I was very pleased with this book and I have read other books by Mr. Campbell and found them very helpful. Specifically, I took away from thios book the exact construction of the "David" class torpedo books. I fill this book helped to fill a void dealing with the construction this type of vessels.

Even though I am ten years old, I still enjoy this book. It is about a little wolf pup who wants to be the leader of his pack. One day, while chasing a mouse, he gets lost. Even though it was written for tots, I loved it!

This is one of the best books for those seeking a deeper understanding of the Eastern Orthodox approach to reality, the Holy Trinity, and themselves, along with the strong connection to the life and writings of Thomas Merton. The contributors to this fine collection include Bishop Kallistos Ware, James Cutsinger, A.M. Allchin, Rowan Williams and many many other fine writers on the spiritual life. In fact, "The Power of the Name", the not too easy to find introduction to the Jesus Prayer by Bishop Kallistos Ware, is included as a chapter, alone worth the modest price of this thick book.
This is also an excellent introduction to Thomas Merton and his connection to the fathers from the East.
This is one of the best books on the subject around! Amazingly detailed.
Contents of some of the chapters:
1. How do we enter the heart? Kallistos Ware
2. Silence in prayer: the meaning of hesychia Ware
3. The power of the Name Ware
4. The Ladder of divine ascent: the yoga of hesychism Custinger
5. A sufic perspec6tive on St. Seraphim of Sarov Gary Henry
6. Merton and the eastern fathers: the worship of the whole creation Allchin
7. Our lives, a powerful Pentecost: Merton and Russian spirituality Allchin
8. Merton and the Xpian East
9. Merton and Icons Jim Forest
10. Merton and Evdokimov
PLUS 21 other chapters, all of strong erudition and scholarship. Very nourishing for mind and soul.

This is a well written book about a deeply spiritual man. This book is about a monk spiritual journey. A journey that took him to many alien ideas and cultures.
In his quest and search for the Real, he refused to disregard other revealed religions and what they can offer in a complete sense of spirituality.
His search led him to contact Muslims as well as Muslims saints and other well known and respected writers about the subject of Islam and Sufism in particular.
This book reads like story which makes it easy to read. At the end, the reader will be able to find out the influence that Islam and Sufism had on this excellent mind. And how it helped him to become a better Christian.
I have enjoyed this book very much. I would recommend this book for all.

Horace Walpole's Gothic Castle

Horace Walpole (1717-1797), owner of the paper house, was the Fourth Earl of Orford and youngest son of Sir Robert Walpole, Britain's first Prime Minister. This book is a delightful telling, in large part through Walpole's own letters, of the building and refinement of his charming Gothic castle, made in part of papier-mâché and plaster, which still stands today in Twickenham, ten miles outside of London. Walpole says several times in his correspondence that his castle is made of paper, and he uses much paper to discuss its construction and ornamentation. He based his designs for the house on collections of engravings on paper of early Gothic tombs and on the drawings of his friends Richard Bently and John Chute. He set up a private printing press at the house and produced a catalogue listing its contents, which were considerable. He also printed up tickets and gave tours of the house. And then there is the fabulous wallpaper, which in those days really did hang on the walls.
The book contains drawings by Sylvia Jones of architectural details of the house, ceramics, chimney pieces, heraldic devices, furniture, painted glass detail, wallpaper and paint effects, the garden, and a portrait of Walpole after a 1758 painting by Allan Ramsay that now hangs in the Lewis Walpole Library in Farmington, Connecticut. Includes floor plans, selected bibliography, index, and an invaluable "Brief Guide to Correspondents, Friends, Servants, and Craftsmen mentioned in the letters or text" which identifies figures appearing throughout the book.
Anna Chalcraft and architectural designer Judith Viscardi, both residents of Twickenham, have studied the house at Strawberry Hills for many years. Visit the house if you can (go to www.friendsofstrawberryhill.org for information) but read this insightful book first.

An almost unclassifiable work, Sartor Resartus is at once inaccessible and irresitable. Repeated readings always bring new illumination and unearth previously hidden lessons. Carlyle wrote this book to instruct, entertain and, most importantly, to challenge. Its message appears more timely now than ever. Sic vos non vobis!

Well, as close as you can get for this member of the 'Graveyard School' of poetry. Very well written and engaging book. Richly detailed in the history and atmosphere of the eighteenth century. All of Gray's (rather short) body of work is touched upon from early translations to his stiching together of lines from other poets (forerunner of William Burroughs cut-up method) to the classic 'Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard'. This book is not a dry read as it relies extensively on the use of the letters of Gray and Horace Walpole among others. Extremely well researched by Mr. Mack. I enjoyed this highly readable book from start to finish and recommended it to anyone with an interest in the "Graveyard School" of poetry or the eighteenth century in general.
