What a wonderful book. I read this to my little girl last night and she absolutely loved it. In this original story the dazzling gypsy Esmeralda and her mischievous goat, Djali, arrive in Paris, friendless and penniless. But through a series of amusing mishaps, they soon meet the puppeteer Clopin, and are invited into a world of love and friendship.
Excellent story book for your little ones.

I love how Standring breaks all this down. Most of the major ideas are obvious, but the author shows you how to apply these in real life. The detail is the key.
I like the stylistic examples used and the charts at the end. This really gives a novice like myself and idea of what to look for in the studio (I personally haven't done much outside of the bands I play for regularly) The advice from the pros was fascinating. I could've read another 20 or so interviews like that.
The focus on capturing the style, not wasting anyone's time or money, and playing with good rhythm are all pretty obvious, but they're presenting in very important ways. The business aspects and consideration of competition and modern recording techniques are equally important.
The only thing I could ask to improve this would be an inclusion of a transcription of each of the interviewee's favorite riff/punch/solo/overdub etc. and the context. Maybe Lukather could say "Well, on that solo for the Tubes' "Talk To You Later" I had to..." But I suppose that would be a publishing nightmare so I shouldn't complain.

I was introducted this past weekend to Arthur Geistert's body of work via an exhibit of his various etchings and books at the renowned Art Institute of Chicago. They were, in a word, exquisite. Parents will enjoy them as much as older children in subject matter as well. I was wishing that I could buy the etchings framed and display them at home. I plan to order his books for myself, and I don't have children!

This is the ULTIMATE book on Brangwyn, the price is a bargain at anywhere under $250. It has all of Frank Brangwyn's etchings, it's amazing to see just how much work he did in his career. Some images reproduced larger than others. A real inspiration.

The book was more informative of Eva's life and persectives on art than another I purchased at greater by twice the price! The photos were excellent and the pieces chosen for representation were all my favorites! The biography can't be passed over, for it is what has developed her into the admirable woman life and hardship has made her. I bought it to give to a close friend who is a potter, but now it's mine to keep! Janet

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. - Proverbs 17:22
While most in this audience knows that "Adventures in Odyssey" is a wonderful, episodic audio drama. Sadly few have heard of "Jungle Jam and Friends the Radio Show". These programs are wildly humorous and still scripturally sound and philosophically deep. My kids have worn out TWO complete sets--and we're on our third! If your family is anything like ours, you'll be hooked after the first CD. There are two basic character groups.
The first characters are a bunch of charming animals who live out clever and compelling object lessons. One of our (Mom's & Dad's) favorite involves animals intentionally hitting themselves in the head with coconuts (clunking) as an analogy for drug use / addiction. There are lots of wonerfully rich animals--with far more personality than the humans in most stories!
The second set of characters come into play in parallel stories interspersed between the jungle stories and involving a human kid (Marvy), and sometimes his sister (Katy) who get magically transported to a place called Razzleflabben Island which is populated by large, furry ceatures called the Razzleflabbens. It's no less creative, funny or profound than the Jungle. It might appeal to a somewhat older (cooler) youth audience.
Our experience of the series is that all are so entertaining that they are enjoyable for everyone from 5 to 85! We hope you enjoy them too.

An ideal addition to any school or community library collection, Cath Senker's Everyday Life In Ancient Greece is an informative survey of everyday life and is exceptionally colorful with durable plastic overlays adding color to re-created scenes.

This is a great resource for planning your trip to Disneyland.
Very informative read for the rides, attractions, places to stay. The worksheets are very helpful as well, to keep the information in one place. I also suggest Birnbaums Guide to accompany this and you have a full and well-rounded set of guides to plan your trip and day-to-day activities.
I also suggest joining some message boards to assist you in your planning. Simply Google or do an internet search of "Disney trip planning message board" and you will have quite a few to choose from. Have fun at the Happiest Place on Earth!

Excellent Overview of a Small but Powerful Movement/Getting to Know Films You'll Never See

okay so i havent really read much of this book; which seems very collegiate in that it could well be used as a companion textbook for advanced study in film. i'd found it originally in a thrift store somewhere in new jersey and was immediately stricken by the over-100 photos and stills in the middle section, fabulous slices of film.
from pre-wwi russian, and european, films to late 60s american psychedelics, it seems to be a pretty comprehensive guide to the development of style, format, and the expansions of ideas in worldwide avant-garde movements up to its publishing date in 1971. it begs for further research, if you have the wherewithall to actually track any of these films down.
those stills are amazing though. i'm here at amazon to buy a couple more copies as these stills are great for collages, and my original copy's almost totally depleted.
highly reccommended for artists of ALL types.
