This book is disjointed and research oriented, more like the proceedings of a conference than a text book. It also has a very biased feel and is somewhat of an advertisement for the editors' invention, Bioglass(R). My resources would have been better spent conducting a thorough search of the technical journal literature.

This book is pretty outdated for the most part especially with much of the formatting that it uses. If you use this book you should make yourself aware of the new industry standards via AAMT Book of Style.

However, this book is very good for learning or brushing up on your grammar skills, and it has some pretty helpful lists and things that you can pull out and place in a notebook.

This publication has little information beyond various medication prices depending on the brand of each preparation. Its usefulness is probably limited to retail chemists/pharmacies and those doing health economics research.

This woman was a murderer and starved people to death. Even after numerous people had died, she still believed that fasting could cure many ailments. She was so dillusional that when she was diagnosed with cancer, she actually followed her own fasting diet and ended up dying from it.

It's unbelievable to me that this book is still available. Ms. Hazzard was one of many early 20th century quacks who sold various kinds of fake cures. She specialized in luring people to her sanitarium and starving them to death. See http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers/weird/doctors/11.html?sect=3 for details.

The publish date shown for this book is March, 1997, the book was actually written in the early nineteen hundreds. Dr. Hazzard D.O., did apparently fast hundreds of patients, however, the medical basis of her comments are very dated.

Disappointing

Review Date: 2003-06-03
This publication is, to me, an utter disappointment. Not only is it not up-to-date, and therefore of practically no use to the more serious reader, its contents are also sloppily put together. Insights and detailed analysis are also short in supply. It consequently fails to do justice to both the new disease as well as those fighting it on the front-line.

Almost useless

This book is almost useful for me, as it throws practically no fresh insight on the latest findings on Sars. The contents are poorly produced and evidently put together in great haste. A one-star publication.

Unsatisfactory coverage
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2003-05-30
I found this book to be extremely unsatisfactory. The authors have rushed their manuscript to the printer so soon after the start of the epidemic that many salient facts about the virus and the disease could not be included in time for publication. I just can't understand why the authors didn't wait until more facts about the disease have been established before publishing their work if they do intend to provide the public with useful information about SARS.

The coverage of the Sars outbreak in Hong Kong (the place where I live) is also far from satisfactory. Many of the important events have not been mentioned. Some research results have been totally ignored. There is also not much analysis of the initial outbreak at the hospitals. Such sloppy scholarship is unacceptable, even if the book is intended for the mass market.

I can only give this book one star at most.

Out of date and no scientific details
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2003-05-16
This book is short, sometimes repetitive, and already out-of-date, even considering the date of publication (April 2003). For someone who needs a quick non-technical summary of what is online and what has been reported in the international news, this book will suffice, although somewhat marginally. The authors of the various articles discuss various strategies for dealing with SARS, and there is a Q&A section at the end of the book.

There are some omissions in the book, particularly in the area of hard science. For example, the complete genetic sequence of the SARS virus is now available, but this is not mentioned in the book. The sequence has also been BLASTed, but the results of the BLAST search are not discussed in the book either. In addition, there are some groups who have asked whether the SARS virus was the result of genetic engineering, and therefore it would have been informative if the book would have discussed these topics, to alleviate any concerns in this regard. If recombination played a role in the origin of the SARS virus, this would show up in its sequence. An attempt to create the SARS virus via recombination from different viruses would show up in the sequence, parts of which would appear different from a phylogenetic viewpoint. The SARS virus has been classified as a coronavirus, and these types of viruses have been subjected to genetic manipulation in the laboratory in the last fifteen years.

These concerns and others in the molecular biology of SARS are being addressed daily in laboratories all over the world. This book is targeted to non-scientists and non-specialists and so is limited in scope. If updated to reflect these developments, it would be much more useful to those who need to understand the real dangers and limitations of the SARS outbreak.

Can be a source of misleading information
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2003-05-19
I agree with the other reviewers that this book is, by now, hopelessly out-dated.

With such rapid progress made in tracing and understanding the illness, it is actually quite irresponsible of the authors and publisher to have published a book on SARS so prematurely. As far as I can see, some of the information here are only correct up to the first week of April 2003. All subsequent developments, which may have disproved earlier hypotheses contained in this book, have been ignored or are otherwise absent.

Unless one can keep up with the latest developments through news reports, this book, instead of being informative, can be a source of misleading information.

Despite the comparatively low retail price, I don't think this book is worth getting at all.

This is one of the worst books on marihuana. It contains no facts and all lies. When are people going to grow up and stop printing books that hurt people. If you want to learn the truth about marihuana, don't read this book.

HOGWASH

Review Date: 1999-11-06
I am upset that I wasted my money on a book that is complete and utter hogwash. I had hoped that this book would have had an unbiased (neither anti-marijuana nor pro-marijuana) approach to marijuana so that I could have used it for educational purposes. Unfortunately "Keep of the Grass" was written in the same hysterical and deceitful approach of that cult classic "Reefer Madness", and without any humourous images to boot! What a waste:(

This book is a sump of lies and falsehoods. Don't waste your time or mental energy on it. More of the same old United States Government lies about the topic. I guess you could sum up the book in this sentence: "Lie, Lie, Lie something is bound to stick." Nazi propaganda mininster 1939 -- United States Govenment about Marijuana 1937 to date.

This CD Rom is merely a copy of websites available under the public domain, with no additional information. In addition, some pages were not even correctly ported into Acrobat Reader, resulting in poorly displayed images, links and pages.

Only buy this if you have NO ACCESS to the internet. Extremely amateurish attempt.

I admit that I did not read this entire book. I found so many errors in what I did read that I did not want to continue for fear of learning incorrect information without realizing it.

Some errors I found are as follows:

Page 3: "The dorsal aspect of the foot is the back or sole of the foot." Ask any doctor, look in any medical dictionary, or check out any picture of foot anatomy. The dorsal aspect of the foot is the back or top of the foot, not the sole of the foot. The sole of the foot is the plantar or volar aspect.

Page 4: "For example, the hand is proximal to the wrist." No. The hand is not proximal to the wrist. The hand is distal to the wrist, and the wrist is proximal to the hand.

Page 37: "sonagram" The correct spelling is "sonogram."

Page 106: "peroneus logus" The correct spelling is "longus."

Page 4: The book lists the appendix as being found in both the abdominal and pelvic cavities. However, it is only found in the pelvic cavity.

Page 36: "A malignant tumor or cancer is when cells move rapidly from one place to another. This process is called metastases." The correct term here would be "metastasis."

If you are taking a course that uses this book as its textbook, please make sure the instructor knows enough about anatomy to be able to find all the errors for you.

This book is just a small (32 page) brochure, which to make sense out of it should be accompanied by the VHS tape. I ordered it twice, but I wasn't send the VHS tape in none of my orders. Otherwise 32 pages for $98 - give me a break! Totally not worth it!!!!
