I gave this Comic to my little 10 year old brother since he spends most his time playing video games, and i try to get him to read, but this is the first book where he actually enjoyed reading and he is asking me to get volume 2, I am very impressed of his improvement. I look forward to reading this myself, since i have already read and watched the original Ramayana, I expect it to be as deep and penetrating as the Original Ramayana

As the title of this review suggests, this is a very vivid comic book, both in plot and illustrations. This is the most beautiful comic book I've seen so far. The illustrations are very intricate, just like Hindu art. I also like the storyline, which is a combination of Hindu myth and the Matrix. The only problem is that I'm anxious for volume two to come out.

Deepak Chopra & Shekhar Kapur's Ramayan 3392 AD Volume 1: The Mahavinaash Age (Ramayan 3392 A.D.) I didn't realize that Volume 1 also included the first book and the rest of the issues released. I ended up buying them separately as well. But the story and the graphics were amazing. Being a sci-fi/fantasy buff, the mythology being discovered is great. I grew up hearing Ramayan from my grandfather when I was little, so to see a twist to the story is pretty cool.

Excellent & Inspiring Stories

This is an excellent book replete with spiritually uplifting stories. Dr. Chopra is one of the leading experts on Eastern-Western medical treatments and is a gifted philosopher and writer as well.

With regard to the references to autism in this book, Portia Iversen's son Dov, the boy featured in "Strange Son" and Tito Mukhopadhyay are included in this book. Dov was the young man who was actively listening although he was nonverbal during his early years and Tito Mukhopadhyay was the gifted poet/author who has severe autism.

I want to add that the claim made in this book that people with autism "go inside of themselves" and "don't respond to the outside world" simply isn't true. Dov himself said he was listening at all times and Tito Mukhopadhyay was acutely aware of his environment.

Autism is a sensori-neurobiological condition that affects sensory processing and communication. For individuals with severe autism as these two young men have, communication is severely impacted. People with autism are generally acutely aware of their environments; however, the sensory processing issues can create false impressions. For people on the autism spectrum (and it IS a continuum), sensory input can be confusing and hard to separate into discrete units. When a person is on overload, it is not uncommon for them to appear non/unresponsive. That is when the person is "coming even," trying to tone out the overload and the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Communication is an inherent part of all individuals; it is listening to people on the spectrum that hopefully will create a more tolerant world and put false claims about autism permanently to rest.

This is an amazing book, to be read by people of all age groups.
There are a very few books which give a spiritual insight in such simple terms.
This is definetely one among the best of such books. It is as interesting as
a good fiction, with a very simple and effective message in each chapter.
The author makes each of the message reach straight into the heart of the
reader by the style he has used for writing.

First let me say that I have this audio book on cassette, CD and also a hardback book. I am that impressed with it. What this CD is all about:
1) It is like Dr. Chopra is standing next to you and comforting you.
2) He speaks of ways that the body within will heal you and how to concetrate on healing and then the healing will come to you (or you will begin to feel better).
3) Dr. Chopra speaks so soothingly that I really enjoy this.
4) This is a SUPERB CD to listen to when you are ill or stressed out. I personally listen to it when I have a bad cold, flu, or a headache, etc.
I started with the cassette version of this in 2003. So impressed with the cassette version, that I ordered this in the CD version. (Prefer the CD's to cassettes). In my opinion, ALL of Deepak Chopra's CD's are wonderful. I own over 12 of the CD's and all of the cassettes that Dr. Chopra has ever written. Since 1995, I have listened to Dr. Chopra's audio books and have read 6 of his books as well. All of them I still own and refer to.

The cassette and book of Journey Into Healing is highly serene, comforting, peaceful, and abundantly filled with beneficial wisdom. I have listened to this tape several times and I highly recommend it. I, along with many people I know read and enjoy many of Dr. Chopra's books and tapes. Journey Into Healing is highly enjoyable and a rewarding learning experience. Journey Into Healing is among my favorite cassette tapes and Dr. Chopra is among my favorite author's. He is an incredible being that shares enormous knowledge. I am an author myself on Amazon.com and Journey Into Healing is one of many cassettes and books that have contributed to my personal development and inspiration. Highly recommended.

A thought provoking experience.

After listening to this book, I found myself rewinding it to listen again. Dr. Chopra's principles are simple to understand, and do not conflict with most religious convictions. For me, this book has enhanced my understanding of what role I play in my own healing or dis-ease in life. In taking the time to perform the meditation of which Dr. Chopra speaks, has helped this me to slow down, listen to what my body says, and act accordingly. I am sharing my good fortune with others.

I've had this program on Audio Tape for many years and always thought it was wonderful. It is filled with wonderful music, thoughtful, sincere narration by Deepak and is filled with many insights that can help one remember truths about ourselves.

While I will be the first to admit that I don't take everything Deepak Chopra says at face value. Often I feel he is an excellent "compiler" of ideas but not necessarily very spiritually evolved himself (which he has implied himself on programs I have). He is not only excellent at compiling but he is very adept at bridging the ancient with the modern, the sages with the Quantum physicists in a way that anyone can understand. For this alone I think he deserves deep praise.

I've used this program to help me reconnect with my true self and go within, to remind myself of deeper aspects of myself and those around me.

It's a nice transition to use for meditation as well, especially if you're stressed and need to be eased in gently. Of course I'd recommend doing Yoga for that purpose as well or even playing this tape while doing gentle poses to help create an atmosphere of centeredness while reminding one of these truths.

Highly recommended!

Depak Chopra is a wonderful, thoughtful, funny speaker. This "Audiobook", however, is not a reading from a book, as the cover suggests. It is his live seminar, which I did not expect. Nowhere in the description does it say this. Being familiar with the seminar, from a set of discs (I believe 10 or 12 discs) a friend had lent me a while ago, I was pleased that it actually was this. However, the editing is not as good. Two of the meditation exercises are split between discs. It's very disconcerting to have to change discs in the middle of these exercises. You lose the feeling and continuity of it. It makes me think that in transposing the seminar onto 6 discs, no one was listening.I am however, pleased with the sound quality and am always delighted to listen to Dr. Chopra. And, since this audio book version is cheaper than the seminar with the booklets and wookbooks, I'm doubly pleased. This seminar is life altering. Thank you Dr. Chopra.

The morning commute's blahs are a thing of the past when the driver plugs in a tape or cd and visits with the likes of Jack Canfield, Marianne Williams and the others. Each offers a conversational monologue which address basic human perceptions and attitudes. Whether at home or on the road, each tape is a treasure of information which offers the listener tools to reshape basic views of life. These tapes are well worth the value. They are like good traveling companions. You welcome their presence, and delight in their gifts. I strongly recommend it to anyone.

Several books in one

Review Date: 2004-01-01
Perhaps first and foremost, this is a collection of interviews about Jesus with a variety of famous people--writers, preachers, scholars. Interviewees include Christians from the liberal (eg. John Shelby Spong, Marcus Borg) to the conservative (eg. Jerry Falwell, J. I. Packer), as well as those outside the Christian tradition (eg. Rabbi Harold Kushner, Deepak Chopra). Almost every interview is worth reading and has interesting, insightful things to say. No matter what your own views on Jesus are, you'll find things you agree with and things you don't, and probably some food for thought.

All the interviewees are answering the same questions, which gets a bit monotonous after a while, but fortunately, we get more than the interviews themselves. We get to know something of the interviewer, of the interviewees, and of the process of tracking them down. The book is part spiritual autobiography, part travel memoir, and partly the story of the author's attempts, successful and unsuccessful, to get his interviews and write his book. It's a bit of a jumble, but it works, and turns out to be quite readable. Elliott is an appealing guy, sincere, open-minded yet opinionated, unpretentious; and it's a pleasure to spend time in his company as he tries to learn more about Jesus and about how different people view Jesus.

Mostly successful examination...

William Elliott's "A Place at the Table" is a mostly successful attempt to present the many faces of Christian spirituality in America today. To do this, the author set out on a cross country journey to interview many religious and spiritual leaders on their beliefs about Jesus and the Bible, everyone from Marianne Williamson to Jerry Falwell. The author's approach is inquisative without being didactic, and his more open minded approach makes this a vastly better book than Lee Strobel's similar "A Case for Faith". His struggle to get the project financed is inspiring, and his folksy musings on the road are a breath of fresh air amongst the more serious theological interviews.

The book is not without its problems, though. For one, the interviews have a ring of similarity to them, since all the interviewees are answering from a boilerplate. For another, the folksy musings between the interviews create a tone that at times is hard to pin down. I suspect the author is sincere, but some of these scenes -- like the one where images on a Last Supper painting are speaking to him -- seem unintentionally comic. It's as if he has temporarily detoured into Hunter S. Thompson's Las Vegas.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it for spiritual seekers. It has some insights, and an ultimately peaceful message, that will inspire and stimulate.

Even if you don't agree with everything that is written in this book you can appreciate the quest of the author who is trying to answer his questions about religion and Jesus. There are so many different points of view expressed - it creates an unobtrusive and honest reflection about Christianity. Bill's personal commentary is also amusing and is a great enhancement to this wonderful book.

"There is a rare experience that can bring more delight than falling in love - falling in love with God. Both are mysteries of the soul." ~Deepak Chopra

Deepak Chopra presents classic poems from Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir, Mirabai and Rabindranath Tagore to explore immortal love in devotional poetry. These poems are filled with love and longing for the divine. I was especially happy to find poems by the Indian princess Mirabai and always love reading Rumi's thoughts.

"Sunlight spreads over a face in the shadows
Like the flower of truth beginning to unfold." ~Rumi

This book is born of Deepak Chopra's own love for God and his translations embody the joy and lyrical heart of each original poem. His understanding of deep spiritual mysteries in no doubt encourages a deeper understanding and that translates into a much more beautiful reading experience.

He captures the depths of Mirabai's longings in "Where Love Is First," where she almost seems to long for the next life with such intensity, we feel as if her soul will fly from her body to be with God.

"Take me to that place where no one can go
Where death is afraid
And swans alight to play
On the overflowing lake of love."

A brief introduction to each poet is included to give an added historical perspective. What is especially beautiful is that I can hear Deepak Chopra's voice reading me the poems as I sink into contemplation. Through reading this book of poems you can discover why a love for God is a much more lasting ecstasy.

I especially love his translation of "Distant Words" by Rabindranath Tagore where the moon sends us the love letters of God. It feels as close to the original translation as I can personally remember. Thoughts from poets of the past mingle with the love in Deepak's own soul and this creates a memorable collection of spiritual beauty.

"The Soul in Love" would make a perfect gift for someone you love who has an interest in spirituality and a desire to know how poets of the past have explored the light radiating from their hearts. This is truly a spiritual treasure!

The Soul in Love is a lovely journey... passionate in its offerings of how our souls are stirred by the words of Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir, Mirabai and Tagore. I was especially touched by the words of Tagore. In Distant Words Tagore inspires us with the morning dew expressed in these few words-

"You send me love letters in the moon," The night said to the sun. "And I leave you my answer As tears upon the grass."

All lovely and thought provoking!
