I was delighted to find this little book...packed with wisdoms based on the life experiences of the author and valuable for anyone seeking spiritual growth as well as support in recovery. Easy to read, I get out my highlighter for those phrases that hit home with me. I will buy and send this book to those people in my life who are "awakening" to living the best life for them. It follows the "new", but not really new, philosophy of The Law of Attraction and the inherent basics of spirituality. A true treasure!

I found this book and thought how nice it would be for one of my nieces to give to her mother on Mother's Day. It is a beautiful book.

If you have been searching for the perfect Mother's Day gift, your search is over. This is a lovely collection of paintings and verse, which can be personalized with your own thoughts and memories of your mother. I liked the ability to enhance the book with my own thoughts, and still have a nice collection of Kincaid's work in one small volume. It is very nice for a birthday, or any special time when you want your mom to remember what a special person she is in your life. This one is a must!

Breast cancer survivors share thoughts, tips.
Helpful Votes: 48 out of 49 total.
Review Date: 1999-08-30
This handbook almost does fit your hand. Easy to slip in a purse, its unpretentious, unsentimental, and yet quite comforting. Breast cancer survivor, Margit Porter has put together a collection of tips and reassurances from others who have been down her road. They range in age from 29 to 86, but are weighted on the young side (Porter herself was 35 when diagnosed). Many of their quotes are succinct lessons in how to tell it like it is without being discouraging. E.g.

"I was on CMF. It made everything taste metallic, so I ate with plastic utensils."

"Chemotherapy is not a picnic...but it is survivable. I had inflammatory breast cancer, underwent an autologous bone marrow transplant, and I'm still here. Remember what your goal is."

"There is no sensation in my reconstructed breast, so sexually I feel nothing when it is touched. I do, however, feel sexier having both of my breasts."

There a list of resources in the back and good illustrations of scarf and turban tying.

Will appeal to: Any woman facing breast cancer treatment. Younger women may resonate especially to the many age-peers represented in the book.

Excellent book for those newly diagnosed

This small book can fit in your pocket and give helpful advice at any time. The advice from survivors of breast cancer is organized by topic. Each piece of advice gives the name of the survivor (usually just the first name), her age at the date the book was published, and the date of her diagnosis. Just seeing women who had been diagnosed 30 years ago was heartening.

The advice itself is very practical and useful, and goes over the items that woment had undergone. A worthwhile book. After I read it, I passed it along to a friend who was also undergoing chemo - we both found it immensely cheering.

This is an excellent, inspirational book that kids enjoy reading. However, I didn't get a copy from Amazon; the one I did get came from Borders. Much to my dismay and disappointment, Amazon didn't inform me for 3 weeks after I placed the order that it hadn't been delivered to my grandson for his First Communion gift as I had expected. The first one I bought went to another grandson, so now I am on the look-out for another one.

This book is such a treasure for children and adults as well.
I recently shared this book with a local school in Fiji, while I was there doing a bit of volunteer work. These children absolutely loved it. It opened their minds to the possibilities
awaiting them in life.
Use Your Voice and read this to your children and see how we can all make a positive difference in our world.

Upon stumbling in on a nude Winston Churchill as he was a guest in the white house, Churchill said to Franklin Delanor Roosevelt "The Prime Minister of Britain has nothing to hide from the President of the United States." - "I'll Be Sober In the Morning: Great Political Comebacks, Put downs, & Ripostes" shows that some of the most powerful men in the world have also have been some of the most sharp-witted. Filled cover to cover with countless retorts and hilarious vocal burns, and charmingly illustrated by Steve Stegalin, "I'll Be Sober In the Morning: Great Political Comebacks, Put downs, & Ripostes" is highly recommended to humor shelves everywhere with a nod to political studies shelves.

Loved this little book - it reads quickly, and is a great compendium of comebacks and putdowns by the rich and famous. Good stocking stuffer for pursuers of political trivia, opponents of the politically correct, and for those like me who always say "I wish I'd said that!". I only wish it had been longer.

Ignorance

When I go to the bookstore there is always the guy who shoves in front of me, the woman who takes out a couple of my toes with her stroller, etc. I yelp and they turn to look at me, surprised. "Sorry. Didn't see you." I look into their eyes. I can't get blame them because THEY ARE TELLING THE TRUTH. They really have no consciousness of the big, bearded guy (me) in front of them -- or even New York City (where I live) maybe.

I feel these people are lucky to be so carefree, so will-o'-the-wisp, so ignorant of the world outside their own worlds. No worry lines for them! Now cartoonist Heather Down has written a IGNORANCE IS BLISS reminding us that these people are the luckiest people.

Now I'm a bit lucky since I discovered Ms. Down's book. She can make me laugh without shoving me. Give this and LOOKING FOR MR. RIGHT to someone you know and love. Buy a copy for yourself too. Or I'll run a stroller over your feet! ;)

Rebeccasreads highly recommends IMPRESSIONS OF THE NATURAL WORLD as an entrancing marriage between photographic brilliance & thought-enhancing inspiration.

Sometimes I feel silly reviewing a book of images, knowing that not even a thousand words will come close to describing this photographer's orange sunset over water; bay horse cantering through yellow meadow; panorama of river, forest & mountains; yellow flower against green grass; sunlight upon snow-covered trees; butterfly upon blossom; mushrooms at dawn; hay barn in snow; pelican portrait, to tell of a few.

Every page will entice you into smiles, memories, wonder & joy.

My whole family (father, mother, and son) enjoyed this beautiful book. I enjoyed the wonderful photographs and accompaning quotations. Each was complementary to the other. Sometimes I just looked at the photographs. Sometimes I just read at the quotations.

Michael Impellizzeri is a gifted photographer. My son and I met him at Isle Royale National Park in June of 2000. I assume he was creating material for a future book which I look forward to enjoying.

Librarian Reference Association

Review Date: 2005-02-12
If you are preparing a speech, which you want to find good quotes on specific subjects, this is a good choice. There may be some thicker books with more pages, some older quotation references but by far this tome is a wonderfully better book than others with more quotations. This volume is organized by category. It makes all the difference in the world, compared to going to the index in the back of the book, then searching for each quote referred to in the subject index, as Bartlett's Quotations forces you to do. If you are a professional librarian, often called upon to produce gems to sparkle a speech, then this is the book for you. I have several hundred quotation reference books and material, dating back to 1590 and a computer database of over 50,000 quotations, and state that this book is an indisputable welcome addition.

Well Organized, Solid Material

I agree with the first reviewer. The strenghs of the book are in the way it's organized; lots of content, and I was able to browse the quotes by category and still look up quotes by a particular author by using the index. The quotes of course are very good, many of which I had not seen before, and its ease of use has for me made it a welcome (and often better) resource than the library or the Internet for a quick piece of wit or wisdom. Plus the book itself is very lightweight; I've used it for casual conversation as well as for in-depth research. I especially like the quotes for Business and Science. Great stuff.

Essential to read before you see these memorials
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-13
Fresh and original, "Inscriptions of a Nation" fills a hole in history and travel books. This slim volume contains the inscriptions on Washington, D.C.'s major monuments and memorials. The author, Clint Ensign, prefaces each featured memorial with a brief synopsis of the monument and why it or the person it commemorates is significant to our history. However, the book's main purpose is to present the inscriptions on these memorials.

By truly reading and understanding these passages, the purposes of the memorials become even clearer. Usually, a tourist doesn't have time to appreciate the wisdom and strength of Abraham Lincoln's words when confronted by his massive memorial, but careful study of the quotations leads to understanding that a monument is more than a massive statue, but rather a tribute to an idea.

Ensign admits this is not a comprehensive work, but the prominent monuments as of 1994 are featured here. This book sorely needs to be updated and put back in print.
