There is perhaps no medical specialty that has more misconceptions, "wives tales" and variation than Obstetrics. Williams Obstetrics is more exhaustively comprehensive than any other text for general Obstetrics. Williams has long prided itself on presenting "evidence-based medicine" - separating the wives tales from medical knowledge obtained from published studies from peer-reviewed journals. Perhaps there are those who prefer their Obstetrics with a little voodoo. For those who want to know the most up-to-date scientifically based Obstetrics, Williams is your book!

A REAL WORLD GUIDE TO PARTNERSHIPS
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2001-06-21
Complex topics such as partnerships tend to be covered in a very fragmented manner. Partners.com does not have this problem. Cunningham ably deals with the people, process, technology and market issues that forge partnerships, but also how to manage, measure and change them. Rarely are these areas covered in sufficient detail, but here there is a roadmap with milestones and strategies that are working in the marketplace. Partners.com does for partnerships what Patti Seybold's Customers.com did for customer relationships. A classic!

Don't be fooled by the .com in the title- this is for all

This book is a prize! For those that are looking for the details behind partnerships the information here is not only relevant, but very comprehensive. The mixture of technology, strategy and culture required to pull of good partnerships is difficult for organizations trying to make it happen. Cunningham provides not only a great roadmap, but illustrated with real world examples of what has and has not worked. Do not be fooled by the .com in the title, this book is targeted at all businesses. I particularly liked the sections on self-service Partnerships and the "most important partners, your staff". A practical piece with great strategic insight. Organizations will be able to use this to hone their competitiveness, internal and external consultants will buy to emulate all that has been learned on this topic.

Masao Masuto has a rose garden and practices Zen Buddhism. He is also the only Nisei detective in the Beverly Hills Police Department, a man who uses karate, not guns, and who brings to his job both a wry, reflective humor and an almost intuitive skill for the riddle of a crime. Here, in the second of a series featuring this complexsao finds himself risking his job-and the life of his child Ana-on the strength of his guesses.

In the predawn hours an unidentified man is found in the lavish pool of the Beverly Glen Hotel-not a mark on the body. A few hours later a guest is murdered. By the time an officious FBI agent has been dispatched from Washington to "handle" the case, Masuto is following his own leads into a world of espionage and terrorism.

Anti-simpatico

Review Date: 2007-11-25
J.V. Cunningham is an interesting poet, but not, to me, a loveable one. Does a poet have to be loveable? No, decidedly not. Certainly not in the sense of cuddly or adorable. What I guess I mean is "simpatico". Cunningham does everything he can to be anti-simpatico. From his earliest poems, he expresses a profound distrust of the "will", which I take to be disorderly impulse, unruly desire. What does he prefer? "... I praise / Far lamps at night, / Cold landmarks for reflection's gaze. / Distant they still remain, / Oh, unassailed, apart!" Apollo, in other words. Dionysius is just too too. As a result, his poems are often dense, extremely compacted, frequently, at least early in his career, obscure. Slowly, over time, he developed his specialty - the epigram, the ultimate in classical clarity and concision. But these are not the witticisms of Oscar Wilde or Walter Savage Landor (what names for the masters of the merciless bon mot, Wilde & Savage!). Here are three samples from Cunningham:

"The ladies in my life, serially sexed,
Unscrew one lover and screw in the next." [The title is "The Lights of Love."]

"Death in this music dwells, I cease to be
In this attentive, taut passivity."

"All hastens to its end. If life and love
Seem slow it is their ends we're ignorant of."

There are many interesting (that word again!) things in this collection. Some of these are: (1) Watching Cunningham evolve throughout the course of his first volume "The Helmsman." (2) The highly simpatico introduction and notes by poet Timothy Steele. (3) Translations of several authors, mostly ancient, whose spirit Cunningham certainly shares. Here's one example, from Martial:

"Sabinus, I don't like you. You know why?
Sabinus, I don't like you. That is why."

"Maples in the slant sun/The gay color of decay./Was it unforgiveable,/My darling, that you loved me?" The sequence "To What Strangers, What Welcome" by J.V. Cunningham is one of the finest sets of love poems in all of English literature. Spare, mature, formally remarkable, indescribably sad. This book is worth having for those 14 poems alone.

I too stumbled upon this collection by accident. A fan of the typical, high-school-recommended-poets, this collection struck me with inspiration. The poems have great meaning with their simplicity and powerfulness. It's one to buy copies for friends and families because once you start reading, you'll want to share.

I discovered J.V. Cunningham quite by accident. I cannot thank the powers that be enough for this 'accident.' Cunningham is the most forward, bold poet of his time. A true classic, no library should be without his work.

The revised and updated version of B2B (paperback edition) reflects the changes in the market since the first version was published. As the author of the book, I would like to thank both the input from the press, editors, industry analysts and users of B2B technologies for their experiences and knowledge to keep this title current. I hope that others still find this a useful blueprint for the development and delivery of their stategies.

Michael J. Cunningham, founder and CEO of the Harvard Computing Group, has provided strategies and best practices to launch a business-to-business E-Commerce solution for your organization. Financial transfers, online exchanges, auctions, delivery of products and services, supply-chain activities and integrated business networks are all examples of B2B e-commerce. Business-to-business E-commerce is a rapidly growing market. The author guides you through the process from transforming an intranet into an extranet, using portals and digital procurement systems, finding partners, selecting applications and software and finally designing architecture and infrastructure for a B2B business. He has also included a list of best practices used by successful B2B E-commerce companies.

B2B: It's about creating value

Review Date: 2001-04-12
Many organizations today are focused on the bad news in the B2B markets. Failing exchanges, dot com crashes and vendor and consulting layoffs. In my experience, B2B is and will be a potent weapon the the development and optimization of business processes and technology to support new and better ways of conducting business. Collaborative technologies, widespread affordable communication and faster to implement solutions will allow winning firms to take the lead in this segment of the market. While some start-ups have failed, most are because they were not adding enough value to their clients and partners in the first place. B2B technology, tools and platforms are providing the opportunity for organizations to improve and optimize their position in the market. There are good examples of start-ups, existing businesses and others moving to leverage the Internet sprinkled throughout this book. Winning strategies are built by companies following good business practices and being innnovative in their approach to the market. This book was obviously created as a blueprint for individuals and organizations that are looking for a path through this maze. The examples are based on strategies that have worked and produced excellent results for the firm's using them. Like all technologies and strategies there are winners and losers. Emulating winners is still the best way that we know to reduce risk at the early stages in the marketplace. This book helps others achieve this goal, by providing guidance on the good, bad and the ugly of this complex subject. An powerful and comprehensive read.

An Informative Guide to B2B

I was extremely pleased with this informative book. Cunningham clearly explained the ins and outs of B2B in a clear and thourough fashion, making this book a great guide as to how to improve B2B strategy most effectively. It was a superb introduction to B2B strategy, as Cunningham was able to address the many issues associated with B2B and instruct on the best ways to use B2B to the advantage of your business. A comprehensible guide to understanding the newest revolution in international commerce. Great as an introduction for those new to B2B, as well as a guide for experienced business professionals looking for a tool to enhance their commerce.

B2B - Bible.

Review Date: 2001-04-18
Charles Stevens, this is possibly the best B2B book I have ever read. Cunningham provides a clear-cut approach to B2B business. He clearly defines differences and avoids excessive jargon making this book ideal for the experiences business professional or anyone new to the field. It was key in developing the fundamentals and our approaches of our own corporate B2B plan. As sacrilegious as it may be this book has been our B2B Bible. 75% of business - to - business transactions for computers, electronics, and storage are done online. There is a need to develop B2B commerce, improving systems and methods are crucial. People and corporations are hesitant about investing in the Internet because of the current tension in the ecommerce market highlighted by the media. Let it be understood that the failings of high-profile corporations should not be a reflection on the B2B market. Even considering this media-driven pseudo-bear market the estimated revenue from B2B business for 2004 exceeds 3 trillion dollars. Pick up this book, at the very least flip through it at the bookstore (and take notes).
