even those new to the game. While it's built in a time than Wizkid's version of Battletech this is what the original game was all about. Give it a try as it's well worth a shelf all it's own.

I only wish this book could have made it to the big screen. I imagine the opening scene of Bannockburn (a Riflemen Mech) standing within the jungle in camo paint as a couple of fighters screeching overhead. Then all hell breaks loose...

Happy reading and good hunting!

A "keep-on-reading" tale about the Gray Death Legion

The Gray Death Legion, a mercenary group formed by Grayson Death Carlyle, takes on its first assignment -- to train rebels on a Draco world in anti-mech tactics. But when their way off the planet is destroyed, they must ally with the untrusting natives to free the capital city, the only way off the planet. Personally, I found this book very entertaining. It deals with freedom, loyalty, and life. This story will keep you reading way into the wee hours of the night. A must for any Battletech reader!

In this exciting "Twilight 2000" module, the players learn that a radical group living in the Ozark region of the United States have captured an airship and are using it to wreac havoc on the countryside. This entertaining module provides information about the Ozarks region, the bandits, and several different encounters. As a GM, I used this module with my gaming group, and it was very entertaining. I highly recommend this module for T-2000 players and GMs. There is enough encounters to create an entire campaign within the Ozarks region. Will the bandits succeed? Play this module and let your gaming group decide.

After I heard about this book I had to purchase it. The reading was very basic, and depending upon the childs age he or she could read it on his or her own. The pictures really catch your attention, and the lesson is simple yet practical. I recommend this book for new parents, parents whose children like disney type products, and for those who are interested in good healthy practices for your children.

My only recommendation would be for the book to be available on hardcover. Paperback has the tendency of getting water damage especially when following the instructions with this type of book.

Overall it is a keeper that is why I want it in hardback:-)
