A timely book for young readers.

"Mishap in Kaiserslautern" is the 18th book in author/artist Robert Quackenbush's popular Miss Mallard Mystery series. Young readers will enjoy reading about Miss Mallard, the unflappable ducktective, joining the U.S. Army to solve a case. The action takes place in Kaiserslautern, Germany where a number of U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force bases are located. Miss Mallard and her nephew, Willard Widgeon, are on the track of robbers who are depleting the Central Supply of the largest U.S. Army hospital for ducks in Europe called the Landsduck Regional Medical center. Quackenbush makes the most of the merry chase by having it occur during a hilarious White Asparagus Festival - a party to end all parties - when ducks crowd into cafes and laugh, sing "quack themselves hoarse" and stuff themselves with white asparagus. I highly recommend this newest adventure in a series that has been made into animated films for children's worldwide television programming by Cinar Corporation in co-production with Shanghai Animation Film Studio." This book is glorious...and not hard to find.

I don't know why this book doesn't receive the attention other arranging books get. This book gives you detailed examples and descriptions of various essential arranging techniques - such as writing for two voices, three voices, etc., when to harmonize passing tones vs. leaving them in the lead voice only, scoring chords for various instruments, and on and on. Mr. Delamont does an excellent job of answering the kinds of questions beginners are likely to have, and the book features exercises at the end of each chapter, as well as an appendix with SUGGESTED answers.

Owning more than one arranging book can't hurt, but I rank this book up there with 'Jazz Arranging' by Norman David, 'The Professional Arranger/Composer' by Russell Garcia, and the Berklee Press books, as being one of the most educational and useful arranging books around (the Leslie Sabina book looks pretty good, too, but I haven't gotten to it, yet).

If you want learn the techniques of arranging, and already have a good grasp on jazz theory/harmony, I recommend this and those other books. The books by Sebesky, Mancini, Nestico, and Riddle are all worth having, but they assume you know the basic techniques that arranging requires - the same techniques that the Garcia, David, Berklee Press, and Delamont books teach so well.

And don't be thrown off by the book's unavailability on Amazon, if you type the author and title in Google, you will find sources (ex. the publisher's website) that still carry it. In fact, I special ordered a new copy from my local music store less than a month ago for $40.00.

I'm enjoying this book so much, I intend to eventually purchase the other books Delamont has written.

This is an exceptional children's book. The story of Peter is beautifully woven through illustrations that are nothing short of magical. There's are messages about kindness, greed, and living simply, but they never jeopardize the enchantment.

Excellent View of "PC" in Canada

It appears as though the harmful thought-and-speech suppression movement so harmlessly called "political correctness" hasn't confined itself to America. In this very good book, John Fekete exposes the PC movement on the campuses of Canada's universities, so destructively similar to that which has overrun not only America's university campuses, but so many professional and personal areas of American life. Sadly, it appears America's neighbor to the north is emulating some of the worst examples of American behavior. Read this book, and hopefully become inspired to fight against this subtle but effective form of thought control. Many thanks to Mr. Fekete for having the courage to stand up.

Very nice little book: good values, good prose

Mother Hen is not in the farmyard. Where could she be? Of course, like any good mother hen with a nest full of eggs, she's sitting on her eggs. The farm cat, dog, cow and horse all ask her why she's not outside enjoying the day. Mother Hen's response is always, "Cluck, click, I can't come out. I must sit on my eggs and keep them warm." Afterward, Mother Hen "fluffed out her feathers and settled herself again on her nest of soft, golden hay, where she cuddled her ten white eggs." The repetition of these phrases is calming as it's carried through the book. The dialog between the animals helps the story to flow, as well as helping children to identify with the characters.

What wonderful values Mother Hen teaches children. Sometimes there are obligations beyound what we want to do. In the end, Mother Hen is rewarded for her faithfulness -- her ten white eggs yield ten yellow chickens. The cat, dog, cow and horse celebrate with Mother Hen. Offspring are indeed a blessing.

At first, I found the illustrations too disjointed for children. Mine, however, have had not difficulty identifying with them. They are bright and colorful watercolor (I believe). The illustrations are not too busy, but contain enough objects to identify for younger children.

My rating of this unassuming little book has increased as I've watched my children interact with it. The small nature of the book fits nicely in children's hands. It's lasted very well with two small boys, both of whom really enjoy reading _Mother Hen_.

This compilation is raw yet creative. The photographer captures the youth and playfulness of his subjects in the passage of time displayed in various subjects' photos. You will be invited to look at this work repeatedly.
