A Pilgrimage through Photographs.
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2002-02-27
It is a magnificent work of photojournalism that takes one through the various places and events in the life of Jesus by way of pictures and text. Starting from the annunciation of the angel to Mary at Nazareth till the ascension of Jesus on the Mount of Olives, the most important places of interest for a pilgrim are well portrayed through seventy full color photographs and the significance of the places today and at the time of Jesus explained by way of the accompanying text. It is designed to be a good pilgrimage without the scrimmage of the actual travel. There are various sites in Holy Land worthy of the attention of a tourist, but this book chooses to focus simply on the places of interest from the point of view of Jesus life and ministry. ...

The author Jacques Potin is a French monk and journalist who has led many groups of pilgrims through the Holy Land and has brought forth a guide for the same purpose. The original French text is translated by Colette Joly Dees who has done a very good job of rendering the English text in the everyday language of the North American people. Whoever has been on a pilgrimage of the Holy Land or wishes to do so, following the footsteps of the Lord, would treasure this lovely book.

L'imagerie de la Bible - superbe!

C'est super ! This book is a great introduction to the stories of the bible, both Old and New Testaments, for children ages 3-10. As the title indicates, pages are mostly filled with pictures with a little description of the biblical story that corresponds to the pictures. People of all ages and races are portrayed in the stories. The book is non-denominational, and is not 'preachy' or threatening. A lovely introduction to the greatest story of all time for the kids ! Merci !

About La Chatte
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-08-18
In the genre of novel, La Chatte, written by Colette, explores the intimate feelings of the different characters shown in the story.

What is amazing in this kind of text is how the misterious sight of the silent animal judges in an implacable way the "mise en escene" of each one of the characters. As La Chatte belonged to the male character who was just married with an insecure woman who had to live with both man and feline lady, she started to loose control in her own new home. The second idea travelling all through the story is how the young lady always thought that La chatte appears in her new life as a spy or as a presence of her mother in law. This kind of life resulted so hard for a young woman who had always thought about marriage as a new way of life, full of kindness, love and warm.

Is a very nice text about human condition, about fear and insecureness in a media class society. The trimph of the mistery and one more motif to love or hate cats as the history of man had always teached us.

My favorite of Collette's Works

It takes awhile to get used to Collette's unique style, but once I was used to it I grew to enjoy it. La Vagabonde is a fascinating look into the Dance Hall world, but more importantly, a wonderful study of a woman of contradictory desires. I feel it beautifully captures a woman's struggle for a sense of self and of the often conflicting desire to love and loose oneself in love. It also deals with aging and disillusionment. This novel seems in a large part autobiographical of Collette's own life. Her writing is sensual and intelligent, and very French.

Look and Find--Winnie the Pooh

I got several of the Look and Find books for my son when he was small. One month ago our home was flooded and we lost a lot of my son's books. I asked him to make a list of the books he wanted me to try to find, the Look and Find books were at the top of the list. And Winnie the Pooh was at the top of that list. There is so much happening on the pages that they make great adult and child together time books. And at 12 they are still chalenging enough to make them fun for him.

Very inspiring

The PCOS Protection Plan is geared towards women who have already been diagnosed with the syndrome and are looking for information about diet and lifestyle changes that can help them manage their symptoms and reduce their risk of future serious health problems. Very little background information about PCOS is provided.

Part One covers the health risks associated with PCOS (diabetes, obesity, heart disease, hypertension, etc.). Causes, risk factors, and warnings signs are discussed. Part Two covers the protection plan: diet and lifestyle changes that can help reduce and control symptoms and future health risks. Part Three covers motivation, medications and alternative therapies, and continuing research. Part Four offers PCOS-friendly recipes. There is also a glossary, extensive lists for resources and further reading, and a good index.

I have just finished reading a copy of this book from the library but I plan to buy it because it will be a very useful resource to have around. I have not yet discussed the protection plan with my doctor, but it does seem quite sound. Some of the advice (eat fewer processed foods, drink more water, etc.) is information that I already knew and have been trying to put into practice. But there is a lot of information that I didn't know (especially regarding how the body processes food and the benefits and dangers of many different nutrients and substances) and the plans for implementing changes and staying motivated are very inspiring to me.

I was diagnosed two years ago, when I was having fertility problems. But I am not overweight and not insulin resistant. Nevertheless, having a plan to follow is very comforting to me in reducing my health risks in the future and doing what I can to minimize my symptoms.

Excellent Critical Analysis of Race & Gender Concepts
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2001-06-29
You may agree with her -- you may disagree -- but this book of translated essays will surely bend your mind in re-thinking your common sense ideas about the categories of race & gender. Guillaumin is a materialist feminist, which means she is greatly influenced by Marxian philosophies that have developed in France in the last half-century and sensitive to the ideological bases of power with respect to "minorities" and women in society. Her analysis of race led her to extend analytical application of these ideas to gender, making her conclusions regarding gender more "radical" than her statements on race.

Guillaumin's historical exploration of the rise of bourgeoisie as well as her analysis of naturalism as a worldview are important and deserving of reflection. I recommend this challenging (yet approachable) text to anyone interested in applying their critical thinking skills to the continuing issues of race and gender that are so pervasive in our contemporary society.

A MUST READ For all Dr.Jeff MacDonald Supporters!!!!

Review Date: 2008-03-22
Having been a FIRM believer in Jeff MacDonald for over 24 years and having done alot of research that included a long meeting with Fred Bost who was a co-writer of Fatal Justice, the book that "proved" Jeff's innocence, I was 99.999 certain of his innocence but was always in search of that .1 percent. Then I found Scales of Justice by Christina Masewicz. PLEASE, all of you who support Jeff READ THIS BOOK!! It is a page turner! Christina presents the facts of her years of research(she even attended the Trial) straight out of the box with absolutely NO slant on guilt or innocence. She just LAYS IT ALL OUT THERE!! In reading this book she gives you proof in the form of her website containing all (And I do mean ALL) of the documents that she makes reference to in this facinating book and encourages you to make up you own mind. After all these years I finally have the 100% proof and I can finally say, without a doubt in my mind that "I am 100% Positive that Jeffrey MacDonald Murdered his family! Thank You Christina!!!
