I decided to use this book for birth control while searching for a doctor who would put an IUD in a nulliparous woman. I had problems with the pill and an allergy to latex. I followed the directions for how to avoid perfectly. I still don't know how I got pregnant and I was too embarrassed that i had used such a ridiculous method to show my charts to my gyno. Definitely consult with a health care provider before using FAM for birth control

I have already talked about this book to friends and they have quickly purchased this book. It is extremely educational. I come from a health background taking A&P and learning an extensive amount of info but none to this extent on the subject. It is good if you are a teen to the peak of menopause. It really is a good read. My sister has been having trouble with getting pregnant and miscarriages. She said after reading the first chapter... "No wonder I haven't been able to get pregnant" Just after one chapter. Even if you are sticking to your normal birth control methods... it really is good to know about your body, how it works and when you are ready to have children... how to detect issues and be able to get pregnant in a manner that doesn't necessarily have to send you to a fertility clinic. There are other safe effective ways. GREAT EDUCATIONAL READ!! Check out the website preseed.com if you are having trouble concieving. IT is great too!! The great thing about this book is they have a a support website for it as well... ovusoft.com

I haven't read this book, just what I was able to in the "Search Inside!" feature and let me tell you, what I read made SO much sense that I just HAD to have this book!

It has been a while since I have purchased a book from Amazon and I have officially "fallen in love" with them all over again. I have had NOTHING BUT LUCK with them!

You see, I was supposed to get this book TOMORROW, instead a knock was at the door from our awesome postman and I didn't expect the package to be for ME and bam! It had my name on it from Amazon and OMG I am SO happy!

Can't believe this book comes with the software CD too, it's a trial, but that's great!

What a pleasant surprise today! Thank you Amazon! :D

UPDATE: Okay editing to add that I LOVE this book! I am SO glad that I got this book NOW instead of waiting when I was in my 30s. It's best to know NOW especially w/ me being 23, why not start learning young lol! A great book and VERY informative! I learned things I didn't even know! I would recommend this book to anyone trying to conceive or just who are interested in charting their cycles to see if they ovulate! :)

A tale of growing up and acceptance with a strong female lead who shows, without being ultra feminist, that girls can accomplish anything that boys can.

A heroine that fails to disappoint.

Admittedly a huge fan of the "women-warrior, disguised as a man" characters, I have been disappointed time and again by peoples take on them, but not this time. The take on magic, the involvement of the gods, and the world, which holds different morals, gave to a very interesting atmosphere for the books to be set in. Alanna is a character that I couldn't help cheering for, and identifying with.

Granted as others point out, this is very obviously a first novel that will kick-off a series. And while I did enjoy it, I do prefer to have series of novels have the ability to be stand-alones.

A terrific kick-off, to what I hope to be a wonderful series.

Read over and over and over...

My Mom bought me the series 10 years ago when I was 13... Since then I have read them over and over and over... I find them impossible to tire of and once I start reading I don't want to put it back down... although by now I have half the books memorized.
I started reading these books when I was 13 years old and loved them... now at 23 years old- I still love to read this series.
The Immortals series is excellent as well.

I did not realize when I bought these books that they were for young adults, I still thoroughly enjoyed reading about Alanna's adventures, friends and family. Alanna proved to the men again and again that "anything you can do I can do better". A great message to put out there for young girls. And even though it took me 1 day to read each book I just couldn't stop until I was done!

Basic moral values

Review Date: 2008-02-04
Is no one bothered by the essential lack of values in this book? Getting what you want is more important than honesty or respect for others. The main character threatens others with horrible, supernatural punishment, tricks her father, lies outrightly, and that's just in the first chapter.
What about integrity, justice, truth as foundations of doing right?
Compare this heroine with Jonas in The Giver, Frodo in The Lord of the Rings, Andy in Wolf Rider, or Karana in The Island of the Blue Dolphins.

We use this book as a completion/graduation gift for a summer program for high school students that gives them experience in working at a university-level research project. The program is called SHARP. The book edition is hardback with a color-embossed jacket, so it will hold up as a keepsake, and the kids use it as they would a yearbook--collecting autographs and keep-in-touch messages from their friends and teachers.

I've always appreciated the way Dr. Suess can speak to adults. This is a classic graduation book, and that's where I got my copy.

But it's still very much kid-friendly and just as inspirational to them as to anyone.

This is a story about chane and going for it, with a healthy dose of realism that reminds us that the world is not a fairy tale and that bad things will happen but that they are still no reason to give up.

Hardy boys with a bit of Harry Potter sprinkled in...

This is the first book I have read by the author and what a great introduction. Considering this book was written in the early 90's, the 12-year old Cory M. main character, was a harbinger of the "magical boy"
at the edge of adolescence. Ala Harry Potter, Cory has the sixth sense. Though there are elements of horror, this is mainly a autobiography of kids in the 60's. The feel of the time is right, with boys on bikes looking for adventure and trying to escape the misery of school. And surely one can remember that magic did seem to be in the air at that age. The characters are well-developed and the mystery, who is the drowned man in the lake?, is nicely woven through, but not always the main focus. More importantly, Cory and his friends begin to glimpse the adult world, maybe just as scary as the horror stuff. Dad loses his job, Mom is a worry-wart, and Cory faces love and death. Did not want it to end and felt the post-script of life in the 90's, did not add. A different type of horror/mystery story and great change of pace.

Robert McCammon really did an awsome job writing this book. It expresses everything in a young boy's life. The dissapointments such as: loosing a friend to a bullet, your dog dying, and having your dad layed off from work. On the other hand it also tells about great things such as: getting a new bike, catching a criminal, going to a circus, and many other things. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a book that will keep you reading till the last page.

I haven't read any other McCammon novels and I'm not sure he could write a better one then this. Aside from reading The Grapes of Wrath, this was the best book I read this summer!

I am a huge fan of Robert McCammon and this book is one of the best reasons why. The writing is so engrossing that you can get lost in the story and not even want to find your way out. The characters are all richly drawn and can stand on their own, not just as sounding boards for the main character, Cory, an 11 year old boy. If you have read the reviews this far down you will already know the plot, and all I can add is that if you take a chance and read the book you will be better off for the journey. The beautiful writing will break your heart and make you laugh out loud. What more could you ask for?

Should we, could we all walk through life in such an enlightened state? What a wonderful peaceful world it would be. How can we deny that Kahlil Gibran was directed by the Gods to deliver a message: "be as one, live in the light, love is the only answer!" and so I paraphrase, but in truth, it is a way of life that is essential to the well-being of mankind.

Step by step Dan Poynter takes you through writing and publishing your own book. He doesn't promise that it will be easy or that you will be successful, but he does explain the process.
The real work begins once your book is printed--you are on your own and he gives you an extensive rundown of the markets you can tap. For the novice author first you must make sure you have the best product that can be produced--a professional editor, which is one area he handles in marginal fashion though there is a list of editing services in the back. Make sure you obtain both a line editor and a content editor which are two difference birds. It is very difficult to spot the little mistakes because you read what should be there not what is actually on the page.
This is the grandfather of them all and an excellent survey of the field. All of the books attached to this review are self-published books, which have received strong reviews and sold well.

You Can Plan Your Life Again: It really does work

I came across this book on the Amazon website last year in October. I have been suffering from migraines for about 20 years, which were worse around my menstrual cycle. I had a headache every month and they were bad enough to last for up to 4-5 days. My husband was having to take time off of work each month to look after our two preschool children. When I was pregnant with my first child, I suffered from headaches daily for the first 6 months of pregnancy and had to be written off of work for this period of time. After the children were born, we planned whatever activities we did around the dates when my migraines would occur. Our lives were dominated by my headaches. One day my 3 year old son asked my husband, "What is that black thing in the bedroom?"- referring to me kneeling on the floor unable to cope with the pain.

After reading the book in 2007, I stopped drinking tea and coffee immediately. I suffered a terrible rebound headache that lasted for about 10 days. I then waited to see what would happen at my time of the month; I didn't have a headache and could not believe it. Since following the advice in this book, my husband has not had to take any further time off of work. The headaches that I get now are all to do with whether I have followed the diet or not. They are not nearly as severe and respond to medication right away.

It is now August 2008, and I have just had the first bad migraine since following the diet. The reason for this headache was due to drinking rooibos tea which I was using as a substitute for regular tea. For some reason, I had a bad reaction to this tea and realize that it is better keeping to herbal tea.

This book has saved our family life and I am so grateful to Dr. Buchholz for giving me an escape route from agony. It is with great pleasure that I do not pay much attention now to my time of month and if I do get a twinge of pain, it goes quickly.

I highly recommend this book to any migraine sufferer and add my positive comments to the many others who have found this book to be so helpful. I have also mentioned it to my doctor and she said that she would suggest it to her other migraine patients. If you are in any doubt that this diet will work, try it and see whether it does or not. It will be an experiment well worth trying.

I first saw Dr. Buchholz 12 years ago for severe headaches. I had been to numerous doctors and had tried many things including sinus remedies, acupuncture and Imitrex injections. With every failed treatment, I felt physically and emotionally worse.

It took me awhile to buy in to Dr. Buchholz's program but I was desperate so finally gave it a try. After 2 weeks I felt better and after two months I was having only minor headaches. Four months after starting the program, my headaches were almost completely gone. Over the next seven years, I was able to re-introduce many foods with little headache recurrence.

When my father passed away my headaches returned but this time with a number of new symptoms including terrible neck and face pain. I read this book and immediately knew what was going on and what to do about it. Again, within a matter of weeks, I was able to get my headaches under control.

Dr. Buchholz is a brilliant doctor and this book is invaluable to anyone who suffers from any type of headache. Dr. Buchholz not only thoroughly and simply explains how the migraine mechanism works but he provides simple, logical steps for healing yourself. The book is a wonderful resource - I highly recommend it.

This book probably saved my life. I was having headaches so bad I was afraid I might not be able to work and have to go on disability. I discovered the book about 2 years ago and my headaches have almost disappeared. When I do have a headache, it is because I have cheated on the diet or eaten something that I didn't realize was on his list of foods to avoid (yogurt, for example).

Although many of my favorite foods are on the list to avoid (cheese, salty snacks that may have MSG, peanut butter, etc.), it is a small sacrifice to avoid them as much as possible. When I follow the diet strictly, my head is completely clear, not fuzzy or "headachy." I now no longer fear getting a headache at work and having to take sick leave.

In the rare occasions I do get a headache, it is nothing compared to the ones I used to get that made me vomit (not fun). Taking Advil or Relpax, only when absolutely necessary to prevent the rebound headaches, usually clears them up.

I was desperate before finding this book. I recommend it to everyone I know who suffers from migraines.

The pages are full of episode summaries, quotes, and trivia facts from the show. It also offers profiles of characters, and a list of who does what voice. A great source if you cannot remember what guest celebrity voiced a character or any other information like that. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys the "Simpsons" and wants to know more about the episodes.

Almost everything you could ever think to ask about The Simpsons is in this book. What was Bart writing on the chalkboard in "that one episode"? It's in here. The plots, inside jokes, behind the scenes tales and more await in this excellent resource for fans. This book harkens from the Conan O'Brien-era prime of the series, up to about the late 90's, when the quality (sadly) slipped big time. This was the golden age of The Simpsons, back before the series "became a cartoon." (Anyone who was a fan back in the day knows just what I mean.)

The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family is probably the best book on the Simpsons that I've read. It includes, and I am taking this right from the cover, characters, episodes, and secret jokes you might have missed from seasons 1 thru 8. The book was created by Matt Groening and edited by Ray Richmond. It details each episode and even has extras: The Shorts; Homer Says, "D'oh..."; Homer Says, "Mmm..."; Couch Gags; Seen around Springfield; An Itchy & Scratchy Filmography; Who Does What Voice; and Merchandising, Thy Name Is Krusty.

The books dedication even reads:
TO THE LOVING MEMORY OF
SNOWBALL I:
WE HOPE THAT
THEY CHANGE YOUR CATBOX
IN KITTY HEAVEN MORE OFTEN
THAN WE DID DOWN HERE.

My favorite saying in the book is on p. 64, "When Flanders Failed":
"Hey, Barteleeboobely, care for a steak-a-rooney?" Homer, to Bart as he cooks on the grill that used to belong to Fladners.

I definetly reccomend purchasing this book.

I found this book so soothing. If you love the Simpsons, you will love this book. You can relive the most hilarious quotes of the series in the most convienient manner possible. No need to search through DVD's to hear Homer say, "It takes two to lie, Marge. One to lie, and one to listen." Instead, you can flip through this book and relive all your favorite moments. I read it over and over and over again. It is well worth its price.

This book is great for students and teachers that want to know the scientific information about cooking and baking. For example it explains the chemical changes in leavening, emulsions, and so much more. It talks about the nature of plants, dairy, all of the cookingmethods. Oh I dont think the author missed a single detail in this hows, whys, and whos of cooking. I highly recommended it to keep in your house.

This is a really good book. I recommend this book to anyone in the food industry. If you read this book and use the information, you will have a better understanding of cooking. If you plan on becoming a chef, this book will help you be a step further than other.

I think it's important to point out this book is realively small for the degree of degtail it contains. If you want to find out the answers to a great deal of cullinary questions without wading through highly verbose food science texts, then this is your book. It is certainly Europe centric.

This book is not for the faint of heart or the casual cook or reader! This is a most complete reference work on the art and science of cooking. If you ever wondered what happens to the food stuff when you cook it or why you do or don't add certain things together while preparing a dish this volume has all your answers. This is not a bedside reader but an excellent addition to your cookbook collection and reference shelf.

This book is in very poor taste, there is a very simple construct to it as well. What I mean is that it's the standard memoir only interlaced with vulgar demeaning language, and tales of his supporting the global sex trade. The foreword was written by the ever hilarious Colin Quinn but the rest of this book is all Norton. It is not a 1 star becuase he is funny, I just don't see the need to be so low brow about it.

Hilarious reading....

this is the book the nice man on the cover gave to me after he touched me in a bad place.

Too repetitious.

This is a fun book to read for a man, but I wouldn't recommend it to a woman.

The book is pretty explicit. Coarse language is used, so definitely not recommended for kids.

I started reading the book but quit half way through. I did enjoy it at first, and did laugh out loud, but it just got too much at the end. I found the book too repetitious, sick at times and overly perverted. I did not like it when he talked of kids and sex. I know he is trying to be funny, but one should draw the line somewhere. There are some sick people out there who might just take him seriously. Words are mightier than the sword, so we should really be careful about what we say.

I would prefer seeing the book performed in a comedy club than actually reading it. I think the jokes and stories would sound better in a club with other people participating and laughing. Sometimes you find yourself laughing at mediocre jokes or stories when you hear others laugh. After all, that's why TV programs sometimes have a live audience or recorded laughter in the background.

You might also want to check out the audio version of this book, which is read by the author.

I bought the book based on a Norton interview that he gave to Maxim magazine. Based on the interview I expected more down in the dirt sex depravity out of this character and I found it sparse in that department. I expected more 'monster rain' events in his life but instead it was more random journals from his days on the comedy circuit junket. He tends to have the same problem a lot of comics do, which is their comedy doesn't translate well to the printed page... given how perverted he looks with his bug eyes, the physical comedy plays a lot better [especially on Lucky Louie in that stained bathrobe].

As far as shocks go, Dave Attell's new material is exactly what this book should have been.
