As always Beverly Jenkins delivered another knock out book. I have been a fan of hers for years. I eagerly await each new novel. The romance, the drama and history lessons she provides in each book is enlightening. I would love to meet a man like Neil and Two Shafts myself. Olivia played her role as intelligent black woman, but also showed her sensual side as well. God help us all if we had to marry men our fathers chose based on a business deal.
Not enough "romance" in this "romance novel".

Believe me when I say I wanted desperately to like this book. I have been searching for years to find an African-American historical romance novel.
My critique with this story is not the "idea", the idea in itself is brilliant: a beautiful headstrong woman out West alone who meets a very virile & handsome outlaw who is just as attracted to her as she is to him. It wasn't until I had gotten half way through the book did I realize that although there was chemistry between our heroine and this outlaw nothing was happening. It was as if they were both AFRAID of one another. I know it was suppose to be because she was "innocent" and he was "wanted in her town". However I couldn't help but ponder why Mrs Jenkins the author didn't have the characters flirt more with one another. This BUBBLEGUM romance won't make you blush in the least. I bought the book 3 months ago and couldn't finish it.

This is another great connecting story. Read Night Song, Topaz, The Taming of Jessie Rose, Always and Forever to get the background on the town of Henry Adams, Kansas and on the secondary characters. Hope Two Shafts, Teresa and Preacher meet their match in the future.

Beverly Jenkins never disappoints her followers. She is an excellent writer with undescrible talent. I was never a fan of historical romances until I read one of her books. Her style and descriptions of whatever period her stories are set in are so clear and concise till I can see myself living in whatever period she is writing about. I enjoy her stories so much and have met other readers that feel the same way. Please keep them coming!

Mrs. Jenkins has done it again! She CAN'T write a bad novel. As ALWAYS I couldn't put this book down! The storyline flowed effortlessly across the pages and the characters were well developed and UNFORGETTABLE as usual. I was TOTALLY caught up in the suspense of Neil and Olivia's romance. Not knowing what would happen with this couple, if they would even get together, let alone have any type of a future, kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole novel. I mean what kind of relationship could they possibly have, she was the mayor of Henry Adams and he was a WANTED outlaw?!! I love the way Mrs. Jenkins always makes her female characters not only beautiful, but intelligent, independent and full of passion. And the men, be they rich, poor, educated or not, outlaws or law abiding citizens, they're always the PERFECT gentlemen, and ALWAYS treat their women like QUEENS, and definitely know how to SATISFY their every desire. I enjoyed the family bond and loyalty of the July's, the way they take care of their own and the sometimes HILAROUS way they dispense their own brand of "justice". We also have the opportunity to get reaquainted with Chase and Cara Jefferson from "Night Song", Dix Wildhorse from "Topaz", Jackson Blake from "Topaz and Always and Forever", Griffin Blake, and the Preacher from "Taming of Jessi Rose" it was like one BIG family reunion, and I enjoyed every thrilling moment of it. I also hope if any of the above mentioned characters haven't had their own story written by Mrs. Jenkins, that one is in the works. A definite MUST READ!

I have to admit, living in the Midwest has made it difficult to catch LSU sports. I have actually become an SEC sympathizer. I'll watch any team in the conference. Enter this book. A really good history about the programs of the SEC. All of the folklore about Bear Bryant, Gene Stallings, Vince Dooley and the "evil" genius. I read this book from cover to cover and really understood some of the fierce rivalries in the SEC. You also begin to understand the rich tradition that is SEC football and why it is important to alumni. I'm still a devout LSU fan, but will follow the SEC in any contest!

Do you know the history of your alma mater? I am a Georgia Bulldog and I had no idea I knew so little about the Dawgs and the rest of the SEC. Learn about it all here. The tailgating recipes are great too. A perfect gift idea for the SEC Football crazed fan in your life. I have considerably boosted my water cooler bragging rights with this book.

This book is really something if you are an avid southern football fan. If you are an SEC alumni, it is a must-have. In addition to a history of college football in the South, all of the unique histories and traditions of the schools are there...along with some very tasty Cajun tailgating recipes named after each team. Great bowl games are mentioned and each of the alma maters and fight songs are listed as well. This is one of the best sports books to come around in quite some time. Purchase your copy of "A Tailgater's Guide To SEC Football." It has something for everyone and it will not disappoint. An engaging read.

Well written and informative, Warner's book is a great reference source for any SEC football fan. Each chapter covers the important players and coaches from each school. However, if you are looking for anything deeper, go elsewhere. None of the big issues, i.e. segregation/integration or cheating/NCAA violations are covered. The book does a great job of accomplishing Warner's goals. I only wish he'd have been a bit more ambitious and tackled questions tougher than, "who was the best QB in Florida history?"

So far I've only gotten throught the first chapter. It's a dense amount of information, but it is incredibly well written and informative. No extra words just to take up space and get something into book format. It's definetly a text book. The first chapter gives you an extensive review of the human relationship with drugs since the beginning of time, and forty pages later, I feel enlightened and full of ideas. Incredibly insightful and well worth the price for someone with a deep interest in this field.

The item shipped quickly and was brand new as I was told. I am not impressed with the Study Guide, and the book itself is rather disjointed. It's hard to find the information within all the quotes from addicts. I would set it up so that the information came first and then the quotes would be placed at the end of the text in each section.

The authors, Darryl Inaba and William Cohen do a great job of keeping this book very open and simple. They cover almost every drug (5th edition) which a counselor may run into when talking with his students. As a research or higher level order book though, this would not do as it is just too brief on most subjects to really get to know indepth pharmacology or pharmacodynamics on most of the psychoactive drug actions. There is a lot of history, and even a CD-ROM to help you familiarize yourself with many topics of addiction in a very short period of time. In some sections, there is some really good information on drugs I have not seen on the pharmacy shelves for at least 12 years. If you are someone who wants to quickly get to know the subject of psychoactive drugs, then I highly recommend this book for you. His vocabulary is such that it is easy to read, without too much of a serious tone-- and you will not even need a highliner to remember the facts. This book is packed with knowledge. Very enjoyable reading for a change, with lots of good and interesting photographs that make you think. You will enjoy this book, for it is written in a very unique format that makes you want to relax and just turn each page and learn. guyairey

I enjoyed this book. It reminded me a lot of "Grey's Anatomy" only it takes place in the early 1970's so it's interesting to see how many things have changed since then (women in the surgical field, major technology differences, etc.) Good character development, I felt like I really knew the characters by the end of the book. Sequel! Sequel!

The struggles, challenges, and rewards of being a medical intern are realistically and graphically portrayed in Pierce Scranton's "Learning Curve". The vivid accounts of medical conditions and procedures described in the book are offset by the constant reminders that doctors are, after all, human! The downside of that humanness is that medical mistakes can and are made, resulting in adverse affects on patients...sometimes in death. The upside of the humanness of doctors is that most of them really do CARE deeply about healing their patients, and they work so very hard toward that end.
The author has given us a very honest and insightful account of the everyday high drama that surrounds our physicians as they practice and learn how to blend their professional skills and knowledge with their humanness and love and respect for life.
Thank God for duck hunting!

Dr. Scranton's book is a candid and realistic portrait of internship in the 1970's. Although some things have changed, many more things have remained the same. His attention to details makes this story very real and delightfully entertaining. This is a wonderful read for anyone in the medical profession, but medical knowledge is certainly not needed to follow the story line and thoroughly enjoy.

I lost sleep while reading Death On The Learning Curve! That's because I stayed up until all hours of the night reading it, unable to put it down! It is a fast-paced, entertaining story of the life of interns during their intern year at General Hospital in 1971. It is a touching account of what interns are faced with on a daily basis. Life and death decisions that have to be made in a split second. If you like "ER" and "Grey's Anatomy", this is a must read! The author, Dr. Pierce Scranton, captures the humanity, panic, fear, doubts, exhaustion and jubilation that surrounds these interns like a cocoon during their intern year. The book is written in a fresh and entertaining style with Dr. Ned Crosby running across his old journal that he kept during his intern year, and reflecting on the scenarios as they happened 25 years earlier. The story is chock full of humor, adventure, and yes, even a tender love story! Thank you, Dr. Scranton, for writing such a wonderful and entertaining novel that allows us "lay" people to get an eye-opening view into the life of an intern and the bizarre, heart-wrenching human medical drama that an intern must face and do his best to fix; that "sometimes you have to hurt someone to help them". Now go pour yourself a Scotch...at least three fingers...you earned it!

Managed services, delivering different types of unlimited amounts of IT support for a flat fee, has been revolutionizing the IT industry in the SMB space. The model is dramatically different than the typical break/fix or blocks of hours way of doing business- it requires a fundamental business, sales, and technical transformation.
Erick Simpson's IT company was an early adopter, quickly became hugely successful, and Erick continues to lead in the field by delivering some of the best educational materials out there on this subject. I personally own this book and his follow-up sales book and have attended some of his presentations- outstanding! Some may balk at the price, but compare it to your professional hourly rate, and you'll find that the time saved and money earned make it a no-brainer. His materials, particularly this book, directly helped me close many thousands of dollars of recurring business in 2007.

His materials, particularly this book, directly helped me close many thousands of dollars of recurring business in 2007.

I've spent more than a decade covering the IT channel. This book should be required reading for any VAR looking to become an MSP. The author manages to cover key areas (particularly business, sales and marketing) that most tech-focused VARs overlook.

I am a business owner interested in the Managed Services market space. I have read so much about Managed services but have not found a step by step guide on how to implement the managed services business plan or sell those services to clients. What I needed were step by step guides on both the topics. I was introduced to Erick's books by another associate. This book and "The Best I.T. Sales & Marketing BOOK EVER!" by Erick were exactly what I was looking for. Erick is not just a subject matter expert in Managed Services but has practiced and implemented his teachings and recommendations. He explains several key concepts and best practices on Managed Services, Deliverables, Pricing, How to identify clients, sell, support and maintain the services and build a long term win-win relationship with the clients. The coverage on How to Hire and Train your sales staff is worth its weight in gold. Included along with these 2 books are several forms, analysis tools and documents which make the sales process a whole lot easier with predictable results. These are the bibles for my managed services business and I refer them frequently. If you are serious about building a profitable managed services business, you must have these books.

When I was in school, 10th grade, we had a chapter in English Literature. This chapter, named In the Grip of Prejudice, was from the book 'To Sir With Love'. That was such a gripping chapter, that I decided to buy the 'To Sir With Love' immediately.
Amazing book and fantastic movie (with excellent performance of Sydney Poitier). The book has been with me for more than a decade and re-read multiple times. Very intelligent book that teaches the basics of right human existance.

I just saw "Amazing Grace" about William Wilberforce
and the ending of the British slave trade. There is little doubt that the Ricky Braithwaite who is a relatively young black teacher in England
is the breeding product of such slaves used by sugar planters
in British colonies. In arriving at their destination a large percentage died in the crossing. An even larger number usually died each year as
a result of over work and underfeeding. Genetically this actually tended to make the black slaves superior to their white masters in many ways.
Survival makes very good people.
But the question is not if Braitwaite was as good teacher a teacher as
he is a writer, but have conditions improved since 1959 when he first published this. From hearing about the life of Amy Winehouse who is a very popular British singer, one tends to think they may have actually gotten worse in London's East End, not better?
So for all the popularity of the book and movie of this book,
not a lot of attention was really paid to his lessons in understanding
and care for the poor and hard pressed of all races.
Amy Winehouse was expelled by a Weston type for being independent and different. Progressive education has been replaced with regimentation and discipline. Braitwaite made the point that music, even classical music, got through to these children, but in California we spend money on contact football instead? In California E. R. Braitwaite wouldn't be allowed to teach in an high school. He doesn't have a recognized teaching credential.

During my school days, we had an extract from this book as one of the lessons in our English subject. The lesson was named "In the Grip of Prejudice". After reading the lesson, I just wanted to read the whole book. ER Braithwaite has handled a touchy subject aesthetically.

A very enjoyable book. Braithwaite tells an inspirational story about both teaching kids but also overcoming prejudice as a black man in post WWII England. I'm a new teacher and hope to develop the type of relationship he had with his students with mine some day.

I remember having read an extract of "To Sir with Love" during my school days and have been wanting to read it ever since. Unfortunately I never got around to doing so for quite a while. Recently while browsing in a bookshop, my eyes fell on the book and I decided to pick it up.
The book is an extremely inspiring autobiography which chronicles the life of a 'coloured' teacher in a particularly rowdy neighbourhood of London.
Written in an extremely touching, charming (and ocassionally witty) style, the author talks about how he has to deal with racial sterotypes. It is uphill all the way for Braithwaite as he counters the cynicism of his impressionable students and, ocassionally, that of his colleagues also. Slowly, he wins over the minds (and in the case of Pamela Dare, heart) of his students as he tries to wipe clean their minds of prejudices (racial or otherwise).
The book was also filmed starring the ever-charming Sidney Poitier in the lead role. See the movie after reading the book.

This is a great read for anyone, not just business owners or entrepreneurs.
A quick, concise guide to identify and document your strengths AND weaknesses and help you construct a realistic and achievable plan to get you where you want to be.
I could definitely relate to the real life predicaments Mr. Fishman writes about and how these issues were resolved. You will find that many of these real life experiences remind you of yourself or someone you know.
The book gave me a new awareness and understanding of some aspects of my life I had not thought of before. And as a result, it motivated me to implement some of the ideas to take action to improve my life.
We can all benefit from the fresh ideas and techniques Mr. Fishman shares to improve our creativity, communication, goal setting, and negotiating. I recommend 7 Secrets of Great Entrepreneurial Masters to everyone.

So many business books are great in theory, but the translation of the message can be lost in practical, day-to-day experiences. The 7 Secrets is different, because it not only illustrates the individual secrets with real-life scenarios and experiences, but reference checklists for how to incorporate the 7 Secrets into your professional life. Fishman's understanding of how busy and sometimes hectic an entrepreneur's life is evident.

It has been said that, if you honk your own horn, no one will want to do it for you. This is a book about horn honking.
This book shows an ego at work that is big enough to fill the universe yet small enough to dwell in your heart. Before you reach page 15 of this book, you will have seen over 150 different tidbits of inside information from the author such he loves his mom, he loves his dad, he loves his two daughters, he loves his son in law, he loves his friends and his dreams have been satisfied beyond his wildest expectations. He mentions seven times that he lives in Aspen (all this before we reach page 15) and we are told several times that he hikes, bikes and rides ski lifts. Unfortunately in all of this verbiage we find no mention of his wife or the mother of his daughters. How can a life be so successful and happy without learning how to love another of our Heavenly Father's Creations? Fishman shows us what a ego on display is all about.
There is insight that can be gained from this book and you will find it right there in the Conclusion at the end of the book where you don't have to wade through the "I am happy and successful and live in Aspen, Colorado" drivel. However, the real story of this book is one that hasn't been told and that involves the Power of Persuasion. How did Fishman get McGraw - Hill to publish this book? Had he chosen to discuss his talent of persuasion, he might have come up with a different title than one that appears to be a Stephen Covey knockoff.

Board Meetings and Business 101 with Og. UGH!!

Sometimes it is so simple. And when it gets that simple, you can hardly believe that somebody got the IDEA to write a book for $13.95 on ideas alone! And in saying that, I can hardly believe I got talked into reading this, but I did. Were the adventures of Og, Ugh, Aargh, along with the rest of the council, ALONG with the BIG IDEA totally worthless? Not at all but, I wasn't that impressed either. Whether or not you have to had sold Kirby Vacuum Cleaners in another life, or are simply fixed on Business 101 to appreciate the concept of this book, I have no clue. But through Og and company, I took a look at Mitchell Lewis Ditkoff's GREAT IDEA.
Well, Og has an idea. A GREAT IDEA!!! As a Kirby Vacuum Cleaner salesman might constantly ask, "Isn't that amazing? Isn't that fantastic? Isn't that incredible? Isn't that outstanding? Isn't that simply WONDERFUL?" Um, no. But go ahead, Og, with your GREAT IDEA! Og (or Mitchell, I'd better not give Og too much credit just yet.) sounds like Tony, the Tiger simply trying to get Kellog's Frosted Flakes off the ground. So to try and get this GREAT IDEA rolling, he gets around to selling this GREAT IDEA at THE BIG MEATING! And at this meating, nobody is impressed. What did Og do that was so wrong. All he wanted to do was invent the wheel. He goes a step further. Upon the advice he receives, he actually puts his plan into action! GO OG!!! His plan works, he's invented the wheel, Og's the big man in town. And if that isn't enough, when story time ends, we go into the "What Have We Learned From Og?" section of the book. And that alone has more questions than the chapters of Og's story! But you can learn a thing or 2.
Now, I admit, I probably had a few laughs at the expense of Mr. Ditkoff, and I'll probably get some, "Let me ask you a question, Mr. Moffat" type of e-mail for my effort. But it simply wasn't something I was into, yet I did enjoy it for what it was worth. I hope that Mitchell Lewis Ditkoff has plenty of ideas, and I hope they all beat the pants off of people like me when they get wealthy. Writing a book like this isn't something I could do, but Ditkoff did. That was Ditkoff's GREAT IDEA, and he accomplished it.

Some of the best management and motivational books are written as allegory and this is one of them

This allegory succeeds on several levels; it is funny, truthful and uses characters and situations that remind you of modern situations. Og is a caveman with a great idea, the concept of the wheel. Clearly, it is one of those truly big ideas that will improve his society. He nurtures the idea for some time, while his family, in particular his wife Aargh, thinks he is ill. His thoughtfulness to the exclusion of the rest of his life has her worried for the future as he is no longer interested in the hunt. Others in his tribe, such as his best friend Ugh consider him to be "naramp poozka" which in caveman language means "rocks in his head."
Eventually, Og presents his idea to the tribal elders, but he does it poorly and it is rejected. The problem is that he only described his idea and had no prototype to show them. However, despite the rejection and belittlement, Og presses on and eventually demonstrates a working model which convinces everyone. This is done only after he also invents the axle and the cart, which are necessary to demonstrate the value of the wheel. By "thinking outside the cave" and being persistent, Og is hailed as a success and the doubts vanish.
Some of the best motivational and management books appear in the form of an allegory or parable and this is one of them. Ditkoff has done an outstanding job in putting forward all of the problems and pitfalls with the presentation of a powerful and original idea. The resistance and reluctance to change among the company "Neanderthals", the worries of the family about support and income and the need to properly present the idea to the decision makers are all covered in an amusing fashion.
I strongly recommend this book for anyone who has had an original idea, yet had it shot down or anyone who feels that their company work environment is stiff and restrictive. If nothing else, it will amuse and refresh you, and that by itself is a valuable thing. It would also be excellent reading material for a company sponsored "creativity jolt" session.

I love business lesson storybooks. If you like books like Who Moved My Cheese, or one of my favorites, Our Iceberg is Melting, then you'll love AWAKE AT THE WHEEL by Mitchell Ditkoff. It's told in the same, simple, easy to read fashion, but packs in some great lessons on innovation.
One thing that struck me while reading Og's story is how simple it would be for a motivated teacher to re-tell Og's story to a group. Let's face it, getting an entire team to read a book is often asking too much in today's world where mediocrity is an attribute.
Another thing I really liked is that Ditkoff laced the book with business quotes. Most I've seen before, but it's always good to be refreshed with wisdom.
Og's story of the wheel takes up roughly half the book. The last half of the just over 100-page booklet is a recap of what Og learned along the way, followed by 35 ways to get the wheels of innovation turning. This is a fun book and an easy read.

Mitch Ditkoff has done an exemplary job of producing a short and easy to read but extraordinarily powerful metaphorical representation of what it means to have and communicate a "Big Idea" and all of the trials and tribulations that come with it.
For those of you familiar with Joseph Campbell's work, this is a wonderful representation of the "Hero's Journey" from the call, the journey, and the return (which is by far the most difficult). This book can be easily read within 2-3 hours and comes with two appendices that summarize the major ideas of the book.
This book is for anyone who doesn't "get" the idea of a Big Idea, who would like to access the space in which to be illuminated with a Big Idea, and/or whoever has a Big Idea and is struggling for a way to express it and share it with others.
Carl Jung placed supreme importance on the development of the individual because it is only through the individual that quantum leaps of consciousness for the collective may occur.
I offer my sincere and profound thanks to the author--KUDOS to you!!

Mitchell Ditkoff's Awake At The Wheel: Getting your Great Ideas Rolling (in an Uphill World) is a book about the creative process and how you can use the creative process to develop your ideas and bring them to fruition. Ditkoff wrote this book to help "close the gap between thought and action", and I think this book accomplishes that goal.
This book is divided in two 3 sections. The first section is a fable about a Neanderthal name Og and his struggles with being consumed with a breakthrough idea and his struggles to make it a reality. I found the use of the fable a refreshing change makes for an easy read while doing a good job of communicating the authors ideas.
The second section of the book outlines 12 Best Practices for developing and manifesting your inspired ideas.
The third section of the book is a creative thinking "toolbox" that outlines 35 tools you can use to develop, nurture, and manifest your own breakthrough ideas.
I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this book!
