Captain Pampille sucessfuly utilises a narrative in a narrative to use the anthromophosising of animals as objects of love against the inhuman treatment of oppressed people. Based losely on an historical scam, drawing on American adventure stories and French society and art, the named protagonist tale is of Voltairian survival, Queeq sea management, and Ponzi sales. The animals are amusing and attractive. The portrait of abuse, authority, and cruelty devestating. Yet it is written smoothly, with great with an even charm. Hesperus Press should be praised for bringing this unknown gem to print.

King of Paris a Novel tells the life story of Alexandre Dumas. (In real life Dumas wrote The Three Musketeers and many many others.) We meet Dumas in childhood declaring a duel with God one stormy night in the highest room in the house. The young Dumas comes to Paris and on the theory that if one writes a page a day then in a year one will have a novel and if one writes six pages a day then in a year one will have six novels, Dumas becomes literary history.

Guy Endore's story is written like fiction and reads fast and well. I don't know how much of it is history and how much is put in to add color. There is a lot of historical detail (not boring trust me). Probably Guy Endore just picked a colorful character to write about and went from there. This book was very entertaining and written with much humor and color.

El Conde de Monte Cristo me trae muchos recuerdos maravillosos. Lo lei en 1973, durante un tiempo que estuve con muchos problemas y este libro fue mi escape. Me ayudo a seguir siendo valiente para seguir adelante. En 2003, le comente a mi nieto de 12 anos sobre este libro y tambien lo leyo, y le parecio estupendo.

There is no way that I could find my way in this long book of 117 chapters without the table of contents which this book has. I am reading this kindle edition of the classic while listening along with my Audible account. I purchased the Blackstone audio book narrated by Fred Williams.

I recommend all books by this author.

I look at many translations from the French to the English when I purchase original French authors and I can tell you that the translation done by IndyPublish is the best. It is exceptional. Don't watch the movie before reading the book. Dumas's best work ever in my opinion is available here in the two volume set...remember Indy Publishing publishes Count of Monte Cristo in two volumes.

These historical stories are actually excerpts from Dumas' novels.
For example, The Courtship of Josephine and Napoleon comes from the novel, The Companions of Jehu. In addition, The Drowner comes from the novel, Whites and the Blues. Since his father served in Napoleon's army, Dumas seems to know the Napolenic period by heart.
His physical description of Napoleon seems to be pretty accurate.

A must read for any book fan worth his salt... a masterful book.... I loved it tremndously......
The story is about , as most of you will know , D'Artagnan , who comes from the district of Gascon to the city to become a musketeer and his adventures with the new friends he makes from the King's musketeers.......

I recommend this book to everyone......
