Excellent Critical Analysis of Race & Gender Concepts

You may agree with her -- you may disagree -- but this book of translated essays will surely bend your mind in re-thinking your common sense ideas about the categories of race & gender. Guillaumin is a materialist feminist, which means she is greatly influenced by Marxian philosophies that have developed in France in the last half-century and sensitive to the ideological bases of power with respect to "minorities" and women in society. Her analysis of race led her to extend analytical application of these ideas to gender, making her conclusions regarding gender more "radical" than her statements on race.
Guillaumin's historical exploration of the rise of bourgeoisie as well as her analysis of naturalism as a worldview are important and deserving of reflection. I recommend this challenging (yet approachable) text to anyone interested in applying their critical thinking skills to the continuing issues of race and gender that are so pervasive in our contemporary society.

Having been a FIRM believer in Jeff MacDonald for over 24 years and having done alot of research that included a long meeting with Fred Bost who was a co-writer of Fatal Justice, the book that "proved" Jeff's innocence, I was 99.999 certain of his innocence but was always in search of that .1 percent. Then I found Scales of Justice by Christina Masewicz. PLEASE, all of you who support Jeff READ THIS BOOK!! It is a page turner! Christina presents the facts of her years of research(she even attended the Trial) straight out of the box with absolutely NO slant on guilt or innocence. She just LAYS IT ALL OUT THERE!! In reading this book she gives you proof in the form of her website containing all (And I do mean ALL) of the documents that she makes reference to in this facinating book and encourages you to make up you own mind. After all these years I finally have the 100% proof and I can finally say, without a doubt in my mind that "I am 100% Positive that Jeffrey MacDonald Murdered his family! Thank You Christina!!!

Colette Hyman's analysis of the topic is insightful and engaging. Her book is tremendouly informative and insightful. What makes her book stand out among the greatest books on the Depression era, however, is the skill with which she presents her argument. Her writing ability is unparalled. She could make any topic seem like the most interesting revelation. I read this book in one sitting, and I don't even care for the subject matter. I was just doing research.

The author is fearless in confronting many modern church issues of a controversial nature. Many of the reflective questions at the end of each chapter could well serve as a springboard for discussion. Hopefully clergy might use them in dialog with women as a means to better understanding of the anger and confusion in many catholic women who are struggling with the church's response to the controversial issues. In or out-thay is the question this book might answer!

These cakes are amazing. Stunning. Out-of-this-world gorgeous. The cake represented on this website, believe it or not, is one of the plain Janes of the bunch. This book is not for beginners! But it will be worth working up to being able to create cakes like these. They're not just cakes -- they're ephemeral sculptures. You'll find a cake appropriate for any theme or event. Some of the cakes are quirky and funny; others are elegant.
Some reviewers said that they felt the instructions weren't comprehensive enough. Well, it's just that the step-by-step technique instructions are only given once -- in the first portion of the book, and they are plenty comprehensive. They just aren't reiterated with each cake. You have to read about the techniques first, and then you get the more detailed information for each cake.
I am in awe of Ms. Peters' prowess -- these cakes really are amazing.

I thought that the price meant that I would be getting great information on how to make a 4 tier cake. What I got was a book full of amazing cakes, with little direction. They were very over the top. The price was way too much for this book. I also bought the Wimsical Bakehouse with this one and it was alot less but came with alot more information about how to make these cakes. I gave it two stars for the fact that her cakes are breath taking, but the content was a big let down.

I agree with D. Fletcher. This is a "Coffee Table Book" fun to look at but not a "How To" book. It shows off Peters beautiful talent as a decorator but it is not a learning book per say.

Part One covers the health risks associated with PCOS (diabetes, obesity, heart disease, hypertension, etc.). Causes, risk factors, and warnings signs are discussed. Part Two covers the protection plan: diet and lifestyle changes that can help reduce and control symptoms and future health risks. Part Three covers motivation, medications and alternative therapies, and continuing research. Part Four offers PCOS-friendly recipes. There is also a glossary, extensive lists for resources and further reading, and a good index.
I have just finished reading a copy of this book from the library but I plan to buy it because it will be a very useful resource to have around. I have not yet discussed the protection plan with my doctor, but it does seem quite sound. Some of the advice (eat fewer processed foods, drink more water, etc.) is information that I already knew and have been trying to put into practice. But there is a lot of information that I didn't know (especially regarding how the body processes food and the benefits and dangers of many different nutrients and substances) and the plans for implementing changes and staying motivated are very inspiring to me.
I was diagnosed two years ago, when I was having fertility problems. But I am not overweight and not insulin resistant. Nevertheless, having a plan to follow is very comforting to me in reducing my health risks in the future and doing what I can to minimize my symptoms.
