The book Avalon High is what I like to refer to as "brain candy." Chocolate for the grey matter.

I like Meg Cabot and still read her. I read her when I was a kid, I read her now. Get over it. I still love her, will always love her.

This Cabot book in particular is based on the legends of Arthur and the belief that Arthur will someday come back and lead the world out of the Dark Ages. Elaine Harrison, named by her professor parents for Elaine who drowned herself in the legends, finds herself in a new city the year her parents take a sabbatical. Things take a decisively Arthurian turn.

Unlike Elaine's namesake she finds herself falling, not for Lance, the jock, but for A. Will Wagner, the one fated to die by his half-brother's hand. The setting, high school, is to die for. (You thought every high school movie imaginable had been made? Think again. This is one waiting to happen.)

Five high school kids, reincarnated from various legendary figures, and knowing nothing about their own power, bump and scrape their way to the fateful end. Elle, Will, Lance, and Jennifer fight against the forces of Dark, and the results, however predictable, left a smile on my face and little butterflies in my stomach. I love Meg Cabot and I love Arthurian legends. Put the two together and you get a happy girl, curled up and reading a small, sweet YA novel.

Literaly her best ever. I absolutly loved Avalon High because it was so suspenseful and not exactly what you expected. I expected a good story but this was amazing. Okay here are the basics.

Ellaine aka, Ellie takes advantage of her dads sabatical, seeing as both her parents are professors who study the mideval times like King Author and Lady Shallott, but anyways Ellie lounges her summer away in her pool on her raft until she starts reliving the story of King Author at her new school. Things and secrets start to come out about murders and others things and on top of that Ellie is in grave danger.

I recommend to everyone looking for a thrill!

I was surprised that I really liked this book. Being familiar with Cabot's Princess Diaries, I thought I would give this bit of fantasy a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the way Cabot weaves Arthurian legend with modern teen angst. While some parts were predictable, other parts were surprisingly fresh and new. I would definitely read more by this author.

I really enjoyed this book. It's about Jenny Greenley who is the anonymous advice columnist (Ask Annie) at her Indiana high school. Since shes so good at keeping secrets she is trusted with keeping Hollywood star Luke Striker's real identity a secret when he comes to her school to research a role. But then Luke's secret gets out and things get crazy and Jenny is caught right in the middle of it.
Here's the reasons I liked this book:
- its funny
- it has a lot of meat to it, its not just the Luke thing there's more to the story so it doesn't get boring
- part of the ending was surprising, the other wasn't but it was still a great ending because of the one surprising part
- there's not alot of books out there that have a storyline like this, its different
- I guess its a romance but also just a going through high school book
- I personally got caught up in all the chaos myself and didn't want to put it down!

So if any of the above appeal to you then you should read this book!!

One of thee faves

For sure, one of the best of Meg Cabot. I fell in love with Luke Striker litteraly. I told all my friends I was in love and there like with who. so I say Luke Striker. I tell them he's a fictional character and they think I'm crazy. Maybe I am but this book is amazing and every girl will fall in love with this story.

I was very pleased with this novel. At first I put it off, thinking that it wasn't something I would really be interested in, but as soon as I started reading it, I was hooked. Jenny Greenley has a high school so typical that I started wondering if she went to school with me. Cabot paints pictures of the newspaper staff, cafeteria divisions, senior pranks, and school dances that seem real. Then, in the midst of it all, she throws a movie star into the mix and gives Jenny the task of babysitting him. And keeping him anonymous. Not something you would see in your everyday high school, but amazingly the movie star helps keep things real. He is able to see things from a perspective that none of these kids have ever had before. On his advice, Jenny goes from being the nice girl that everyone goes to for advice to the nice girl who acts preemptively to solve problems in the school. This change in her makes people wonder, but it also makes them shape up. Almost subtly, Cabot weaves a theme of teen power. Jenny turns her school around just by doing things she's always known to be right, she just didn't think she was the person to do it.
I can't go without mentioning how many times I laughed aloud while reading this. Jenny's experiences in choir with uniforms and dance routines were hilarious and incredibly close to real life. Her apathy towards school fundraisers and dances were familiar, as were the awkward exchanges she has with her crush. Overall, I found this novel to be uplifting, funny, and light. I would definitely recommend it.

Jenny Greenly, her school's anonymous advice columnist's life is complicated, while helping Cara, (an outcast.) Her best friend Trina's boyfriend, and being the anonymous advice columnist it's a lot to handle!

Since Jenny is the anonymous advice columnist she's good at keeping secrets, so when one of Hollywood's biggest teen stars, Luke Striker come to Jenny's school she's in charge of keeping his identity a secret and being his official tour guide.

At first Jenny doesn't think to much about Luke but later they become friends. Suddenly one day at a car wash Luke's identity is reveled because of a famous tattoo he has on his bicep. Girls at school go crazy and pretty much all the teen girls at school are in love with him and want to go to the Spring Fling with him.

Later, Luke takes Jenny to his condo and has a very deep talk with Jenny basically saying, "You're to nice, stop being everyone's best friend, go get some attitude and make a difference." And later asks Jenny to go to the spring fling with him. Jenny takes his advice about getting an attitude and confronts her best friend about mistreating her boyfriend. Her best friend is shocked and angry with Jenny and refuses to talk to her. And that's just the beginning of Jenny's new attitude.

The next day Jenny tells Cara the outcast that she's coming over to her house and helps her to be herself. She throws out the clothes that the popular people wear and keeps the clothes that's Cara's style. She also gives Cara a new look.

After teaching Cara to be herself she quits choir because she hated it from the beginning and her best friend is also in choir and is giving her an attitude. So she quits in the middle of class and throws her $180 dollar choir dress in the trash.

In Jenny's social life she knows that she doesn't love Luke even though tabloids say "Luke falls for small town Girl!" "Luke and teen girl, in love!" She knows that she loves, Scott who've she known since 5th grade and has been good friends with him. She tries to ignore the fact that yes, she's in love with Scott.

Just before the spring fling Jenny and Trina make up. Luke takes Jenny to the spring fling and basiclly says "I don't love you, I love her!" And points to the teen girl who works with Jenny making the school paper.

Later Jenny tells Scott she loves him and everything falls into place. Her life isn't Complicated anymore!

I gave this book 4 stars because the beginning isn't that great. It takes about 100 pages for you to get intreasted.

I actually liked this book a lot. I read it in about 3 hours. The main character, Jen, was developed really well by the author, and I grew to like her a lot, as if she was my friend or something. But the other characters, like basically everyone else, although I knew stuff ABOUT them, I never really got to know them. For instance, Gherr (or whatever her name is) I didn't like at all, she was superficial and always mad at her boyfriend for no reason. I don't understand how a person in this book who was really nice and smart (avoiding spoiler) could possibly have fallen in love with her, especially in like 2 1/2 weeks! All in all, I really loved the writer's style and voice (Jen, 1st person) but I feel like I didn't really care about any of the other characters besides Jen. Like, they could have all died (including Luke and what's his face) and I wouldn't have cared less. So that is why I only gave this book three stars, the author needs to work on developing her supporting characters more, I am thinking. Has a great message though.

I was a bit leary about this book and the format it was written, but I have to say it pulled me in from the very first page. It was so funny, I found myself laughing out loud on so many occasions. I also work in a law firm so the jabs at the lawyers made it even better (I completely understood what they were talking about!). It's a quick read, but definitely worth it! My only complaint with the book is that we didn't get more details on Mitch & Kate - I would have liked for them to have spent more time together. Oh well, I guess I need to get the next book to see how they are doing.

I starting reading this book right after I had finished The Boy Next Door. At first I was only reading it to see what was going on from the charaters with in that book as they are closly related yet this is not a sequel. Well I found myself just as engulfed into this book as I was in the first. It is a quick read because you find yourself not wanting to put it down. It has the characters you have to love and the characters that you know you have to hate! I recommend it to anyone who like a light hearted romance novel!

Read this in one sitting. I enjoyed Jessica's narration immensely. Jess is a heroine to love, she's tough, defends her best friend and has a huge crush on a bad boy. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. Its a new concept on an life changing event where finding lost children is the reward. This book was easy reading and impossible to put down. Can't wait to read the next one.

This is the first series by Meg Cabot that i have read. I loved it. Jess is funny and admirable, always standing up for people who dont do it for themselves. Jess is a regular girl with anger management issues who gets struck by lightning and wakes up knowing the location of missing kids. She has a crush on a guy named Rob (gotta love him) who is 2 years older than her and wont date her. Everything is ok until she finds someone who does not want to be found. The rest you have to read for yourself to find out.
Series is great. GO JESS!!!!!!! :)

I really like Susannah's character because she kind of sassy and a "kick butt" kind of girl. She's got a really strong personality but it has many of the issues that a teen girl faces...being embarrassed...wanting a boyfriend, and all that.

All in all, this is turning out to be a solid series in the genre of urban fantasy and I highly recommend.

Not very good, in my opinion

I really enjoyed the first book in the series, ( Shadowland (The Mediator, Book 1) ) it seemed unique enough. But this one... well first I'd like to point out that in this book Meg Cabot repeats a lot of things she said in the first book. I mean yes I suppose it's nice to make the books so you really dont have to start at the beginning of the series to understand what is going on, but there is a fine line between that, and repeating an ENTIRE PARAGRAPH WORD FOR WORD from the first book ( which Cabot DID do ). During most of this book it seemed to me that Meg Cabot just did not know what to write. It all seems like she just improvised, and, most of it is repeated stuff from Shadowland ( if not word for word, than the basic idea of it ). Thankfully, in the later books this doesnt happen so often, so if you can bare through this one, than the series is over all pretty interesting.
Also, it gets very annoying how obsessed Suze is with getting a boyfriend; like its the only thing that matters, ever. And how being a Mediator " Is so horrible Oh i just wish I was normal " ( This continues on throughout the series ).

Not as great as the first book

The novel starts off with Suze being at a pool party. While Suze is at this pool party, she meets an attractive guy named Tad Beaumount. After the party, Suze wakes up in the middle of the night to a screaming ghost of a woman. The woman tells Suze to tell someone named 'Red' that he didn't kill her.

With the help of her friends CeeCee and Adam, Suze tracks down a multi-millionaire businessman with the nickname of Red. Suze also finds out that Tad Beaumount is the son of this multi-millionaire. Jesse warns Suze not to get in contact with Red and that it would only cause trouble. Suze ignores Jesse's warnings and gets in contact with Red. Soon Suze finds out that Jesse's warnings were right and that things are not as they seem.

'The Ninth Key' Was a really interesting book but I just don't think it was as great as 'Shadowland'.
Don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed this book but it could have been improved a bit.
There were events that were very suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat but most of these events were kind of un-necessary (You'll have to read the book to find out because it would spoil the book if I said why they were unneccessary).
I also agree with another reviewer that said that this book would have been better if it had been a short story or if it had been a part in the first book.

A Good Sequel

Book #2 in the Mediator series by Meg Cabot opens about a week after the first book ended. Suze, mediator at large, is suddenly visited in the middle of the night by a screaming ghost begging her to tell "Red" that she knows he didn't kill her. With a cryptic message like that, Suze checks around to find out who might be called Red, leading her to a prominent businessman and his hunky son, Tad. Delivering her message is easier said than done, and Suze becomes uneasy when she's rushed out of the strange home of Red Beaumont (even though she's definitely attracted to Tad). Imagine her surprise when the ghost reappears, accusing her of not delivering the message at all, and she runs into a second ghost who tells her Beaumont is responsible for HER death. What's going on? Does Suze have the right person? Is Red Beaumont a cold-blooded murderer? Is he a vampire? What about Jesse, the hot ghost living in her bedroom? Will Tad ask her out?

This is a very good sequel to the first book in this series. Suze is finding an ally in Father Dominic, a fellow mediator, and her circle of friends is growing in her new home. We also meet her father, a ghost who has traveled across the country to give his daughter advice. This story, while of course focusing on the mediator aspect, also brings Suze into a more complex mystery and shows us her survival skills outside of her ghostly talents. There's a pretty good twist towards the end, and the tension between Suze and Jesse is intensifying. This is a fun series, not meant to be taken too seriously, and I look forward to reading more. Surprisingly well done, if you enjoy paranormal romance and suspense, you'll definitely like this one.

Then theres Micheal. The one who crashed into the car the sent the RLS Angels plummeting off a mountian side to the untimley death. His sister in is a coma from falling into a pool drunk at one of the RLS Angel's parties. Everyone gave up hope on her ever awakining. There is Micheals motive but did he really kill four people. The Mediator 3: Reunion is about Suze Simon, a fifteen-year-old girl with a very special gift, she can speak to those beyond the grave. Awesome, right? Wrong. Ghosts aren't always the most cooperative people. So, when Suze tries to help four teenage ghosts that were in a car accident, they aren't very thankful, unless you'd say that trying to kill her is a proper "thank you". However, Suze will find out some secrets about someone she never thought would keep them from her and that this car accident might not have been an accident at all.
This book teaches readers always to be happy with who they are. Suze has to try to accept that she is a mediator and has to adapt to being haunted every day of her life. She's spunky and her attitude is as unpredictable as the weather but she's also very generous and always willing to help. It really shows people how we take everyday things for granted.
Meg Cabot does an extraordinary job with this book with a perfect balance of mystery, teen troubles, and family issues. It takes you deep into Suze's life and feelings. I couldn't pry my fingers off of it. The Mediator is an amazing series and I've read most of them, but this one was by far my favorite. So, if you like suspense and surprises, you'll love The Mediator 3: Reunion.

I know that I should have seen this one coming, but I didn't. I liked Princess Diaries but the same problems that I had with those books are the same ones that I had with this one. Victoria is stuck up, snooty, and has a very large nose which she manages to poke into everybody's business. Jacob Carstairs isn't, in actuality, that bad, and while Victoria comes to realize it in the end, it is annoying to listen to her ranting and obsessing about all the little problems she sees.
All in all, I didn't really care for this one. I would suggest some of the others in the Avon True Romance series like: Samantha and the Cowboy or Tess and the Highlander.

Well, i read Nicola and The Visicount, Meg Cabot's other historical book, and i didnt like it all that much. So i didnt really feel like reading this one. However, i saw it at my local library and i picked it out to read. I loved it! It was much better than the pther book and was funny, interesting and had memorable characters. It's more like Meg Cabot's other books than like the Nicola book. It's enjoyable and funny, so i'd reccomend it to all Meg Cabot lovers. Dont overlook this book just because you didnt like the other historical book. This one's actually good. :)

Enchanting Tale

Review Date: 2007-02-15
This is a historical book for teens, and is definitely a take-off of Jane Austen in many ways. The time period is the early 1800s and the young women of that era (those about 16 or 17) are already seeking husbands and becoming engaged. Nicola, an orphan, is no different. She has become engaged to one of the most eligible bachelors in town - Lord Sebastian. But, is the fair-haired Lord all he seems? The book is part mystery, a part growing-up tale, and a cutesy romance. I really enjoyed Nicola and her headstrong ways, and she was a lot of fun because she spoke her mind and did what she wanted. I loved the old-fashioned way of writing, but Cabot definitely interlaced the book with a lot of modern humor. For instance, Nicola has just completed a finishing school for women, and tries desperately to fulfill the duties of a proper lady. She is hardly ever successful, and Cabot uses almost ever social outing of Nicola's to inject humor over her lack of ladylike qualities. A really different approach from Meg Cabot and a really cute book for female readers.

This book surprised me because Meg Cabot generally writes more modern themed books. That is one of the reasons I got it, to see if Cabot wrote another excellent book. I was happy to see that she had! Nicola and the Viscount is about an orphan girl named Nicola who lives in the late 1800s. She is madly in love with a gentleman named Lord Sebastian Bartholomew. When she learns that Lord Sebastian isn't quite who she thought he was, she doesn't know what to do.
This book was nicely written and the story was good, but it lacked excitement. Everything just happens to fit into place perfectly, when she is in danger there just happens to be somebody there to save her. Theres no feeling of, "OMG whats going to happen next!" like there is in most of Cabots books.
Luckily, that is my only complaint! Another great book by Cabot!

Of course this book has limitations. But when all is said and done, it's fabulous. Entertaining, fun, adorable, all the right amounts of romance, humour, and suspense. This is the kind of light chicklit historical romance that you'd think so many should be able to pull off, but they don't. I LOVE the element of the love interest whom she's known her whole life and is too stupid to see right in front of her and oblivious to the fact that he's falling in love with her. There is nothing particularly surprising about the plot and characters, it's just all done so well that you wonder why others can't replicate, why something so simple that can produce such delight isn't replicated more often. Hilarious, warm, consistently entertaining, this made me smile the whole way through and I absolutely fell in love with Nicola and her..for the purposes of not spoiling the plot, let's just say her man. The point is, this is a great chick-flick-ladies-and viscounts novel, that every single person, whether a teen or not, should enjoy. (And watch out for those lethal brown eyes!)

But I still liked it a lot. I just felt more bad things could of happened to keep me on the edge. It wasn't boring persay, but it deffinatley could of been stronger. This is proably her worst book and i've read all but two except for her Princess Diaries Series. This is her worst and its still 4 stars, and that says something. Her best book is Avalon High. all the books in between are amazing!
Read 'em all!

I am a big fan of Meg Cabot's adult books, and a couple of her YA. I read How to be Popular looking for some light, entertaining reading. It was alright, not bad, but not anything that kept making me want to read. It wasn't a total waste of time, but had I known what it would be like, I probably would have skipped it. After having read Geek High and especially Cindy Ella, this book paled in comparison.

Steph Landry certainly wouldn't be classified as popular. The entire popular group at school hates her for something that was an accident. Her mom isn't too awful happy with her right now due to the fact that she's still talking to her grandfather, who sold land to developers, thus putting the family business in jeopardy. But Steph's determination to be well liked is in full throttle when she finds a book with detailed instructions on how to become popular. But it might get her more than she bargained for...

How to be Popular is yet another one of Cabot's many novels that capture the angst, vibrancy, and drama of teenage life perfectly. Though it may seem like Steph's instant popularity is a bit of a fluke, this is a novel that caters to both sides, as Steph realizes that popularity with the "In Crowd" may be fun, but is not the greener side of the pasture, and that being well liked among her own group of friends and people she actually likes is way more important. Besides the story being lively and entertaining, the advice that Steph follows is helpful and on the ball, and will appeal to the readers as much as the story does, creating yet another fun and instantly likable novel for the scads of Cabot fans.

This book was just as fast-paced as the first one. I read it in less than a day, just like the first one, and fans of the first book will not be disappointed. I was so happy with the ending. It seems like Jess is learning, even if it is slowly.

I am a big fan of Meg Cabot I've read I think a little more than 10 of her books and liked all but one. This book I love although I'm almost finished 80% really.
But I love the humor and the slight romance and how she writes makes me read so fast that I'm like "Where's the next one? Ah!!! I don't have it, must go get it" (Not literaly but you get the point (it's a really good book))
I was acually hopeing that someone would reas this and know what I'm talking about, if you own a copy of this book, in the back there is an advertisment for another book and it sounds really interesting to me so I wanted to look into it but the title is ripped because my miniture beagle got a hold of my copy therefore many pages are damgaged so if anyone knows the title to what I'm talking about I'd appreciate it if you could e-mail me the title. [...]
This is a little of the description on the back.
"When I was six months old, I dropped from the sky-the lone survivor of a deadly Japanese plane crash. The newspapers named me Heaven. I was adopted but a wealthy family in Tokyo, pampered, and protected. For nineteen years, I thought I was lucky. I'm learning how wrong I was."
If you know the title of this book would you please e-mail me with it, thank you.

Do you remember the parables of the talents? Jess would hate that one. All she wants to do is bury her talent under a bushel, in a hole, or anything. Or lose it. Whatever, she just wants to be a normal girl and get Rob Wilton to declare his undying love for her. She'll settle for the latter, oh- and get the FBI off her back. You see, since being hit by lightening, she is psychic, and can find missing people once she sees their picture. Naturally, the fibbies are interested. Since Jess does not want to wind up a lab rat, she has lied, saying she lost her powers. Still, she regularly makes secret calls to the missing persons' hotline to tell them where a missing child might be found.
When she gets a job as a summer camp counselor, life looks great, even if Rob was not exactly broken up over her being gone for weeks. She doesnt' even complain too much about being assigned a cabin full of bratty boys determined to drive her psychotic. Then, a father asks for her help in rescuing his child and a boy goes missing. Jess' secret can stay hidden or she can risk it all to save two kids.

With a moving message in a funny package, Ms. Cabot re-enforces the message of that parable, and also the necessity of self sacrifice for the good of others. Brava.
