If you are an artisan looking for unusal and beautiful patterns, I think that you'll enjoy this c.d., as well as the other ones from Paned Expressions Studio. The images are presented in both black and white and in color and can easily be modified to suit your needs or wants. I have enjoyed working with them and plan on purchasing additional c.d.s of his.

Just about every flower you'd ever want to capture in stained glass in this collection. These are the best patterns available today. Every piece so lifelike you'd think there would be a lovely fragrance emanating from the floral windows when you get them done. Every pattern is shown in glass to make choosing glass easier. Thanks so much for offering these great designs to the rest of us who can't draw!

This second book from scott robertson is just as amazing as his "lift off" book. This book has real world examples of the creative process that it takes to create a vehicle from a simple idea to a final render. Tons of amazing sketches are inspirational and just candy for your eyes. I love this book and never get tired off looking at it. I recomend it to anyone in the design field who is looking for fresh ideas and work for inspiration

Amazingly powerful

I have only read the first nine volumes ("Sanctuary" being number 7) but out of all of them I think "Sanctuary" is the most powerful. The emotions are raw and the pain is real. There are some very funny moments, and there is unbelievable tragedy. I have gone back and read this volume again and again and every time I see something new. This is Terry Moore's storytelling at its best- the only other volume that comes close in its power is "I Dream Of You" (number 2). As the other reviewer here has said, the other volumes provide backstory you need to make sense of the events, and they are good in their own right, but none of them even approach the power of "Sanctuary."

Some of the best Strangers in Paradise yet.

Strangers in Paradise: Volume 7: Sanctuary compiles the following issues into one collection: Volume 3, Issue 17: My Old Addiction; Volume 3, Issue 18: If I Wake Up; Volume 3, Issue 19: Nothing Gold Can Stay; Volume 3, Issue 20: Talk to Me; Volume 3, Issue 21: The Silence of Friends; Volume 3, Issue 22: Years to Go; Volume 3, Issue 23: Fear of Swimming; and Volume 3: Issue 24: I, Me, Mine.

I very much recommend reading the first six volumes of this series (The Collected Strangers in Paradise, I Dream of You, It's a Good Life, Love Me Tender, Immortal Enemies, and High School), as they provide vital backstory (and are well worth reading in their own right) (check my profile for reviews of these other collections).

Wow. Sanctuary is, in my opinion, the most powerful, most emotionally-charged Strangers in Paradise collection yet. You know that something has gone horribly awry when the book starts and you see Francine, much older, much more broken down by life, and without Katchoo. (If these scenes look familar, don't worry, you're not imagining things. They're much the same opening scenes as used in Strangers in Paradise: Volume 4: Love Me Tender.) There is something deeply wrong with Francine, a soul-searing emptiness that is slowly killing her spirit to live, and to love. Seeing her only daughter wither away, Francine's mother does the only thing she can do: she calls in the big guns.

The majority of this collection is spent reviewing the events leading up to the ten-year schism between the best friends. As you can imagine, there's a lot of pain, a lot of anguish, a lot of misunderstanding, a lot of violence (well, Katchoo is involved...), and a lot of stubbornnes. And in the midst of all this, Katchoo gets famous, Casey finds a new love, Freddie Femur once again proves himself to be slime, Francine learns something about herself, and David gets a surprise (or three) of his own.

One thing I did find disconcerting throughout Sanctuary was the apparent slight change in artwork. I found the changes in Katchoo most disturbing. She didn't... feel... like Katchoo to me. In fact, there were several times where I thought Casey more resembled Katchoo than Katchoo did. Very odd.

I highly recommend Sanctuary to any fan of solid storytelling about more-or-less believable characters (well, believable characters who have lead unbelievable lives?) with strong passions and strong loyalties.

One of my favorite books

This is one of the most entertaining books I have ever read. There are many different reasons why a person could like this book (I myself am very into physical culture and old time strongmen) but if you have any interest in the movie industry and how it was back in the day you will probably like this book. To me it was just mind blowing reading about a time when movie directors considered stuntmen expendable as long as the director got the shot he wanted. Bonomo was one of the top stuntmen in his time and a lot of the situations he got himself into could easily have been made into one of the many cliffhangers that he starred in.

This self-published (Bonomo Studios)autobiography is a wonderful feast for the eyes, in both narrative and crisp (some ridiculously retouched)black and white photos of Bonomo's career as and actor stuntman. Eclipsed by Charles Atlas and other "Strongmen" of the day, Bonomo's book let's us know that you don't need sand kicked in your face to have a colorful and interesting life. Every chapter is started with a artful title card similar to that of the 3 stooges, looney toons, or Batman: The animated series. Lots of larger-than-life "Stan Lee" hype on almost every page! "352 Thrilling Pages!" "and over 750 action photos!" C'mon! Buy it! I sure as heck ain't selling MY copy! No my brother, you gonna have to get your OWN copy.

This is the second book in a mystery series written from a pop star angle. The characters in Studio 54 have different names, but it's easy to see that they're based on Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis, and Robbie Williams. And it's Robbie Williams who gets it! The record mogul has overtones of Phil Spector and Alan McGee. The book is fun; it takes you on a wild journey from Manchester, to London, and through Berlin's underground minimal-techno scene. The author Davis, has an uncanny working knowledge of international drug trafficking.

I was far to young to really appreciate the magic that was Studio 54 - yes the legendary nightclub was even known on these far distant shores. So this beautiful book of photographs is a way to remember and revel in those carefree heady days. Almost every big celebrity of the time paid a visit to the club and they are all captured here in beautiful black and white photographs. Impressive. A great coffee table book.

This books glitters brighter then the club.

reviewing wonder
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-21
The Studio Book rewards with a cache of little wonders like fishes trekking home with you inside a box, biscuits in a basket, jewels on a tray. These wonders resemble - or rather, prefigure, I tell myself - the artist herself. The book's idea was born a treasure, and Lois guides it through the thicket to secure a useful, persuasive, pervasive, native manual of work and dreams, light and its concomitants, diligence (that is to say, humility) and its suzerainty. It's a damn beautiful book, every page used up and nothing wasted, its smallness huge and thoughtful, free, gutsy, never tricky; it admits no comparisons, indeed, ends up neither wishing nor inviting anything but its own promise and an open-hearted reader. Okay, even if the reader doesnt start off with heart opened, he will end with it not only opened but open-ended in a transfixion of the most amenable dimensions. There are many genial, and not a few generously great aspects of Templeton's art, but none greater than this: study the art of Lois Templeton, from the great canvases to the 'dinkies', and YOU WILL FIND NO CUNNING. Breathe that in, reader. You'll find no sarcasm, complaint, indifference, world-weariness, not a speck - all of which is to say you have located the bones and feathers, the silhouette, the manifestly whole transmission of centuries of Western art from the heart of a once-Midwestern woman deep into your own probably beleagured one. After that, you can stand up and fly. It's true, I've known Lois Templeton for more than thirty years, across miles ephemeral and trials that turn you homeward, against time, whose rough habits of diminution will burnish and furnish differing paths. Now, past the mid-point, I am clean to avow that I've not forsaken the kindness and trust she gave quickly, suddenly, knowingly to one who had known little enough of either - not only not forsaken it, but kept it close between my selves like a talisman, a treasure. So look toward awakening. Get this marvelous little book, go to Lois Templeton's beautiful website to find abundantly not only her remarkable paintings, but a rich and cozy chapter of the infinite possibilities of being human. Thank you, friend; may you paint for another thousand years. In the presence of your work, I'm chagrined to call myself an artist, of any kind.

I found this book to be a wonderful insight on how an artist works. The artist's candid thoughts are a rare treat. I thought the art that was selected for this book was incredible. After going through the book cover to cover, I was very curious to see more of her art and i found her website.

an excellent resource that is beautiful to browse through

Review Date: 2002-12-18
As a student who is interested in pursuing illustration, this book is a golden gem for it is a rather thorough journey that is fun to dive into. While many other books similiar to this would simply showcase all the artists' body of work, this book reveals the creative struggle that James McMullan went through with each poster to create an image that met his client's needs. Reference photographs of his models and early color and pencil studies depict the story that is accompanied with each poster that describes McMullan's process. Sometimes an early draft of one of his posters didn't hit the nail with the director of the play: the character depicted in the image needed to look older and more angry, less naive. Whatever the case, McMullan would have to go back and rework. And in some cases, he might even start over with an entirely new idea and take a different road with the poster. With each poster, there's a different story, a different process, a different challenge. And none of the posters that are shown in here have been neglected for the book reveals it all. Above all, I appreciate James McMullan's conceptual talent with his posters that manage to create an image that defines the play as a whole. With this book, it is a pleasure to find the process behind these posters as well as being able to gaze upon their beauty.

Rarely is one able to glimpse into the world of a well-known illustrator. But, in this book, the illustrator James McMullan, takes us into his studio and explains just how he has created the 36 posters, over a 30 year period, for New York City's Lincoln Center. The full-page reproductions of McMullan's posters combined with his lucid prose makes this a beautiful and highly engrossing book. When I went to buy McMullan's book the bookstore clerk said, "this is the most gorgeous book in the store." Indeed, he was right.

This is a great lesson in obedience! My boys -- 5 & 3 -- love this book, as do I! Theodore was given clear directions by the Dispatcher. He chose to do beyond what he was supposed to, because he got a little too sure of himself. I struggle with that with my boys all the time, so it's a great lesson for them!! Things worked out in the end, but Theodore found himself a little lost and frightened. It is also a lesson in friendship. I highly recommend it!
