I got this book last week and my grandkids love it. It is beautifully illustrated and the message is very important. Our society has come to worship book smarts (but that is only ONE kind of smart). All kids need to know that they are smart in their own special way and this book shows them that. I highly recommend it ... and take advantage of the parent tips in the back to help guide your little one into a discussion about his/her own brain.

I've bought a copy of this book for several children. Every time, the reaction has been the same. The child so loved the book that he/she wanted to take it to school for show and tell. Then the teacher would also so love the positive message of the book, that she would break her own rule and read the book to the class several times. One teacher praised the book so highly that I bought her a copy for future classes. This is a wonderful investment in a child's self-image and gives parents and teachers ideas for re-enforcing the child's individuality. I wish this book had been around when my kids were little. I keep an extra copy on hand ready to give when the opportunity arises. Thank you, Dr. Hallowell.

We recieved this book as a gift a couple of years ago. My child (Katie)loved it and still selects it for story time. She enjoys the story and the graphics. Katie has enjoyed the story as it is written and often makes up her own version. It is one of a few books she has taken to her friends house. As a parent I love the message about how everyone is special in some way. A message most of us didn't recieve when we were growing up.

I've owned this book for twenty years. I was a small child when I first got it as a present, and forced my parents to read it to me again and again and again. Now that I am an acting and storytelling teacher for young children, I was looking through old books to use in my class. I came across this one, read through it again, and was won over all over again. Whether you are a young child, a parent of a young child or a teacher of young children (or perhaps just young at heart) you will no doubt have a wonderful time reading this book. (And, even if you're all alone, I suggest reading it out loud.)

This was the longest book my two-year-old would sit through... again and again and again. She loved acting the part of the little heroine and readily recited "you throw him out!" with much enthusiasm. The drawings are entertaining and the end is lovely. I would whole-heartedly recommend this darling story.

A masterpiece not to be judged by the misleading cover that does not match the depth of the book. Really well done.

I got this book because I have moles and wanted to learn more about them and understand the diagnosis and treatment for melanoma.
The glossary and index were very helpful. The best aspect for me was the photos of moles and the chapter on skin warning signs.
Part I of the book starts with recognizing and preventing melanoma. Part II of the book focuses on Melanoma and the treatment. Part III is the less common types along with research.
I found this book to be a wonderful resource as I hit 45. The diagrams are useful as well.

The first book in the Rockett series is the longest one and its totally exciting finding out what the characters are going to do and their reactions, one of the features of the book. Its funny because of the previous war between Rockett & Nicole [play the pM games] and finding out how Rockett uses her Nicole picture to give Nicole what she deserves...or does she?

This is a good realistic fiction book. It's very realistic. Perfect for ages 8-11.
The best parts of the book were the CONFESSION SESSIONs, where you get to see what all the minor characters are thinking.

Mr. Dunning gives his readers insight to real people living in the South through his story of a fictional Mack Oliver, a man who finds himself in a real-life situation where he is unable to help himself. This book is more than a crime novel, as it explores and explains how people are perceived and treated differently because of their standing in society. His portrayal of the legal system's inadequate treatment of the mentally ill is very accurate.

Who's Mack OliverThis book is brilliantly written !!!
I believe "Who's Mack Oliver?" could and should be used as a teaching guide to help individuals take notice how they interact with different cultures in our society today. The way Mr. Dunning depicts the characters within this story is superb !!!
Individuals that read this novel will be pleasantly surprised the way you can follow each character; their role in the story; and, the interaction of each character to the completion of the story.
You may find yourself in one of the characters personality; how they reacted in their situation; and/or how your experiences identify with Mack Oliver.
I recommend this book to everyone with the greatest of pleasure !!!

It also makes you stop and think about all the homeless people out there.

This novel is so real that it seams that you are walking on the Birmingham streets. Dunning plays with his knowledge of the English language using very rich vocabulary; some descriptions are Poet's work. He also has a profound knowledge of the Human behavior and a strong historical background with a clear understanding of what is really happening in this Country; all the silent but brutal racial and religious conflicts. Overall, this is an excellent masterpiece that deserves to be in any best-seller's collection.

I've been on both sides of the job interview process: as someone doing the hiring and also as a candidate for a job. It is amazing how being on the job hunt alters your view of the interview process. Did I develop some kind of "interview fever" which made me overly nervous and forget what it was like to hire someone? Maybe. But reading Winning Job Interviews allowed me to step back and put it all back into proper perspective so I could ace the interview and get the job. How cool is that?

The first 40 pages will tell you what you really know: how you feel. And how to deal with it. With an upbeat language helps you decrease your anxiety and depression. And further, MOTIVATE you.
Then clear clues on how to behave, conduct, and win interviews.
I wish he could avoid some areas of job searching and closing to have more material on the topic.
But IT IS A MUST READ.

To be honest, before reading Dr. Power's book-the thought of joining the rat-race of the whole job interview process was more formidable than facing another deployment to the desert! At 40 years old I haven't had to go on a job interview in over 20 years! This book was not only fun to read, but offered great tips, warned against common pit falls (I was sure to fall into) and helped me plan out my strategy to attain my future career. It's hard to imagine, but after reading this candid, well-written book I feel not only self-confident but actually excited about my upcoming interviews!

This book was definitely money well spent. I have interviewed and accepted jobs previously in my career (10yrs in my profession), but have never been as prepared as I was after reading this book. I used it from the start of the job hunt process to accepting the best overall offer. Reading the book helped ease pre-interview anxiety, and also helped me prepare for interviews by providing a good idea of what to expect, how to prepare, and how to answer difficult questions, etc. The sections I found most helpful were on generating multiple offers, and negotiating after the initial offer. I used Dr Powers advice on both, and was able to generate multiple offers and negotiate significantly higher salary and vacation time. Well worth the money and I would recommend this book to anyone currently on the job hunt.

This is a nice guide that gives you a nice illustrated overview. It not only describes women's health issues but even touches on subjects such as gastric reflux and strokes. Overall a good guide and good value a bit basic for a health care professional but to the point. Well done!

I love this book because it covers so many different topics, yet keeps it simple and easy to understand. I think it's important for women today to take charge of their health. The more you know about your own body, the sooner you can detect what it is and how to fix it. And, as research shows, the earlier the better. To this book, I make a toast, "Here's the women's health!"
A great book for women of all ages

We need more books like this... well-illustrated, easy to understand, and highly informative. In fact, I thought it did such a good job explaining the basics of women's health that I bought copies for all my female relatives who span in ages from early 20's to early 70's.

Well, the editors of this reference book tried their best to make it colorful and interesting for "kids," and they did succeed to a certain extent.
I learned that less than 500,000 people live in the state of Wyoming; the Dodgers finished under .500 in 1999; most world currencies, except the British pound, are worth less than the U.S. dollar; and so forth.
One thing about dated reference works, like this one: they quickly become historical reference works.
Another good thing about it: you can thumb through this book quickly and only stop when your interest is really piqued, if ever. Otherwise, donate it someone else. That's what I did.
Diximus.

Rarely is a reference book a popular title in our elementary school library. This is currently our most requested book. It's visually appealing. It's filled with facts and information that kids need for reports, but it's also filled with the kind of things kids are always curious about. It's fun for browsing as well as research. Highly recommended!

I may not have this book but I do have the 1999 edition of the Almanac for kids and it is great. Every chance I get I use it. If i liked the 1999 edition i know the 2001 is even better and I'm sure You'll like it too.

I have two daughters, ages 8 and 13, and they both love this book. It's packed with everything they want to know, and much more. The color pictures make it even more interesting, and they love the puzzles and quizzes. Every parent with kids should get this book!
