As an intermediate player, I'm called upon to sight read on many sub gigs. This is very hard for me because I took a 27 year break from music and never was a strong sight reader. Greg's duets force me and my wife to concentrate both on counting and articulation. It's slow going, but will pay off if we keep at it. And it doesn't hurt that the lessons build on each other and are fun to play to book. Every once in a while you say to yourself, "Hey, that's a Charlie Parker riff or some such." It's like finding treasure. Thanks for doing this Greg!

This book satisfies a great need for an authentic, raw, yet sensitive collection about Jean Michel Basquiat, as a person and an artist. I value this book for more than its appearance, which is so well done. It's quality helps to preserve the legacy of his life and work. The collaborators did a fantastic job.

Jessie Willcox Smith's work is enjoying somewhat of a welcome resurgence. Her knack of capturing the innocence and purity of childhood is a refreshing counterpoint to the publicized horrors of today's news. She seemed able to capture something in children that even those closest to them had missed...my mother-in-law, who is at present nearly 94 years old, appears in this book twice: one painting of her was done at age three, and the other at age six. She refers to the painting of herself at age six, which hangs in her office area in her assisted living residence, as "me in my better days."

Saltbush Bill is an old farmer living in the Austrailian Outback. He is a frumpy old guy with a frumpy old wife, and together they are trying to keep their farm going. It looks like a hot, dusty, miserable place. I like the comics, but I also love the drawings. Jolliffe could make the same jokes with simple drawings, but instead he fills up the pages with interesting landscapes and details. You can tell that underneath those cartoons is a great artist.

I'm 22 and I have a 3 year old nephew. I went to the library to pick up some books for myself and this book caught my eye, why? The bunnies! They are not "drawn" pictures, but actual PHOTO'S of REAL bunnies! They photography is wonderful and the story line is adorable!
It's about a family of bunnies, 2 of the baby bunnies being "twins". Everyone keeps calling the one bunny by his brothers name and he just wants to be himself! The book goes through all the suggestions from the other bunnies and in the end...well, I won't tell you how, but he becomes himself.
In the back there is reading tools for your children, that are great. Although my nephew isn't to that state, I read through the back and if your teaching your children to read, it has some great lessons and fun games to go with the book to help teach.
If your children love rabbits, buy this book!

Captured the imaginations of the western world then and now

Collaboratively written by W. Raymond Wood (Professor of Anthropology, University of Missouri-Columbia), Joseph C. Porter (Chief Curator, North Carolina Museum of History), and David C. Hunt (Director, Stark Museum of Art, Orange, Texas), and enhanced with numerous black-and-white illustrations and studio art reproductions, Karl Bodmer's Studio Art is a truly captivating collection of images and an informative, scholarly study of the works of Karl Bodmer, a Swiss artist whom Prince Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied selected for an 1833-34 expedition up the Missouri River. Bodmer sketched and painted landscapes and Native American portraits which uniquely captured the imaginations of the western world then and now. Enthusiastically recommended for academic and community library Art History and American History reference collections, Karl Bodmer's Studio Art focuses more on the story of Bodmer's journey than the art itself, yet both the text and the illustrations have a timeless appeal.

This is a great book for anyone who sits in a cublicle, a corporate meeting room, or a dead-end 9-5'er dreaming of a way out. It is possible to break free and do it. This is delightful story of a man who did just that and came to live a better life by refusing to accept the slavery of a polyester tie and gambled with a life at sea. A must-read for anyone who has ever wondered about the road not taken or what's over the horizon.
