The Phantom Stallion Book Series (24) by T. Farley is a great set of books for any child who loves horses. My granddaughter now has the entire set, and she would read a book a day. She loves them.

This book was amazing! Terri Farley is such a talented author! I love the part when she is with the Phantom. It is so magical that I feel as though I were there. It's great the way Samantha is kept so realistic and even has weaknesses like all of us. I can understand how Samantha yearns for something she can't have but that makes her bond with the phantom that much stronger. I am sad to know that there is only one more book in this series. I can't wait to see what Terri has for us next!

What a wonderful book! Captivating, exciting and all in all just a great story. A story of friendship, trust, and dealing with stereotypes. This entire series is a great read for any age, but this book has some special value in helping preteen and teenagers with stereotypes. Thank you Teri! I can't wait for Run Away Home in November!

This book explains how waves are formed, provides information on forecasting surf conditions, and provides insider information into surf culture. It will help beginners get a clue on how things work in the water and provide those of us with experience the ability to travel outside of familiar territory to explore new spots. Ideal conditions are listed for every break in North America: ideal swell direction, wind direction, swell size, type of break (beach, reef, river mouth, point break, etc), and more.

A must have for surfers.

This is a must have book for beginning and experienced surfers alike. Basically everyone wants to know where and when to surf, and this book basically tells you exactly that and then some. I keep a copy in my car about a foot from my left arm at all times. It starts off by dedicating three pages to the formation of swell, storms, tides, and waves. Each chapter(Southern California has a detailed summary of surf culture, the seasons and hazards) which is fascinating. Each spot is identified with best tide, best wind, type of bottom, type of surfspot with a paragraph or so about what to expect. (Dangerous locals-Beware, Shark attack spot). This book could possibly save your life is you use it wisely. While this book doesn't cover in detail every spot in California, you will have to get a guide to California surf spots, it does an excellent job of covering the entire North American continent from Washington state, to Texas, Nova Scotia to Florida. Most well known spots are in this book, secret spots no. Hundreds of great full color photos of some epic waves. Buy this book and then start driving. Or better yet, just memorize the whole thing.

Just like it says this book is the players guide to W:tF. It has loads of info on the tribes of the moon and several new gift lists and rites. One section I found interesting talks about alliances between packs and goes into detail about how wan why they are made. Over all it gave me a bunch of ideas for my chronical. I recomend this to anyone playing Werewolf.

Essential Player's Guide for Werewolf

Review Date: 2007-06-26
One thing that amazes me is the quality of supplements for Werewolf: the Forsaken. Pretty much everything released thus far has added depth and value to my games, and this one is no exception. Billed as the 'player's guide' for Werewolf, this book delivers exactly what it promises. The first part of the book goes into detail about each of the five Tribes of the Moon, exploring their individual culture, history, Auspice roles, and views on Renown, Harmony and Primal-Urge, as well as giving some sample story hooks. It has everything from mention of Blood Talon warriors who rode with the Mongols, to the roles assigned to Bone Shadow Irraka, to the Iron Master tradition of wearing decorations in their fur. And so much more. This is all stuff that expands upon and compliments what was written in the core book. Theres also a section on Ghost Wolves, explaining how and why Uratha choose the path, what their lives are like, and most intriguingly, options for STs to create a new 'sixth Tribe', with a few sample 'Tribes' included for good measure. Of course, as with everything else in the nWoD, this is all purely optional and STs can feel free to use or discard it as they see fit.

The next chapter is named Meat, appropriately enough, and contains just that. It's full of optional new Merits, Flaws, Gifts, Rites, Fetishes and Talens. Tooth and Claw, a new Fighting Style Merit, is introduced, and each Tribe gets a new Gift list, as well as suggestions for further Gifts (though it's recommended the ST be careful to keep things balanced). I found the Weakness and Information Gifts especially intriguing, but theres almost a dozen to choose from! Theres also examination of Harmony and, most importantly, pack structure, including new rules for using pack tactics! The final chapter, named Bones, goes into more detail on setting. A major portion of it deals with Protectorates, alliances between packs, and large scale interaction between local Uratha. This sort of stuff will doubtless be useful for Forsaken LARPs, but equally interesting was the examination of Uratha culture across the globe. Both the culture and regional problems are shown, along with several very different sample NPCs. How do the Uratha of the Middle East and North Africa view Islam? What strange cults threaten those in the Mediterranean? How much influence comes from the tribal animistic beliefs of Africa? And what are the Pure up to in Asia? All these are answered in this last section.

All in all, this is an excellent book. The sections on Tribe and global culture are excellent for adding some new dimension to characters, while the information on setting is useful for any large scale game. And, needless to say, the new mechanics are invaluable as well. Especially the stuff about packs. And, like I said, pretty much everything published so far has been a great resource. I find much of the information from this book going hand in hand with other resources, like Shadows of the UK and Lodges: the Splintered, adding more regional detail and variation to the setting. Whether you want to run a game in the wastes of the Sahara, or the slums of Rio, or the good old U-S-of-A, you'll find this book incredingly useful. I strongly recommend this as a resource for both players and STs.

I'm very biased because this is my favorite book of all time by one of my favorite autors. The story comes alive, the characters come alive. To me after years of reading and rereading the story, these characters are like people that really lived and I feel like I know them better then alot of real people. Wonderful book, if you've never read Jane Austen, start here and enjoy!

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is an account of society in the early nineteenth century. Austen primarily focuses on the ridiculous pressure to marry. She does an exquisite job satirizing or "poking fun" at the extreme views of those who lived during that time. She gives the reader a good look at how truly important first impressions are and how love can conquer all. Austen develops her main characters Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, with very conflicting character traits. These conflicting traits allow the build up of tension between these two characters. This gives the novel a pleasant amount of intensity that leads to an ousting ending. Austen sucks you into a thoroughly enchanting world, making the novel impossible to put down. I recommend this novel to those who enjoy intellectual wit and have a soft heart for romance. Pride and Prejudice is a wonderfully endearing novel that is bound to touch women of every age.

Busting Old Paradigms - Creating New Ones

Review Date: 2004-01-04
It would be inappropriate for me as a co-editor and co-author of this book to provide a review, given my obvious favorable "bias" toward the book's content, but perhaps some background as to whey the book was created will be helpful for those who are considering its purchase.

As an evangelical working in the area of alternative spirituality, new religious movements, or "cults" as they are popularly called in evangelicalism, for many years I used an apologetic methodology popularized by the late Walter Martin. This method begins with Protestant biblical orthodoxy and then compares and refutes the beliefs of alternative spiritualities as heresy. Having used this methodology for many years I reflected on it in light of my further research into missions literature, as well as insights provided by sociology and communication theory. The more I looked at the confrontational methodology of "countering the cults" the more it appeared to be better suited to "preaching to the choir" of evangelical churches rather than to evangelism. Curiously, while the religiously plural situation of America would seem to present evangelicals with unique opportunities for evangelism, the prevalent use of confrontational apologetic methodologies has in fact stifled effective disciple making.

Consider the cultural state of affairs in the U.S. in the early 21st century. Religious pluralism abounds and the post-Christendom culture in which evangelicals find themselves has pushed evangelicalism to the fringes of American culture. In the "between times" of the modernism/postmodernism paradigm shift, dogmatic and confrontational methodologies need to be reconsidered.

For these and other reasons the editors and contributors toward Encountering New Religious Movements have produced an interdisciplinary approach to understanding and responding to new religious movements. This book moves beyond mere denunciation and refutation in an attempt to sympathetically understand these movements; to consider why thousands, perhaps millions of people find them fulfilling; and to consider strategies for effective communication of the way of Christ in culturally appropriate ways to the varying religious cultures of alternative spiritualties. This volume represents a significant step toward creating a new paradigm for evangelicals in the 21st century. Read the book, engage the editors and authors in discussion about the book's contents, and participate in the growing movement creating this paradigm!

A great read for those serious about encountering culture.....

This book is both exhaustive and exhausting to read as a lay person. If you are an ardent fan of more poetic Christian Living writing as offered by many of our current prolific evangelical writers, this book is not for you. If however you are looking for innovative, effective, and even orthodox ways to engage members of these spiritual movements that are moving from the fringe to the mainstream of western culture, then buy this book! This book casts some new light on techniques and approaches to evangelism to new religious movements. The ministry examples are insightful and present fresh ideas on contextualizing the gospel to many of the subcultures that have traditionally been bumbled by the Western Church.

Our efforts must go beyond the handing out of tracts, confrontational discussions of apologetics, and holding demonstrations. Encountering New Religious Movements provides an in-depth history of apologetics and missions to new religious movements as well as chronicling the successes and failures their-in. Though the book is written by several authors, there is a continuous attention brought to solid doctrine and sound missional philosophy in outreach. The authors are each leaders in their respective areas and provide strong biblical foundations and historical data outlining the inception of the movement they represent and the methodology they recommend.

Too many of our seminary graduates are not equipped with the knowledge of how to engage our various subcultures with the Gospel. Many of our seminaries continue to turn out pastors equipped only to perpetuate an ineffective Christendom approach to church and outreach. If our goal is to get out of the church and to impact our culture, then we must have leadership that is prepared. This book should be high on the list of required reading in our seminaries and our various church boards, sessions, and leadership teams.

If you live somewhere that you do not believe these subcultures are present, then either you do not live in the Western World or you are simply mistaken.

Mr. Peters' Dream
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-08-03
Arthur Miller is arguably the greatest American playwright. In his later years, Miller wrote less publicized works that seemed to reflect a sense of lament in old age. This particular play fits that standard.

Mr. Peters is caught in an apparent dream in which he is unsure if he or others are awake. In the dream, he encounters his wife, his daughter, his daughter's boyfriend, as well as his long dead brother and mistress. Adele, a seemingly unimportant background character, represents the darker fringes of the big city the characters inhabit. Mr. Peters is caught between the past and the present in his explorations of his feelings and actions of the past. The story ends on a rather uncomfortble note as the husband of his mistress apparently discovers her infidelity. Which leads Peters to turn to his daughter who is apparently unsure of the father of her baby and console her. This brings to mind the haunting line from page 26, "A man who betrays his wife will betray his country.

The story is strange at times yet is very witty about the evolution of society. There are some great one-liners in this brief tale. Miller fans are certain to enjoy this oddity.

As a high school teacher, the book frees me to instruct while students search for specific exercises. These posters go a step further in reaching a larger number of students as they can be displayed on the board. The detail of muscle group, proper lifting techniques, and how NOT to lift are ideal. A MUST for education of the masses and individual!

At last a book that that not only explains the concept of visual merchandising, but also demonstrates how to implement the various techniques that help promote retail sales.

The book is divided in to easy to read chapters from window displays to in-store layouts and even covers a brief history of window displays. This book is a MUST for retailers, it covers areas of visual merchandising that are often forgotten- ambience, signage, window props, colour and mannequins.

I found the section on store design particularly interesting.

From fashion to home the book has been clearly well researched.

The generous amount of images have been sourced from the worlds influential retailers (Japan, Paris, Hong Kong, USA and UK to name a few) and the illustrations are a useful tool to help explain the principles of visual merchandising.
