Wonderful Collection of Art and Quotes

My mother sent this to me for Mother's Day, and it is the best book I have ever seen of this kind. My mom sends me this type of thing frequently. This book, I couldn't stop looking at the artworks and reading the quotes. My daughter who is four also loved it and picked out all the little girls that she said were her. It would really touch the heart of every mother.

Although we are to never judge a book by it's cover, I am so glad that I did just that. I instantly fell in love with this book's famous print of "The Three Ages" by Gustav Klimt on the jacket. As I scanned the pictures within I knew the book was coming home with me, and that I would be ordering and sending a copy to all of my friends and family. As a mother and an obstetrical nurse it was a pure pleasure to find that in most of the portraits selected the mother is shown nursing her infant, the perfect bond. The phrases, quotes and narrations are beautifuly chosen and arranged as progression through a childs life. A superb gift for any woman and a delight to find on any coffee table!

Great humor for kids and adults
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-27
This is a very funny book. Robert Bender has polled thousands of school children on the best, the worst and the silliest advice they have to offer. There are gems such as "You're only a kid once -- get in trouble while you can" and "Never save your page with gum". Each page has four or five quotes with connected, humorous illustrations. A fun book to read a bit at a time. Might be useful book in a school setting during a unit about quotations or advice. This would make a wonderful present for a child in your life.

Sage Advice from the Young.....

Robert Bender, author of Lima Beans Would Be Illegal, polled thousands of schoolchildren around the country to find out what important advice they would give other kids and grown-ups, wrote it all down, and came up with this must read, down to earth book, Never Eat Anything That Moves: Good, Bad, and Very Silly Advice from Kids. Some entries are thoughtful... "Be the kind of person that you would like to know." "Old people aren't as old as you think." "Your worst may be someone else's best." Some are silly... "Don't cross the monkey bars without underwear." "Spraying your hair with milk and then drying it doesn't dye your hair blonde." "Make sure the fish is dead before you flush it." And some are just plain weird... "Don't put a bee on a leash." "Never eat a magnet when you have braces." "Use Brussels sprouts for golf balls." But each piece of sage advice is kid tested and filled with insight, wisdom, and definitely, lots of humor. So as Mr Bender tells us at the end... "Don't forget to have fun when you grow up. We're all kids at heart." Read, learn, and enjoy!

Once in a while a handy, little book comes along that should be required reading for every college grad seeking his or her fortune in the game of business. Richard Stiegele's book, Never Read A Newspaper At Yor Desk, is jammed-packed with extremely valuable advice from a seasoned pro. The author also has a tremendous sense of humour which is a rare quality in these somber, dog-eat-dog days of downsizing and cutbacks. The book contains 467 statements as well as an index with topics ranging from acquisitions to trendy books. Stiegele's pearls of wisdom are concise, practical, easy to read and no doubt worth its weight in gold. It's a book that has earned its place in your business library.

When I saw the title of this book, I couldn't resist. I love books of quotes, and this one is excellent. Over 200 pages of quotes, which are divided by topic area. A great book to ponder and think about. I especially enjoy finding quotes that match current leadership challenges or opportunities, as I find the best way to often lead through a new situation or effect change or transitions is with a quote that helps people see the point from a different perspective. This book is full of very thought provoking material.

I will leave you a few to whet your appetite, and then I encourage you to grab a copy of this book.

"Care for the truth more than what people think" - Aristotle (Page 93)

"We have this fantasy that if we just have enough information, we can control events" - Barbara Biesecker (Page 123)

"The measure of success is not whether you have a tough problem to deal with, but whether it's the same problem you had last year" - John Dulles (Page 165)

This is a great book, for a great price. Enjoy.

What a wonderful little book

Review Date: 2003-10-21
I saw this book at Nordstrom and picked it up for my wife (and myself I'll admit). We just had a baby and those of you who have, you know some of those nights can be long long long. What a wonderful little book. If you are feeling a little overwhelmed, just open it to any page and read. Within a few pages, you'll start feeling better. It's made up of little thoughts - one per page - and they are from parents and grandparents of children from new to adult sharing their ideas and all about parenting. We keep ours on the bedside table.

All the attention was on us - especially my wife - before the baby. Then, wham, we were out in the cold. This book was my gift to her and our gift to ourselves. It'd be a nice way to give the poor parents a little "love".

I love it!

What a wonderful little book to get or give as an uplfiting inspirational gift. I enjoyed reading this book and look at it everyday to remind myself how important my childre are, and how lucky I am to be a parent. I recommend this book for any new parent or someone who is becoming a parent for the first time. The author, Jean Fiumara, did a great job writing this book!

A small collection of vivid sporting images and macho, psych-me-up soundbite texts, this book looks like a collection of Tag-Heuer commercials. It is expensive for its size, but a good buy ONLY for those of you who savor Nietzschean words and images and like to be inspired every now and then by strong words and images of athletes in determined action.

Buy one for yourself, and one for a friend.

This truly collectible book, full of action photography and life related motivational messages is great for your desk, nightstand, or anywhere. The book is not a bunch of t-shirts all put together, but rather notes and photos designed for serious inspiration that will hold the attention of anyone from ten to one-hundred ten. A great gift for sports enthusiats, teens, or anyone familiar with No Fear as the book relates to everyone. I thoroghly enjoyed it, reference it regualrly, and have given it to several friends in the past couple of years.

You never know what will be on the next page in this compilation of wall-writings. The quotes range from being funny, sad, ironic, cynical, and some even contained good advice. It is interesting to read what people from all over America have to say during school or while going to the bathroom. Some of the things said my not be appropriate for smaller children, so I would recommend this book to people 14 or older. Overall, i give this book a 5 out of 5 because you never know what to expect but when you turn the page, you are never disappointed. This is do-not-miss book, and I urge you to get a copy quick.

An ideal bathroom book: full of thirty second anecdotes. I'm no historian, but reasonably well read, and as best I can tell, almost all of these stories are true. It features the humorous, scandalous, and tragic. An excellent side view of US history.

A Somewhat Freaky Passion?
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2001-10-22
As a voracious reader and aspiring writer, I was naturally drawn to this book. I really had no expectations. What I found however was a real treasure. What a great collection of stories!

I never really gave much thought to writing a book about books but Graffagnino has, along with the many incredible writers quoted in this book. You'll find passages/quotes from most popular authors as well as many famed authors. (I have a pillow in my study quoting Thomas Jefferson, "I cannot live without books." You'll find this quote among many others in this excellent compilation.)

Truly a great book on books relating the feelings your favorite authors have relative to books. For any bibliophile, this book is a must have.

A delightful collection of quotes for all bibliophiles.
