My son loves this book
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2004-10-26
My 2 year old loves the music in this book. He also likes the pictures but mostly he just wants to listen to the music over and over again. Each page has new lyrics for each of the songs. There are five pieces that the book plays. The music box part of the book takes those flat watch or camera batteries and info on the battery type is included with the book.

Great beginner kit!

This book is a great start for anyone who wants to try painting! It's clearly written, with great examples, and proceeds from beginning to end, building skills as you go along. The projects are clear, fun and easy enough for beginners, while yielding sophisticated results. I'm an art teacher, and I would definitely use this book with students, either child or adult.

An excessively wonderful anthology
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-03-26
When I saw the list of contributors in A Fine Excess, I knew immediately that this was something I needed to look into. I found it even better than I had expected. I wasn't confronted with the standard list of politically-correct writers, with their oatmeal-flavored politically-correct poetry, that's been the fare of most contemporary anthologies I've seen. On the contrary, this book shows tremendous editorial integrity and risk to put known-but-not-necessarily-liked authors like e. e. cummings alongside relative unknowns like Jeff McDaniel, without many sure-fire sellers. The few expected names that do pop up are in here on their own aesthetic merit, not because they were/are powerful, or because their work plugs into any particular ideology; the only agenda is to pull together a picture of really inventive, linguistically and intellectually daring work. As a whole, this text really works, too, building an aesthetic that's not only lucid and definite, but actually delightful.

Not only is A Fine Excess a treasure to page through on a chilly afternoon, but I would also wholeheartedly recommend it as a text for a creative writing class--with the one caveat that it should be used in conjunction with discussion of authors like Shakespeare, Donne, Eliot, and so forth. The writers selected for A Fine Excess have a firm grounding in this kind of literary bedrock; the glorious thing is that they show us just how far, and how gracefully, a talented writer can leap into the artistic aether.

The book is laced with "Helpful Hints" to make the projects easier and suggestions on how to modify the pattern to create something different. Excellent Patterns and Guidance
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2001-12-04
This is an excellent pattern book for the Western/Southwestern deigns. Judy Gale Roberts, as with all the "Fine Line Design" series, offers some excellent patterns with some useful hints laced throughout the book. There are 36 full sized patterns ranging from 8 x 11 to the fold out 11 x 17 patterns. Also scattered in the book are various smaller projects. Advice is given on how to utilize various different techiques to take a single pattern and make it a shelf, key chain holder, clock, plaque or a shadow box.

The commentary is not at the beginning of the book, but rather right at the pattern through out the book. This allows the user to see exactly how the 'helpful tip' can be incorporated into the project.

The eye catching collection of designs in this book will offer the user countless opportunities to excell at the their work. You will have no problem interpreting July Gale Roberts designs.

Great way to learn Fireworks!

I really enjoyed this cd set (there are two). Like one of the other people who reviewed this item, I was sad to get to the end of the tutorials. This cd training set is a great way to supplement book materials on Fireworks MX 2004. This isn't necessarily a set for the "advanced" Fireworks user. If you're like me and want to get a good start learning Fireworks, this set is the way to go! Although a little pricey, the product is well worth the cost. This is not an interactive training course necessarily, but you can follow along using your copy of Fireworks with the excercise files that are included. If you have two monitors set side-by-side, you're in even better shape to take advantage of this great learning tool (view tutorial on one side, follow along with Fireworks on the other).

Appealing look & find Disney fun for toddlers!

The soft, padded cover and lavish Disney pictures on shiny board pages will dazzle toddlers new to the adventures of look and find books.

As an additional bonus for parents, there are interactive activities. Each set of activities focuses on a separate skill, such as colors, rhyming, counting, etc. It's nice that the pages are wipe-clean!

This is a fun book to share with your child.

This title is THAT good. Like another reviewer said, you may find the narration a bit slow, but if you hold down the FF button you can still understand him. If you've gotten through all the beginner stuff, this is a great next step to take.

Again, some people might find it slow, because he does a lot of hand holding through the exercises. However, if you aren't 100% on your ActionScript 2.0 skills yet, it might be just what you need to build your skills as well as your confidence as an AS programmer. That's exactly what it has done for me.

And if you REALLY want to get most out of this, get the "Beyond the Basics" book as well, and take your notes in there as you follow along.

Another great book from this publisher
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-14
I'm on chapter 10 of this book and I've only found one error so far, which is simply amazing (the preloader demo referred to in the book is missing from their web site, which is a trivial thing since it works perfectly using the files from the CD that comes with the book). Shane Rebenschied is thorough. He explains everything in detail, so that it is crystal clear. I own a couple other books by this publisher and both of them are as good as this one. I would highly recommend this book.
