THIS BOOK IS TRULY BEAUTIFUL AND SPIRITUAL. DOROTHY WINBUSH RILEY HAS CREATED A BOOK THAT IS INSPIRATIONAL, HISTORICAL AND ARTISTIC DEPICTING WOMEN OF COLOR. I LOVE IT AND FEEL IT SHOULD BE IN EVERYONE'S COLLECTION.

Mrs. Hedstrom is my college writing teacher at Western Baptist College in Salem, Oregon. While I was in her office one afternoon she showed me this book, and I was really touched. The words of Scripture jump off the page and hit your heart. There are different sections in the book devoted to various emotions we feel as Christians on the road of life. I ended up purchasing the book for a man in my church who's wife recently died from cancer. The section on grief was really a comfort... realizing that no matter what happens in life God will never leave nor forsake His children. This book is filled with hope, encouragement, and comfort. I give it an "A+!"

A compilation of rhymes, poems, quotable quotes from famous people around the world fill the pages of this timeless tome, which is suitable and recommended for readers of all ages -- as well as their parents and grandparents!

Simplicity at its best! The art and the poetry flow together so beautifully -- obviously from the same heart. What a great housewarming gift!

This is just a beautiful little book. Practical upbeat message combined with great Victorian type artwoork adds up to a very nice work. Would make a great gift. (I gave it to my Mom)

This is a great read. It's been years since I've owned it, and I'm glad to have once again run across it. Bob stood for something...for many things. He had ideals, he was real, he was an honest man, and all of that comes through when he speaks. True, these are the words of an entertainer, but if that's the highest label you put on him, you really miss out on who he was and what he has to offer. Some of his views, you may not agree with; but remember that he stood by them, that he didn't back down from them, and more importantly that he lived what he talked. This is a good read, because it's light. If you are reader, like myself, then you can appreciate a lighter read at times, and this will provide that. One more thing, Robert Nesta Marley was more than just a face on a t-shirt or a face on blunt wrappers, he was a man who really made a difference in the world, more than many of the politicians, that talk about change and about rights, Robert Nesta Marley was a man who genuinely cared about people, and when you read the words he spoke all that comes through.

My title is taken from this little GEM.It was said by Joseph Joubert (1754-1824) and is applicable today as it was then.The little book I have was published in the USA in 1992.and carries ISBN 1-85015-268-3.I see where the cover is different than the one shown here and there are also others by the same title and author but with a different ISBN shown in Bookfinder.I suspect it is the same but recently reissued.
It is a great little book with quotations from people of all types who love books.It is a small 'Gift Book' that would make a wonderful gift to a friend who loves books.It has a hard cover,
is printed on very good paper and numerous illustrated pictures from the world of books.The quotations come from an array of people,including,Oliver Goldsmith,John Ruskin,Winston Churchill,FDR,Oscar Wilde,C.S.Lewis,Sherlock Holmes,Erica Jong,Helen Keller,Thomas Carlyle,Jane Austin,John Kieran,Mao Tse-Tung,Khrushchev,Walt Disney;just to show the diversity involved.
The editor has chosen a wide selection for this book and it is not surprising that it is still available.The only surprise to me is that mine is the first review.Maybe people are inclined to think such a little tome hardly warrants a review;obviously I feel otherwise.

This book is not only entertaining reading, it now occupies a place in my office bookshelf! In this book are great quotes, sayings, colloquialisms, and other "pearls of wisdom" that apply themselves wonderfully to your speeches and presentations too! I and my husband have read and enjoyed this book, and are always throwing quotes at each other from it (like, "...when you find yourself in a hole...STOP DIGGING!"). Not only is this a book you will want to treat yourself to, you will want to get a few to give as gifts, too!

This book attracted me at first only out of virtue of its title; I thought, "How many gay quotes can there BE?" Upon reading it, it turned out to be much more than a simple gay book, and is full of insights into person, health, truth, and love, along with the interestingly raunchy sayings and bizarre lines from obscure places. I recommend this.
