I received this book as a gift from my friend who knows how much I like Sandra Kuck. This book is so sweet, it takes you back to the simpler things in life and puts us back in touch with our feelings. Every print in this book is wonderfully detailed and so realistic. The pictures make you want to reach in and pinch that chubby little baby cheek. I keep it on my coffee table and everyone who visits can't help but pick it up. Everyone says the same thing, the details of the children are incredible. I have also received Treasured Friends along with Angel Kisses as a gift and this book is such a great companion to Angel Kisses.

I think this is truly wonderful, but I love everything Sandra Kuck does, she has so much beauty to share with the world and I have met her several times and she is as beautiful in person as the beauty she creates. I think I found her work at the time in my life I needed to stop and smell the roses and I continue to enjoy everything she is connected to.

A wonderful baby shower gift

Review Date: 2002-04-03
My five-year old daughter found this adorable little book recently and we bought it for her to give to an aunt at an upcoming baby shower. It is chock-full of quotations from folks both famous and not so famous, and the reactions any parent will have will range from outright laughter to puddling up. I don't know how author Janet Lanese rounded up all this good stuff, but she did a super job. A sampling:

"The family you come from isn't as important as the family you're going to have."

- RING LARDNER

"To my embarrassment, I was born in bed with a lady."
- WILSON MIZNER

"When I was born, I was so surprised I couldn't talk for a year and a half."
- GRACIE ALLEN

"One trouble in raising a boy is that father always expects son to do exactly as much work as he never did."
- ANONYMOUS

"When we look at actual children, no matter how they are raised, we notice immediately that little girls are in fact smaller versions of real human beings, whereas little boys are Pod People from the Planet Destructo."
- DAVE BARRY

"I just can't get over how much babies cry. I really had no idea what I was getting into. To tell you the truth, I thought it would be more like getting a cat."
- ANNE LAMOTT

You get the idea. Not only is the text eminently readable, but the design is attractive and enhances the quotations. Old-fashioned line drawings and silhouettes abound. All in all, this is a wonderful, wonderful book and just perfect for a niece to give her aunt for the aunt's baby shower--or for anyone to give to anyone who has children either old or young.

This lady knows how to capture the essence of how a baby affects the lives of all those they touch, whether they be blood-related or by choice. She has the knack to not only interview the world of babies, but how to relate all the gamut of feelings that babies bring to our lives. It brought back memories to me of when I was a new mother at age 19 and how prescious was by baby to me, and what did he think about the world he came tumbling into, and this young lady who thought she knew how to handle it all! Good lessons and insight, reviewed and remembered, all which can still be revisited with every new baby I hold and cuddle, even my own! AND, how much love and knowledge, patience and endurance our babies pass on to us!

Pedro Guerrero. To autograph signings "It was fun until a kid came up to me and said, 'my dad says you're getting old, you're going to die, and your autograph will be Valuable.'" Warren Spahn, on autograph shows. With all the funny quotes in this book you will have a stomach ache for days. Buy it now!

"He who can summarize many ideas in a brief statement, is a wise man."
--Euripides

"You should not honor men more than truth."
--Plato, The Republic

This is very nice collection of quotes from ancient Greece. It's great for browsing or reading from start to finish. I devoured it on a short flight and still refer to it regularly.

The ancient Greeks were something special and this book shows off their wisdom, creativity and value to contemporary people.

Steven Stavropoulos has chosen some of the most well known quotes of the ancient Greeks for this book, and some which are more difficult to find. This is an excellent reference book for anyone who would like to quickly look up a quote on "love", "virtue", "justice", etc. I can see where his translation is slightly diffent from others that I have read, but the message is still transmitted very accurately. This is a must own for anyone who enjoys reading about Greek philosophy, theater or culture.

I found each quote here more fascinating and profound than the next. I find myself thinking about the ideas here all the time and USING them. They're profound but also simple -- just straight forward, ethical answers. The Ancient Greeks really did seem to have figured out so much way back when. We've just mussed it all up. A wonderful book. Thank you.

Sumner Got It Right

Review Date: 2006-09-07
Sumner Fowler is an excellent photographer. I knew him in high school when he was a photographer for The Birmingham Eccentric. Even back then he had an eye for the unique. He knew what he wanted and was patient enough to wait for the right lighting, the right nod of the head or the look in the eyes. He saw life through a photographers lens. His talent has grown and he has captured the delightfullness of the animal world. Best Friends, is evidence of where Sumner's heart, as well as talent lies......

"How many hearts with warm red blood in them are beating under cover of the woods tonight, and how many teeth and eyes are shining! A multitude of animal people intimately related to us, but of whose lives we know almost nothing, are as busy about their own affairs as we are about ours." John Muir

Sumner's camera takes us into the lives of the animals he has photographed here. I highly recommend the book. The proceeds go to an excellent cause.

Beautiful black and white photographs--the look of unconditional love in a beagle's eye, a sleepy yawn from a tabby. These and other photos (there's horses too!) of rescued animals make this book completely heartwarming.

i love this thing. mine's not the prettiest to look at anymore; the covers are beaten, the pages are frayed and torn and dog-eared, and the whole thing is held together with a jumbo rubber band (the blue elastic broke.) this little book holds my life: poetry, pictures, sketches, quotes, and even a few take-out menues. great for poets, writers, artists, humans. small enough to fit just about anywhere, but not so small you can't fit more than two words on a page.

This notebook is great. I initially picked it up as journal potential. Turns out the layout and designs on each page inspired my creativity. I now use it for poetry, drawings, and any other silly nonsense I feel like jotting down. Small enough to carry around with you and even has a pencil holder so you're never without a place to jot down your ideas. Great for any age.

The perfect little sketchbook
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2005-01-05
As a graphic design major, I'm required to keep sketchbooks for both my design and fine arts courses, but I find the traditional black cover and huge blank pages intimidating when I want to explore some of my own thoughts, not just assigned projects. They also leave me feeling exposed - some part of my brain refuses to believe that I won't have to turn them in for a grade and therefore reveal all of my personal writings and ideas to someone who hardly knows the real me.

That's why I was so excited when I found this little notebook. I wasn't even looking for one, but when I saw the colorful cover and the whimsical illustration and type, I was drawn to it. When I looked inside, I was further delighted by the variety of blank pages - some are college-ruled and some are blank, while there are others with a rectangular grid. Some have a 7-inch ruler at the side, and they all have random little illustrations at the bottom of the page. There's also a little flip-book action going on with the frog illustration at the right side of the pages - it's really cute. Along with the visual intrigue is some textual intrigue, as well; at the top of each page are three words, such as "knitting bird hospital" or "ant searching blue". These are just another entertaining detail, and I'm sure they could produce some interesting word association exercises.

Because of the way the journal is bound, there are some creasing issues when you stretch open the book, but I find that it's actually nice to have a sketchbook that isn't so perfect and imposing all of the time - the wear and tear just increases its charm. There are also two elastic loops on the side to hold a pencil or pen so that you're never left scrambling for a writing utensil when that next great idea hits. I prefer using a mechanical pencil because it can hook over one of the loops and stay there. The elastic band that keeps the book closed gives me a great sense of security and privacy, which are so important to the creative process.

Overall, I'm delighted with this little notebook and I'm so glad I found it in the clearance section at the local bookstore. If you're an artist or a writer, or perhaps just someone who likes to doodle, this is a wonderful notebook for you. Love it!
