This is a well intentioned book to help women of all ages reconnect with eachother. After reading the book I would like to recommend reading two books by Leanne Payne: Restoring the Christian Soul: Overcoming Barriers to Completion in Christ through Healing Prayer and The Broken Image: Restoring Personal Wholeness through Healing Prayer in order to be able to be truly healed and able to actually carry out the directives contained in Nurture.

This book has already made an impact on my life and I JUST finished reading it this morning. From mothering to missionary work - this book will inspire you to make a difference.

Lisa Bevere has an incredible gift of reaching into the hearts of women and helping them become free. As you read this book, you will laugh, cry and ponder how to bring nurture into more areas of your life. Your gifts will flourish and all those around you will be touched! Thank you Lisa for pouring into our lives so we can become more than we ever dreamed.

I was so happy that Lisa addressed peer-to-peer relationships.

After reading NURTURE I started seeing my own peer-to-peer relationships growing, as I let my guard down and started to realize that I have some amazing things to offer those around me.

It's helping me work through the rejection I have often felt in peer relationships.

As Lisa says, this is the time to address the importance of holy, right and encouraging peer relationships with other women and those around us.

While it is clear that physical characteristics are inherited, it is still a debate today if an individual's behavior, intelligence, and personality are more impacted by their nurture vs their nature.
Webster's Dictionary defines "Nurture" as:

1. to give tender care and protection to a young child, animal, or plant, helping it to grow and develop.

2. to encourage somebody or something to grow, develop, thrive, and be successful.

I now realize after reading Lisa Bevere's book 'Nurture', that I am flourishing today only because God has positioned me under the nurturing care of a spiritual-mother; who was watching, waiting, and believing in me. I needed someone to say "You can do it because I've done it", and recognize my ability to be more than I was. God has placed the desire to nurture those around us on the inside of every woman. Even if it's something you've never had for yourself- it is available and attainable for every woman as it's outlined so clearly and practically throughout `Nurture'. Lisa always relays her messages so personally; it's just not possible for you to read this book and not be changed!

The hallmark of brilliance is to take a complex process and make it understandable. This book not only accomplishes that, but it engrosses you in scientific fields that I didn't know could be interesting. Lane brings together a vast array of scientific disciplines, ties them all together. Even if you were not keen on some aspects of the book (for example, I have a medical background, not geochemistry), you'll enjoy the diversions. This is truly one of the best science books every written.

I read the 2003 paperback of the 2002 book.

Once again, people looked at me strangely when taking a glimpse at the title of the book I was reading. Did I wonder off into chemistry nerdhood? Not really. This book is about a kaleidoscope of issues: the origins of life, sex and sexes; photosynthesis, snowball earth, mitochondria; oxygen poisoning, free radicals, anti-oxidants; ageing, diabetes, dementia; the rise and fall of gigantism in insects and dinosaurs. And the occasional frightening statistic: How many million tons of water are lost to space every year, how many million billion free radicals are taken in with a single puff of cigarette smoke?

This book is a perfect example of how important it is to keep up with the doubling of knowledge every five years. The book was already more than five years old when I read it, yet I felt ancient considering the intake of new knowledge. Keep in mind that much of the book is theories in need to get fine tuned, combined with other knowledge or even turned over. But without such brilliant minds as the author's, we wouldn't be able to.

The minor subtraction in my rating mirrors the slight repetitiveness (slight in relation to other books, which are much more repetitive than this), that some sections are a bit difficult and that occasionally Nick Lane wrote verbosely, i.e. in quite long sections not at all about oxygen, but for a supposed preparation for a better overstanding of the oxygen-issues to come. There's also a considerate overlap with his later book Power, Sex, Suicide: Mitochondria and the Meaning of Life, nevertheless recommendable to read in addition.

There are other/additional/supporting/varying theories about some issues he is elaborating on in "Oxygen". For example about ageing read also The Science of Orgasm and Mutants: On the Form, Varieties and Errors of the Human Body. For the origin of sex and sexes read also Symbiotic Planet: A New Look At Evolution, Liaisons of Life: From Hornworts to Hippos--How the Unassuming Microbe has Driven Evolution and Riddled with Life: Friendly Worms, Ladybug Sex, and the Parasites That Make Us Who We Are.

This book is a hard read if you don't have a good background in natural science and chemistry, but if you do it is fascinating.

The author seems to do a very balanced approach to the topics citing references on both sides of the issues discussed.

The book takes you from the formation of the earth to modern times and discusses the changes that occurred to the earth and its inhabitants as free oxygen developed.

A review for science teachers:

Nick Lane in Oxygen: the molecule that made the world [OUP 2002] presents the history of the world as narrated by a biochemist. Controversial, thought provoking and very original, Oxygen synthesises Earth's geology, why there is life on Earth but not on Mars, the evolution of photosynthesis (and respiration), why there are only exactly two sexes and why we age.

Earth's oxygen was liberated when uv light split water; the hydrogen first escaped into space but the oxygen remained, reacting with the rocks, forming reactive free radicals. 3.85 Billion years ago, LUCA (the Last Universal Common Ancestor; a concept not a fossil) had to have antioxidant enzymes, all of which survive in living organisms today: haemoglobin, oxide dismutase, catalase, peroxiredoxins, and could respire oxygen. Twinned catalase units formed the basis for water-splitting, oxygen producing photosynthesis, that arose only once on earth and may be unique in the cosmos, generating a positive feedback cycle where excess oxygen now recombined with hydrogen to form water. Water was the first gift of photosynthesis. The second was oxygen itself.

Every year, there seems to be one outstanding popular science book. I loved this one for its fusion of ideas: snowball Earth; the difference between mitochondria in animals that age quickly with those with high metabolic rates that are long lived, why women's ova remain in suspended animation after birth, not dividing. Oxide radicals are a consistent theme in the explanations.

This is the only really good book I've read about the evolution, history and chemistry of life. It's especially good when it is least philosophical. As when pondering over the likely order of ways to handle elemental oxygen - as it (or it's relatives peroxide or superoxide) most probably had to be handlet even before it was produced by plants. - And here are no tiresome stories about geologists having to travel around. It's on topic and well written.

There is something delicious for everyone to chow-down on. The recipes are easy to follow and the finished dish is wonderful. I absolutely love this book and keep it handy so I don't have to panic if a family member or friend suddenly decides to visit without notice. Most of my family members and friends are usually starving when they drop by. Now thanks to the Taylor family of men chefs I don't have to worry about what I'll make them to eat...No More Panic For Me! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!!!

As a birthday gift this year a friend through me a huge party and used a few of the recipes in this fun cookbook including the drink recipes...my one word response was simply WOW! Thanks to the men cooks in this family my party was a real winner. As a second birthday gift my friend gave me a copy of this book. Needless to say I was thrilled! Now, I can hardly wait to through my own dinner party with all the trimings! (I highly recommend this cookbook, it's the best!)

This book is loaded with farout recipes and advice. A great book for those who may need a little help in the kitchen (like me.) Talk about a useful kitchen tool!

In his quarterly newsletter, Robert Stanek, author of "The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches" and many other books for young people, regularly features the books of new and upcoming authors as well as his favorite established authors. He's done this for the past four years. In his October/Fall newsletter, Mr. Stanek features three upcoming authors and one was Victoria Taylor Murray.

While I wasn't sure if Ms. Murray's Lambert series was right for me (her other ones are mystery/romance), I knew at once "Passed Down Through 4 Generations: Victoria Taylor Murray's Favorite Family Recipes: How it all Began" was my kind of book, and equally as important, it was a book my wife would enjoy as well.

As the name implies ""Passed Down Through 4 Generations," has great history behind the recipes. Ms. Murray wrote this book with her brother Joseph. Having tried the recipes, I can say there are many great ones, and more than a few that have become new favorites. I enjoy cooking, and I enjoyed this book. Recommended for any chef or chef to be.

I'm a kind of glitzy girl who loves to dress up and be glamourous, so it's a surprise to people who first meet me that I really know my way around a kitchen. As my hubby always says, "That girl can cook anything ... from gourmet to Southern." And I'm proud to admit that I truly enjoy cooking. Always have ...

Another thing I dearly love is my family and I'm very sentimental about family connections. The title of this cookbook intrigued me because of the family involvement, but then when I read that the author's brother is a chef who joined her in this venture, I just HAD to buy it.

I'm glad I did. I've already prepared some of the fine dishes and they smelled so good, my hubby couldn't wait to sit down to dinner. He's raving to all the neighbors about this cookbook too.

Thanks to both Taylors for the fine dining experiences. We look forward to many more, and I'm baking several of the yummy pastries for our church brunch on Father's Day.

I highly recommend this book. Before I read this book I was really struggling with the direction I wanted to go in life. Even though I have a master's degree in my profession, I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue in my profession. I've read a few books on career planning and I've taken a few assessment tests. While I found a few gold nuggets here and there, I just didn't have the clarity and assurance I was looking for. I read passion and purpose and it really helped me. Also, I contacted Marlys Hanson and she walked me through each step and helped me understand why I was struggling with my current position and she helped me see what I need to look for in my next position. The money and time I spent reading this book and being counseled by Marlys was one of the best investments I've ever made.

Before I completed the SIMA analysis presented in this book, I was ready to change employers, and even careers. However, I did not know what I wanted. The SIMA model is an excellent tool because it helps you identify how you are motivated to work, what you are motivated to work with, and what kind of results you are motivated to achieve. All of this is based on a careful analysis of your lifetime accomplishments - thus, your motivations are based on evidence from what you've actually done, not what you *think* you're interested in (e.g., if given multiple choice answers in the standard personality test).

I went through the book myself first and then contacted Marlys to help me "fill-in-the blanks". Marlys was very prompt in responding and turned around a full assessment within one week. The result is that I now understand why I didn't enjoy my previous jobs, and most importantly, I know what I need in my current job to derive satisfaction and enjoyment from my work. Now, I can clearly articulate my career and life goals because I know what my strengths are, and I will build upon them to achieve the greatest success. I look forward to being much happier and excited about my work as well!

Amazing insight contrary to most popular opinion. The exercise is an investment in time that pays off hundreds of fold. Better yet, the author is more than willing to take the exercise to the next level to really bring it all to life. One of the best investments I've made in years - in time and dollars!

I have spent many years as a psychologist counseling clients who lack a sense of fulfillment and meaning in their lives. I therefore read this book, and underwent the SIMA process, with great interest. I found that it was the most accurate, powerful, and comprehensive instrument that I have encountered to understand one's motivated abilities. I highly recommed this book to anyone serious about reaching their potential doing work that they enjoy.

Itam was on time and is recommendend for all women to read even if you don't FEEL like your in a pit.

Initially, I bought the Praying for Purpose book to infuse my daily quiet time (plus it was on sale). I was enjoying Praying for Purpose so much that I decided to take the advice at the front of the book and read Pathway to Purpose as the foundational book. Significant time elapsed between my buying the book and actually reading it--mainly because the longer chapters were daunting when combined with my hectic schedule. Nevertheless, I knew I need to really delve into it because I am at a watershed period in my life. Well, once I began reading I was drawn into the contents. I was particularly struck by the author's relation of her own story. She writes with strategic candor--sharing vignettes of her life with precise relativity to the principle being shared. I was not able to fully relate to the first 2 chapters but I appreciated their advance wisdom. I am still working my way through both books because ever so often I stumble on something that takes me a few days to "soak in." Nevertheless, I've enjoyed Pathway to Purpose so much, I bought copies for each of my Women's Ministry Coucil members. I would totally recommend it!!!!!

I found this easy to listen to but not of much help to any pathway to purpose for me. It was interesting and did get some ideas from listening to it.

This book is excellent for doing exactly what the title predicts. It has certainly been a pathway to God's purpose for my life. I am slowly discovering the passions that God has placed in my heart and connecting them with, what else but, His purpose for my life.

This book is one of the most significant books I've read in awhile in regard to helping me honestly evaluated God's place in my life and my own motivations for serving Him and relating to others. This book makes me feel like I want to sit with the author and discuss at length the concepts she brings forth in her book. Ms Brazelton must be an awesome mentor.

This book has the possibility to change your life in a very dramatic and positive manner. It is simple, concise and to the point. The author is well qualified and speaks to your very soul if you allow her. It may be a good idea to make an investment in this book.

Very useful as a Therapist and written in terms anyone can relate to.

I finally decided to buy this book after receiving many copied pages from my therapist. The small chapters are light reads and they have helped me in more ways than I can count.

A wonderful little book.

Author's language is so clear and understandable. She makes things so simple.
She takes the most important questions and gives the answers without making complicated.
I got a lot more help from this book than I got from my therapist I have seen for 1,5 years.
This book has changed my life.
Although I red it twice already I still read it.
Everyone can learn something from this book.

It's a great, wise, simple, highly readable book.

Still, I cannot give it 5 stars because I found it at times a little simplistic -- probably a function of the book's restricitve format that keeps each chapter very short, and therefore generic and thus a little shallow. It's good reading for people who don't have time for big volumes and intellectually challenging explantions -- but at a price.

Things in life are often more ccomplicated than this book suggests. However, the priamry principle that it promotes (the crucial and necessary need for Self-Esteem that's not based on external factors) is very true. Kudos to the author for making it so clear. Any effort aiming to expose and undo the harm of most people's upbringing -- which overemphasizes high achievement and competitivenss while neglecting spiritual development -- is a valuable contribution to our culture.

I appreciated the author's effort to avoid references to God (she allows atheistic readers to replace the concept of God with the notion of Goodness) -- but then, alas, she forgot that rule in the last chapter. That last chapter was also rather disappointing in content, the weakest of all -- just a pep talk with no concrete advice.

Throughtout the book, the author ascribes the often harmful "Model of Doing" to the Western culture, and the more benficial "Model of Being" to the East -- but that is a simplification too. Anyone familiar with high-driving, competitive, and sometimes cruel Asian societies knows that the East is in the grips of the "Model of Doing" just as we are in the West. (One can also think of some western saints, like St.Francis, who were very much into a "Model of Being".)

Also, I am concerend that the author's often repeated advice to "take care of yourself first" will be interpreted by many people as a permission to be selfish and self-centerted. She certainly understands the difference (and attempts to explain it at one point) -- but in her apparent effort not to undermine any reader's Self-Esteem, she stops short of telling her readers that having no compassion for others, and never giving of yourself is not a way to live. She just says "accept yourslef as you are". Then why change for the better?

This book will be of only marginal value to people who are well read in psychology, but it will be very useful and eye-opening to an average person trying to come to terms with the pain of living. It's like Psychology 101 -- a basic course for everyone, but it doesn't have enough depth to satisfy those who need to probe for deeper reasons and solutions. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it as a first step towards mastering "the art of living".

This book is actually two different topics and authors. It is primarily a reissue in English and edited to make more readable some letters from Brother Lawrence, a monk from the 17th century world known for practicing holding God in his every thought every minute of the day. In itself this is a great asset and has helped me already begin to see the value in keeping God in mind every moment of every day.

To help this process the book leads with letters written by Frank Laubach in 1970 on how practicing His presence can be a reality. It discusses Frank's own experience in keeping God in mind every moment of the day, as well as some practical pitfalls and practices which can help us through the process.

This book has changed my life and remains on the shelf within easy reach for reference and re-reading.

A wonderful book for silent meditation.
I prefer this book over The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence.

Having been a long time Brother Lawrence fan I was leery of adding Frank Laubach's journal entires to this ancient classic. I was wrong. Laubach is a modern master who takes Brother Lawrence's simple way and brings it into the 20th century. After reading this short missive my friend and I have agreed together to practice the presence of Christ in everything that we might try this simple and beautiful way ourselves. Read this short guide and commit yourself to walking in the light. It's worth it.

Excellent book for those who believe we exist for the glory and honor of God. It will help you get to the point where your agenda no longer controls your life. It will be his agenda that controls. Two classics in one book.

I've read this book twice already and each time I read it, feels like the first time. This book is really intense. It made me realize how far off the mark I was with keeping God in my thoughts more often than I do. It's a life long practice, but once you read this book you'll never forget it and will keep coming bak to it at least once a year. It's also an excellent book to recommend to others who feel it's impossible to maintain God's presence all the time. The first time I read this book I became so much more aware of how little I think about God through the day and have been working on this practice ever since. I can honestly say I'm making progress. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a closer relationship with God.

This book by David K. Wolpert is a must read for anyone contemplating
Scoliosis surgery. It has all the Medical Jargon explained in clear terms easily understood by an average person. It is informative and facinating from page 1 to the end. I am scheduled for surgery and could not put it down. It covers all the things you couldn't think of to ask the surgeon. I can't wait for my husband to read it so that we can discuss it. I think this book would benefit anyone with scoliosis even if they are not thinking of immediate surgery. It would help them to realize there are options should their scoliosis progress. Chapter three completely covers alternatives to surgery. I highly recommend this book.

This book covers something of almost everything I would want to know. I bought one for a friend, and have thought about buying a couple more for her mother and other friends, to help them understand what she and her daughter will be going through.

The book fits a specific need - how is someone supposed to get their mind around all of what scoliosis surgery will entail - what to ask, what to do in advance, what to expect. I can't imagine anything more terrifying than handing your daughter over to a back surgeon. This book gives you a place to start - comprehensive but so easy to read, and straight to the point.

This is the perfect book for anyone considering scoliosis surgery or who has a loved one who is considering the surgery. It discusses all the little details from the technical terms of scoliosis to what sort of things you need to prepare to make your recovery easier. It's written from a patient's point of view which is just what most people need.

I had 2 scoliosis surgeries 2 years ago, and this book did a great job preparing me for the surgeries. I highly recommend it!

What a blessing! I read this book over and over and over--so many times, prior to my surgery--and also referred to it afterward! I even took it with me to the hospital. It contains a wealth of information for scoliosis patients and their loved ones. I felt calm and at peace (relatively!) heading in to my surgery "adventure," both due to my faith and because I felt so well informed. I also felt prepared for my recovery time at home, thanks to his appendix: Getting Your House and Life in Order.

During the time I've been a member of the NSF Forum, this has been the most talked about and referred to book on scoliosis in the posts, being recommended wholeheartedly by many of us "post-ops" as a "must have" to those looking for information. Many have commented on how they could just not put their book down when it first arrived. While not a riveting best-seller for the general public, it does indeed make a fascinating "read" to those of us with the desire to know more. MANY THANKS to David for sharing his personal story, for doing extensive research, and for taking the time to pen this invaluable source of information on scoliosis surgery!

Jennifer hits the Real Estate nail right on the head with this book. If I ever had thoughts of writing a Real Estate book I don't think I'll be able to now as Jennifer has already put everything I've learned to be true about this business in this book. This should be required reading for every Realtor.

I am a new agent and found this book very helpful. It is an easy read, with very down-to-earth advice about how to start your business.

I read many books written on the topic of how to be successful in real estate. This book was by far the most practical, helpful and fun! The style is engaging and easy to read. Many of the other books had a very negative approach to the business and (in my mind) had a creepy air to them. This book was different. I honestly loved Jennifer's approach to the business of real estate. Her approach is positive, client centered and respectful. She defined how you can be successful in RE and still hold your head up high! If you want to have a successful career that focuses on helping people instead of the negative stereotypes associated with the profession of realtor, this is the book for you. I definitely recommend it.

As a green bean real estate agent who just passed her exams, I was going through an "oh no, what am I doing????" phase when I read this book! (Brian Buffini's websites list of top books to read). WOW. SO GLAD I PICKED IT UP! The gut honest input to multiple situations was so appreciated and actually helped restore my excitement and enthusiasm for this next step in my life. I'm a "take the high-road" girl and reading how you provide ethical-do-the-right-thing-always-extraordinary customer service resonated deeply with me. Thanks for sharing the personal ouches as well as the professional ones. I'll read this book again and again--and can't wait to get started in my new career!

As I read the first couple of chapters, I started to wonder if Jennifer had been somehow monitoring my progress in real estate sales! I got into it for the same reasons she did, made most of the same mistakes, and came up with some of the same solutions. Somehow I muddled through my rookie year and became successful. But if I'd read her book then, I would have made fewer mistakes (and wasted less money on just-sold postcards!). Even experienced (and extroverted) agents can benefit from the creative ideas in Jennifer's book. I am glad I found it now, and I heartily recommend it.

I bought the book because I have to return my library copy and there's so much I want to highlight! I don't know about you, but the real information you need from the doctor to start basal and bolus injections or pumping insulin is minimal or sketchy at best. There are so many factors influencing just where to start and where to go from there that a physician just can't spend that kind of time with you. Maybe it's very inconvenient or impossible to get to an endocrinologist or go to classes. This book will give you the information you need to avoid doing more harm than good! Formulas are there for titrating your bolus/bolus/pump insulin based on weight, based on your personal rate of absorption, what to do when things go wrong, all the what, where, whens and hows you need to know to get your blood sugars under control. There are also plenty of websites mentioned to follow up on any further research. It really is a MUST HAVE book!

Great book for someone beginning insulin injections. Gives all the details that you need to know to control your glucose levels.

I was diagnosed with type one this year and in order to help me, my doctor gave me some of his medical book's to read however, this was quite challenging for me putting all the medical terminology together in order to understand my diabetes. This book takes the medical language and translates it into everyday practical advice. I am on my second reading of this book and every time I read it I learn something new. This is a good book to mark up or highlight because of the information that is present. I would recommend this book for any body with type 1 who wants to improve there control or who have just been diagnosed.

This book is a very practical guide to insulin use that is a must-read for anybody trying to maximize their blood sugar control. We got it from the library first, but then realized we'd be coming back to it repeatedly and needed to have our own copy. Highly recommended!

I ordered this book after reading the good reviews on it and I found it to be an excellent read. My 5 year old daughter is Type 1 diagnosed a year ago. I read as much as I can on diabetes and found this book answered those little nagging questions I have always had. We have a great endo but they can only give you so much information at each appointment. I think alot of learning about handling ones diabetes is trial and error and Gary Scheiner brought that up in the book along with ways to try to figure out what works for you. I highly recommend this book!
