This is one of my favorite dictionaries of foreign phrases: I flip through it often.
There are five languages covered: French, Spanish, Italian, Latin, and German. The phrases come from literature, mythology, history, and politics, but not popular culture.
In terms of diacritical marks, the dictionary is well done, with all the accents in French, Spanish, German, and Italian having been meticulously seen to. Pronunciation might be a problem for you, though, since there is no guide to pronunciation, and nothing else to help you (e.g., the Latin lacks macrons, and the Italian section contains no assistance for irregularly stressed words) on any section.
Author and source of each quote are also given, where known.
Each page has two columns: the left is the foreign language, and the right is the English translation. Each section also contains an index of key words. Then there is an English index at the end.

This is by and large a very enjoyable work with thousands of interesting quotations. It is a wonderful book for those small minutes in- between when one cannot read anything extensive but nonetheless wishes to keep one's mind focused and learning. One problem with the book is that often the quotations are chopped off parts of quotations well- known in a more extensive form. My other problem is that I do not particularly want to read in a work I am enjoy quotations from certain abominable monsters such as Nazi leaders whose memories should be dust. This of course is not the fault of the editors and the monsters of history often are remembered and quoted when their victims remain silent. I wonder if a book of quotations from the ' virtuous of mankind' is a feasible and interesting project. In any case this work is by and large interesting and entertaining.

This title is a beautifully written and illustrated inspirational book. Althought I have initially purchased Connections for myself, I have also recommended this book to many others. It is a beautiful gift book for anyone needing just a little pick up. It is a book where you can read a page and get an important message and later come back for more. It contains what I refer to as snipets of inspiration. Connections, our body, mind and spirit and how we relate to the world we live in. Buy it for inspiration and share this book for making connections of your own. A thoughtful read and a beautiful gift book.

After years of fighting the consulting battle alone, this book came along and I realized that all of my experiences were held in common by that group known as "Consultants." I realized that even my "failures" were tremendous learning experiences that made me a better consultant. What a relief to know I'm not alone and part of a grand tradition.
What I learned: Always, always look for the customers pain. Sell to that and you create real value, satisfaction and repeat business.

Coming of Age: a Treasury of Poems, Quotation and Readings on Growing Up, edited by Edward Searl and published by Skinner House Books (an imprint of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations), has to be one of my favorite anthologies in which my work has been done the honor of being included.
A tidy size for toting along anywhere, don't let the petite dimentions of this important volume mislead you. It is chock full of meaningful tidbits by marvelous writers beside whose valuable contributions to the annals of literary history my own paultry work must surely pale by comparisson.
Nevertheless, Mr. Searl has done me an unspeakable honor for which I will always be grateful: to have included my thoughts alongside those of such notables as Kahlil Gibran, Anais Nin, Virginia Woolf, Robert Fulghum, J.D. Salinger, D.H. Lawrence, George Eliot, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thomas Wolfe, Walt Whitman, James Michener, Joseph Campbell, E.B. White, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Frost, Edgar Allen Poe, Henry David Thoreau, Vachel Lindsay, Albert Schweitzer and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Pretty impressive company in which to find one's self, eh? Even Aristotle, Shakespeare and Proverbs are quoted within these richly packed pages.
I feel confident anyone picking up a copy of this small volume of great breadth will find something of value within. It's the type of book in which readers might want to underline striking passages, then refer to them again and again amid moments of impact throughout their lives.
Ideal for both thinking adolescents and young adults, as well as for the loved ones trying to guide them into adluthood without losing their own hard-won perspective, Coming of Age is (rather understandably) a garrie keyman recommended reader.
