Over 200 pages color WWII photographs lovingly reproduced on glossy, think paper. Most are carefully composed; some quickly snapped. Some are clearly designed to convey pro-Allie messages. Others just document stuff. I find it hard to put down.

Stunning and an eye opener. Untill I stumbled over this book a few years ago it had never occured to me that WW2 was anything but black and white. Even people who have no particular interest in the war are mesmerized when I show them the book.

Excellent book which present an entirely fresh look to a war we're so familiar with. Good enough for any war-buff and valuable resource material for modellers. Photos are of hi-quality, sharp and beautifully taken. T's unfortunate that many photos are rather static, but it is hardly anybody's fault. I'm eagerly looking forward for the next volume

What makes the collection fascinating is that much of this book is in the voices of the songwriters, or in the voices of those who knew them well. And if anyone is an expert on the lore of America's music, it's Max Wilk. The book was originally written in 1971. When it was updated 15 years later, many of the songwriters Wilk had originally interviewed were gone, so reading these chapters in the colorful voices of talents like the late Johnny Mercer, Ira Gershwin, Dorothy Fields, and Harry Warren, who, cigar in his mouth, told him about his three Oscars ("Ah, I use 'em for doorstops!")-- it's irreplaceable. Even Irving Berlin, reclusive and rather irascible, offered his own glimpse into the man behind all those songs. "If it's a collection of gags about the music business," said Berlin, "don't bother talking to me. I'm not a comedian." All these stories are there, plus those of other show business legends like Robert Russell Bennett, Joshua Logan, and nonagenarian P.G. Wodehouse. Taking this wealth of ingredients, Max Wilk put it all together, gave it a stir, got the mix cooking, and then sat back to let the voices take over. For all those who love the heritage of American popular music, get this book, sit back, and read about the masters. Then put on your CDs and listen again to the familiar music they wrote for us.END

This is a delightful and erudite picture of an industry that has touched every one of us, by a master of humor, insight, and deep personal knowledge of his subjectan d subjects. In this, the second...or third... important reprinting one would encourage anyone who enjoys our popular, not rock nor roll nor rap, music history to be amused by this volume.

I found this book in a second hand store in Sydney (Australia, where I live) about ten years ago. All I can say is I keep coming back to it and rereading it about once a year. It's chock full of anecdotal gems about famous and not-so-famous songwriters of the 20th century. To read of a young Leo Robin daring to tell Maurice Chevalier how to sing a song, or of Frank Loesser punching a soprano in the nose (and then yelling 'Forgive me') is priceless. If you have any interest in 20th century popular music, get it.

Too Much is a children's picturebook about the importance of restraining one's appetite and eating a healthy balanced diet. Simple rhyme brings home a message that all children need to learn as early as possible, especially in today's modern era of rising child obesity rates. "Your body will love you, be healthy and strong, / If you feed it wisely you'll never go wrong. // Let's not forget some things that are fun. / But, remember, nothing should be overdone." Cheerful, cartoony illustrations help bring home the point in this invaluable and positive-minded book highly recommended for both children's library and children's private collections.

I absolutely love this book! It is endearing, multicultural, and truly from the heart. If you want to share stories with children for a peaceful society, if you want them to understand that all people walk the same path, with the same frustrations, concerns, loneliness and it can be transcended, this is the book for you. If you want to integrate story during school or a yoga class, this book has everything to you need to begin exploring tales of wisdom. Heartfelt and intimate, Sydney Solis' life is devoted to healing all children and adults.

This book, The Treasure in Your Heart, lives up to its name and goes a long way to giving us a means to create a peaceful inner life for all of the children in our lives. It goes beyond its title, because this book is as effective for adults as it is for children. A definite must-have! From the moment I received my book in the mail, it was a delight. I opened the book, I could not put it down. Sydney has a way of sharing her love for yoga and story with love and in a way that makes it flow naturally and so it is simple to teach. I say this because I am a yoga teacher, for children, teens and for adults. I also am a mother of three teens and have found the contents of this book to be truly a treasure to draw from, a treasure chest full of ideas and stories that are wonderful, inspiring, and healing. I literally carry this treasure chest with me at all times, to all of my classes. It is wonderful for an in depth study, but also great when you need a quick inspiration or idea, a story for any occassion. Many of the stories are short and sweet, perfect to tell in an adult class as well. I have sometimes handed the book to a friend who read a story and felt it was the perfect one for them to read at that time. The book also has beautiful ideas for activities, poses, surrounding the themes, the treasures. Great information about how to turn any class or your own yoga practice into a healing, meditative experience. There are lots of ideas to help guide us in relaxation techniques, meditation, chanting, and other ways in which you can create peace in your practice and in your life. It is a great resource for a new or an experienced parent or teacher. I tell all of my students to add this book to their library! Enjoy!

This book will transcend you to a time and place that makes you feel at peace with nature. Merrick's writing is like poetry in motion. You will wish you could have been there to experience the times when he is at one with the universe. The people and places he is writing about no longer exist, which is the greatest pity of all.

A fascinating book! A well written account by a man who traveled extensively in the Canadian North in the 1930s, just as the traditional remoteness that had characterized that world was ending with the introduction of planes and other technologies. Merrick was a keen and sympathetic friend of the North, its history and its Native peoples.

The act of drawing the figure is not a magical one that most people would want you to believe. The Vilppu sketchbook gives the artist a step by step approach to drawing a more convincing human figure than any other book. Vilppu emhasizes four steps to creating a drawing and with these steps ,the artist can see if the drawing is coming out real as the actual figure itself. LONG LIVE VILPPU!

When Pappy Goes Hunting is a wonderfully accurate story of a way of life that still exists. If you are in a family that is involved with hunting, your children will be able to compare this book with real life activities. If your family is not involved with hunting, this book will help you and your children understand why some people hunt. The illustrations of the country setting helps you visualize where hunting is allowed. This is a children's picture book, but all ages will enjoy the story and the pictures.

There is just something so magical to the way it relates to the hunters of Central Pennsylvania. I would recommend it to anyone.

When Pappy Goes Hunting is a beautiful book for the children of deer hunters. The book shows the hunting lifestyle in a positive manner, which is wonderful for kids who only hear negative things about hunting in the media. The book is for young children, probably 3 to 7, and is written in verse. When Pappy Goes Hunting is a beautiful book.

I find the pieces incredibly original, the execution flawless, and the designs dynamic. This is not what one would normally expect to see in a book about stained glass. She has pushed the envelope for design and execution, and deserves high priae for her wonderful work.

The stained glass that goes whooshing this way and that.....like on the cover, is so cool! It reminds me of Lorado Taft's scupture....like his Wave of Life sort of thing with torso's....one of his pieces is in the Chicago Art Institute and Leslie Perlis's work can stand right beside it, yes!
