This book was well ahead of its time. A careful reading of recent Coleridge scholarship reveals that Taylor's work identified and illuminated those ideas of STC that would be most discussed at the end of the century.

Ageless visions in prose and circumstances in timeless words

Coleridge was on the romantic side of poetry, however, when reading Kubla Khan, and Rime of the Ancient Mariner, you can't help but think there was some what of an explorer, an adventuristic style in his words that, save opium, had no way to bud a grow with all around hearts-a-bursting. I liken Pablo Neruda to Coleridge, their visions, love, and spirit's ferosity seem to have been forged from the same mettle. Grecian Urn, Nightingale and others should all be required reading for the young. I guarantee there would be a lot more wonder, and a little more love in this world.

With these superb readings of classic Romantic narrative poems, you can forget about CGI special effects, thundering soundtracks, exorbitant budgets & empty hype -- all that's needed for an unforgettable experience is the transporting magic of the Word, the Voice, and the Imagination. From the lush "Eve of St. Agnes," replete with sensuous imagery & intense emotion, to the chilling & relentless lovers' tragedy of "The Haystack in the Floods," to the spiritual voyage of "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," and more, here are poems that will take you into another, richer world, read with both precision & passion. Most highly recommended!

Richey and Robinson have compiled an excellent edition of Wordsworth and Coleridge's seminal Romantic text. In addition to the complete poems from the first edition of Lyrical Ballads published, they also provide intriguing commentary and copious contextual material that really gives you an excellent idea of just how influential this book was when it was first published. Highly recommended for any serious reader of Romantic poetry.

S.T. Coleridge is an interesting poetic figure. An opium addict who imaged an imaginary country called 'Xanadu', based on an Asian legend about one of the descendants of Genghis Khan, Coleridge's visions are very scattered and lacking in unity. His poems, while some soar to great heights, are often confusing or pedestrian, and in this regard he is a lesser poet than Blake or Milton.
Despite this and his constant dabblings in various religions and his unsystematic attempts to grasp a deep unity in the universe and in all knowledge in the realm of the spirit, along with some beautiful poems like the Ancient Mariner and some good essays and prose works (such as the Biographia) make Coleridge an essential part of any canon of English literature. He is a genius, even if not an outstanding one, and worth reading at least once.
The Oxford Collections are generally of very high standard and worth purchasing for every canonical author.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tape. Beautiful poetry read by beautiful voices. It's wonderful for playing in the car on long journeys, it could even be the perfect antidote to road rage. Very relaxing.

This is an excellent selection of the poetry, criticism, letters, political writing , theological - philosophical writing, table- talk of Coleridge. It has the great poems Kubla Khan, Dejection: an Ode, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It has the whole of the 'Biographia Literaria 'It contains an outstanding introduction by I.A. Richards.
In one volume it gives the reader to know the heart of the work of one of the English language's greatest literary figures.

Several actors read of many of S. T. Coleridge's best-known poems. A narrator summarizes Coleridge's life and introduces his poems in chronological order. The two cassette tapes include all the major poems (a few of the longer ones such as Christabel as excerpts), plus several minor poems that illuminate significant events in his life. The only downside is this -- although the HighBridge Company produced an outstanding package that introduces Coleridge's life and poetry, they unfortunately neglected to include liner notes. For instance, one has no way of finding out the names of the narrator and the actors reading the poems. The readers are very good. After listening to these outstanding readings, I gained a new appreciation of Coleridge's poetry. Highly recommended.

Eilenberg's book opens the complex and fascinating topic of intellectual property, in addition to providing brilliant readings of the major poems of these two seminal Romantic poets.
