I was just learning to cross stitch, and I wanted small projects that would give me a sense of completion. But most of the "learn to cross stitch" type books had patterns I didn't like. These were cute, small, simple, and plentiful!

Great for bed time reading.
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-12-03
This book is terrific for beginners. It stars Herry, a blue muppet. Herry is looking for something in his toy chest. Each page shows Herry pulling something out of the chest. It begins with the letter A, as Herry pulls out an accordion, and continues until every letter of the alphabet has been shown.

Every page has a colorful picture that small children will enjoy as you read to them. Simple sentences accompany the illustrations to help children learn to sound out words and read.

***** This book has been around for years now and has been reprinted more than once. You may be able to find it in a used book store. However, I suggest you go ahead and purchase it new. Children love the Sesame Street's books. It WILL be read over and over. If you get it used, chances are good that you will have to get a second copy. Very educational. Highly recommended! *****

From baby to adult - letters for life
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-23
When I saw this booklet, I couldn't wait to get my embroidery floss and needle out. My grandchildren all wanted their initials on various jackets, sweatshirts and pillowcases. The littlest boys wanted Space, Bugs All Around or the Creepy Crawly letters while the new baby's mom wanted Noah's Ark on her little girl's sweater. The older kids wanted Fiesta Folk Art which looks like a Mexican Fiesta and our "little princess" wanted In the Garden letters on her pillowcase and Once Upon a Time on a blanket to go in her play castle.

Needless to say, I had to get busy. The graphics were large enough for my "over 40" eyes to read without having to get new glasses and with the color prints of the letters on the same page, even if I had a question of which symbol was what, the photo made sure I didn't!

The last page in the book gives general instructions on working with carts and explanation of stitches in case I forgot what Mom taught me as a small girl. I have a feeling that as the children grow and their tastes change, I will be using this book for a long while. I can see my "off to college" grandchildren wanting an elegant initial on a blouse or pillowcase for their life on campus!

The photographs in this book are stunning. It's hard to believe that what appear to be abstract paintings are actually cleverly framed photos of painted walls in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, but they are -- and they're gorgeous! This book is for anyone interested in abstract color photography.

One of the best histories of the Actors Studio.
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-29
Easy to read, laced with humor and insightful anecdotes, this book is a must read for anyone interested in the inside story of the Actors Studio.

Starting with Stanislavski's contribution to the "impulse of art" which led to the formation by Lee Strasberg, Harold Clurman and Cheryl Crawford of the Group Theatre (still unmatched in American Theatre history as America's only true ensemble theatre company), and continuing through the development of the Actors Studio until 1980 (the year the book was published), writer David Garfield has revealed the "inner lives" of this astounding ensemble cast of characters with a wonderfully neutral perspective on their often publicized idiosyncrasies. This book will dispel, once and for all, much of what has been misunderstood about "method" acting.

Every serious actor or student of theatre should read and re-read this amazing chronicle... --Harry Governick, Artistic Director, TheatrGROUP

Excellent book for Production Studio owners
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-12-13
This book is very clear about it's purpose - it doesn't cover the basics of working in the Production Studio, nor does it attempt to explain a lot of the in's and out's of the software. What it does do is take a lot of the most frequently used workflows and procedures and break them down into 100 "How-To" bites that are clear and concise.

Sidebars abound throughout this book, and screen shots illustrate without confusion. If you are already familiar with the Production Studio and just want to know a little bit more about some major options in each of the softwares, this book could be just the thing for you.
