I was looking for a biography on Joyce and was pleasantly surprised by this one. I picked it up for a very cheap price. Despite the fact that it is brief, it offers the basic outlines of the great man's life and is an excellent introductory work. There seems to be pictures on every page which was a wonderful side benefit as the visual images tell a story of their own. Before reading this, I really had no idea as to how autobiographical Joyce's fiction was. That so many of characters parallel people he knew was unexpected given the unbridled level of creativity he possessed. Upon finishing it, I immediately wanted to read more about his life in Trieste and Paris which I will do in the future.

An authoritative review of the Navies of 49 countries.

"Jane's" is probably the world's leading byword when it comes to information about ships especially, though not exclusively, ships of the world's navies. In this special edition of those warships which existed during WW1 we are treated to the full specifications of each vessel complete with the same information with regards to it's machinery and armament.

Each section (Navy) commences with waterline silhouette profiles of the entire fleet followed by individual classes of ships from biggest to smallest. For the vast majority of entries we have a detailed profile and deck view of each class of ship with all parts numbered and named. Additionally, in most cases the publishers have been able to include at least one photograph (often more than one) of each type of ship. However, the publishers do point out that some of these pictures are of an inferior quality but are included in the interests of completeness because no other pictures are available.

Various engineering and gunnery notes are also found in addition to more general information explaining the specific differences between various ships of the same class.

Altogether, typical 5 star material from an established publisher of high quality material.

"Jane's" is possibly the world's leading authority on ships especially, though not exclusively, naval ships of the world. In this special edition of those warships which existed during WW2 we find the full specifications of each vessel, it's machinery and armament. Any changes to those specifications plus ant difference between ships of the same class are also included.

As the reader might expect, each chapter is a different country and we commence with a waterline profile of that country's entire fleet followed by individual classes of ships from more or less from the biggest ships to the smallest. For the vast majority of entries we have a detailed profile and deck view of each class of ship with all parts numbered and named. The beauty of Japanese crafts as interpreted today

This is a very good introduction to the gorgeous arts of Japan done by contemporary craftsmen. There is a long Japanese tradition of ceramics, lacquerwork, woodwork, basketry, textiles, jewellery, metalwork and glass. The book covers modern interpretation of these age-old crafts. There are many full color plates, hence the price of the book. However, it is not possible to appreciate the intense craftsmanship and skill of the artisans without top quality photography. A beautiful book
