Great gift idea

I bought this for my mom (over 70 years old) since she always gets a kick out of Bush's mishaps. I did not get to see the book itself, however, after she unwrapped the gift on the phone, she cackled for several minutes as she was reading funny clips from the book. I felt like I got my money's worth from this gift. I give this 5 stars for my mom (since she doesn't have a computer)...because its obvious she enjoys the book.

The Mis-Communicator in Chief Speaks to Us

This is yet another volume of quotes from the Bush lexicon. It contains numerous new quotes, uttered since the last edition, as well as the top 25 greatest "Bushisms" of all time. Some are simply humorous, while some are laugh out loud funny and the collection will keep you entertained for quite a while. I personally keep mine handy and read the sayings again and again to remind myself why I volunteer at a high school. Buy it, read and enjoy it....it may be the last book of quotes we ever get from this great mis-communicator.

Master of the Aphorism

Richardson is a top poet - a lean, mean wordsmith of precision and probity. He is also the leading writer of the modern American aphorism. The two sides of the man fructify each other. There are delights on every page. A marvelous gift for literate friends with a good sense of humor.

"Vectors is a book of subversive wonders. Stunningly precise, these brilliant aphorisms and ten-second essays show a mind assessing, reassessing, discovering, and interrogating assumptions in ways that feel diamond-sharp, at once good natured, quietly sly at times, and always very, very shrewd. . .Vectors can now be added to the short list of such works that will truly last."-Laurie Sheck

Daily Meditations Collection of Kabbalistic Stories, Prayers
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-28
I have been a big fan of this book through several editions. I teach introductory classes on Kabbalah, and have found this book very helpful to both Jews and non-Jews who want a book with short, meaningful daily meditations on Kabbalistic stories, prayers, and spiritual advice. The author studied for years with a number of well-known Kabbalah teachers, and her careful selections of brief items from the Kabbalah make it more accessible to harried modern readers with heavily congested schedules.

Named for the mythical (?) and mystical kingdom in the East, Shambhala Publications is known for bringing some of the greatest and sometimes most obscure philosophical writings of Mankind to the attention of the general public. Heavily (though not exclusively) concerned with Buddhist and Taoist thought, Shambhala Pocket Classics are an attractive set of unabridged minibooks which fit comfortably in a shirt pocket, making them perfect for reading on planes, trains, and automobiles. Titles in the set include THE BOOK OF TEA, THE ART OF PEACE, ZEN FLESH, ZEN BONES, THE TIBETAN BOOK OF THE DEAD, TAO TE CHING, POEMS BY EMILY DICKINSON, THE ART OF WAR, and this volume, edited by Perle Besserman, THE WAY OF THE JEWISH MYSTICS.

A compendium of thought on such subjects as the nature of the Godhead, the purpose of human life, the essence of spiritual practice, and finding holiness in the mundane, THE WAY OF THE JEWISH MYSTICS is a splendid introduction to Kabbalah, from whence most of its readings are taken. The fascinating thing about THE WAY OF THE JEWISH MYSTICS is the universatility of its message: Nothing in these pages would be alien to Lao-Tzu, Hakuin, or Ueshiba O'Sensei, and certainly not Jesus; often the words are identical. For readers unfamiliar with Jewish spiritual writings, THE WAY OF THE JEWISH MYSTICS serves as a fine compass within this esoteric and little-known region of the human heart.

You would only be looking at this book if you love the movies, and if you love the movies, this is a book for you. The sheer volume of quotes is quite amazing. From the obscure to the well known and loved. It's a great book for compiling quiz questions or to simply flick through if you have a lazy moment. The very nature of the ever evolving movies means that of course it will quite quickly become out of date, but never obsolete as the quotes from these movies are timeless.

The more than 11,000 quotes in this book, consecutively numbered, are listed under 900 subject categories, as for instance Bodies, Money, etc. Within a subject category, the quotes are ordered by the year of release of the movie in which they appear.

This book provides the reader with a massive collection of motion picture quotations.

Richard Dillons book was helpful since generally people dont need a key word and it is quite useful to look up by author or subject because generally people are looking for an author or a subject and not just one word... this was an extremely helpful book.

This book simply presents a collection of thoughts of how folks define God. From the very young to the very old; the vary famous to the "man on the street"; from the very religious to the committedly atheistic. An wonderful liitle book for those of us who believe in spiritual pluralism.

This is a sadly under-rated book. It's full of marvelous quotations from new sources --some beautiful Chinese and Japanese quotes. I refer to it constantly and am really amazed that it's so unknown. A must have for serious readers.

Multicultural Wisdom

For quite some time quotes from various religions and cultures have intrigued me. Some of the best things in life appear when you are not even looking. Finding this book was one of those beautiful things that happens on a sunny afternoon in your favorite bookstore when you are not really looking, just browsing around drinking a hot chai tea.

"He who forgives ends the quarrel." -African Proverb

I was instantly intrigued with this beautiful book. The format is also very appealing and easy to read, with two columns of quotes on each page. The quotes are organized according to interesting and relevant topics. The detailed biographical Index not only gives the authors name and information, you can also find all the page numbers and topics for their quotes under their name.

"Like a child in its cradle
I would that very gentle arms
Might rock my grieving spirit
And be as it were a kindly shelter
For my heart-a traveler lost
On a remote deserted road."

Nguyen Vy

The best way to enjoy this book is to have a pen in hand and to mark each quote you enjoyed, because like a good cup of tea, you are going to want to enjoy reading these quotes again. I drew dreamy purple clouds around all my favorite quotes, passages and poems. This was my favorite quote:

"Literature must be an analysis of experience and a synthesis of the findings into a unity." -Rebecca West (1892-1983)

Some of the topics you might enjoy: Acceptance, Adventure, Beauty, Belief, Books and Reading, Charity, Compassion, Creativity, Dreams, Emotions, Family, Good and Evil, Happiness, Ideals, Joy, Last Words, Love, Meditation, Music, Oppression, Peace, Poetry, Reason, Sacrifice, Talent, Trust, Waiting, Will and Youth.

Reading "The Whole World Book of Quotations" will give you a unique perspective and actually I found reading this book had a calming effect on me.
