I read this book for the first time in the 6th grade, and now, 20 years, later, it is still as hilarious as ever. All ages can enjoy this wonderfully funny book! If you like to laugh, then give "I Want to Go Home" a try. You won't be disappointed!

I've probably read this book about 20 times (over the past 20 years) and it never gets old. So many funny characters and situations. It's kind of surprising it never got made into a movie, but maybe the camp movie genre is already saturated.

If you haven't read it already, it's worth the time and effort to hunt down a copy of this book.

I had this book when I was a kid. I lent it to my friend and never saw it again. It was my favorite book, and I wanted a copy for my boys. I just rolled with laughter when I read it as a child, and when I read it with my wife and kids, they did the same thing. It is a shame this book is out of print, because kids love it. You will not be disappointed.

I am an adult, and I adore his books. If you are looking at buying something for kids who don't like to read, something like this should get them hooked!

This is one graet book! It is about a boy named Rudy Miller, who is not very socialized, being sent away to summer camp. He does not take part in any sports, though he is a true Olympic champion back at home. He meets a shy friend, Mike Webster, who is a very bad liar, unfortunatly! With Mike as his companion, Rudy plans a million ways that he could escape this summer camp he dreads. In class, our teacher read "I Want to Go Home" to us. It was hilarious reading about Rudy and Mike's impossible escapes! Read this great story about Chip, the cabin councsiller, Harold, a mean campmate, Pierre, the arts and crafts teaacher, and of course, Rudy and Mike! You will love it!!!

The Truth for Girls is like the "All I needed to know I learned in Kindergarten" poems, but written in a new and fun format. Remembering what it was like when you were a kid is a great way to help you be a better parent. I can see any gender getting benefit from this book.

It seems in our overscheduled, hyperspeed, time pressed world we lose our inner child more quickly. How refreshing a viewpoint that while at the center of exploring her universe, "our girl" pledges not to forget herself. Would that we all could promise the same! The struggles to reconcile thinking and feeling combine beautifully with physical and emotional development. A masterpiece of simplicity in childhood wisdom....a gem for those who have been or are children AND those who have been or are parents.

At first glance, The Truth (I'm a girl, I'm smart and I know everything) might not hook the reader at first. It might seem presumptuous, arrogant and even unbelievable. However, upon further reading, some of what the fictitious twelve year old rings true. It's very difficult for parents, siblings, teachers, and other adults to sit down and listen to a pre-teen. It never occurs to some adults that pre-teens give a lot of thought to what they see, hear, and experience. In this particular twelve year old journal, the girl is a keen observer of what takes place before her eyes and ears.

When I was a parent, I was warned to be careful of my actions, words, and deeds. I was told that "young people have big pitchers." In this case, big pitchers meaning that young people often see and hear a lot more than an adult or a parent gives them credit or would admit to. The girl here tells you what bothers her and why it bothers her. She makes a sincere effort to tell the reader what she would like to see happen, if only for a brief moment. This twelve year old takes nothing for granted. Because of her parent's arguments, because of her teacher's insincerity, and because of her own admittance of how things ought to be, she exposes the truth at all levels.

I encourage all parents to read this book with their kids. I recommend to all teachers that they assign this book to their class, and then discuss it afterwards. Life is too short to keep repeating century old garbage. Wouldn't it indeed be lovely if the cycle of guilt, shame, and emotional manipulation be put aside, and a brave new world is inserted in its place. Think of what that would mean to adults...parents...grandparents...and kids alike.

When I looked up Darryl Brock to see Havana Heat, I was thrilled to see that If I Never Get Back was rated 5 stars by *SO* many people. So I'm adding my own rave.

I read a library copy of this book shortly after it was published. I loved it so much that I immediately bought my own copy and some extras to give away. I even wrote a fan letter to Darryl Brock, who wrote back and included some cartoons & other items that were apropos to the story.

I love the entire book, but want to add special mention about the last page or 2. The ending is unique and charming and absolutely perfect. I can't help but smile whenever I think about it.

The book is like a grown-up fairy tale based on an actual historic era. If this appeals to you, READ THIS BOOK!!

"If I Never Get Back" by Darryl Brock has something enjoyable for everybody. It's a historical novel with adventure,danger,action,humor,fantasy and romance, but will be especially loved by those who love time travel and baseball(and train enthusiasts as well). You'll go back in time and escape to a time with no electricity,phones, credit cards, TV, radio or cars, but in the just post civil war era of 1869, there was our National Pastime - Baseball.

Sam Fowler does not start out as the most likeable character. He's a drinker,has a bit of an anger management problem, and is brooding over the separation from his beloved little girls due to a messy divorce. On top of that he has just been notified of the death of his own absentee father(no great loss to Sam) but has the dubious job of burying him.
The boozing had led Sam to "milky" periods where things are just not quite in focus. While at the train station on his way back from dealing with his father, he is having one of his episodes and falls into unconsciousness. He awakes on the same platform but things are quite different. He hops the train - some old classic - and finds himself aboard with one of the first pro ball teams - The Cincinnati Red Stockings.

Not knowing at first, if he is hallucinating or just having a bad day, he eventually comes to realize he has somehow gone back in time and forms a relationship with the team. He travels with this extraordinary group of young men and becomes a big part of their world.On his transcontinental travels- using the early RR system, horse and buggys, etc)there is one adventure after another. He falls in love with a woman he feels a deep connection, gets in hot water with some real toughs who are after him throughout, befriends the great Mark Twain, has a spiritual connection with an apparition,and plays baseball 19th century style - a might rougher and faster then today's version of the game. He's even involved in a shoot out in a poker game in a western saloon! While searching for the reason he is there(an enjoying the change of pace quite a bit), he becomes a new man. One we can't help but cheer for as his life is in danger at so many turns.

The book is a page turner. You can't help but become attached to Sam and the boys. Brock puts you right there in the 19th century, with remarkable detail of each city,the trains,food,clothes,dress,etc and through Sam we are living the life of someone who has gone back over a hundred years(this book was published in 1990, so there are even more differences now!).The Civil War plays a small but integral part of the story too. And then there is Baseball - we are treated to a real look at how the game was played, and feel the intensity with which they played.Even then, the game was popular and the players heroes. But think of never seeing them play unless you were fortunate enough to actually be at a game.

I for one was having such a great time, I hoped he would never get back! Baseball, apple pie,old trains, wonderful colorful characters...and a refreshing look at historical America....enjoy!.....Laurie

I first read this in high school. I reread it recently and am happy to say that is still one my top favorite books.

This is a book I've read several times. I'd like to know where Mr. Brock found out so much about Charlie sweazy, Asa Brainard et al, to make these characters come alive the way they do. There were a few political issue editorials Darryl brought into the story. But these surely do not detract from the book. I wish I had Andy Leonard as a brother as well.
You will hate to see the end of this book as it is entertaining(and historically accurate) from first page to last. As I said earlier, it's my favorite baseball book and one of my favorite of any genre.

This is one of the greatest baseball novels ever written. If you like baseball,time travel,romance and "rooting for the good guys" this is a book that will never get old. I'm sorry they never made a movie if it. However I doubt Hollywood could do it justice. Superb!!!!!!!!!!

I love this book and recommend it. It is an easy read, but more importantly the book touches on the basics of persuasion and gives the reader a better understanding of how, where, and what to focus on in order to be persuasive. Truly enjoyable book!

5 A.M. & Already Behind

As a physician I see the result of years of trial and error with people trying to get somewhere in their lives by doing the same thing.

Dave Lakahni's book is about common sense and teaches the skills that people need to communicate both verbally and physically. It shows a wonderful understanding of an art that is logical and usable.

Everyone who has barriers should read this book!

I finished this fantastic book during a three hour flight across country. It is that good. Dave Lakhani writes in style that draws yyou in and keeps you interested. If it sounds like I am reviewing a fiction title it should, the book reads that well.

I have an extensive persuasion library and this book is in my top three. If you read, studied and applied what is in this book you will amaze yourself with what you can accomplish.

I am overwhelmed by the content of the book and the kind of new thought process I am experiencing. The outlook has changed a lot especially because of the kind of work I am doing (Online Marketing). There were few changes I made immediately, specially adding the word "curious" as I could feel how this would work when applied on me.

There is so much that can be written about the way book can influence your work specially in the field of marketing, but don't forget the difference between Manipulation and Persuasion before you apply the principle in your real life, with friends, families, acquaintances as the principle are effective in these areas as well.

In one sentence, this book has the "the basic principles of survival" that has not been discussed so deeply till now.

I love this pop-up book and have given many copies as gifts to special people. I recently bought another one to give to a very special family this coming Christmas. I treasure all of Robert Sabuda's special books. I also buy his pop-up Christmas cards and all-occasion cards.

Spectacular Pop-ups, beautifully done, very intricate. Most pages have two separate pop-ups. I will enjoy reading this to my grandchild and we will marvel together at the scenes that magically unfold before our eyes. Not suitable for handling by toddlers without adult supervision because, as with all pop ups, the pages can be torn easily by exuberant little hands!

Once again, Robert Sabuda has created a wonderful visual masterpiece based on Clement Clarke Moore's classic tale of The Night Before Christmas. It delights the child in all that open the cover, each page brings new surprises. I'm a 6th grade resource and reading intervention teacher and all my students enjoyed the book, wanting to explore the pages again and again. At home, toddlers to great-grandmothers have enjoyed it. I highly recommend that you add this work of art to your holiday collection.

I purchased this book to read and show to my grandchildren. They love pop up pictures. It brings the story to life. A book you want to pass on down the family.

When I was a child my father went to Vietnam. My father sent this book to my mother as a gift. I always read it when I was a child. My father signed the book for my mother when he was overseas. It was a book my mother treasured. Well I'm grown up now and this book is a part of my heart. When I first met my husband I bought this book for him on Sweetest Day. I always told him "I like you." and I got many phrases from this book. He couldn't figure it out until I bought the book and now he treasures it. It is such a wonderful book. Friends or Lovers. I so recommend it and it will be a part of my life!! Please enjoy this book no matter who you are!!

The illustrations are light-hearted and amusing, perfectly suiting the text which expresses so many things one thinks about friendship but perhaps never said. I bought copies for some friends and all my grandchildren, too.

I have given this book to all my grandchildren and also close friends. It expresses those feelings that bring people together, family, and friends forever.

I had this book when I was a little girl and recently re-discovered it. I have bought copies to carry with me and give to friends. I have read it to my children and to my husband. It's terrific and timeless.

This book is very reminiscent of "Praise Habit" written by musician David Crowder, where Crowder uses very cleverly the double meaning of the outward expression of Giving GOD Praise in every possible way, and the use of the word "Habit" as the hat worn by saintly women. "Worship as a way of Life" is done here much in the same fashion. Some interesting encouragements given and some "Worship" clarifications which make this an overall pleasant & instructional worth-while book to read.

Louie Giglio's book brings home the biblical concept that the life of a New Testament Christian is to be an ongoing act of worship, not simply the singing of a song and a prayer on Sunday morning. Giglio develops the point well, building the case that everyone worships something...the question is, what do you worship? God? God's blessings? Or Yourself?

Highly recommended to anyone trying to understand what worship is.

This is great little book that helps us dive deeper into what worship actually means. It's amazing to see Giglio show that we're all worshipers of something or someone...even if we don't realize it. When we direct our worship to God (our ascribing worth to God in everything we do), He gets more glory and we are joyfully satisfied in Him (Piper anybody?).

I highly recommend this book. I'm reading through it with a college worship leader training group that I lead. It's short and easy to read, making it a joy to read instead of feeling like homework from church (alongside their already heavy workload in school!). While it may be written in an easy-to-read style, the concepts held within will challenge your everyday life immensely. Worship Him with all your life!

Louie Giglio's book, The Air I Breathe, describes worship as a part of everyday life. We worship the things we value and get excited about. The god that we worship is evident from how we spend our time and money. At the end of every trail blazed by our time and money is a throne and on that throne is the "god" we worship. But, is the god we worship worthy of our praise? This is the primary question that Giglio raises.

I was drawn to Giglio's book the moment that I learned that he organized the Passion conference--an annual conference of Christian musicians. This conference has generated numerous CDs of praise music. The Best of Passion CD is one of my favorites.

The text for Giglio's books is Acts 17--Paul's visit to Mars hill. It is one the Bible's clearest statement of faith and the audience is a gathering of Greek intellectuals--agnostics. Paul notices that they have a statute where they worship an "unknown god". He then explains Christ as that unknown god.

Giglio's book is addressed to moderns and post-moderns who do not believe in God and do not think that they need God. It is short and very readable.

I found The Air I Breathe an inspiration. My have already lent my copy to a friend and have begun giving copies to people that I care about. I suspect that this book has brought people, especially teens, to faith in Christ. I highly recommend it.

After hearing Louie Giglio speak recently, I was interested to see what he had to write about worship. This little book is quite simple, but Louie's insights into what true worship is all about are quite profound. One could read this entire book in one sitting, but I found that I had to keep putting it down so that I could think about the content. Louie's definition of worship is probably the best I've ever seen.

Our entire worship team is going to read the book together as a guide to help us become better "lead worshipers".

I read the book in a few hours. It was pretty good for a book as fast paced as this. You got a feel for the characters.

I was truly engaged reading about Richard and Nina. I felt so bad for Richard all of the garbage he had to deal with, with his wife's family. Her mother RubyLee was a straight up trip. She took using people to a whole different level. Nina was a really nive kindhearted and caring person whose husband didn't realize what he had until she was gone. I was glad to see Nina working on her relationship with her daughter because it is so true how death could come knocking on your door without you having told the person that you love them or that you are proud of them. This story was well written with a solid ending.

Wonderful read!! I loved it from beginning to end! I could see myself (and my relationship) in this book. Maybe not so much the drama, but attempting to save something that may be already dead and yet, wanting something better out of life and love. Most romance novels are full of just sex -- Taken for Granted gave you just enough. Great job Earl Sewell. Please keep it up!

This book is a must read! The controlling mother-in-law is hilarious and cunning. So cunning and controlling that it cost her everything in the end. This is a book that makes you think and also keep people out of your relationship.

I don't know why it took so long for me to write a review for this book since I read it for the first time about a year ago. It's still fresh in my mind that I had a heart for Richard and his relationship with Nina. It is refreshing to read a "grown-up" novel. Not a novel where the chick (immature & materialistic) is a girlfriend (or if you are Nikki Turner...play wife)of a hustla/drug dealer...(not my reality).Taken for Granted is a wonderful story, filled with twists and turns and characters you are sure to love. My favorite...RubyLee. You gotta read her to understand her. Favorite portion of the story...two words: jet skis!!! Find out yourself what happens!

I have read your book and the way you have met adversity in your life is so admirable and inspiring. You, to my eye, are like the phoenix who flew through the ashes. Although I do not have arthritis, I have made a lot positive changes in my diet in large measure due to your book.

I also got tested for food allergies in keeping with the recommendation in your book and now know to avoid peanuts and realize the signs of inflammation that I was experiencing and ignoring every time I ate them. However, since the testing that I had done was not extensive, I will at some point purchase and benefit from the results of the alcat which you recommend in your book and on your website. My understanding is that the alcat tests one not only for antibodies, but also for sensitivities to 150 foods.

Barbara, your book is such a comprehensive guide for people about all of the kinds of things they should know and can do to heal themselves physically, emotionally and spiritually.

I know someone with rheumatoid arthritis and someone with osteoarthritis. Have recommended your book to both of them.

Your book is a blessing to arthritis sufferers and it is so useful as well to those who just want to nurture themselves in the best, most health conscious ways. It contains proactive health tips for any health conscious individual who wants to be sure to consume healthy foods and avoid foods that cause inflammation in their bodies.

At age 30, after being a college athlete and in "perfect" health, my daughter was diagnosed with RA. We were devastated!! Two years later, she was on Enbrel, methotrexate and other meds for her condition--things looked pretty hopeless. After much research into the disease, we decided we wouldn't just sit around and let the disease take it's course. Researching on Amazon's site, we came across Barbara's book and thought it sounded too good to be true! After all, the rheumatologists were telling us there was no cure. We had nothing to lose but the price of the book, a little time and effort--but we had everything to gain if it did indeed work.

One year ago, we started with the fast that Barbara recommends and we were absolutely shocked with what happened. After 5 days, my daughter was completely without pain, swelling or any sign of RA. We were ecstatic!! Now, the problem was sustaining it! This proved to be the most difficult of the equation. We enlisted the help of a PA who was open to a different approach to the disease and (as Barbara suggested) was able to get food sensitivities completed. Remarkably, the list was extensive, but corn wasn't on it!! My daughter undertook a rotational diet and added many supplements to her daily diet. After a period of six months, she was able to come off Enbrel and methotrexate, but not all of her meds. However, though it is slow,we continue to make progress. This disease didn't happen overnight and will not be stopped overnight.

I believe we couldn't have done this without Barbara's guidance. Her book became our source of strength when we thought about giving up. It was precise, thorough, informative and most importantly--certain this could be done.

There are four other books which we have used in this journey. One, Breaking the Vicious Cycle, is also a must read. Three others, Probiotics Revolution, Children With Starving Brains and Healing the New Childhood Epidemics, are based on the theory of disease being gut related. The latter three books are significant in that they give good recommendations for nutrients to combat inflammation of the gut, which appears to play a large part in RA.

Book was very organized and as a result was clear. The format of explanation and then giving a plan of action was excellent. The only thing it needed to be a 5 Star was a little more humor.

A different theory at what causes arthritis, written by someone who generally cured herself. Talks a lot about food sensitivities that cause arthritis and how to figure out what your food sensitivity so you can avoid or reduce your expose thus feel better.

This author has figured out what causes many cases of arthritis. I have osteoarthritis and have been following her recommendations for about a month now. I can already tell a difference in the way I feel. If I cheat, I can really tell the difference the next day. I recommend this book.

There book is wonderful!!! Our only complaint is that the pages are a little thin so it has some creases in it from three toddlers playing with it.

My 2 y/o asks to read this every night before bed. We've had it for months now and she still loves it. A great story... very sweet!

I bought this book for our 18 month old daughter. It is probably better suited for 8 months and up, but it is still an adorable little book. Highly recommended.

My 19 month old son loves his new book! The text is short and he likes that he can predict it so easily. He knows what is coming next! He also thinks the pictures are hilarious, like when the boy has the bowl on his head. I recommend this book!

I absolutely love this book! The pictures and the rhyming text are so adorable. I love reading this to my son. It lets me share with him just how much I love him from the hair on his head right down to his toes. I would definitely recommend this book to any parent!
